SSM 51553, Left front door has a cracked or broken spot welds at the check arm attachment point in door assembly. The window will not roll down or will not roll back up. The door will sometimes not want to close or not close fully. Yes, the dealership confirmed it is an issue that needs to be resolved, with the whole door needing to be removed. Started with creaking noises while opening/shutting the door about 1-2 months ago. Now the door makes loud crunching /cracking noise, doesn’t want to close all the way.
Driver's door check arm spot weld broke. There is a technical service bulletin on this issue but Ford will not cover it because I am out of warranty time wise...vehicle only has 27,000 miles on it. I have been climbing in and out on the passenger side of the vehicle because I am worried that the door will not close or will not stay closed as I am driving. My window is also not operating correctly because of this issue.
Consistent metallic cracking noise heard when opening side door. I cannot completely open the door without the door making this noise and it feels like the door could come off at ant time…..I have to gingerly open the door on entering or exiting the vehicle. Also, the Driver side window does not completely go up and down when door is closed. Dealer diagnosed issue as: BY001 DOOR HINGE BROKEN/DAMAGED. WILL NEED TO BE REPAIRED BY BODY SHOP. DAMAGE HINGE IS PUSHING INTO DOOR FRAME MESSING WITH WINDOW MECHANICS. The mileage is only at 37,835 and has only been driven for commuting to work/home, grocery shopping and very few leisure trips. It has not been in any accident or abused in any way.
Driver side door check hinge? started making loud popping noises. 2 days later the door wont close at all. Went to Ford Dealer and they were like warranty expired could be between 400 and 1200 dollars to fix. Again door stuck open and they finally get it closed and tell me to be careful and not open it all the way but if the arm breaks off the door could open on its own while the car is moving. After getting the door closed, they said theyd be in touch with options and costs. Unreal that this is not a safety concern for Ford.
The driver side front door is making a popping sound when opening and closing. Rusty Eck for says this is a known issue but are refusing to repair without us paying for it. I see that 346000 autos are potentially affected, why is there not a recall?
Spot welds on the door check arm bracket have broken on the driver's side front door. The arm is still attached to the pillar, but is no longer attached to the door itself. This is also preventing the window from rolling down fully.
Shortly after purchasing my 2020 Ford Escape my driver side window stopped working. Soon after my door hinges began to fail. I took this to several dealerships who said that the hinge was sagging leading to the electric within my door to have weight on it. My car is available for inspection, I am concerned my door will stop opening or not close all the way at some point putting my safety at risk. Both independent dealerships that I took my car to said this was a common issue. No warning lamps or messages.
All 3 welds that hold the drivers front door check arm failed over the course of a day. When travelling with the car I observed some strange creaking/cracking sounds when opening or closing the door, and within a day I found that the door was difficult to close and latch. I looked at the hinges, and notices 3 holes where the welds were, and the check arm moving inside the door. The safety issue is its difficult/impossible to close and latch the door, and difficult to make sure the door is actually latched and stays latched. The door has opened while driving, and I'm not sure if this is due to not being able to close it all the way or of the loose check arm is breaking other parts inside the door. The power window no longer works because the loose check arm appears to be blocking it or...
The driver door is trying to fall off. When I open it, it makes a loud creaking noise and then comes loose. When I try to shut it, it’s not lined up and won’t shut correctly and completely. This issue started almost immediately after purchasing it in July 2023. I brought it to the Ford dealership and it sat there for over a month before they looked at it. They never did give me an official diagnosis or estimate although I asked several times. I have been driving around like this for months.
I OWN A 2020 FORD ESCAPE. The Driver's Front Door started making a loud popping sound when opened and then it wouldn't close all of the way. It was hard to close but finally did. It kept making the popping noise louder every time it was opened and shut. Then, the Driver's Front Window failed to go down more than an inch and a half to two inches. It wouldn't roll up every time it was rolled down the couple of inches either. I took it to Mike White Ford Dealership in Coeur d'Alene, ID where I was informed that the welds on the control arm of the Driver's Door had failed and broken so the car needed to go to a body shop to be repaired. The dealership said that none of this is covered by my warranties.
Like many others, the spot welds gave way on my drivers door. It affects window operation and the door sounds terrible when opening and closing. I called ford and they told me to have the concern verified at my next service visit. They need to issue a recall for this ASAP.
my driver side door hinge randomly began making snapping noises and then the door no longer functioned properly. There are times when I cannot close my door fully so I must drive with the door partially opened. The issue also affects the window. I cannot roll my window down.
The passenger door start making a creaking/popping sound. Within the last week, it started to get louder and louder because the spot weld around the door check arm had completely broken. I took it to the dealership I purchased it from and ford denied assistance with my issue. They recommended I pay a body shop to fix it.
Door hinge on 2020 Ford Escape has failed. The window no longer works, the door is difficult to open and close, sometimes it will not open or close. It makes a loud popping noise when opened or closed.
ON [XXX] I NOTICED MY WIFES FRONT DRIVER DOOR HINGE WAS MAKING NOISE. AT THAT TIME I LUBED THE DOOR HINGES. NOISE STILL PRESENT DOOR HARD TO CLOSE. OPENED AND CLOSED DOOR MULTIPLE TIMES TO MAKE SURE DOOR WOULD CLOSE AND LATCH. ON [XXX] MY WIFE DROVE THE VEHICLE IN THE AM. UPON ARRIVING HOME SHE INFORMED ME THAT THE WINDOW ON THE DRIVER DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. I OPENED THE DOOR AND PUT THE WINDOW DOWN .AND IT WOULDN'T GO BACK UP AND THE DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE.AT THAT POINT I CONTACTED A FRIEND WHO OWNS A BODY SHOP AND HE TOLD ME TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOP. WITH THE DOOR NOT CLOSING I TOOK THE SEAT BELT AND PUT IT AROUND THE DOOR FRAME AND THROUGH THE WINDOW OPENING AND DROVE THE VEHICLE 2 MILES TO HIS SHOP WITH THE DOOR OPEN ABOUT 8 INCHES FROM...
Drivers side inside door welds have broken loose at catch arm attachment. Related to Ford TSB SSM 50150. Car bought used 1/6/2024 but previously used as a rental in another state. Car has approximately 64,500 miles. Door failure occurred 1/19/2024. Bought from out of town dealer and inspected by local Ford dealer who verified issue. No prior signs leading up to the failure. Neither dealer agrees to repair without charge.
The welding on the driver side door broke for no reason. Since that time it has sprung open for no reason and almost hit another vehicle. It has also slammed shut several times and hit my leg as I have attempted to exit the car.
The driver's side door hinge/arm is broken. Sometimes the door cannot shut, sometimes it is very difficult to open. If this is the same issue as that reported by car and driver [XXX], then whoever drives the car could be at risk of the door coming open while the car is in motion. I took the car to my local Ford Dealer/Repair shop today. They said it isn't an issue they can handle: I have to take it to a body shop. I've taken it to 2 body shops. One believes the door must be replaced (for $3,900) and the other thinks he can fix it without replacing the door. The problem first started as a sound like plastic getting caught. Then it worsened (the weather here got worse as well-- down to -25). When the door was hard to open, I pushed it harder and then I started getting...
I am experiencing the piping sound on the drivers door arm as mention in the active investigation. I called the dealer and they want $4000 to put a whole new door on. The arm Barack also bust my window clips and now my drivers window will not go down as a result.
Driver's side door hinge is loose, making cracking sounds and hard to close. Also affecting the window operation - doesn't allow window to be rolled up.
Door Hinge spot welds broken on the check arm moving freely causing loud noise in the driver door making it hard to operate and won't allow the window to roll down.
Approximately 1/4/2024 The front drivers side door is broken. The bolts broke off on the inside.I had no prior warning, I went to open my door and a huge clunk sound happened and it was difficult to open , there was friction ,opening it all the way is causing friction and I don’t want the door to fall off. Also it’s causing the automatic window not to work now , that only is opening half way . I took it to the dealer to assess the problem and it’s the left door asy , I looked this up online and it’s stating Ford is aware of this problem but still hasn’t issued a recall. I do not want my door to fall off , especially if I’m driving and this happened . This is also a huge financial burden on anyone , please can you help with this situation ....
2020 Ford Escape has a broken spot weld in the drivers door. First the door would stick when opening and closing then it would not close. This cost us a tow to the dealership and from there to a collision shop. My warranty ran out on Feb. 27 this occurred in April on Easter Sunday. I contacted Ford support about the matter, several times, and wrote letters to the Ford Corporation because the cost of this repair should not fall on me this is a known problem to Ford. I have a copy of the paper work that Ford sent out to repair shops detailing the problem. This defect happened in the factory it was not caused by me. In order to close the driver's door I could only roll my window down a few inches. Every time I went to a drive through I had to open my door...
I own a 2020 Ford Escape. While entering the vehicle through the driver's side door, the door made an abnormal popping sound while being opened. The passenger’s side front door also made the abnormal popping sound while being opened. I have been informed by my repair shop that the doors will need to be replaced. I took to my local dealership, Kindle Ford and they informed me that the vehicle is out of warranty as the mileage is at 40,000 miles.
Opened the driver's door and heard a crunching sound and the door could not be opened all the way. Along with that the rear back window would not close and the driver's window went up slowly. Went to the dealership and they say it is a known problem, but they don't have any recalls about them so out of pocket it would cost me upwards of 2000 for the window regulators and 5,000 to replace the door which is a known problem.
My car is what is being investigated under PE23013. The welds on my driver door have come undone.
Heard a cracking or popping when opening or closing front driver side door. Took our 2020 Ford Escape to Authorized Ford Dealership for routine service. While the vehicle was at the dealership we were told that the front drivers door would not close shut. The technician managed to "jimmy rig" the door to get it to close. The door temporary closes but now the drivers window will not operate. Was instructed to take the vehicle to the dealership owner's body shop but due to the mileage on the vehicle it was not recovered under warranty. At the body shop we were asked if the car had been in an accident or if a strong wind had blown on the door. Neither applied. The car has not been in a single accident nor a strong wind pulled or pushed on the door. Was told that we would incur a cost of...
This is 1 of 3 2020 - 2021 Ford Escapes that my company owns and is affected by this known issue with NHTSA and Ford Motor Company as it relates to Ford Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) SSM 50150. The spot welds at the check arm attachment points on the driver door have failed. This has lead to a horrible noise and feeling when opening and closing our door. Sometimes the door does not shut all the way making this a safety issue. The door is now hard to open and close. The window is also inoperable as it either won't roll down at all or, if it does roll down, it will now roll back up. This issue has been inspected by 2 dealerships and they are not allowing our PremiumCARE extended Warranty to cover this. We have had 10's of Escapes with 100,000+ miles and this has never been...

Door hinge broke and caused window motor to fail
The weld on my driver door has completely come loose. The only repair is to replace the whole door.
My driver's side door suddenly made a loud cracking/popping noise when I opened it and then was a little difficult to close. Later when I opened my driver's side window it got stuck and wouldn't go up or down. I took it to my mechanic who said the door hinge had broken free from the body of the car. I then took it to the local Ford dealership who confirmed this is the case and also mentioned this was the second 2020 Ford Escape to be brought in that day for the exact same problem. They were unable to fix it at the dealership and said I need to go to an auto body repair shop to have a new hinge welded back on. Upon doing a little research I discovered that this is a very common problem with this year/make of vehicle.
7/31/23 Used 2020 Ford Escape was bought at Cecil Atkission Motors, it was deemed "fully functional, no present issues." 08/02/23 Tire issues, dealership inspected and found 2 screws in driver tire/failed alignment test. Also suddenly found oil pan and left axle seal leaking. Seal leaking and replaced. Front axle leaking. 12/08/23 Took Ford Escape to Ford Dealership due to broken popping driver door. Vibration while driving 70mph, inspected and the cause of it is front suspension and uneven tires given by Cecil Atkission Motors. Found oil leak again front cover and oil pan, leak on crank shaft rear main seal. Trans and engine dye found between. Rear seal leaking. Rattle noise at cold start, coming from turbo. Misfire at 2 and 3 cylinders. Blindside spot doesn't detect cars next to car. Due to the driver door being broken and unable to open it poses a safety hazard if car caught...
When opening and closing the driver's door, it makes a creaking sound. It will not open completely and will not stay open. In addition, the power windows seem to be affected. I have taken it to a dealership and they report that the door hinges welding has failed.
Spot welds on the driver's side (left) door have failed, teh welds hold the door limiting arm attachment . Documented in NHTSA ID Number: 10201603 Manufacturer Communication Number: SSM 50150 Car has <30,000 miles and is a family vehicle, not high use nor commercial. Failure was recent <2 weeks after noises first appeared. All welds are noticeably failed from the outside of the door.
The driver's side door started making a strange squeaking noise a few months after I bought the vehicle. After about 3 months the door made a serious creaking noise and started to have issues closing. I inspected the door and found a hole in the metal where the weld spot is.
Door hinge on drivers side makes a popping sound and is hard to close Also drivers side window won’t roll down Took the car to dealership and they are checking with Ford to see if the car is covered under the warranty
Driver side door randomly started popping, hard to close completely, and driver side window struggling to roll up and down
Drivers front door started making popping noises. Called Ford dealer where car purchased and they said it just need hinges sprayed with WD40. I did and no change. Went to local mechanic and when I opened the door to show him it popped but then wouldn’t close. He said the welded holder for metal rod broke. Took off door panel to get it to close and now I have car with no door function, door opener, window opener, and door interior panel now in my back seat. Dealer won’t look at for 3 weeks.
The Spot Weld on the Driver side door is broke. based on information read this is an issue on this vehicle where the hinge breaks where the spot weld is suppose to hold. Has to be replaced and cost is $2400. Dealership said they have repaired a lot of these doors/Hinges. Asking to pay $2400 on an issue that Ford knows. They have a notice 50150 fro NHTSA that it is a known issue . Looking to help in reimbursing . per the site--- the spot welds' failure in the door's arm. In interviews with owners, NHTSA learned of 25 "minor injuries" and 1 report of "minor property damage." Some people have reported a popping noise when the door comes open and say that the door can be unable to latch when closed or can suddenly come open when it had been closed. According to the safety agency's investigation document,...
My driver side door starting making cracking sounds when opening and closing then would not close. Got the door to close finally and took to Ford. They said it was something to do with the welds on the door. They originally told me that I would have to pay to have it fixed. Because I purchased the extended warranty I was told it would be covered under that. They told me I would need a new door and that they were on backorder. 9 months later and multiple unreturned calls and I find out they never ordered my door. My door swings open as soon as it unlatches and window doesn't go down.
A few weeks ago, the drivers side front door of our 2020 Ford Escape began to make a popping sound upon opening and closing. The issue has now progressed to the door being nearly impossible to open, and the window will not go up and down. The issue seems to be related to what is described in the NTHSA bulletin SSM 50150.
The driver's side door makes a popping sound when you open and close the door. The car was not involved in any accident and the mechanic stated it was a door hinge weld issue
Drivers side drivers door popping when opened and closed, will not latch
The 2020 Ford Escape was purchased new in March of 2020. The door welds are breaking in the driver's door is the problem. The door does not open or close properly now. It must be slammed to get it to close. The window in that door is twisting in the track so it can't be used. Dealer (Blackwell Ford) identified problem but claimed dealer not responsible and vehicle is out of warranty. (26124 miles on vehicle after1-1/ 2-years of covid shut down.) Ford's customer service department says vehicle is out of warranty and would be no assistance. I think the vehicle should be repaired/replaced at the manufacturers expense! Dealer quoted me a cost of $ 3,000 plus to make any repair. The big question is it safe to drive this vehicle?
defective spot welds at the check arm attachment points on the door on drivers side. Window does not work anymore because of it. Body shop said they have never seen anything like this and that it was not welded at all
DRIVERS SIDE FRONT DOOR CHECK ARM ATTACHMENT POINTS ARE BROKEN AT SPOT WELDS - The door dose not close properly. - Authorized Ford Dealer Charles Gabus Ford in DesMoines, Iowa confirmed the problem
The check arm part of the door hinge is literally breaking off. It appears that the welds are failing and now the door won't close properly. I'm worried that the door may open on it's own or that it may open unexpectedly while I'm driving. The dealer says it is out of the 3/36k warranty period and will cost over 2500.
My car door doesn’t open and close properly due to a problem with the door due to faulty spot welding. It doesn’t open or close properly. From what I see, this is an issue with many 2020 ford escapes. It also causes the window to not go down more than an inch. It could cause the door to open while driving but ford won’t seem to fix this issue unless I buy a whole new door.
The driver door creaks and wines like it is going to fall off or break off when you open it The passenger side door is also starting to do this. I took it to a dealership who told me to go to a auto body shop. They told me it should be a recall and do not pay for the repairs.
