Transmission started whining from the pump and then immediately lost power/acceleration. Electronic diagnosis found code P0733 for incorrect gear ratio for 3rd gear. Dealership recommends torque converter replacement and transmission overhaul. Fine metal debris found in transmission fluid sample. Estimate $5,500 and occurred at 110,000 miles on odometer.
Driving at approximately 65 mph a maintenance light came on. While pulling over smoke filled the cabin of the vehicle. A large jolt occurred and the vehicle no longer had power to the wheels. Upon exiting the vehicle transmission fluid had coated the side of the car. It is available for inspection. Breathing in transmission smoke seems dangerous I have found other references to this problem on forums online It has not been inspected The maintenance light appeared just before failure. And the rest of the failure lights came on after.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact initially received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train). The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the recall repair was performed. Recently, the contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the gear shifter failed to shift out of park(P), with the gear shift indicator on the instrument panel indicating that the vehicle was in neutral(N). Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to the dealer, and it was determined that the failure was caused by a defective shifter cable bushing, and the contact was provided an estimate for the repair. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 225,678.
The shifter cable bushing failed after being replaced under recall 7 years ago. When leaving a parking spot and trying to shift into drive my shift lever started to move freely and my digital PRNDL display was all white letters (usually the selected gear is lit up orange). No warnings displayed on my dash. I sensed something was wrong so I applied the parking brake and shut off the engine. I’m thankful this happened when I was leaving a parking spot and not when I was parking my car and getting out (potentially causing the car to roll away with my kids running behind the car on my hilly driveway). This is a known problem that Ford has issued multiple recalls for in the past. My car was covered by one early recall in 2018 (I will upload the Carfax service history showing date and mileage of 2018 recall repair)....
Shift Lever Does Not Select Accurate Gear Due To Worn Bushing (NHTSA 22V-413, OEM 22S43): A degrading bushing attaching the shifter cable to the transmission in certain 2013-2019 Ford vehicles, including the 2016 Fusion, may detach, preventing proper gear selection and potentially causing unexpected movement. Dealers will replace the bushing and add a protective cap.
purchased a used vehicle. At the time of purchase, there were no visible issues with the car. However, approximately 20 days later, a significant jerking and knocking problem related to the transmission appeared. Due to this issue, I stopped using the vehicle for a while. After consulting with a mechanic, I was informed that the transmission needs to be replaced. As of now, the car is struggling significantly to move. When I turn the ignition, the engine starts, but the vehicle does not move. If I turn the ignition off and restart it, it may move slightly after shaking the vehicle, but then it quickly stops and displays an error again. In this condition, the vehicle is not drivable. Unfortunately, the person I bought the car from refused to accept any responsibility or take the car back, despite my clear communication about the issue. Additionally, the following issues have also...

A bystander helped to push the vehicle into a parking space and then activated the parking brake, preventing the vehicle from rolling. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V362000 (Power Train); however, the...
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that his wife informed him that upon starting the vehicle and attempting to shift to drive(D), the gear shifter was stuck in park(P). The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the shifter cable bushing was missing. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V362000 (Power Train); however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the shifter cable bushing had rotted away. The dealer recommended the shifter cable bushing be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact was concerned that the repair was temporary because the dealer repaired the vehicle with the same part. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 145,068.
I was sitting at a red light and thought I felt my car very lightly shift out of gear. The light changed, I took my foot off of the break and pressed on gas car revved slightly but didn’t move. I placed it in park went back through the gears to drive pressed on the gas and the vehicle went into limp mode was able to pull over to the side of the road. Vehicle was towed to a certified mechanic who advised I need a new transmission. There were no warning indicators no messages NOTHING!
Kept getting a misfire on cylinder 2 after ford preformed a “recall” on the power train control system well the car now has coolant leaking into the number two cylinder causing it to shake violently and complete loss of power luckily my wife was able to pull safely off the roadway with my [XXX] son present before losing control and having an accident INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I was sold this car in 7/2023. I have replaced the transmission 2x now, the flex plate has broken, the brakes have needed replaced 2x. I was sold a lemon vehicle and now the car has a negative equity of $11,000 and I'm completely screwed.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine overheated with the check engine warning light remaining illuminated. Additionally, on several occasions the vehicle failed to start. Also, while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would not properly accelerate. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that coolant had leaked into the engine and the engine needed to be replaced. The contact was also informed that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 160,000.
Ford states the Power Bushing previously recalled was replaced in 2021 in my vehicle. Their replacement failed today and left me unable to safely put my car in park. While I was looking under the hood to see why it wasn't going, the car began to roll forward because I didn't realize it was not safely in park. The replacement for the recall failed and had disintegrated. Previous recall 18S20. The dealership would not replace it because it was not an open recall and after calling customer support they let us know their records showed it had been replaced. There was not protective service cap added during this "fix".
The car started to jerk as I was driving. Sometimes it's OK other times it starts when I accelerate like it goes out of gear came on. I did try to take it to AutoZone with the light had already gone off. I also took it diagnostic. they said that I could Transmission control module issue. I change my battery voltage. Immediately battery this resolved the problem for about 30 minutes and then the process started over again. Insecure driving this vehicle at this point I have read online. This is an issue 2016 Ford fusion I need help .
My car has about 120k miles on it. The issue is that the coolant leakes into the cylinders. Tried replacing cylinders but problem came back. Dealership says the engine needs repair. The safety issue I had was I was driving on the hwy at about 60. The car suddenly went from 60 to 30. If a car had been behind me I would have been hurt. The manufacturer ford will not pay. I have seen many of this exact same issues on your website. This IS a safety issue. What can you do?
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 126,000.
Gear shifter was stuck in “Park” and unable to move shifter and change gears. The car was actually in Neutral. There were not warning signals the car was in neutral and could roll away. This puts the driver, passengers, pedestrians, and property at risk of injury/damage. Several recalls have been issued for 2016 Ford Fusions transmission bushings for this exact issue. When I contacted the Ford dealership they stated my VIN number was not impacted by the recall. I had the vehicle towed to my mechanic where the issue was identified as the transmission bushing, which they replaced. I then contacted Ford Motor Company who looked up my VIN and stated my vehicle DID have a recall on the bushing and that the part was replaced in Dec 2019 (prior to me owning the car). The replacement part used to address the recall had the same issue as what it...
Transmission is constantly jerking when engine light is on. Driver assist back up reports to return to dealership and the front just doesn't work at all.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that when placing the vehicle into park(P), there was an abnormal grinding sound coming from the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
Engine failure-yes, available for inspection The engine may fail at anytime leaving me and/or family stranded. Putting us in danger of being seriously injured or even killed. Yes, the dealer mechanic explained that the coolant was leaking into the head gasket/ block. He stated this was a known issue by Ford. He also stated that he would not drive the more than just home from the shop because otherwise we were at risk for stalling on the road. The vehicle had not been inspected by anyone. However, the state of Virginia requires an annual inspection which was completed on 02/29/24. Check engine light came on, took to a mechanic he replaced plugs. Light was off and car running fine. Check engine light came back in. We took it to the dealer the next day. The car was only driven to the dealer.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked on level ground, the contact attempted to shift the gear shifter into reverse and drive however, the transmission failed to respond as needed. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle failed to restart. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: 22-2322. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 175,000.
I have this car with a coolanat leak into the Cylinder causing a misfire resulting in fuel/oil in cylinder and white smoke coming from the exhaust. i keep on having codes pop up and my cabin smells like burnt oil my kids are smelling this on a daily basis its bad for their health i know Ford knows about this problem. if my car catches fire because of the oil problem whos responsible, I've changed out spark plugs. coils. fuel injectors. all sensors. an nothing seems to work. when i changed my oil it looks like oil is flooding my motor an covering my entire engine an leaking everywhere its also a road hazard
The transmission jerks sometimes between 1 and 3 gear. It was slipping a little in second gear. That issue only happened one time but for the most part it’s a hard shift on a regular basis between 1 and 3 gear.

My driver door lock light will not glow when I lock my vehicle. Transmission is slipping and has a recall on it. Front brakes has a recall.
In August 2023, brought my 2016 Ford Fusion SE ecoboost with 77,000 miles on it to Ford Dealership due to vehicle stalling on 3 different occasions within a 3 week period. Occurred at low speed while starting out. No warning lights came on. They performed 2 recall notices (one dealing with powertrain control module) and said a fuel sensor code came up and they replaced that. Also replaced auto transmission fluid though wasn't required requested by me. See attached paperwork #1 A little over month later, car stalled on highway at 60mph. Wrench warning light came on. My son was able to pullover over safely and restarted and seem to run fine again. Called for another appt. and Ford dealership took in on Oct 3rd. During that time, car skipped (maybe between gears) a couple times around 40mph. I was told that torque converter and a couple other things were...
Vehicle does not go in gear when shifter is put in the corresponding gear indicator. Though I am able to move the shifter handle through all the drive modes, (P, R, N, D, S), it’s Currently stuck in park and will not get in gear to Drive, neutral or reverse. I’m unable to move the vehicle. There is no indication or warnings of malfunction. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by anyone to assess, as I am unable to drive the vehicle. Pending towing to the near Ford dealership for diagnostics. The vehicle drove just fine the morning of the incident.
There is an issue with the (evap) solenoid/associated sensor that causes the vehicle not to restart at unexpectable intervals and the fuel delivery system is also affected during fueling and seemingly during acceleration, at least. The key was recently replaced and association between the problem and the key reading mechanism is unspecified. A power train affect/association is also likely component- that based upon information provided to consumer. I've heard similar problems with other Fords and in other conversations it has not been indicated to me that the models' component's failure is not problematic. It has not been stated how that is contributory to the increased collision risk associated with the brake component that is a current recall. It began prior to the key replacement which is in the dealer repair record and 4 weeks prior to this submission is listed as the incident onset date.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that after parking the vehicle and shifting into park, the transmission failed to shift out of reverse. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle seemed to return to normal functionality; however, the failure persisted. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 210,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while leaving a drive thru and accelerating, the vehicle shut off with the “Transmission Not in Park” message displayed. The contact shifted the vehicle into park and was able to restart the vehicle and the vehicle then operated normally. On another occasion while reversing, the vehicle unintendedly shut off. The contact attempted to shift into park however, the vehicle failed to shift out reverse. The contact checked under the hood and notice that the shifter cable was detached. The contact was able to reattach the shifter cable and the vehicle shifted into park. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train) and was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline. The dealer was contacted and stated that the VIN was not...
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that after restarting the vehicle after the vehicle had been parked for several hours, the vehicle hesitated and then shifted abnormally into the intended gear. The contact stated that the transmission warning light was illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The local dealer was contacted by phone and the contact was informed that the VIN was included in one open recall however, the recall was not related to the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 122,000.
The defect is the fly wheel. Was advised by a mechanic that the fly wheel breaks due to an oil pump issue or a tab inside the transmission itself. had to replace a broken fly wheel twice in 8 months. Looing up complaints and recalls it's the same motor and issue the edge was having. costing so far over 4500 dollars . The issue has been lloked at by 3 mechanics and now its back in a tranmission shop being looked at due to tranmission issues and broken fly wheel again . driving and there has been sound etc in the transmission area. lossing power and finally the car stopped . would not go in gear or move. had to be towed . first bill 685 dollars now looking at 5200. car only has approx 92000 miles same motor that the edge has been havong problems etc. this motor needs...
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving 75 MPH with cruise control activated, the cruise control system inadvertently deactivated and the vehicle lost motive power before going into LIMP Mode. The check engine warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who inconclusively diagnosed a possible failure with the torque converter or front transmission pump. The vehicle was towed to another independent mechanic, who determined that the transmission flex plate was fractured. The contact stated that the transmission flex plate had fractured before and had been replaced eight months prior to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,300.
I take it to mechanic they say my car have transmission problems is making lot noise and stop and go really crazy. The dealer say there is nothing wrong with car. The. Brakes sometimes get me scared when I drive I feel we r not safe. No and they can’t fix it because they don’t have the part for the brakes. The msg was check owner manual something like that which can mean lots different problems in ur vehicle.
Coolant leak into engine caused by factory defect at 95,000 miles. Requires complete engine replacement.
I was driving and my car started to make whinny noises and my car started to jerk, I tried to accelerate but the car would just rev up and wouldn’t move. I saw many people have this problem with the same vehicle
As I was driving my kids home from school, my car suddenly started to make a loud whining noise every time I accelerated. Eventually, the car stopped accelerating altogether despite me pushing on the gas pedal. To my surprise and my children's fright, the car suddenly jerked forward, nearly causing a collision with the car in front of us. In order to reassure my children and assess the situation, I pulled over to the side of the road. Although I didn't find any visible damage under the hood, the loud whining noise persisted even after restarting the car and attempting to accelerate. This problem definitely sound like a transmission problem.
