Parked my Escape in the garage on Thursday evening, December 14, 2023. Everything was ok. Opened the driver door Friday morning, December 15, 2023 and it made a funny creaking noise and felt draggy, didn't open smoothly. The noise continued each time I opened the door and seemed to get worse. On Tuesday morning, December 19th I took my vehicle to a Ford dealership to see what the problem was. They opened and looked at my door and said the hinge welds were breaking. They had seen about 5 or 6 Escapes in the last 2 weeks with the same problem. Said the door would have to be replaced - they would check into it and get back with me. My vehicle has 51,000 miles on it, so it is not covered by warranty. It is December 21st and I have not heard back from them and they have not...
PASSENGER FRONT DOOR CHECK HAS CRACKED & IS NOT OPERABLE THERE WAS CONSISTENT "POPPING" SOUNDS FOR SOME TIME PRIOR. HE DEALER INSPECTED AND SAW BROKEN DOOR WELDS. HE INDICATED AT LEAST 3 SAME COMPLAINTS HAS BEEN MADE .THE REPAIR ESTIMATE WAS FOR 2200.00 IF I HAD TO PAY FOR IT THE DEALER SENT A CLAIM TO FORD REQUESTING THAT THEY TAKE CARE OF THE REPAIR I AM WAITING FOR THEIR RESPONSE
Door check bracket. Door randomly started making clunking noises, and middle hinge seems wobbly and unstable.
The door limiter has come lose and the spot welds are damaged.
My drivers door will only open about 6 inches. I have to crawl across the console to drive. I took it to ford dealer who said it was a ford issue but I was a few months beyond my 36 month warrenty so it wasn't covered. He also said not to roll down the window or it might shatter.
Drivers door making a popping noise when opening and closing.
The welds have pulled out of my left drivers door check arm. My car has just 45,000 miles, just purchased 60 days ago. Now they want $2600+ to repair. I see many many many complaints about this issue. Add me to the list. This is ridiculous! It’s not like I had anything to do with the welds not holding!
The driver side door is getting a "popping" and "grinding" sound everytime the door is opened or closed. Upon investigation, the metal lever has become unwelded to the door. All 3 weld spaces are detached from the door. In addition, the window on the driver side is not air tight and is intermittently stopped working. I am very concerned that because of the unwelded parts may cause the door to weaken and possibly fall off my vehicle while driving which could cause a serious accident or even death if driving on a highway.
On 12/6/23, hinge on driver's side door broke. Piece is lodged in the door and window cannot go down. On 12/13/23, car was inspected at Ford dealership. Service Department confirmed hinge broke. According to Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) - SSM 50150, "certain 2020-2021 Escape vehicles may exhibit cracks or broken spot welds in the left front door at the check arm attachment point in the door assembly." According to NHTSA site, "appropriate repair for this condition is the replacement of the door assembly and door check arm." Dealership quoted repair cost at $2,427.75. If car was under warrant the expense would be covered. Due to the car having 39,000 and the warrant expiring at 36,000, Ford is only willing to cover $1,000. I will need to pay $1,427.75 out of pocket.
Driver door hinge welds broke and the door pops and creaks. The broken hinge rubbed on the window wiring harness and now the window won’t open. This has happened to hundreds of 2020 & 2021 ford escapes and my extended warranty won’t cover it because it’s coded as a “trim” piece, which is infuriating as it’s WELDED INSIDE of the door.
Drivers door began to make clicking banging sounds while opening and closing. It now is almost impossible to close and I has a lot of outward pressure once secured. I am scared the door will fly open while driving. This appears to be an ongoing issue with these models with a faulty spot weld but no recall as of yet.
The hinge for the passenger door that holds the door from opening widely broke. This is preventing for the door to close properly and I’m unable to lower the window.
DRIVER'S DOOR CHECK SPOT WELDS MALFUNCTIONED CAUSING THE DRIVERS WINDOW TO BECOME INOPERATIVE
There is a spot weld failure inside my driver side door resulting in the doors hinge being broken inside the door. The door does not open all the way and it makes loud cracking noises. Also, the door will not always latch close properly and can open suddenly without touching it. I cannot roll down my window all the way. I need to crawl through the passenger side door and up over the console to get in my vehicle each time I use it. I am concerned for myself and my family that if heaven fobid we were in a car crash, that this unhinged door would not provide us with the means to keep us safe. The car is unsafe and unusable as the door could fly open at any time. The only fix that I have been offered from Ford Motor Company is to replace the entire door,...
Broken spot welds in the front doors at the check arm attachment point. Have already replaced both door on a 2020 escape and now needing to replace the driver door for a second time. Very poor quality by FORD.
Driver side door quit working, the awelding on the arm is bad. Effects door opening and shutting and window going down.
3 weld spots failed on driver door arm latch
Driver side door suddenly began making loud creaking and popping noise when opening and closing. The driver side window also will not let all the way down since the noises started. Took it to the Ford dealership advised it was the door check assembly that was broke and they order the part. Took it to a 3rd party to have it put on and they advised that there was a failure with the spot welds in the check arm bracket on the the front door. Bracket has pulled out of the front driver's side door. Also advised this is why the window will only let down a little bit. Call the dealership and they advised that the door panel was not taken off so they would of not been able to see the spot welds provided Ford Company# called and stated that they was not a warranty on the vehicle...
Bought my daughter a 2020 Ford Escape. Last week, while at college, she called to say her door was making loud sounds when opening and shutting it and her window wouldn't roll down. Concerned that the door wouldn't stay shut I had her go to the Ford dealership in her college town. They told her they have seen two other Ford Escapes this week with the same issue and that she would probably need a new door. I called my local dealership and was basically told the same thing. They knew exactly what I was talking about before I started in 4-5 sentences. When she got home I went to look at the door. It swings open with no resistance and the window doesn't roll down. Upon further investigating from my local repair shop he helped me look up the problem. It is SSM 50150 -Cracked or broken spot welds...
the paseenger side door hinge welding has come apart making my door unsafe
DRIVERS SIDE DOOR IS CLANKING/ POPPING NOISE WHEN OPENING THE DOOR. THE DOOR DOOT STAY ROD WELD IS BROKEN AND THE WINDOW WILL NOT GO DOWN. IT IS A SAFETY PROBLEM WHEN THE WINDOW WILL NOT GO DOWN TO OPEN IT AND THE DOOR HINGE WELD IS BROKEN. THIS HAS HAPPENING TO OTHERS AND THE DEALER HAS SAID IT IS A PROBLEM THEY HAVE HAD WITH THIS CAR.
The welds on the door bracket broke from just opening the door with no force
The door hold back has detached from its spot welds
Drivers door making noises. I was given the option WHOLE new door- total cost $2900 - I have to pay $1635 for NEW door which by the way will not match my car color as car 3 - 4 years old! SSM 50150 from national highway traffic safety administration. They also offer another solution to solve the problem. Ford should offer a better solution as shabby workmanship
SSM 51553. My vehicle has a known problem with the left front door that has been reported by many other car owners. It presents with a cracked or broken spot weld in the left front door at the check arm attachment point in the vehicle assembly. The wider is also impacted as it will only open approximately 5 inches. A door assembly replacement at the cost of $2100 has been recommended. I contacted Ford and was initially told that they would assist with replacement costs. After two weeks, we were told that we could save paperwork in case a recall was made on this part but there was nothing else they could do to help.
Front left drivers door hinge check arm attachment welds have broken causing a terrible noise and making it hard to close the door. It hasn't been reproduced or confirmed yet by a dealer or independent service center as I just now figured out what the noise was and it's getting worse every time the door is used. Hasn't been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others, I came here first just now. No warnings or messages, just a terrible sound that was hard to pinpoint what was causing it until I saw the spot welds move away from the door when it opened. But now it is hard to close the door.
Cracks or broken spot welds in the passenger front door at the check arm attachment point in the door. Door check broke off from door causing the door to be hard to close or not able to close at all.
ISSUE: Left front door (driver's door) door check spot welds broke free from the door frame making it impossible to close the door without damage. Issue presented itself as a loud popping sound approximately 36 hours prior to weld failure. Until weld failure, I was unsure what the issue was, and was unable to visit a dealership due to time constraints. Door was operated with caution after the issue was discovered, and I figured that something had just popped out of place and would look at it over the weekend and/or schedule a service visit with the local dealer. I was not expecting factory welds to break. The component has not yet been inspected by the dealership or other parties. SAFETY CONCERN: Lack of a functional door check may allow the door to forcefully swing closed while the driver is entering/exiting the vehicle, causing injury. The door may also swing...
The door spot welds on the driver door were not welded properly causing the door to fall apart from the inside. The door and window are now both broken.
Drivers door started popping when opening. I understand this is common with this model. A Ford service tech said it only happens to Escapes. Ford won’t repair past 36000 miles
Driver door (left front to be clear, yes, I know it should be obvious) started making strange sound. Popping/dragging noises when opened and shut. Window sometimes gets stuck going down past about 1/4 of the way down. Now door will not fully open - goes abut 40% open and stops.
For at least a year or better, I noticed a creaking noise in the driver side door. Then on November 14th while doing my first time doing meals on wheels delivery, the door sounded as if it was going to fall off. We drove to Horn Ford Dealership in Brillion where the car was purchased and had them look at it. There was mention that they had repaired a couple of other Ford Escapes with the same issue. We scheduled an appt. for repair. We used the SUV very limited after that visit and only opened the door far enough to enter inside. The loud creak stopped before the appt. on 12/4, but the power window also would not fully open. During this time, I also contacted Ford Motor Company to file a claim, since the SUV was just out of warranty. They worked with our dealership Horn Ford and...
Left front door has popping noise when opening and closing the door. I took it to our dealership and was given an estimate to replace the door because the spot welds were broken and not repairable. They stated that the mileage was 45,300 and not under warranty. They couldn’t confirm that it was safe to drive or if they had seen this problem before. The estimate is $1357.98.
Right front passenger door weld has failed as confirmed by Ford dealership. Car has 84,000 miles on it and is not eligible for warranty. Ford does not do body work and suggested it be taken to a body shop. Took to a body shop and they confirmed the weld has failed. Door can hardly be opened and when it does it sounds like broken metal from within. Cost to fix it was $1200. Found this out in October 2023. To date Ford has issued no recall even though there has been well over 300,000 complaints. Is there anyway we can do?
The driver's door hinge welds broke. Vehicle is available for inspection and do to the nature of the problem I am afraid that the door may fall off. The door and hinge piece need to be replaced to fix this issue. I called the Dealer, and they are aware of the issue but seem to not be willing to get this fixed without charging me due to me being 2 months outside of the bumper-to-bumper warranty. This is a Manufacture defect not an issue caused by me or an accident.
My driver side door began to make a popping sound and was hard to open and shut. Now it feels like the door will fall off or open while driving and has caused the window to no longer roll down. The Ford dealership (Bob Tomes) has acknowledged the problem and the same problem with other same year models but will not take care of the issue unless I pay full price out of pocket.
Driver side door is making a click click sound when opening the door. Doing some research it seems the problem is that the hinge is broken and will continue to get worse. I have to go from the passenger side to get in and out or slightly open the driver door to get in and out.I also noticed that my power window doesn't go all the way down starting today 12/04/2023. I believe this is due to the door hinge problem. I hope this get a recall soon as I'm taking it to the dealership as I use the car everyday. I don't have thousands of dollars for a door replacement and not sure if this will go through my insurance if it's extremely expensive for nothing that I did wrong besides opening my door.
Driver side door began making a popping sound when opening and closing. Eventually window would not go all the way down. Took to dealer and they said there is a known problem with some spot welds associated with the door bracket and that Ford recommends replacement of the entire door. They also said this is not a recall and would cost around $1,800.00 since its out of warranty.
DRIVER DOOR RETAINER WELDS HAVE CRACKED AND SEPARATED. MAKING THE DOOR DIFFICULT TO OPEN OR CLOSE AND REMAIN CLOSED. THERE ARE NO WARNING LAMPS THIS PROBLEM IS ALREADY CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION BY NHTSA SSM 50150. ITS TIME FOR A RECALL OF THIS DANGEROUS LIFE SAFETY ISSUE AS THE DOOR IS ABLE TO OPEN SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING
Driver side door malfunctioning. Popping when opening and closing
The door hinge on the driver's side failed. The 3 weld joints broke off. At times the door will not shut and latch properly, and the driver's window cannot be lowered. The dealer I took the vehicle to informed me that this is a recurring problem with the 2020 Ford Escape. They have had many people with the same problem. Ford refuses to acknowledge that there is a problem.
Drivers door Check Arm has broken from door because of faulty spot welds from factory. You no longer have control of door when opening and door can swing open to full opening and out of control. This problem was confirmed by Fred Beans Ford in Boyertown PA. Apparently according to dealership this is an ongoing issue and Ford Refuses to recall or fix if out of warranty. I was quoted $2800 for the repair. My car has 31500 miles on it.
3 door welds (cracked) on drivers door. making popping noise when opening door. i have confirmed with auto body shop and car dealership, where car was purchased. 2020 ford escape, passed warranty . concerned that door may not close, or open. have heard the popping noise for months, just thought is was dirt in the hinges, but had it checked out at the auto body shop. body shop estimate is $2300
Investigation: PE 23-013
The driver door hinge broke at the 3 weld spots and now the door sometimes closes and other times hard to close. It has also popped open while driving.
Every time the driver side opens, I hear a popping sound. I took it to my local Ford dealership and apparently it was passed warranty just two days prior so no work has been done. They advised me that the welds failed on the door and now the car needs a new door and latch that will take at least a week to complete repairs. My car has only 32,000 miles so it's fairly new. I fear that the door will eventually give out on me and not close properly.
Front drivers door makes popping noise and it appears to be loose. No physical damage. Looks like an internal part failure
broken spot welds in the left front door at the check arm attachment point in the door
Left front driver side door, making loud popping noise when opening and closing. Almost could not close with most recent use. Afraid to open again in fear that I will not be able to drive my car or lock it shut.
Factory Spot welds in driver side door have failed. The swing arm is not attached properly. Door will not open or close properly and it also affecting the window.
