The third code was U0140, which involved the "Lost Communication with Body Control Module (BCM)”. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to a transmission specialty shop, where the DTC codes were confirmed. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, where the diagnostic codes...
The power transfer unit in my Jeep Cherokee 2019 Latitude failed and required a replacement, at significant cost (over $2000). It is my belief that Jeep’s recall campaign (ID - O1C) was too narrow and ought to have included my vehicle. I have called Jeep three times without a proper answer to my concern. The failure of the power transfer unit was publicly described as a safety issue and I was unable to drive the vehicle for nearly two months.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the 4WD feature failed to operate with the “Service 4WD” message displayed with an audible chime. The vehicle was initially taken to a dealer and was diagnosed with a defective PTU. The contact was provided an estimate for the repair, but the contact declined to repair the vehicle. The contact then received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was provided with a case number. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was a clunking sound coming from the vehicle while attempting to shift gears. There was no warning light illuminated. While driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle unexpectedly hesitated while attempting to accelerate. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to another dealer, where it was diagnosed with PTU failure. The contact was informed that the PTU needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000
See attached document for complaint.
Last year my vehicle started making noises. I took it to the mechanic, and they informed me it needs a new rear differential unit. I called the dealer Brigham-Gill Village Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram and they told me the vehicle was out of warranty, however i noticed A 2025 recall affects 2017-2019 Jeep Cherokees, including the Limited trim, due to a faulty Power Transfer Unit (PTU) that can disengage the transmission and rear differential.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (POWER TRAIN); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The local dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the part was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. While driving at an undisclosed speed, the message "Service 4WD" was displayed on the instrument panel, and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, who confirmed the failure and associated the failure with the recall. The contact was informed that there was a failure with the driveshaft and the PTU. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 73,000.
incidental to nys inspection it was found that rear differential was severely "decayed." the case was fractured and retaining ring on passenger side was broken or out of place. took to Jeep dealer and it was confirmed that the differential was trashed, had to be replaced, and that vehicle unsafe to operate. No warning signs or symptoms (ie, no noise, no handling issues, no dashboard warning lights.) vehicle has only 63,000 miles. it is my understanding that this is not isolated situation, and "it just happens." dealer contacted Jeep warranty office and they agreed to "good will" partial contribution to repair, but leaving over $2,000 not covered. I know that just recently announced (2/2026) recall of grand cherokees for internal snap ring problem. this was external snap ring (see photos) but wonder if related.
Upon driving car about a month after purchase the transmission hesitated, with jerking and a Loud hard clunk sound. Took vehicle to dealer and dealership stated none of the mentioned malfunctions noticed. They updated some software. Continued driving vehicle and malfunctions started again. Looked online for similar issues and found quite a few similar comments.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
Transmission is slipping bad, I am told that it is nothing of my doing, but I cannot get it replaced with the powertrain warranty that I have because I was over 1000 miles on my oil change
Went to Greenwood and dealer said you need that recalled PTU. Said, “ it is unsafe to drive Jeep with bad PTU and is leaking transmission fluid! Had to park it and bought different car! Still have and transmission is not smooth or sealed! This is a very long not solved jeep issue. Send me or my dealer the recalled PTU part already! Rediculous bad stellaris MOPAR company. Am very very angry. Speed it the heck up !!!!

While driving the car, the shifting mechanisms are not working correctly. Stalling, hard shift etc. Causing jolts, and sudden stop/start movements. I was driving in the snow when my car jolted and was unable to stop on the ice leaving me in the snow bank. Went to put it in 4wd and the 4wd wouldn’t work. Brought it to the dealer repair shop where the recall was determined as the culprit. I have waited a year for the recall with no news, updates and being unable to drive my car.
Safety Risk is A loss of motive power can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. A loss of PARK function can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning and/or injury to others outside the vehicle. Loaner refused to be given.
The vehicle is subject to an active safety recall involving the two-speed power transfer unit (PTU), which can cause loss of motive power and/or loss of PARK function. The vehicle displayed a “Service 4WD” message and all-wheel drive functionality is disabled. The issue has been confirmed by a Jeep dealership, which stated that the recall repair cannot be performed because the manufacturer has not released the remedy under the recall. The dealership also stated the replacement PTU part is available for retail purchase but is not authorized for recall installation. The vehicle is being operated in winter conditions without all-wheel drive, increasing the risk of loss of control. The manufacturer has provided conflicting information, with the recall assistance center stating the recall was resolved, while the dealership and VIN recall system continue to show the recall as incomplete. Warning messages related to the drivetrain appeared prior to this complaint. The...
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended, with a loud clunking sound coming from the vehicle. In addition, the vehicle jerked, hesitated, and bucked while the accelerator pedal was depressed. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the failure was not duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact referenced an unknown recall with a similar failure; however, the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 38,000.
Rear differential lock rings broke and caused leaking fluid, as reported to me by a dealer service department. This could lead to handling problems and even total system failure. No warning lights, messages, or noticeable symptoms. Upon an internet search, I found that this seems to be a COMMON issue with Jeep Cherokee's - therefore, I'm not sure why it isn't already a recall.
I previously reported a safety issue with my vehicle and have not received a response. My complaint number is 11709360. Issue still remains and no recall is associated to my vin number yet, even after locating a recall for my vehicle make, model and year when researching on line.
The rear differential went out on it on Nov 27th, I had it towed back to the dealer and they kept it until Jan 5th and said they had fixed it. I have a hand written receipt from them but it's not very detailed. It does seem better but I can still hear a small noise that concerns me because it sounds and feels just like it did before. I just started financing this vehicle so im not sure what to do and I cant get any help with it. Its scary to drive sometimes but it's my only transportation and I have 3 small children. The check engine light is on but it didn't come up until after they worked on it the first time.
It has been over a year since I got my notice of recall. Still no fix for this according to the dealer. It is completely unacceptable that I have a vehicle that is not really usable without risk while they sit around and dont get a fix. It can not be that complicated. Replace the ptu if they have to. I know it sucks but if its a safety thing then it needs to be done.
Vehicle: 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk Elite VIN: [XXX] Recall: Stellantis / Jeep Recall 01C (NHTSA 25V‑011) Dealer: Carson Dodge Chrysler Jeep, Carson City, Nevada Description: My 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk Elite (VIN [XXX] ) is included in Stellantis Recall 01C. It has now been more than a year since the recall was issued, and Stellantis still has not provided a remedy for my vehicle. My servicing dealer, Carson Dodge Chrysler Jeep in Carson City, Nevada, reports that no parts are available for the recall and that Stellantis has not provided any timeline for when parts or the required software remedy will be released. This recall involves a safety‑related defect in the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) that can cause loss of drive power or loss of Park function. Despite the severity of the defect, Stellantis continues to delay both the software remedy and the availability of replacement PTU components. I am...
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while attempting to use the 4WD feature, the message “Service 4WD” was displayed, with an audible chime. The failure caused the vehicle to slide while driving in the snow. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with Power Transfer Unit (PTU) failure. The vehicle was not repaired due to the part not being approved or provided. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 89,773.
Service 4WD light came on with intermittent lack of power while accelerating noticed. Dodge dealership diagnosed bad PTU with diagnostic code DTC C14A7-97 and now waiting on PTU replacement that is weeks out. Appears to be same issue that other jeeps are under recall for.
See attached document for complaint. Subject: Formal Complaint Regarding Unresolved Recall and Vehicle Held Since February 2025 To Whom It May Concern, I am submitting this letter to formally report significant concerns regarding an unresolved safety recall affecting my Jeep Cherokee. My vehicle has now been held at an authorized dealership since February 2025 due to the lack of an available remedy. Since the original recall notice, I have contacted both the dealership and the Stellantis recall hotline multiple times. Each time, I am given a new projected month for the remedy to become available. In October I was told November, in November I was told December, and now in December I am being told January. This cycle continues with no definitive solution, effectively leaving me without access to my vehicle for nearly a year. I am also concerned about the extended period of inactivity and the resulting potential for...
Subject: Safety Recall 25V 011 – Remedy Delay Over One Year / Request for Immediate Action I am contacting you regarding Safety Recall 25V 011 affecting my 2019 Jeep Cherokee. I received the original recall notice over a year ago, and Stellantis has still not provided the required repair parts or an approved remedy. Federal law requires manufacturers to provide a free recall remedy within a reasonable time, and NHTSA generally considers 60 days to be the guideline for timely completion. A delay exceeding one year is not reasonable, especially for a defect that can cause loss of motive power, inability to shift, and potential roll away. I am requesting the following: 1.Written confirmation that the recall remedy and parts are still unavailable. 2.Escalation of my case to Stellantis for review due to the excessive delay. 3.A loaner vehicle or alternate transportation if my vehicle is considered unsafe to operate...

The AWD warning light was illuminated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, to be diagnosed, and the dealer determined that the PTU had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer informed the contact there would be reimbursement for any vehicle rental expenses; however, the contact was unable to afford a rental, and the manufacturer had become unreachable. The failure mileage...
I have been having an intermittent 4WD SERVICE light come on, then after a while it stayed on. I brought the vehicle to my mechanic who diagnosed the issue as a failing Power Transfer Unit (PTU). He suggested I bring to the dealership for diagnosis as he saw recalls and service bulletins related to this issue, indeed I found "NHTSA Campaign 25V011000 (Reported April 2025): Involves the power transfer unit (PTU), which may damage and cause loss of drive power or park function. Consequence: Increased crash or injury risk from stall or rollaway. Remedy: Software updates and PTU replacement if needed (free); final remedy expected January 2026. Contact FCA at 1-800-853-1403 (recall #01C)" Even tho this issue is the same as reported in the recall, for some reason my VIN is not included in the recall. The car has been at the dealership awaiting repair since Monday, Jan 12 and...
Failing PTU (power train unit) causing power loss and high risk of breakdown or crash
Since December 2025 we have had a "Service 4WD" light on our dash. Recall 01C was announced on 01/26/25. I have contacted Jeep dealers and Chrysler customer service with help/resolution to this. That all tell me to wait for parts. It's been a year. When will this be addressed???
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that on three occasions after refueling the vehicle and driving approximately two feet, the vehicle unexpectedly shutoff. The message to “Shift to Park” was displayed. The contact activated the hazard lights. The accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The vehicle was eventually restarted. The contact associated the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train). The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 107,000.
Well the engine definitely failed to provide power for me to drive my vehicle. And as I am doing more and more research on what the PTU does, which is what there is a recall on. It appears the PTU not working correctly on my vehicle affected the engine, and the ability for car to properly utilize oil, thus affecting the operation of the cylinders 1 and 4 on my vehicle. I am being told I need a new engine however, I believe the PTU problem directly affected my engine because everything that happens with the failure of the PTU is similar things that happen with the failure of my engine, thus the two really are related. And if the PTU "talks to" the engine for proper consumption and usage of oil then, my current engine replacement needs to be covered under the recall of the PTU and any other...
There has been an open recall for over a year and no remedy has been found. I am having failure with my speed power and every dealership wants to charge me because there is no remedy for this recall. My vehicle is eventually going to give out if I don't get this fixed and unfortunately i don't have the money.
I am reporting an open safety recall on my vehicle that has had no available remedy for over a year. My 2019 Jeep Cherokee is subject to Recall 01C, which warns of potential loss of power and loss of park function. Due to this defect, my vehicle’s 4-wheel drive system is currently inoperative. I live in Minnesota, where 4WD is necessary for safe winter driving. The loss of 4WD significantly affects the safe operation and intended use of the vehicle in snow and icy conditions. The recall notice has repeatedly stated that a remedy would be available by a certain date, but each time the date passes it is pushed back again. There has been no repair available despite the recall being open for more than a year. While I have not yet experienced a complete loss of power or park function, the recall states this is a possibility, and...
The Power Transfer (PTU) unit exploded while driving on the highway, upon inspection from the Jeep dealership it was found with multiple cracks on the PTU housing and even described in the service report from the tech that the PTU exploded. The car experienced sudden loss of power and if other cars were around I could of been rear ended. This part has recalls on other Jeep Cherokee models (Safety Recall W47 / NHTSA 20V-343) but my particular VIN does not fall under this recall. They're were not any warning lights on or symptoms that pertained to a possible faliure of the PTU.
Service 4WD light came on and stays on. Odometer flashes continuously. No 4 wheel drive functions operate. Dealer scanned for codes. Determined the transfer case control module was defective. Replacement did not fix the problem ($600.00). Then the fix was new tires because the front tires were worn more than the rear ($ 1000.00). That did not fix the problem either. Now we wait for the recall to materialize. The recall came out a year ago ( JAN 2025). Still no parts or fixes available for this problem.
To Whom It May Concern, I am submitting a safety complaint regarding my 2019 Jeep Cherokee Limited due to ongoing defects that create unsafe driving conditions. Vehicle Information: •Year/Make/Model: 2019 Jeep Cherokee Limited •189,000 Safety Issues: My vehicle has experienced repeated and unpredictable failures, including: •Loss of power while driving •Electrical instability and voltage fluctuations •Auto Stop/Start system malfunction •Hard and delayed transmission shifting •“Service Shifter” warnings and parking brake alerts (P with exclamation point) •Intermittent stalling and hesitation These issues occur without warning and significantly impair the vehicle’s ability to accelerate, shift, and operate safely in traffic. Recall Concern: I am aware that 2018–2019 Jeep Cherokee vehicles were recalled for transmission, powertrain, and electrical defects, including conditions that can cause loss of propulsion and unsafe shifting. My vehicle exhibits the same symptoms described in those recalls; however, my VIN has not been included. Repair History: I have contacted the...

The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the PTU needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. Upon further investigation, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign: 25V011000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 114,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the vehicle started vibrating abnormally. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken a dealer where it diagnosed and determined that the PTU needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure had occurred twice. In July of 2025 the srv 4x4 warning light came on a clanking sound began happening while driving. Eventually my jeep would begin shifting gears really hard. My local jeep dealer service dept. diagnosed that the PTU was failing. There was a recall in the recent months but my VIN was not on the recall list. They offered a good faith repair estimate of $2,500 plus tax to fix it and ordered the parts which were on a long backorder. Its now January 2026 and the parts are still not in yet. I should not have to pay $2,800 for a part that has been recalled on the same vehicle, make and model in recent months and I can't even have it repaired in a reasonable time. Very poor customer service Chrysler Jeep!
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 20 MPH, the vehicle stalled with the “Service 4-WD” warning light illuminated. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
The vehicle is subject to an open safety recall, Jeep recall 01C / NHTSA 25V-011, involving loss of motive power due to a power transfer unit defect. There is currently no available remedy or repair procedure. This vehicle has experienced loss of power while driving at freeway speeds on three separate occasions, creating an immediate safety risk. Because the recall has no fix, the vehicle is unsafe to operate and is not being driven. Stellantis Customer Care case [XXX] is open, but escalation beyond the call center has been denied. The owner is an [XXX] driver. The lack of a remedy has rendered the vehicle unusable and created ongoing safety and transportation issues. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Our 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk made the warning code "service 4 wheel drive" and shortly after when parked at a gas station shifted itself into 4 LOW. I figured it out after starting to drive and we limped home which was a few miles away. We called the dealership and were told to bring it in for diagnostic. While parked on the inclined driveway the Jeep shifted itself into N and luckily I was able to press the brake (Non-ABS or hydraulic assistance due to the engine being off) stop it from rolling through the sidewalk into the street. I was able to get the Jeep into 2H to drive the 5 miles to dealership where they said they would do a diagnostic. 2 days later they texted us to say the transfer case was at fault and that would cost us $3825 up front and then we could submit...
Power Transfer Unit (PTU) failure. It is available for inspection upon request. Visible PTU fluid leaking under the vehicle. Loss of 4WD. Service 4WD warning on dashboard began on Monday, January 5, 2026. Vibrations and grinding noises while driving. Burning oil smell in the cabin. Change in driving, such as delayed engagement and jerking during acceleration. Loss of power. My safety and the safety of others was put at risk at least twice when I experienced Loss of Power while driving. The vehicle unexpectedly shut off and all power was loss while in drive on two separate occasions in late 2025. PTU fluid leak is also a risk to my safety due to its potential for vehicle overheating, fire hazard, loss of 4WD, and/or catastrophic failure. The vehicle was taken to the service department of Ourisman Dodge Jeep Ram of Alexandria, VA on Thursday, January 8, 2026. The vehicle was...
