TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHRYSLER PACIFICA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED, THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE CROSS MEMBER CRADLE WAS FRACTURED AND HAD A LARGE HOLE DUE TO CORROSION. WITHOUT THE CROSS MEMBER CRADLE, THE ENGINE WOULD FAIL TO REMAIN IN PLACE AND COULD CAUSE A CRASH WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,694.
TOOK OUR 2004 PACIFICA IN TODAY FOR AN ALIGNMENT TO FIX THE SHAKING WHEN THE CAR IS DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY AND WAS TOLD THAT AN ALIGNMENT WOULD BE A WASTE OF MONEY DUE TO THE RUSTED OUT FRAME UNDER THE CAR. HADN'T HEARD A SINGLE WORD ABOUT THIS ISSUE UNTIL TODAY. WE'VE HAD THIS CAR SINCE 2005, BOUGHT WITH 12, 000 MILES ON IT AND NOW IT HAS 85, 000. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO HAVE THE BRAKES REPAIRED, THE TECHNICIAN NOTICED THAT THE UNDERCARRIAGE WAS SEVERELY CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 142,608.

SUB CHASSIS FRAME ASSEMBLY RUSTED AND CORRODED. WAS FOUND WHEN TAKEN IN FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE. WAS ADVISED SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN IN CURRENT CONDITION. *TR
BROUGHT MY CAR INTO CHRYSLER DEALER FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND THEY CALLED ME TO SAY THAT THEY WOULD NOT RELEASE THE CAR TO ME BECAUSE THE ENTIRE SUBFRAME WAS RUSTED AND ROTTED OUT IN SPOTS. DEALER TOLD ME THE CAR IS A TOTAL LOSS AS THE REPAIR IS $6500 (BLUE BOOK VALUE ~$3500) AND THIS PROBLEM IS VERY COMMON BUT UNFORTUNATELY THERE'S NO RECALL. THIS IS A GARAGE KEPT CAR, LOW MILEAGE. HAD MECHANIC CHECK CAR OUT AND FOUND THAT THE SUB FRAME HAD MAJOR RUST AND HOLES IN IT. CHRYSLER RECALLED 2004 PACIFICAS THAT WERE MADE IN A 6 WEEK TIME PERIOD AND FIXED THOSE BUT NO OTHERS. IN RESEARCHING THIS MATTER THERE ARE A LOT OF 2004 PACIFICAS WITH THIS ISSUE AND CHRYSLER IS REFUSING TO FIX THEM. *TR
I RECENTLY TOOK MY 2004 PACIFICA TO MY MECHANIC TO GET AN OIL CHANGE AND HE ADVISED ME THAT MY SUBFRAME WAS RUSTED, ROTTED AND CRACKED WITH HOLES. HE SAID HE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THAT IN HIS MANY YEARS AS A MECHANIC. HE ALSO TOOK PICTURES OF IT TO SHOW ME. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL CHRYSLER AND THE HEADQUARTERS AND ADVISED THEM OF THE SAME. THEY SAID THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT COULDN'T HELP ME BECAUSE MY VEHICLE'S AGE WAS OVER 10 YEARS OLD. I EXPLAINED TO THEM WHAT THE MECHANIC SAID AND THAT THE PART WAS DEFECTIVE NOT BECAUSE OF THE AGE OF THE CAR BUT BECAUSE OF THE DEFECTIVE PART. AFTER HAVING MY FRONT TIRES REPLACE MY MECHANIC SHOWED ME PICTURES OF WHAT WAS LEFT OF MY FRAME FROM RUST AND ROT. HE SAID I HAD 2 CHOICES WELD OR REPLACE. I REALIZE THE CAR IS OVER TEN YEARS OLD, BUT THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. I DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH 2004-2005 PACIFICAS, AND WANTED TO ADD MY COMPLAINT TO THE RECORD. I WENT TO GET A FRONT END ALIGNMENT ON MY VEHICLE AND WAS INFORMED THAT MY VEHICLES SUB FRAME IS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. AT THE TIME, I ACCEPTED THIS EXPLANATION AT FACE VALUE BUT IN HINDSIGHT IT PROBABLY WAS PREMATURE RUST. I CAN'T FIND ANY INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET THAT SUGGESTS SPRAYING CLAY IS ACTUALLY A REAL PRACTICE. FURTHERMORE, THE CAR WAS MANUFACTURED IN CANADA. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO GOOD YEAR FOR INSPECTION AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE CRADLE WAS RUSTED THROUGH AND IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
OUR CAR SUFFERED FROM A SEVERELY RUSTED FRONT SUB FRAME (ENGINE CRADLE) THAT REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. WE HAD THE SUB FRAME REPLACED, CHRYSLER REFUSED TO HELP OR COMPENSATE IN ANY WAY. *TR
OCTOBER 31, 2012; THE CHRYSLER DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT NOTED THE OWNER THAT THE ENGINE SUBFRAME (ENGINE CRADLE) HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND ADVISED THE OWNER THAT THIS COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE AND POSSIBLE INJURY OR DEATH DUE TO LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW AT THIS DEALERSHIP, REGISTERED, SERVICED, AND DRIVEN IN THE CHRYSLER DESIGNATED "SALT BELT" STATE OF OHIO FOR ITS ENTIRE SERVICE LIFE (STILL IN SERVICE, STILL IN OHIO, STILL OWNED BY THE ORIGINAL OWNER). APPARENTLY THERE WAS A CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SATISFACTION CAMPAIGN LETTER IN NOV. 2010 THAT WENT OUT TO VEHICLE OWNERS IN THIS AREA FOR THIS YEAR-MODEL VEHICLE, REGARDING THIS POTENTIAL CONDITION. HOWEVER, THIS OWNER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. WHEN THIS LETTER WAS ISSUED, THE VEHICLE WOULD HAVE BEEN INSIDE THE 10 YEAR/150,000 MILE SERVICE WINDOW AND QUALIFIED UNDER THE EXTENDED CHRYSLER WARRANTY. FORTUNATELY, NO CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OCCURRED BEFORE THIS CONDITION...
THE ENGINE CRADLE OR SUBFRAME HAS RUSTED THROUGH ON THE RIGHT SIDE. I WAS TOLD THE CONDITION THE SUBFRAME IS IN MY VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
ADDING TO PREVIOUS COMPLAINT. I FIND THERE IS AN INTERNAL RECALL GRANTED TO ONLY A FEW. I AM OVER THE MILEAGE DUE TO MECHANIC'S FAILURE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. TOOK FOR A SECOND OPINION, WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR IS UNSAFE AND THAT THE CORROSION WAS OBVIOUSLY THERE FOR SOME TIME. CAR IS DANGEROUS THAT ENGINE CAN FALL OUT AT ANYTIME. DID CALL CHRYSLER AND THEY MADE NO MENTION OF RECALL LETTER OR BULLETINS RELEASED ON THIS PROBLEM. BASICALLY SAID SOL THAT THERE IS NO RECALL. THERE ARE HOW MANY PACIFICAS ON THE ROADS WITH DRIVERS UNAWARE THAT THEIR VEHICLE IS A DEATH TRAP TO THEMSELVES AND OTHERS ON THE ROADS. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUED IMMEDIATELY. *TR
I WAS HAVING PACIFICA SERVICED AT GOODYEAR STORE IN NEWPORT, KY PRIOR TO DRIVING TO FLORIDA. MECHANIC CALLED ME TO SERVICE AREA TO SEE SERIOUS RUST THROUGH ON FRONT FRAME RAILS AND ENGINE CRADLE. HE SAID "DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR TO FLORIDA. THE ENGINE COULD DROP IF FRAME BREAKS". I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO WYLER CHRYSLER AND HAD THE RUSTED FRAME REPLACED. I LATER FOUND THAT CHRYSLER HAD EXTENDED THEIR WARRANTY TO SPECIFICALLY COVER THIS PROBLEM. I DID FILE A CLAIM WITH CHRYSLER AND THEY DID REIMBURSE ME 80% OF THE REPAIR COST. I BOUGHT THIS 2004 PACIFICA FROM A DEALER ABOUT A MONTH AGO. TOOK IT TO THE SHOP TO GET MY SHOCKS LOOKED AT AND THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULDN'T DO ANY WORK ON IT BECAUSE THE SUB FRAME WAS ROTTED SO BADLY THEY ADVISED ME NOT TO DRIVE OR PUT ANY MONEY INTO THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I WAS ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE AND THAT THE SUB-FRAME REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. THE LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER WAS UNAWARE OF ANY RECALL, BUT CHECKING THE INTERNET I FOUND THIS CONDITION TO HAVE OCCURRED TO NUMEROUS OTHER PACIFICAS.
