Truck would down shift to 1 no matter what gear I was in and jerk. It would also shake and/or stall at random times. I was almost t-boned pulling out of my of my neighborhood and it stalling. I was also close to being read ended when truck was in 5th and jumped to one going down the road.
The engine has a bad rattle on every first start (or cold start). There are a ton of posts about this issue, and it sounds like it's a bad cam phaser that's prevalent on all F-150s built between 2017 and 2020. If there are so many trucks affected, then why isn't there a recall in place from Ford? It looks like Ford had some type of extended warranty issued through Jan 2023, but then that stopped. Here is more information on the issue: Ford is aware of the Cam Phaser problems and has issued a technical several bulletin to address the complaints and provide warranty repairs. According the Ford Cam Phaser Technical Service Bulletin Program 21N03 (TSB): “In some of the affected vehicles, an undesirable noise may develop from the cam phasers in the 3.5L GTDI engine. This noise might occur as a rattle when starting the engine after the...
On start up vehicle engine rattles until oil pressure builds up. Happens every time vehicle is started. I know that this is a problem with other f150s as well.

I have had numerous issues with the transmission on this truck. The truck has been to dealerships ever since I bought it for transmission issues. New issue occurred this week while going 75mph and continually as I decreased speed down to 60mph. While driving at the high rate of speed the transmission would go from gear 10 straight to 1, causing the RPMs to spike and Redline once. This occurred 5 times during my drive within about 15 minutes until I was able to stop and leave the truck. No leaks of any transmission fluid was found and truck has had all of its annual inspections and work done according to Ford maintenance timelines and all work on truck has been done at Ford dealerships. I have complained to many dealerships about my transmission. One of the times the gear shifted to from 10 to 1 for a few seconds...

The Cam Phasers are going bad. This is a known issue with Ford 3.5l GTDI engines. They have published Customer Satisfaction Program 21N03 in relation to this matter. My 2019 F150 is experiencing failed cam phasers, which has been confirmed by the Ford dealership. I reached out to Ford to discuss the matter, but they stated my vehicle is not covered under this program. A claim report was started by Ford on my issue CXH01965202. The same failure described in the Ford document is happening in my vehicle, so I do not understand why my vehicle is being excluded. The failure is more widespread than what Ford is claiming, and they need to expand the program to include all impacted automobiles.

Cam phasers, powertrain control module. While at a remote site, my engine started making a rattle when first started. Later at the remote site, the truck would not start until weather conditions improved. Upon returning home, I took the truck to my local Ford dealership where it was confirmed the cam phasers needed replacing and was done. I later found a Ford Customer Satisfaction Program notice [XXX], [XXX] and [XXX] I had received in October 2021. I had acted on that notice with the Ford Dealership in College Station, TX at the time and they said I did not need to do anything because I was not experiencing the problem at the time. The cam phasers are a known problem with this vehicle and should be recalled. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Tapping noise on cold start and then loss of power triggered P052D-00 code "Cold start camshaft position timing over0retarted bank 2"
The variable camshaft timing (VCT) solenoid becomes gummed up, causing the engine to lag. Specifically after driving on the interstate or highway and then sitting at a red light. The VCT does not perform properly and the engine idle drops, causing the truck to stall and die at the light. Online forums show this to be a common problem for the past couple generations of this Ford 5.0 L motor and always seems to occur between 80,000 and 100,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that at vehicle start-up, there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from the engine. There was no warning light illuminated. An intermenttent loss of the transmission output speed sensor signal to the powertrain control module resulting in a unattended downshift into first gear when accelerating.
Ford has done a service bulletin on the cam phasers once before. The issues are still not fixed and all they say is it's normal. An engine rattling due to a part they installed is not considered normal. Wrong parts were used and the problem still persists. Ford needs to be made to recall 2015 to 2019 f150 trucks as well as any other series that have the issue. The service bulletin only gave people a certain amount of time to come in and have it fixed the first time which left a lot of people out of luck due to lack of communication to the owners of said vehicles.
12/26/2023 Re: VIN: Case#: I purchased this truck new 4/1/2019 and purchased a Ford Extended warranty(Ford Protect) the following month for 5 years/125K miles. This was my second F150 with the 3.5 ecoboost engine. Since that time it has been serviced continuously by Ford Dealerships . At no time during that time period under warranty has any Ford dealership mentioned that there were service bulletins out to the dealerships with regard to failing Cam phasers. From research that I have done over the weekend there is apparently a New type phaser being used on F150’s since 2021 that corrects the problem. If Ford and all of the Ford dealerships knew of this common problem why were not the Ford customers notified of the issue? I went in for an oil change last week and the technician noted a tiny sound when the engine started. I went back the following week...

Transmission jerks, and stalls. Drive train noise. Engine cuts out and has rough idle.
The vehicle has given codes P0018 and P0021 on multiple occasions. These codes are likely due to an issue with the cam phasers. This is a known issue due to a design flaw.
I drive a 2019 Ford F-150 XLT 4WD (8 Cylinders 5 5.0L FI FFV DOHC 302 CID). During November 2023, I was experiencing the truck bucking and jerking and shutting off at red lights and stop signs. I took my truck to the dealership on November 22 to have them look at it. They replaced the starter, an almost dead battery, and a PDM reset. The PDM reset and starter were covered under my extended warranty. Upon driving my truck home, the problem continued to exist and this time much worse. I returned to the same dealership on Friday, November 24, 2023. After a diagnostic test, they found nothing, then stated a couple of people drove the vehicle and could not duplicate the problem I was complaining about which was stressful and frustrating because this problem exists almost every time I drive the vehicle, regardless of how long my trip....
Approximately 2 weeks after purchasing the truck I noticed some harsh shifting, jerking, and sudden acceleration, and hesitation issues. They were intermittent and I was advised this is not uncommon with this model vehicle. However, these issues have become more frequent and severe. Next, I noticed the gears began slipping and the truck seemed to not be able to “find” the gear it needed to be in. The transmission would slam into gear or begin slipping under acceleration. There is no rhyme or reason to it, I have not been able to pinpoint it to a specific gear or up/down shift. It simply loses power and neither the gas nor brake work. It will coast until the wrench (check engine?) symbol comes on and then the gas will function. This week the transmission has started intermittently locking into a specific gear without the ability to shift. It’s now happened 3...

Truck uses an excessive amount of oil that would not be corrected by Ford. Due to this issue the truck failed to operate normally. It stalled in the middle of an incredibly busy intersection, causing traffic back up as well as increase safety concern for the drive of the truck as well as other drivers on the road. This has happened multiple times. Ford is aware of the engine oil consumption issue. Has expressed multiple times that it was not a problem. Attempted to fix by selling a new longer dip stick to attempt to hide the problem with excessive oil consumption.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated he heard an unusual rattling noise that came from the engine compartment when he started the vehicle. Vehicle engine, cooling, and exhaust. Cam Phasers noise when starting
My engine light came on and within the same day my vehicle shifted extremely slow. it was difficult to merge into traffic and almost caused an accident. I took the vehicle to Mechanic and they advised the engine light was consistent with the timing chain failure . I called a local local Ford dealer. They seem to be familiar with the issue and said it would cost $4000 to fix.

The vehicle is a 10 speed automatic, while driving the vehicle when it gets to about 4th gear, the transmission slips. This vehicle was purchased brand new and has only 64,000 miles on it. The transmission slips and at lower speeds when the transmission slips and hesitates before it shifts to another gear, this is a safety issue as while the vehicle semi stalls causes the potential to be rear ended by a trailing vehicle. This vehicle manufacturer should stop selling these transmissions that have serious issues with them. Surely when you purchase a brand new vehicle you don’t expect to have any problems with it at four years into ownership.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The failure mileage was unknown.
My 2019 F150 with the 10 speed transmission has several issues that I believe affect the safety and reliability of the vehicle: 1) The transmission shifts very roughly into 5th gear. The shifts are so rough that I suspect the other components of the drive train are being placed under unnecessary strain. 2) When moving forward at idle the truck will on occasion surge forward. This is a potential safety issue if it were to occur in traffic. 3) When moving forward at slow speeds the transmission periodically slips as if it was shifted into neutral. My local dealership "flashed" the software for the transmission but it did not correct the problem. I returned the truck to the dealership and they've now had it for 2 months with no resolution to the problem.
