On November 28th 2018 my 2016 Ford Fusion was taken to R. D. Sawyer Motor Corp. (a Ford dealer) to have work for Recall 18S20 performed. On 10-21-22, the exact symptoms that Recall 18S20 were designed to prevent, "unintentional roll-away", were experienced by my daughter after she parked the vehicle on a mild incline. Although my daughter had moved the shifter into Park, the vehicle was actually in Neutral which allowed the vehicle to roll forward. Fortunately, there was an earthen embankment in front of the parking space so the vehicle did not roll very far before it was lodged against the earthen bank. I shudder to think what could have happen had it been parked in a spot that was without a barrier in front of it. A silent, rolling, unmanned vehicle could easily take the life of an unsuspecting pedestrian. The vehicle was towed to Levittown Ford (3195...

Car engine lost power on interstate potentially causing a serious and life-threatening accident. Upon inspection by mechanic, car is losing coolant into the engine cylinder due to design flaw in engine long block and head gasket. Only warning light was immediate and "engine overheating". Ford Motor Company has confirmed acknowledgement of this issue on 2016 to 2019 Ford Fusion and other Ford models but have not issued a recall for this problem. Car has 72K miles with no history of engine failure, overheating, etc. This problem has been reproduced by Ford dealership and inspected with camera to confirm engine coolant within cylinders. Ford also confirms that they've seen this several times and it is due to engine design flaw for ecoboost models 2016-2019.

Vehicle is suffering from coolant intrusion into cylinders. This is a widely know and reported issue. Vehicle is overheating which is a serious fire hazard. There is no way that vehicles with the affected powertrain should not be recalled! These cars aren’t lasting 60k-70k miles! Total Ford rip off! They should be held accountable for a repair due to their fault costing over $6k!

My 2016 Ford Fusion Titanium with the 2.0 EcoBoost has 75k miles. A couple of days ago, it started misfiring on cylinder 1 while driving. The vehicle started jerking when trying to accelerate onto the interstate. White smoke started pouring out of the exhaust and the vehicle was violently shaking. The check engine light illuminated and started flashing. I was stranded on the interstate waiting for a tow truck as the vehicle wouldn't start after I turned it off. The shop the vehicle was taken to stated the was a crack on the engine block causing coolant to get into the cylinder. Now I have to pay over $6k out of pocket for a long block replacement. This is a common issue with EcoBoost engines, and now the consumers are stuck forking the cost of a replacement. Ford knows this is an issue... More importantly, the fact I was stranded...

Was in reverse to enter a parking spot, shifted down to drive (lever moved to D) but car stayed in Reverse. I could freely move the lever from Drive to Reverse but the transmission would not shift out of reverse. I moved car to parking spot, moved lever to park (car never shifted out of reverse), put the emergency brake on, then shut the car off. The car will no longer start now because the transmission is stuck in Reverse (lever is in park). Significant safety issue...I could have unknowingly reversed into anything or anyone at first when I "shifted" to Drive remaining in reverse. Upon inspection the bushing/cap did fall off of the shifting cable, which was recalled on thousands of Fords same model and year. Consumer had to pay for a cap and seal to replace the one that was missing.

A bystander assisted the contact with stopping the vehicle by engaging the parking brake. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the contact was informed that the shift link cable had fractured. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that they could not assist as the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V362000 (Power Train). Car is in park but the dash is showing the car is still in drive. Unable to move shifter at all.
#11464529 |
Gear bushing issue not included in 2016 Ford Fusion Recall in 2019. Car was in a hand wash car was when the bushing broke and rolled into reverse. The car was turned off and then would not start because the gear shifter would not allow the car to go into park even though the shifter appeared to be in Park.
#11464254 |
The power steering goes out randomly, mostly when it is hot outside or on the interior. It is not included in the current recall for this issue, however it needs to be. It happened in 2021 and now is still happening in 2022. No issues prior to the failure until power steering alert goes off. I have almost crashed multiple times due to this failure.
#11463116 |
This recall should apply to my VIN but the dealer say it does not. NHTSA ID: 19V362 My car did exactly this issue thought I had put the vehicle in Park by the shifter but when I went to get out of the vehicle it started to roll away. I have found this part in the recall notice is what the problem but they won't replace it. So now I have a unsafe vehicle.

On February 15th 2022 I experienced to failure in my powertrain system regarding the transmission center cable. I had my vehicle in park in a public lot and it began to roll away towards oncoming traffic. Thankfully I noticed and was able to get back into my vehicle and apply the emergency break before anyone was hit or injured when I looked closer I realized my gear shifter was in park but the dashboard read that my car was still in drive. When I tried to move the shifter It was completely stick in place and I had to get my vehicle towed to a Ford dealership. I spent $256.59 to have the transmission shifter cable replaced. In doing research on the issue I have learned there have already multiple recalls for this exact issue on 2016 Ford Fusion but when speaking to the dealership and looking on this website...

At a fuel stop I put shifter into park and turned off engine. When refueling was completed car would not come out of park. Dash shift indicator showed car was in neutral. Car was towed to local Ford dealer where inspection showed shifter cable had detached from transmission. The Ford dealer service department repaired the issue by replacing shift cable bushing (part number DG9Z*7K340*A) and cap (part number DG9Z*7S004*A). It is unknown if the replaced parts are available for inspection since I do not know if the service department retained them. It is unknown if components have been inspected by others. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. After researching this problem this appears to be the same issue that prompted a recall of the 2016 Ford Fusion with 2.5L engine.

We have a 2016 Ford Fusion. We’ve already had major engine work done on it by the dealership about 2 years ago. Then about a year later, the transmission wouldn’t go into gear. We took it in to have looked at and they said that the bushings failed and the shifter cable detached from the transmission. They charged us 184.00 and sent us on our way. They failed to tell us that this can damage the transmission cause now a year later they are telling me I need a new transmission on a 2016 Ford Fusion. This is the 2nd Ford Fusion I’ve had that had a transmission go early. I’ve also had a F-150 with Transmission problems. I was assured that they fixed the problems from the older years when I purchased this new from The dealer. The Ford Fusion has had a recall on the shifter cable and...

Shift cable broke. clip broke and end of cable.

I put my car in park and it stayed in drive even though I remove the key and there was no chime or warning. It would roll away unless the emergency break was applied. it seems to be the same exact issue as recall numbers: 18S20, 19S16 and 18V471.

Cable from gear selector and transmission failed. Car countined moving once put in park. This problem is known to affect 2016 Ford Fusions. No. No warning lamps or sounds, the car just continued to roll.
#11451147 |
The shifter cable has degraded and detached from the transmission, allowing the transmission to be in a shift state other than what the shifter lever shows. Although there is an existing recall for this exact issue, my vehicle falls outside of the specified manufacture dates and Ford is unwilling to remedy the issue. As a result I need to fix the issue out of pocket in order to prevent severe injury or loss of life.
#11450771 |
The shift cable clip broke and vehicle is stuck in neutral. There is a recall for this problem for ford fusion's 2013 - 2016. We have a 2016 but the vin # is not included in the recall, unsure why it is not included.
#11448609 |
My Fusion would shift into park using the shifter, but was actually in neutral allowing the car to roll forward and backward even though the shifter was in park. It is at the dealer now and they said they shifter bushing failed. There is a recall for Fusions (reference # 19s16), but the dealer says it does not apply to my vehicle. The recall is for Fusions with the 2.5 motor and I have the 2.0 motor. However, I asked the dealer and both vehicles use the same bushing, so I think my car should be covered. Luckily no one was injured in this incident but it could have been avoided if my car was included in the recall. This occurred in Provo, UT where my son is using the car for School.

When you put it in Reverse you have to pause. If your foot is on the gas is slams into reverse and makes a terrible sound and gives you a jolt! My girlfriend has the same exact car and hers did this as well. But there was a recall on her car and she had it fixed. I looked up recalls on my car 6 months ago and there were about 8 and now there are none. Can't seem to see why!
