NHTSA Complaint #11611178 — 2019 FORD F-150

The Ford F-150 cam phaser issue primarily affects models from 2011 to 2020 with the 3.5L EcoBoost and 5.0L V8 engines. The cam phasers, which are components in the engine's variable valve timing system, are designed to adjust the timing of the camshafts to optimize engine performance and efficiency. The problem arises when the cam phasers start to fail or become noisy, often producing a rattling or ticking sound, particularly on cold starts. This noise is due to the phasers not locking properly or wearing out prematurely, leading to improper timing adjustments. Over time, this can result in reduced engine performance, poor fuel economy, and in some cases, engine damage if not addressed. Ford has issued Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) and extended warranties for some vehicles to address this issue. In many cases, repairs involve replacing the cam phasers, timing chains, and associated components, which can be costly. The issue has led to customer dissatisfaction and several complaints, with some owners reporting multiple repairs before the problem is fully resolved. I was not sent the letter advising me of the customer satisfaction solution and now Ford wants me to pay $4,000 to resolve this issue.
