Transmission slips out of gear when in stop and go traffic Searching random gears while driving Slips when trying to accelerate
After a stop sign, I turned right onto a busy street. With foot on the accelerator, vehicle would not accelerate, and I had to quickly turn off into the right of way to avoid a collision. Fortunately there wasn’t a curb there. The vehicle was in “D”. I believe the transmission is faulty. It has happened multiple times. Also, the vehicle occasionally will not go into Park, more evidence of a faulty transmission. I believe Ford should recall and replace the transmission before it causes a serious accident.
Transmission shifting is erratic at the best times and likes to randomly downshift from 10th gear to 1st gear and having to take drastic action to avoid a serious rear end collision in heavy traffic as many others who've reported the same issues. Ford is VERY aware of this issue but will not address it for most of the owners. The issue is well enough known Ford has had issued many TSBs but limited the action to a handful only with the most recent being TSB 22-2428. They have publicly stated the problems with the 10R80 Valve body and CDF clutch assembly, corrected it, but will not make it right with the thousands of owners. I contacted my dealer, who forwarded me to Ford corporate. I was informed that Ford WILL NOT do anything about it, and I was advised by the Ford CSR to make a complaint here. Will...
When transmission is cold it falls on its face going into 3rd and will shift from 3 to 7th back to 1st til warm once warm it shifts better but harshly into 3rd gear
My trucks transmission cdf drum would cause a sudden down shift to first gear while driving.
Transmission skips 4th gear then dropps down all the way to first then jumps all the way to 8th then back down to 4th again. Jerks real ha4d when it happens.
Erratic shifting and skipping gears, unexpected downshift to 1st gear or neutral causing loss of power when driving in freeway either in hot or cold. This is very crucial and serious issue because it cause a crash. Vehicle was taken to a Ford dealer and because they coundln't found any recall linked to this VIN so they did confirm failure of transmission. Even though they confirmed failure on transmission when I first noticed it was when it had around 50k miles and right now has around 96k.
This vehicle is currently in the shop and the tech is saying we may have to have a transmission replacement. The tech also stated that Ford knows there is a issues with these transmissions and they have not corrected it or made any improvements. Also, Ford will not issue a recall. The vehicle has a very hard shift and is dangerous to drive and it also completely shut down on us, putting our life in danger. We do all the proper maintenance and upkeep on the vehicle at a Ford dealership. This issue is very disappointing as these are "American made" vehicles.
Sudden downshifting, missing shift, sudden deceleration, harsh banging into gear.
Problems with truck shifting, hard shifting. Truck engine reving up when driving and you try to accelerate, like it was in neutral. Transmission making loud clunking noise and jerky stop when coming to a stop. I thought I had been rear ended.
When driving home from work at night on the highway in a 55mph zone my truck lost all power and the ability to accelerate. While on the highway began to hit the gas a bit more and saw the gears go from gear 10 all the way down to 1st gear at 55mph. Not sure what was happening and the truck began to “gear hunt” (attempting to find a gear that would give power). The truck gave me a check engine light and a alert of reduced power. I started to smell a burning smell in the vehicle and someone behind me was flashing me with their high beams to attempt to alert me something was wrong. I rolled the window down and looked in my mirror and saw white bellowing smoke being produced from behind the vehicle causing other drivers to either change lanes or slow down so they...
Transmission 10R80 2 times now my transmission has slipped while trying to accelerate from a stop entering the flow of traffic. Both times it has happened after the transmission has warmed up to operating temperature. No it has not been confirmed or inspected by a dealer or independent service center. There has been no warning lights or messages. The transmission irregularly slips shifting to 3rd gear shortly after a cold start up before the transmission has fully warmed up.
I have a 2019 f150 5.0v8 with 10 speed trans. On 10/23/2023 my rear axle was replaced and mew engine was ordered on 11/13/2023. Had issues with my engine and the dealer replaced the engine around 80k miles on 4/18/2024. I was also having issues with my transmission having hard shifts and clunking or jumping gears. I took my truck to the dealer with the extended warranty back in OCT of 2024, dealer checked it and I was told it needed an update or reprogramming of the transmission , the reprogramming was not covered by ext warranty so I paid out of pocket. 6 months later In april I took it back in as the transmission was still having the same issues. The dealer did another reprogramming and was told the fluid was low and I again paid out of pocket. Took the truck home and it had the same...
The 10‑speed automatic transmission (10R80) in my 2019 Ford F‑150 failed prematurely at 71,972 miles. Prior to failure, the vehicle exhibited repeated harsh shifting, slipping between gears, delayed engagement, and occasional sudden jolts during acceleration. These symptoms occurred during normal driving and created unsafe conditions, especially when merging or crossing intersections. The transmission ultimately required a full replacement on 07/23/2025 at a cost of $8,400. This is a major drivetrain component that should not fail at this mileage under normal use. I later learned that many other owners have reported similar issues with the 10R80 transmission across multiple model years. This appears to be a widespread defect affecting safety, drivability, and reliability. I am submitting this complaint so NHTSA can investigate the pattern of premature failures and determine whether a recall or corrective action is warranted.
Power train not functioning properly, jerks and slips. getting to the point where its unsafe to drive.
Transmission issue. Sudden down shift and spike in RPMS while driving. Hard shift during acceleration.
My transmission has begun to shift extremely rough the vehicle now loses power with no notice OR it excellerates up to almost 4000rpm. So much that I have to break and try to pull over immediately. Without any notice the vehicle no shifts rough from 3-4 skips 6 completely and whines out in 8th gear.
Vehicle out of nowhere downshifts harshly.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving in 1st gear, the transmission violently upshifted into 3rd gear while the accelerator pedal was depressed. No warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that while driving in the 3rd gear, the vehicle briefly hesitated while upshifting before suddenly accelerating with the accelerator pedal depressed. The vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic, where the transmission was serviced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. An appointment with the dealer was scheduled to inspect the vehicle. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign: 25E070000 (Power Train) and TSB: 25-2126; however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 68,200.
Transmission started slipping at 100,000. and needed to be replaced shortly after.
Unintended downshifts, hard shifting, long pausing in-between shifts. I took it into a Ford dealer and they are suggestions transmission replacement. I'm looking online and it shows numerous recalls for these issues.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that on several occasions, while the vehicle was stopped, the transmission became stuck in fourth gear and the vehicle failed to accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. The accelerator pedal was depressed to the floor for the vehicle to respond. The vehicle gradually accelerated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 99,500.
Harsh/erratic shifting, clunking, hesitation between gears, and sudden loss of power. Was unaware there was a known defect with these transmissions and almost rear ended vehicles in multiple occasions due to the vehicles acceleration hesitation and then bolting forward. Dealership now states the transmission needs to be replaced at just over 70,000 miles
Around curves truck will down shift too many gears. The problem was when it did it recently with the icey roads the tires locked up for a second and I got sideways. I got it straight but if a car was coming I would crashed. My speed was around 50 but I let off the gas to slow down for the curver never applied brakes yet. It does it usually when slowing down its done it since ive owned it and its never bothered me too much until this recent instance. No warning lights, only recall is back up camera I dont have issues with. Ive complained to many ford dealers and my year dose not qualify, if I want to get it fixed I need to buy new transmission.
Bought the truck used from a ford dealer with roughly 34000 miles in 2023.Transmission had a slightly hard shift into 5th gear then that escalated to a jump of shifting from 1 to 4 leaving traffic lights or stop sighns. The truck would also drive in first shift to 2nd or 3rd and loose all power for moment of time then shift to 4th. Changed trans filter and replaced motorcraft ulv to specs at roughly 70200 miles with no change in shift pattern. Drove then next day to town about 6 miles trans temp reached 260-280 in that short time with the same random unsafe shift pattern as stated before.
This 10 speed transmission 10R80 is very well known to fail. This should be investigated and recalled by ford with a fix. So many people with f150s year 2017-present have this transmission with issues. Mine is currently starting to have issues and I know how much it will cost to repair. Even repairing makes me nervous because I’d hate to have another 10R80 back in it.
Harsh shifting including sudden downshifts that result in uncontrolled acceleration. This has occurred typically at slow speeds in parking garages or at stop lights.
Transmission harsh shifting, shift slare, slow engagement and falling out of gear. This causes a serious safety hazard if you need to move and cannot. Vehicle is currently at the dealer being diagnosed.
While operating my 2019 Ford F-150 XLT on a highway at normal speed, the vehicle suddenly and aggressively downshifted without any driver input. The abrupt deceleration created an immediate safety hazard. I was wearing a seatbelt; without it, there was a substantial risk of ejection and serious injury or death. A vehicle traveling behind me was forced to brake suddenly and skid to avoid a high-speed rear-end collision. This incident placed multiple motorists at significant risk The vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission, and no action on my part caused the downshift. Shortly after the incident, the wrench warning indicator illuminated on the dashboard, signaling a mechanical malfunction. I immediately took the vehicle to an authorized Ford dealership, where I was informed that the transmission had failed and required complete replacement. I was required to pay for the repair out of pocket because the vehicle had approximately 62,000 miles,...
Problems with the transmission shuddering, lock up and incorrect shifting is causing safety issues when driving. Check engine light is on/off and when it randomly locks up causes concern at intersections when driving. Please provide help/assistance and or notification of a mfg recall. Thank you.
The torque converter has failed after only 22,000 miles. The Ford dealer told me that if not replaced then my transmission will be ruined.
10speed transmission knocking in and out of gear even trying to turn left is a major safety concern I’ve had times it knock out of gear and it revs on its own without my foot on the pedal and after about 10seconds it jumps into gear with seconds to spare of on coming traffic Ford knows about it I’ve had it looked at and they just did a “software update” for it to keep doing it what’s it going to take for them to fix the issue they built from driving 60mph going from 10th gear trying to engage 1st gear isn’t good
10R80 TRANSMISSION CDF DRUM FAILURE HARD SHIFT BETWEEN GEARS, SPORADIC GEAR CHANGING FROM 10TH TO 1ST GEAR. CAUSING TRUCK JERK LOOSE POWER WHILE DRIVING PUTTING DRIVER AND PASSENGER AT RISK. WENT TO A FORD DEAL FOR ASSEMANT AND CONFIRM THAT CDF DRUM BUSHING HAS SLIPPED AND OTHER ISSUE INTERNAL COMPONENTS FAILURE. NO ENGINE LIGHT SHOWING FROM ISSUE BUT THIS ISSUE STARTED IN 12/2025. FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND NOT APPLY AS A SAFETY CONCERN. MY TRUCK HAS ONLY 54,000 MILES. THIS ISSUE SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED AS A RECALL BY FORD FOR SAFETY.
I am reporting a safety-related defect involving the 10R80 transmission in my 2019 Ford F-150. The vehicle experiences erratic shifting and loss of power that appears to be caused by a known defect in the transmission’s CDF clutch drum assembly. Ford has issued TSBs for this problem (including TSB 25-2126), which describe axial movement of the CDF drum sleeve leading to hydraulic pressure loss. However, this issue has not been addressed through a recall. My vehicle exhibits symptoms consistent with this defect, including: •Harsh and unexpected shifts •Delayed engagement when accelerating •RPM flares and slipping between gears •Loss of power or hesitation during passing, merging, or turning •Sudden or unpredictable shift behavior that affects vehicle control These symptoms occur at random and create unsafe driving conditions, especially when entering traffic or making left turns. The loss of power and inconsistent shift timing can leave the vehicle unable to accelerate when...
(Current approx mileage of occurance 104,xxx -105,xxx)The transmission on my 2019 Ford F150 abruptly started to run really bad. The transmission started slamming gears, hard shifting, delayed shifting, delayed acceleration. The shifting was slamming to hard, that it felt like another vehicle hit me in the rear. I called a local Ford dealership on 1/7/2026 to make an appointment to get the software updated (TSB 21-2145), the earliest appointment I was able to get was 1/13/2026. I drove the truck again on Sunday (1/11/2026) for church, and upon returning home, the wrench icon appeared on my dash board. I did not drive the truck again until 1/13/26 for the appointment. I took the truck in on my appointment and shared my concerns with the technician about it being a bigger problem than a software update, and he assured me he would complete proper inspection and diagnostics. After the tech completed...
Transmission is exhibiting harsh and delayed shifting which causes the vehicle to lurch, accelerate and decelerate at unexpected rates. These acceleration and deceleration issues present a hazard while driving to myself and other drivers as the vehicle can unexpected decelerate with out brakes being applied and cause a collision. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership and they confirmed the symptoms and that internal components of the transmission are failing. The vehicle currently has 81,000 miles and should not be exhibiting this behavior. The issues started around October 2024 and resolved temporarily after a transmission fluid drain and fill but returned after approximately 2 weeks.
The transmission is having issues shifting like not wanting to go into gear and at time getting stuck in intersections not wanting to find what gear to go in. Hard shifting and downshifting at any givin time .
the 10 speed transmission is shuddering, slipping, and missing gears. This is extremely dangerous when driving through intersections and needing to maintain speed especially when turning/crossing lanes with oncoming traffic. Also, when driving up a hill and you have power loss.
Transmission failure at 76,000 miles. Vehicle not properly responding coupled with erratic gear behavior when trying to shift gears. Problem was confirmed by Ford dealer Doggett Ford, South Loop, Houston Texas. Diagnosis: Transmission replacement. No warning lights or messages. Problems appeared suddenly and deteriorated quickly. Ford Customer Support was contacted but only offered to pay around $4,000.00 against a $11,000.00 repair estimate by the dealer. How is it possible that these trucks have not been recalled? My internet research in the last month or so since the problem occurred reveals that this is a well known problem with the 10 speed transmission in question. Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to any comments you may have.
My F150 is having problems shifting gears. Most prevalent in the lower gears when accelerating. It hesitates as it shifts, up or down, and then creates a loud thud and jerks the truck, as it finally shifts. You can feel it during other gears, as when downshifting to climb a hill. There is a loss of drive during this shifting hesitation, and this creates a safety issue when pulling out into traffic. I have contacted the local Ford dealership, and they stated that I needed to bring it in for a transmission evaluation. I booked the earliest appointment, but it is five weeks out.
10R80 ten speed automatic transmission first exhibited indications of failure 9/16/2020, Ford's response being reprogram PCM. Transmission has progressively declined in reliability complete with harsh shifts, jerking, erratic up and downshifts, suddenly reverting into neutral at highway speeds. Safety of self, wife and other family members imperiled due to the vehicle suddenly lurching, jerking, and slamming forward in an unsafe manner at highway speeds. Ford dealerships have reprogrammed the transmission PCM four times over several years with progressively worsening transmission functionality. Dealership service specialist has confirmed that the transmission failure is due to internal components with burnt fluid as a component. But, Ford will not allow them to open the transmission up, denied repeatedly by the manufacturer as the issue with this 10R80 transmission is widespread with thousands of complaints filed, sone with NHTSA and others online and with Ford Customer Service to no avail. Ford is denying this manufacturer's...
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the Auto START/STOP feature was inoperable. The contact stated that the vehicle was shaking, and while idling, the vehicle started jerking abnormally. The contact stated that the transmission was slow to shift. The check engine warning light was illuminated, and the message cylinder #6 misfire was displayed, but had turned off. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25E070000 (Power Train). The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and confirmed the remedy was not yet available, and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 155,000.
The 10-speed automatic transmission 10r80 on my 2019 Ford F150, experienced hard and delayed shifting, transmission slippage, noticeable loss of power, warning lights coming on and off. Not shifting into gear at all. Transmissions typically last between 150,000 to 200,000 miles, depending on how maintained and driving habits. With proper care, some transmissions can last up to 300,000 miles or more. F150 cam phaser recall affects models from 2017 to 2020, addressing issues like rattling noises and potential engine problems. I actually received this recall, and had my trucked “fixed” at the SAMES Ford in Corpus Christi TX. In late 2021 or early 2022. I was in a Ford Dealership in Redfield SD, in Jun/July 2025 and asked them to check on any recalls for my 2019 F150. I was told there was no recalls on my truck. My truck has roughly 70K miles on it. There is a service...
Driving on the interstate with the family in the truck. Was going 70 mph and the truck started bucking and loosing power causing me to swerve to gain control and bring the truck to a stop. On the side of the highway I tried to drive to an exit and the truck proceeded to shift from first to 7 and then say 10 and just rev then slam into first over and over. Limped fo a gas station. Fluid level is good. The junk 10 speed transmission almost cause us to wreck on the interstate at a very bust time. Who know what all damage that would have caused.
I've had extremely hard shifts since I got the vehicle at about 30k miles. I have a 2019 f150 xlt 302a with the 2.7l ecoboost in it. I have since found out that ford has defective CDF Drum parts and have updated the ones that are KNOWN to fail. I keep seeing people getting their transmission shudders and hard shifts fixed via a TSB or Recall, but my vehicle never shows any recalls. I dont understand. I've had the defective CDF Drum in my truck since I bought it. Why am I not able to get the recall fix. I've known for quite some time that it's going to fail at some point. Nobody at the Stealership had any help or info for me. So that's why I'm here. My transmission has had issues since the day I bought it. Why do I not qualify for the recall or TSB?...
2019 Ford F150 is having a transmission issues. This issue is known by Ford Motor Company which is addressed in a TSB. The issues that are occurring with the CDF drums which prone to bushing failure and causing erratic shifting while driving on highways and residential areas. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by the local Ford Dealer, but the cost would be between $6000-$7500 so far. There were no warning indications prior to the issues. There are known lawsuits in regards to the 10R80 tranmissions and Ford fails to issue a recall on the models with it installed. I was on the highway driving around 65-70 mph when the transmission started to jerk and then bog. This is DEFINITELY a safety risk for any Ford owner and others driving around them.
I own a 2019 F-150 XLT truck with only 56,000 miles. I bought the truck brand new in 2019 and now it only has 56,000 miles! The transmission just failed and is not under warranty of 5 years or 60,000 miles and it's frustrating Ford doesn't have any recalls for this Truck. This Truck is unsafe and needed a new 10 speed 1080r transmission. Incident #1-I was on the freeway at 65 miles an hour and the truck downshifted into 2nd gear! It abruptly, slowed down and I had to pull over on the side of the freeway, luckily no one was close behind me. I then had to re-start and make it back home. Incident #2- I was turning right at a light and had to merge into traffic and speed up to merge and the truck transmission went into neutral and would not shift into gear. I immediately...
The 10 speed transmission slips, misses and fails across all gears, but especially in lower gears. Engine only had 37,000 miles on it when I bought the vehicle through Carvana. It’s been having this issue from day one.
Driving 80 mph on a toll road and when the truck downshifted while going up a hill, it couldn't find a gear and almost downshifted into 1st gear. It also got stuck in 4th gear in another incident and left me crawling through the middle of an intersection.
10r80 transmission failure at 67,000 miles. My wife drove the vehicle with our 6 month old daughter in her carseat. The vehicle would not shift out of 3rd gear while getting onto the highway. Two days later, I was driving and it would not shift out of first gear. Extremely dangerous and will (not if) lead to injuries and death. Dealership confirmed the entire transmission will need to be replaced
