Consumer Description

12/26/2023 Re: VIN: Case#: I purchased this truck new 4/1/2019 and purchased a Ford Extended warranty(Ford Protect) the following month for 5 years/125K miles. This was my second F150 with the 3.5 ecoboost engine. Since that time it has been serviced continuously by Ford Dealerships . At no time during that time period under warranty has any Ford dealership mentioned that there were service bulletins out to the dealerships with regard to failing Cam phasers. From research that I have done over the weekend there is apparently a New type phaser being used on F150’s since 2021 that corrects the problem. If Ford and all of the Ford dealerships knew of this common problem why were not the Ford customers notified of the issue? I went in for an oil change last week and the technician noted a tiny sound when the engine started. I went back the following week to have a sensor replaced and the mechanics indicated that there was a camshaft/phaser problem that would cost $4200 to fix. That issue could have been fixed at any time under the extended warranty from 2021-2022 if the dealerships had notified the Ford customer by using the same phasers installed on new trucks. I received a follow up call from a Ford rep 12/28/2023 who denied that I had a Ford Protect extended warranty. I verified the policy 12/29/2023 and called Ford again who again stated that I did not have a Ford Protect Policy. Finally it took a conference call with the dealer to convince Ford who still would not agree to fix the issue. The Dealer offered to extend the policy until realizing that it had been diagnosed with a cam phaser failure stating they could not warrant an existing issue. That is exactly what the dealer did in 2019 when they sold the extended warranty on a known issue. Phasers are the critical feature that controls the timing and computer controlled oxygen input and exhaust for ecoboost engines. When they start to break down it affects the health of the engine itself.
