The Cam phasers in my truck malfunctioned at 72K miles. The failure would cause the vehicle to stall while driving. The dealership replaced them for $4945.26. The dealership would have the broken components. No warning light or malfunction light appeared.
The vehicle developed a grinding noise in the engine soon after i lost all power and brakes while leaving my driveway i thought I was going to crash into my neighbors fence. I had zero braking function out of no where ans no check engine light, it came back after about 30 seconds being off. Then as I was driving down the road I lost all power and I could not accelerate or anything in the middle of the road again no check engine light came on it was just an instantaneous power loss took about 45 seconds to re-engage. I've lost power on the freeway while driving as well.
vehicle started @ around -15 F, drove it for 15 minutes, parked and turned it off. 90 minutes later with temps around -5 to -10 F it would not turn over. Messages on dash included : full accessory power available, and something about a steering assist fault. Jumping battery did not help. Vehicle hauled to shop. Shop disconnected battery and reconnected it and vehicle started. Fault codes were cleared and vehicle ran without creating new fault codes. If this fault had occurred in the middle of nowhere without assistance available the computer going into no start mode when the battery was not dead could easily have resulted in death from the cold weather. The vehicle computer should have a reset option which can be triggered by any operator.

The truck started to have a slight shutter when driving around 80,000 miles. it now shutters all of the time while driving. They trucks shakes. i called my local mechanic and he stated he is having a lot of calls with this make and model truck. he stated that the problem is in the transmission. the inside of the drum that houses the transmission fluid is breaking down the inside and its shredding to pieces. i was informed to call the ford dealership to see if mine was on the recall list but it is not. they acted like there hasn't been a recall for this matter. i have been stopped by random people asking if i was having this problem because them to was having the same issues. i do not feel like we as the consumers should have to pay to have this issue fixed, which is resulting...

2019 F-150 with 3.5L GTDI engine. Cam phasers required to be replaced on truck with 52,000 miles on it. Repair bill of $4800. Ford issued Customer Satisfaction Program ("CSP") notices 21B10 and 21N03 for Ford F-150s manufactured between 2017-2020 equipped with the 3.5L GTDI engine manufactured in Dearborn, Michigan or Kansas. A copy is attached. Under these CSPs, Ford paid for up to 100% of the repair cost, plus 1-day rental vehicle, for owners with vehicles with up to 69,999 miles on them. Ford has refused to apply the CSP to my truck, despite it only having 52,000 miles, because they say the CSP did not apply to my VIN. However, my truck is the same make, model, engine type and manufacturing location as identified in the CSP, and I have the EXACT same engine issue as described in the CSP. I did not receive any letter or recall notice...
When pressing the gas pedal to accelerate , the truck will not accelerate rather it begins to rev the engine loudly (as if the gas pedal was being pushed while the truck is in neutral) the RPM shoots high to 6-7 (again the truck isn’t accelerating any faster just loudly revving,) then the truck jolts as if it has just been rear ended. The shifting is stuttering staying stuck in 3rd and 4th gear severing going back to 1 even at a stop. Vehicle messaging alerted 1/10/25 powertrain malfunction /reduced power . However this issues has been going on and Ford Said it was related to a 4x4 control module which was replaced and yet the issues continue. Brought it back to ford because the problem was not fixed and they are asking for payment of additional diagnostic testing and NOW saying it’s a transmission issue AFTER saying it was...
Purchased Dec 4, 2019; followed maintenance requirements through BO Beukcman Quality Ford. Oil changes made IAW Ford guidelines every 5000 miles. Oil change was made Nov 23, 2023 at 49,504 miles. Just before next oil change noticed engine knocking on acceleration/deceleration with intermittent check engine light on. Oil changed at 54,226 miles (Aug 22, 2024). Condition mentioned to dealer. Dealer advised engine was consuming oil. There was no visible sign of leaks. Fix -- install new dip stick, reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Rationale: Ford TSB 19-2365 Dec 5, 2019 quoted as follows: oil consumption "may be due to high intake manifold vacuum during some deceleration fuel shut off (DFSO) events resulting in oil being pulled into the combustion chamber from the crankcase, valve guides and positive crankcase ventilation (PCV)". Supposedly reprogramming would reduce engine vacuum during DFSO events (note: I noticed knocking on acceleration). At the dealership inquired...
Rough idle engine noise at stop, engine stalls out and dies. No check engine lights present, Auto start/stop system light comes on indicating its disabled and to shift to park and restart engine.
Truck was taken in for cam phasers issues multiple times and said was covered under 21n03. Ford won’t say why other than it doesn’t fall in serial number break. 21n03 says there is no sn distinction just has to be made at these plants which mine was. I have been lied to multiple times by ford and have come to them with new information and still told they won’t even look at case because I have been denied once already. I had to pay 5k out of pocket and cam phasers are now failing again within 90days. Ford is a joke and doesn’t stand behind what they build. (I AM NOW FULLY AWARE) FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND HAS NOT TAKEN THE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS OR REMEDIES FOR CONSUMERS THAT OWN THEIR PRODUCT TO GET THIS FIXED BEFORE A SERIOUS/DEADLY INCIDENT OCCURS *MAY YOU PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS EXTREME KNOWN...

Engine noise/rattling while decelerating, random rough idle that causes engine to almost stall out and die when taking off from a stop at intersections. No check engine lights.
Truck will stall and error will pop on screen stating “Auto StartStop Shift to P, then restart engine”. It does this when at a stop or slowing down to come to a stop or turning causing a huge saftey issue.

While driving down a busy road my wrench light appeared on my dash and made a dinging noise. As soon as I saw/heard that I could hear a faint ticking noise. Soon after, my engine quit running and I was stalled out in the middle of a lane on a busy road. I was unable to start my vehicle after that. My engine had seized. There was no prior check engine lights or anything. I had only owned the truck 1 year and 4 months and had put 13,000 miles on it. Always kept good maintenance and there was no prior indications that there was something major wrong

Was told today my 2019 Ford f1500 needs “cam fazer” replacement. Cost $4300! Internet makes it sound like ALL 3.5L eco boost engines have/will have this problem. There’s a couple “field service bulletins” on it, but mines not included.

The vehicle was purchased brand new from a Ford dealership in 2019 in Virgina. Later, a service bulletin was released by Ford for a "cold start rattle" and cam phaser failure through the ford pass app and by mail. This service bulletin extended the warranty on the cam phaser parts to cover up to 100% of the cost to fix the vehicle. At that time, due to being a military family we had moved to Florida and never received the service bulletin in the mail. After reviewing the service bulletin for the vehicle on the ford pass app, it was taken to a Ford dealership in Miami to be inspected. The Ford Miami dealership did not think there was a cam phaser issue with the vehicle at that time and refused to fix vehicle. Ultimately, the vehicle was taken back to a Ford dealership in Ohio to have it reinspected...
Cam phasers in engine have failed for the second time. Potential safety issue is if not repaired, could lead to catastrophic, unexpected engine failure as the cam phaser is part of the engine timing system. Prolonged driving with this issue would inevitably cause major mechanical problems which could possibly lock the engine up while driving. This would obviously be a safety issue while traveling down crowded interstates at posted speeds in any metropolitan area. Vehicle is currently at the dealer again and the problem has been confirmed. Vehicle is out of warranty at this point and the repair is over $4,500. This price will ultimately lead to many people electing to take the chance instead of pay to fix this known issue with this truck. It is a very expensive repair for a vehicle to have twice under 100K miles. There are no warnings or codes associated with this problem....
While driving 65mph on I-495 on a +90 degree day in August my 2019 Ford F-150 Lariat 4x4, the horn of the F-150 beeped. It beeped again a couple more times then the F-150 powered down forcing me to coast through some lanes of traffic to reach the break down lane. ABS and maintenance due light were both illuminated. My code reader said a switch was shorted so I cleared codes to retest. I restarted the truck and after re-boott was able to drive the vehicle home. Not associated with this enroute power failure incident, I notice intermittent rough idle issues, a tail gate that opens by itself 24/7 with alarm and it is now normal for this F-150 to burn 3-4 quarts of extra oil between each oil change.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 80 MPH, the vehicle unexpectedly downshifted to first gear, resulting in irreparable damages to the transmission and the engine. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired; however, the contact was informed that the engine and transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 114,000.
When my truck hit about 60,000 - 65,000 miles it started to jump into gear sometimes. It didn't feel right. It was at a low RPMs when starting to accelerate. I was planning on taking it to the dealership to have a look at it, but several months had gone by before I had an opportunity to do so. I then noticed a clanking upon a cold start. It sounded like a loose muffler. So I planned a trip to have both of these issues looked at. The Ford Dealer Service Manager told me that the cam phasers and transmission needed to be replaced. How can a vehicle with only 65,000 miles on it need almost $20,000 in repairs???!!! I went ahead and authorized the cam phaser job because I didn't realize how costly it actually was, I misunderstood the service manager. But I will not be fixing the transmission...
Noticed a squeaking/rattle noise took to shop couple times trouble identifying.. finally diagnosed as Cam Phaser defect. Researched and see a problem w fords for quite sometime. Have never received any notification. Called ford offering no help. Stuck w a $4000 $500 repair bill of which simply can't afford .. a five year old pickup due to a Ford defect.
Mileage at time was 39,000 miles, On 8/29/2024. I was driving to when my check engine light came on. FORD dealer checked the check engine light and said I have a P0022 code which is the Right bank cam solenoid is sticking. This condition, after looking into it, has been a problem with vehicles built in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
Timing system does not adjust properly causing motor shake and the associated driver distraction. It is available for inspection upon request. My safety, and that of others, was compromised due to distraction. Yes, the problem can be reproduced by a dealer or independent service center upon request. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealer. Yes, a warning light came on when the problem first occurred. It is now intermittent.
Currently Suffering from a manufacturing defect per diagnosis from Ford technician in my 2019 F150 with the 10-speed transmission. I was advised by Ford to submit the form since I must pay for the repair and updated components to fix the issue and would be reimbursed once the recall was issues. Ford has issued a new technical service bulletin (TSB 24-2046) and re-engineered the CDF drum and housing to correct the issue. Below is a list of symptoms I’ve been experiencing along with others from 2017 – 2023: Wrench light is on Clunking or banging noise when starting the engine Rough, harsh or erratic shifting Hesitation between gears Gear slipping Gear getting stuck while shifting Jerking or lunging Loss of power while driving
The truck has a horrendous rattle on cold starts. I have had it in a Ford service center and they tell me it needs almost $4500 worth of work to repair the issue. They say EI36 Camshaft Sprocket-replace.
The Ford F-150 cam phaser issue primarily affects models from 2011 to 2020 with the 3.5L EcoBoost and 5.0L V8 engines. The cam phasers, which are components in the engine's variable valve timing system, are designed to adjust the timing of the camshafts to optimize engine performance and efficiency. The problem arises when the cam phasers start to fail or become noisy, often producing a rattling or ticking sound, particularly on cold starts. This noise is due to the phasers not locking properly or wearing out prematurely, leading to improper timing adjustments. Over time, this can result in reduced engine performance, poor fuel economy, and in some cases, engine damage if not addressed. Ford has issued Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) and extended warranties for some vehicles to address this issue. In many cases, repairs involve replacing the cam phasers, timing chains, and associated components, which can be costly. The issue...
The car lost ALL POWER and the ability to accelerate for more than 10 seconds. Luckily cars coming form across moved to the side to not hit me. I was stuck in the middle of the intersection. I attempted to shift manually in a panic and the car slammed really hard in likely 1st gear, red-lineed for several seconds then inched forward enough to pull to the side. I was able to proceed forward stuck in 7th gear, where the car remained stuck in that gear. This was terrifying as I had ZERO ability to move forward, the engine was revving but no gears were available
Has high fuel pressure constantly and I have changed several parts for the fuel system and has it running to rich
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated when the vehicle was cold started, the vehicle rattled for several minutes until the engine warmed up. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N03 Cam Phaser Replacement (Engine). The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.
I have a 2019 ford f150 lariat with the 3.5 ecoboost engine. Ford issued a customer satisfaction with the F150’s regarding faulty camphasers. Ford sent this out to every owner that had a F150 made from april 15, 2019 to November 30, 2019. My specific truck was made in December 21, 2018. My truck’s vin number was not attached to that customer satisfaction program 21N03, but my truck has that exact problem. I took it to the local Ford dealership July 30, 2024 where they found I had faulty camphasers and are replacing them right now. I am currently trying to contact Ford to figure out why my truck was not notified. And not have to pay out of pocket for a problem Ford caused and created.

Safety Concerns Regarding F150 10-Speed Transmissions: oI am deeply concerned about the safety of my F150 due to reports of accidents related to faulty 10-speed transmissions. oThe risk of sudden downshifting to 1st gear, potentially causing loss of control, poses a serious threat to me, my passengers, and other road users. oFord must address this issue promptly to ensure the safety of its customers. Transmission overheats while towing rated camper. Engine sounds like a loud sewing machine when first starting. Fear engine may explode.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted and the rear wheels seized. The vehicle was pulled to the side of the road and inspected. The contact stated that the ESP warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the transmission, engine, and rear differential needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, there was a rattling sound coming from the top of the engine. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the cam phasers were faulty, and a software update was performed. The failure was temporarily resolved; however, the failure recently reoccurred. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the recent failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 15,000.
Defective 10R80 transmission shifts erratically; fall out of gear and won’t accelerate; won’t shift into drive or reverse consistently. The issue puts others at risk as the vehicle doesn’t function in a consistent manner. Yes. The transmission was replaced entirely, but the problems persist. It has not been inspected by police of insurance. No lights or messages are displayed when the issues present.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that upon attempting to start the vehicle, there was a knocking and rattling sound coming from the engine compartment. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with a cam phaser leaking oil pressure; however, the vehicle was not repaired because the warranty had expired four months prior to the failure. The contact related the failure with Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N03 (Certain 2017-2020 Model Year F-150, 2018-2020 Expedition, and 2018-2020 Navigator Vehicles Equipped with a 3.5L GTDI Engine Cam Phaser Replacement); however, the vehicle was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
The cam phasers on my 2019 F-150 recently starting making a rattling noise on cold starts. The dealership is quoting a replacement for $4500. I received Customer Satisfaction Program 21B10, 21N03, and 21N08 updates in the mail in 2021 from Ford to have the cam phasers replaced. The recall/replacement program was extended from 2022 to January 1, 2023. Unfortunately I've had my truck in for service multiple times and was told to not replace the cam phasers if there isn't an issue. Now there is an issue after the expiration and I'm being asked to pay out of pocket.
Engine randomly ratted and sometimes sounds like a loud sewing machine when first started up. Transmission skips gears and bangs into gears. Transmission has downshifted while driving causes fear and momentary loss of control. Transmission over heats while towing my camper. Truck is rated tow my camper. Engine misses while under load. I fear I will be broke down along side the road. Trade in value for a truck that operates properly has left me with an unsafe situation and a financial loss.
