My 2019 Ford F-150 (2.7L EcoBoost) is subject to Emission Recall 24E12, which addresses a defective PCM calibration that Ford acknowledges "could, over time, reduce the effectiveness of the emissions control system and the monitoring accuracy of the catalytic converter's efficiency." COMPONENT: Catalytic converter system and powertrain control module (PCM). Vehicle is available for inspection at Rich Ford in Albuquerque, NM, where it has been serviced for this issue. TIMELINE: Prior to the 24E12 recall repair, my truck had intermittent P0420/P0430 codes (catalyst efficiency below threshold). The check engine light would illuminate and then clear on its own. I brought the vehicle to Rich Ford for the 24E12 PCM reprogram. Within approximately one month of the recall repair, the same catalytic converter codes returned, except now the condition is constant and no longer clears. This timeline is documented in my FordPass app and the dealer's service records. SAFETY RISK: The...

I have had my 2019 Ford F-150 for 5 years now and always noticed that it was consuming oil. After further investigation I discovered that Ford put out TSB 19-2365 (and 19-2338) which I never received pertaining to oil consumption. I talked to Ford and they said they would inspect for a mere $199.00 dollars for a problem they new was a problem for my 5.0 liter coyote engine. Since the problem began I now have a faulty catalytic converter and 02 sensors because of this defect. I also have to purchase a catch can to prevent oil getting through to the catalytic converter.

Ford has had a known problem with their cam phaser in 2017-2020 Truck and SUV's. My truck got the recall 21B10 accomplished in 2021 and just a couple years later requires $5600 to fix a failed camshaft gear/sprocket. Ford refuses to help pay for the required repair.

Sudden downshifting, missing shift, sudden deceleration, harsh banging into gear.

I took my truck in to be repaired for an incompetent tow truck driver wrapping a chain around the pinion yoke to put my truck on a flatbed because the alternator failed. Once the pinion seal repair was completed, the repair shop told me there were codes popping up on how it was running. The codes were related to the timing and were likely the cam phasers needing to be replaced with the timing. It turns out that the engine was needing to be replaced because there were grooves in the cam journals from metal shavings that were caused after the cam phaser lock out pin broke. The engine was on backorder from Ford and after a little over 3 months, I got a new engine for a mere $12,314. This is for a used truck that I purchased and have only owned for just going on 2 years. I...

The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal ticking sound coming from the engine. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the intake valve covers and the cylinder #5 intake camshaft lobe were damaged. Additionally, the front camshaft and cylinder head had pitted into each other, showing signs of oil starvation. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 45-50 MPH on a separate occasion, the vehicle was stopped at a red traffic light. The vehicle failed to accelerate as intended upon depressing the accelerator pedal and stalled. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was pushed to the side of the road. The vehicle failed to restart...

TRANSMISSION FAILURE. EXTENDED WARRANTY DENIED CLAIM TO FIX/REPLACE. ENGINE RATTLE, THOUGHT WAS THE HEAT SHIELD, HAD REPAIRED, STILL HAPPENING. LAFONTAINE FORD ON S. PENNSYLVANIA, LANSING MI STATED THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE BUT DID NOT SAY WHAT IT WAS EXACTLY. NO WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED BEFORE TRANSMISSION AND RATTLE STARTED. I LIVE LESS THAN 5 MILES FROM MY WORK AND ON MY WAY TO WORK, IT WAS MAKING HORRIBLE NOISES AND HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE TRUCK WAS PURCHASED FROM MORRIE FORD IN OKEMOS, MI BUT LAFONTAINE WAS CLOSER TO HAVE IT TOWED. THE PROBLEM WITH MY TRUCK IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE 10 SPEED ENGINES AND FAILS TO REPAIR/REPLACE KNOWN ISSUES. SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE DOCUMENTED THIS SAME ISSUE ON YOUTUBE.COM AND FORD CONTINUES OR THE WARRANTY INSURANCE THE DEALERSHIP SOLD ME WILL COVER IT. MY TRUCK HAS LESS THAN 60,000 MILES AND ONLY...

2019 F-150 2.7L EcoBoost, 10-speed. Intermittent unintended acceleration: while coasting or braking at low speed (10–25 mph) the engine suddenly revs to 3–4k RPM with a strong lurch forward against the brakes. Requires hard braking and shifting to Neutral to stop. Happens year-round, warm or cold, no warning lights. This is a known issue covered by TSB 19-2135 and SSM 49240 This problem started in 2020 at about 10K mileage. Has occurred about 10 times since with about 82K mileage now. The service dealer at Acton Ford tried to reproduce the problem a couple years ago by driving it, but acceleration problem didn’t happen. The problem occurred today, Dec 6, 2025 while braking for a stop light when I had to stomp on the brakes and shifted into Park. This could be dangerous if I pulled through the red light into cross-traffic.

cam phaser rattle, well known issue in 2017-2020 F-150s. Started around November 8, 2025, at cold start. Maybe 78,000 miles. Spoke to repair shop who id'd the issue and suggested a NHTSA case.

This 5.0L Coyote engine has been very problematic. Since 2020, it has made a chatter at low speeds which sounds like a motor dieseling. After numerous visits and complaints to Ford with trying to address the noise, the service manager said it was due to running 87 octane instead of 91+. This vehicle does not mandate premium fuel by the manufacturer but infact the chatter or dieseling goes away when using the premium grade fuel. Consumers should be made aware of this prior to buying a vehicle. Furthermore, the dealership could not tell me if this chattering has caused damage to the engine which could result in shorter life on the engine. This problem exists to this day if not using premium fuel.
#11698173 |
This 5.0L Coyote engine burns or consumes oil more than the manufacturer stated allowance. It consumes 3 quarts or more between oil changes (3500 mile intervals). Every 500 miles, I check the oil and add approximately 1/2 quart. This is a known issue by Ford and Ford owners. It should be a recall!

Starting in December of 2023 we started to get a engine light that kept coming on and off about every other week. We took the truck to the dealership for a diagnosis and Ford had told us it was an issue with the catalytic convertors throwing an error code. After the third trip into the dealership and a resetting of the code as per Ford they replaced the driver side catalytic convertor. After a few months of no issues the engine light started coming off and on again. This time the driver side was throwing the code this time. We took the truck into Ford and they reset the light. On the second time it came on after going to the dealership we contacted Ford again about the issue and they stated that a computer update was available for our truck and it would recalibrate the truck computer to help...

I am made a formal demand for reimbursement of repair costs I incurred due to a known and recalled defect in my 2019 Ford F-150 3.5L EcoBoost (VIN: [XXX] ). Ford issued an official safety recall for defective cam phasers on this vehicle, classified under NHTSA Campaign Numbers 21B10, 21N03, and 21N08. These recalls specifically addressed the cam phaser rattle and required PCM reprogramming to adjust cam phaser control strategy. Where the reprogramming failed to resolve the defect, Ford authorized full cam phaser replacement under the recall. Despite my vehicle falling squarely within the scope of these campaigns, I was forced to pay $6,908.18 out-of-pocket to have the cam phasers replaced in order to restore safe and proper operation. The defect presented a significant safety concern, and the expense was directly attributable to Ford’s failure to address this issue. I am enclosing the following documentation as evidence: •Repair invoice showing...

During driving, the transmission began hesitating when shifting from 4th to 5th gear. Then in stop and go traffic, it would shift hard from 1st gear to the point my head would slam into the headrest. I would then get a notice on the dashboard of a power train failure. Once I turned the vehicle off, the notice would disappear and the vehicle would begin to shift normally for a while, before the hard shifting would continue. On the freeway, sometimes when the vehicle tried to down shift, it would hesitate and I was concerned I would be rear ended as it would not speed up. I brought the truck into 2 different ford dealerships and they both said it needed a new transmissison. There is 123,00 miles on this 2019 Ford F150. I had also related to the dealerships that there was a rattle when starting the vehicle and...

Timing chain and gears need to be replaced. Check engine light came on. This should not be happening to a newer vehicle with 100,000 miles on it. I looked up other complaints and multiple people have filed complaints about the timing chain going out on their vehicle.

The VCT had begun to fail in my 2019 F150 Platinum Truck. It rattled on every cold start. There was a recall for my model and year truck for the VCT issue, but for reasons I don't know, my truck was not apart of that recall. Back when the recall was issued my truck should have qualified, but I was never notified of any issue. I am the only owner of this truck and I have never changed my address while I have owned this truck. Customer Satisfaction Program 21N03 The repair has been completed and cost $5,200.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from the engine compartment. The cam phaser was replaced, but the vehicle continued to experience hesitation and shuddering while driving. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer, and the transmission was replaced. The contact indicated that 20,000 miles later, the vehicle experienced the same failures and was taken back to the dealer, who discovered metal shavings in the engine oil. The contact was advised that the engine was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000. The VIN was not available.

The transmission failed in October 2023 on my way home from work. Brought it to a transmission place and had another one put in. Cost $6k - The truck is now at another mechanic as it broke down again while driving home from work - transmission and engine this time. Mechanic says needs new transmission and timing chain kit - Cost $10k This is a truck that has 100k miles on it and only 6 years old. This will be the 3rd transmission. It is a safety risk as I have no control when the transmission gives out whether its on a highway or one of these country back roads.

Truck is stalling at low speeds or idle when in drive or reverse causing me to get stranded in turns or at stop lights. No check engine lights have come on and the dealership said to wait but it’s happening constantly. Occasionally the auto start stop will say it’s failed but the stalling occurs when it’s enabled and disabled

The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle in colder temperatures, there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from under the hood. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer for a routine engine oil change, and the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.

There is, and has been, a consistent rattle sound from the waste gates and all I was told was that Ford knows about the issue and states that it is normal operation yet it can cause damage and reduce performance and could cause a safety issue if it fails and allows no power to be delivered especially if the failure occurs on an interstate. All I’ve been told is the issue can be addressed with a DIY fix of adding a spring but no support from Ford is given in regards to this issue. This is documented all over the forums and is a known issue plaguing the 3.5 ecoboost f150s. The next issue is in regards to the transmission shifting roughly, jerking and sometimes lagging when trying to accelerate. Currently my truck only has 88k miles and this issue has been present since roughly 60k miles and has not...

Well, my motor has already been replaced with less than 80,000 miles because of an engine oil consumption issue. My transmission is not shifting correctly. It jerks and shifts hard. It’s been an issue since I bought it.

Truck is rough idles and stalls when idling and moving at low speeds. It happens at stop lights or low speed turns leaving me stranded in intersections No check engine lights have shown up but a auto start stop message appears on the dash

My F150 constantly needs oil and seems to lag when the oil tank is low. 163000km on the engine. I've heard other 2019 f150 drivers have the same problem. It also has a hard shift after sitting for the night, it will drop gears while going uphill which seems to be from third gear to fourth but instead drops to 3rd again creating a clunk noise. It hasn't caused an accident or anything yet but from my last truck this thing definitely was not built the way it should have been. I think Ford needs to have a serious look at these trucks before someone gets hurt.

Failure of the timing chain started as a rattle on a cold start. I contacted the dealership, and they indicated that all 2019 EcoBoosts need to have cam phasers and timing chain replaced, or they can cause major engine failure.

Cam phaser failure and engine timing off. Caused random shut off of engine and loss of power.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at 45 MPH and coming to a stop, there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the engine sounded rough, and the vehicle was driving roughly on the way to the residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, and it was determined that the engine had lost compression in two cylinders. The contact was informed that the long block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 114,785.

The VCT phaser are leaking oil causing the engine to knock when cold starting. There already was a recall but my vehicle wasn't on the list but it has the same defect as those in the recall

VCT / Cam phasers need replaced on all 3.5 ecoboost engines from 2017-2020. The failure of cam phasers can destroy the engine and if it happens on the road it can be deadly. At a minimum, replacing these cam phasers (due to poorly designed parts) is extremely expensive (between $5,000 to $10,000) and people put off this repair because it is cost prohibitive which will lead to engine failure, potentially at high speeds. My dealer (Phil Long Ford of Denver) provided me an estimate of $5,000 to fix my cam phasers. Again, this is on every 2017-2020 Ford Ecoboost 3.5 engine.

I drive a 2019 Ford F-150 with the 3.5L engine and 10 speed transmission. I have received a warning for low fuel pressure, trouble starting, and the truck has cut off once after turning over. It never fails to crank, however, it may take 5 or so seconds of cranking to get it to start. I have had the check engine light come on one time over the last couple of months of the issues starting; the code it showed was a P00C6. I have not brought the vehicle in for service as it just started a couple months ago when it got hot outside and there was a recent recall that did not include this VIN but matches the issue exactly. The warning states to not drive the vehicle and to get it towed if fuel is not low. The recall states there is not a current fix for...

Vehicle Information: •Make: Ford •Model: F-150 •Year: 2019 •VIN: [XXX] Complaint Summary: Cam Phaser Defect — Safety Risk and Manufacturer Negligence 1. Component/System Failure This complaint involves a mechanical failure of the cam phaser system (part of the variable valve timing system) in the 3.5L EcoBoost engine of the above-referenced vehicle. Specifically, the locking pin within the cam phasers fails to engage properly, resulting in a loud knocking or rattling noise on cold start. This condition is a known defect documented in Ford TSB 19-2208 and subject to Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP) 21N03, which extended coverage for cam phaser repair. However, no official safety recall has been issued, despite widespread evidence of failure. The defective parts are still installed in the vehicle and are available for inspection upon request. 2. Risk to Safety This defect compromises driver and public safety and constitutes a violation of 49 U.S.C. § 30101 and...

I purchased this truck about a year ago. After two oil changes, the cam phasers began to rattle on startup. It has the 3.5l Ecoboost engine. This is a known problem and there have been tsb's but they come and go during short windows. The cam phasers were finally updated in 2021 but some people have paid thousands in and out of warranty, some multiple times before the issue is fixed. Ford says they are just a noise and do not cause any issues but the resale is directly effected whether private party or trade in (repair typically costs between $4-7500). Mine started making noise at 89,000 miles. Some people go years with the engine rattling and others have check engine lights and engine issues a shirt time after it begins. Ford knows it is a problem and the customer service sometimes will assist with the cost and other times...

At 101,000 miles, the engine lost power, check engine light came on, and service transmission light came on. This happened while pulling a trailer up a mountain, slowing the truck rapidly, and becoming a hazard to surrounding interstate traffic. The dealer diagnosed the problem as the timing chain, and replaced it and all related components at a cost of $4500. They tell me that this is a problem with that year truck and engine.

Bought a 2019 Ford F150 with 32,000 miles. A year later, I noticed a rattling sound coming from engine. Dealership said I had very little oil. No leaks anywhere. Dealership said I had started an oil consumption test at 10,000 miles. I informed Dealership I did not own car at those miles. Went to Dealership I bought vehicle from to inform them that they knowingly sold me a truck with known issues. Using about 1 quart every 1000 miles. Also, after Fords band-aid they put on, seems to be hesitant on acceleration. Dangerous in busy intersections. Ford refuse to fix a known issue with this vehicle.
