2020 FORD ESCAPE Forward Collision Avoidance Warnings Problems

Shortly after having new tires installed at the dealership the following warnings displayed: AWD Fault Service Required, Hill Start Assist, Pre-Collision and Traccontrol. Mileage was around 10,700, June 2025. Dealer unable to look at until July 2025. Advised that the RDU motor needed replacement. Replacement was completed 7/23/25. The vehicle was 5 months past the Powertrain warranty. So out of pocket was over $1,900. Given the low mileage on the vehicle it seems that this should not have happened. Research here and other websites indicate this is a known issue. The dealer indicated the same.

4WD module was failing. It affected hill braking, AWD and collision alert and other components. These messages popped up on my driver screen repeatedly. Safety was compromised in winter driving in snow with no AWD. Also, safety impaired with no collision assist available and all the other safety features related to the module . I took it in for repair eventually and dealer confirmed error(s) and replaced the AWD module. I got error messages for at least 2 months before I took it in. The car had less than 30000 miles and was only 4 years old when this started. It was repaired in December 2024.

the front camera/ adaptive cruise control, pre collision assist, seems to have spontanteoulsy cut out while driving- a large bump in the road seems to have shook less the coaxial cable connections for the front camera in this car. This caused a fast and immediate deceleration that almost got me rear ended by the truck that was behind me. the car is at the dealership for a faulty cable/ IPMA module. this seems to be a very common issue for these cars. there were no messages PRIOR to the failure but the messages i am getting now are the front camera fault, and pre collision assist is no longer working. Start vehicle an error start popping up, I have to cook OK to clear them. Lots of features that are not available, including hill assist, awd, cruise control. I had warning lights flashing on my dashboard continuously "parking assist off" "AWD off" "Collison Assist Off" I could not change my car over to snow, ice, or deep snow it all showed not available. Receiving multiple errors and Ford determined it is the AWD module that needs to be replaced. However, they say my vehicle is not included in the recall based on vehicle identification number.

My wife and I bought our 2020 Ford Escape new from a dealer in 2020. We are the first owners of this vehicle. In the time that we have had it, we have experienced the following issues: 1- the forward camera module that provides collision prevention, lane assist, adaptive cruise control, etc has failed. The dealer claims that the unit “overheated”. The module is no longer covered under warranty due to mileage. The result is that our vehicle no longer has the safety features that we paid extra for upon initial purchase. 2- the evaporative canister purge valve failed, causing difficult starts after refueling. I have a 2020 Ford Escape and the wrench light came on and I received messages on the dash that said (faulty AWD, faulty hill assist, and faulty collision detection. I took it to Kayser Ford in Madison Wisconsin on January 15,2025 and they replaced the AWD module at a cost of $996. By doing some research, I know find out that there appears to have been a recall on 2020 Ford Escapes for this problem. Kayser Ford says there is no recall and I am questioning this. Thank you.

The awd module is faulty. It's causing thr collision assistance, the lane assistance, the awd and a few other things to not work or throw a faulty warning. I've been doing some digging and it seems to be a very common thing. The ford escape titanium is already in recall I believed

just got off car lot in july 2024 been having trouble with transmission slipping from day one. only i was told the car drives hard anyways but dealership refused to look at it once its off lot. lights are reading hillside drivers assistant and other readings no one can get off

My car says that collision assist, All wheel drive is unavailable and is locked to front wheel drive only.

I'm getting warnings all of a sudden that the Pre Collision Assist, Advance Trac and AWD are either not available or have a fault and need service. There were some other warnings which I don't recall as when driving I wanted to keep my eyes on the road as much as possible. Right now, it is not showing those. I have lost all safety features like backup sensors, forward sensors, lane wandering and blind spot warning. I have lost convenience features such as cruise control and parking assist. Got an Advanced Trac warning on my dashboard. Lost my AWD traction control forward collision assist. Took it to my service station. They did a diagnostic testing and told me it could be a power train problem and may be covered under warranty and recommended that I take it to the Ford dealership because this appears to be a common problem with Ford Escapes. They also told me that my shocks are starting to leak which is also a common problem with Ford Escapes. The vehicle is a 2020 Ford Escape SE with 53,000 miles. Recently, The message screen began flashing messages AMD OFF, Hill Start OFF, Collision Warning OFF. Based on social media, this appears to be a common problem with the 2020 Escapes. According the Escape owners, dealers first check software and if not the issue a electronic module is replaced at a cost of up to $1100. Some of the failures reported were on vehicles with 20,000 miles or less. Aside from cost , there is a safety concern that module overheating may cause engine fires. The vehicles should be recalled for this concern.

The entire advanced track system quit working. Sometimes if you turn the vehicle off and on a bunch of times it will work until you turn off the vehicle.

AWD module has failed and per FORD is not covered in replacement cost. Multiple error messages about forward collision, AWB and adaptive cruise control. This module was covered un a previous customer satisfaction program (Customer Satisfaction Program 21B19) and in multiple issues noted in on line forums should be taken up for a recall. Vehicle appears to run more poorly and thus could put myself and passengers at risk for accident. The error shows up every time the vehicle starts up. I see there are over 40 complaints listed here and I am sure there are more.

Different warning lights were coming on in my suv while I was on vacation a couple weeks ago. The lights consist of AWD, Pre-collision assist, traction control and hill assist. The door and window is also broken but that will be fixed for free because of a recall. I’m extremely frustrated because I just got this car in February. I am getting the following error messages: awd fault service required/ service AdvanceTrac /pre collision assist not available / hill assist not available/ AWD off / powertrain malfunction/ reduced power.

Two notifications come up on the screen after vehicle is started. Front camera fault service required. Pre-collision assist not available. This started right after pre collision assist went off on 05/13/2024. There has been no inspection on the vehicle

At 25,768 miles, multiple warning messages appeared including: service advanced track, 4WD fault, no cruise control ability, no pre-collision assist, hill side assist fault, and no traction control. BC self test was performed by a mechanic. The vehicle was purchased 3 months prior at the same dealership that performed the test. Results: No communication with AWD module found. The issue was AWD module faulty. AWD module was replaced and reprogrammed. The issue was not covered under the power train warranty (available for 5 years, 40,000 miles) due to the problem relating to the electrical system.

The AWD module malfunctioned and had faults. Issue was confirmed by dealer with no explanation and had no cause for failure. AWD fault and Service AdvanceTrac warnings appeared and reappeared each time the vehicle was turned on. Vehicle could only use front wheel drive and cruise control was also affected. The dealer kept the malfunctioning module so unknown if it will be inspected.

My AWD module went out and several features of my vehicle were in-operable. I have read that this is a common problem with this vehicle, and it tends to happen around the same mileage. The failure of this module makes the pre-collision assistance fail

The front radar that enables collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control, etc. has failed. It first started as an intermittent problem that quickly progressed to a total failure. The vehicle was not involved in an accident or any misuse that would cause this problem.

Out of no where I got codes for a AWD system fault, pre collision fault and hill start and traction assist fault.

While travelling we got a message on our dasboard stating that the AWD had a fault and needed to be serviced. We called the dealership and they said it was okay to continue to drive the vehicle. However, we made the soonest appointment available with the dealership, thinking we were still under warranty. I was just driving one day and then the hill start assist warning, pre-collision assist not available, and Powertrain malfunction/reduced power warnings all popped up. Upon further research there have been MULTIPLE people with this exact issue. Ford states the AWD module needs to be replaced. I have yet to do so but will do so in the near future.

Error message that AWD, and associated sponsors are not functioning. This is failure of AWD Module LX6Z 7P238 AANP. Ford has issued a minimum recall/service warning (but not all 2020 Escape models). All warnings and assistance related to AWD are incapacitated/not functioning, including auto parking brake.

Awd module failed Problem confirmed by dealer Ford previously had a recall for this exact problem. That recall should not have expired as the problem is still ongoing.

AWD Module Failure and needs to be replaced. Service lights came on, and awd was disabled, pre-collision was disabled, and hill-start assist was not available. I looked this up, and al ot of people have had the same problem. The vehicle was just outside the warranty (37,688) and cost over $1100 to repair. AWD should be considered to be in the Powertrain warranty that is still active.

MY ESCAPE CROSS TRAFFIC ALERT SYSTEM ONLY WORKS HALF THE TIME AND YESTERDAY IT DIDN'T WORK AT ALL. IT'S BEEN AT NORTHGATE FORD SO MANY TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT IT'S STILL NOT FIXED.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2020 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STOPPED AND PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY EXPERIENCED UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AND CRASHED INTO A CONCRETE PILLAR. DURING THE CRASH FRONT END WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED BUT THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. ALSO THE COLLISION ASSISTANCE SAFETY FEATURE DID NOT ACTIVATE TO AVOID THE CRASH. DURING THE INCIDENT THE DRIVER SUSTAINED AN INJURED CHEST WHICH DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL TREATMENT. NO POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TOWED. THE LOCAL DEALER ROYAL OAK FORD LOCATED AT 27550 WOODWARD AVE, ROYAL OAK, MI 48067. AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000.
