My car is having a problem with the a coolant intrusion into the intake so coolant is leaking into the engine, this being said there was a recall for my car a while ago when I did not own the car and I believe it was never replaced or taken care of. When I went to the ford dealership they are saying that there is no recall for my car. The car misfired once which is one of the symptoms, I got my spark plugs replaced, my check engine light came on again for a different problem, I got my intake replaced it ran fine for 4 days and now I am back with the same problem 4 days later. Doing some research I believe that there is a cracked cylinder head or failing gasket. Ford did have a recall on my engine coolant intrusion but like I said prior...
The engine experienced a piston misfire that occurred internally, causing a fracture within the engine block. The resulting damage allows oil intrusion into the spark plug chamber. This constitutes a mandatory safety concern that requires immediate attention.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V695000 (Back Over Prevention). While driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle started running rough. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who retrieved DTC: P0302 (Misfire in Cylinder #2). The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic, who retrieved the same code and informed the contact that cylinder #2 ignition coil and spark plug needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. While driving, there was white smoke coming from the tailpipe, but the vehicle was still running rough. The engine overheated, and the contact pulled over and added additional fluids to the engine. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with coolant intrusion, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact obtained an extended...
My vehicle has the Ford EcoBoost 2.0 liter engine in it that has been recalled on thousands of vehicles. My car currently has the same issue which is a coolant intrusion that has been recognized and was a class action lawsuit against Ford for this issue. I have been advised by a local Ford dealership that my engine should be part of the recall and Ford should be replacing my engine. However, when I called Ford, they are advising there is nothing they can do, because there is no current recall for my vehicles VIN and so I am trying to reach out and see if there's anything that can be done before hiring an attorney, because as a single mother I cannot afford $12,000 out of my pocket with hopes that eventually Ford will do the recall properly and reimburse me as they have stated "could happen". This is...
The engine light intermittently went off and on for a few weeks. During that time, the car would surge and slow/loose power while driving it, which was distracting when in traffic. The dealership found that coolant had leaked into the engine block and we were informed the engine had to be replaced. I talked to 2 dealerships and they both said this was something they had seen a lot - and while the engine for the Ford Escape was recalled, the same engine was not recalled for the Ford Fusion.
The contact owned a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal sound coming from underneath the hood. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic, where the engine gasket was replaced, and the vehicle was diagnosed with a warped engine block. The vehicle was repaired. In addition, the contact was informed that there was a coolant intrusion leak and an engine overheating failure. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
Coolant Intrusion
Engine block needed replaced due to coolant intrusion. Started off with an engine light for misfire then started using coolant to smoking on start up then eventually hydrolocking the engine for a no start condition making car undriveable. Diagnosed at dealer for coolant intrusion with only fix of a new block at a cost around $10,000.
I have a Coolant intrusion for my car it is supposed to be recalled and serviced under warranty or the Csp
The 1.5l engine is having known issues with coolant intrusion into the engine under 100,000 miles. Many people are bringing up their issues staying ford is confirming the mass amount of engine issues with intrusion and quoting $6,000 for new engines. This is absurd because these vehicles should not have an engine known to fail at 100,000 because of leaking coolant into the cylinder. I started losing coolant at 90,000 miles and having to fill it back up.
Had head gasket done at 78600 for misfire in cylinder 4 for coolant intrusion 11000 miles later I have misfire in cylinder 4 again with coolant intrusion
My complaint is, why does my 2016 Ford Fusion 1.5L 4-Cylinder EcoBoost Engine continue to be excluded from these major recalls? It's not fair as I deserve to have my engine, clock spring, & my rear view camera replaced just like the other Ford vehicles! I purchased my 2016 Fusion in 2018 & only a couple of years later I started having problems with the rear view camera but the dealership said that it wasn't covered under the warranty. I have always smelled engine coolant & oil but was always told that there is nothing leaking on the ground so there's nothing to worry about. Also I reached out to you guys in 2024 with the Gmail address of [XXX] ) about my steering wheel clock spring & never heard anything back, so I purchased a new one on [XXX] & replaced it myself when it arrived. Also earlier that...
132,582 miles 2016 SE AWD Ford Fusion 2.0 EcoBoost. About Two wks ago Driving car at 55mph warning indicator Engine temperature High came on. Pulled over turned off AC left engine run on side road for approx 2min thermostats went from just above mid line back down to normal level drove 10miles home engine coolant empty in reserve had just checked two days prior when checking all other fluids and it was at Max. Filled back up with Orange premixed Coolant no leaks observed engine light went off drive two days check and coolant stayed third day noted coolant down under min check engine light on again filled back to max vehicle sputtering when starting then idled down and no stutter Husband ran diagnostic and misfire cylinder 3. Changed all 4 plugs and cylinder 3 coil pack no antifreeze noted in any cylinders at that time. Car started up fine...
My coolants been leaking starting at around 110k miles and it seems like the 2016 ford fusions with 1.6L are know to have coolant intrusions due to a defect in engineering by Ford. This problem eventually leads to corroded head gaskets and can cause the engine to basically explode in the middle of nowhere which is a safety concern. The costs of repair is over 4k+ for a new engine or just to replace the head gasket for something Ford engineers should be liable for. Please look into this and you may even look at my car if you like.
The coolant was leaking i to the engine and caused a crack in the block leading to the need to replace the engine
Dear NHTSA, I am reporting a potential safety and design issue related to my 2016 Ford Fusion Titanium with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine. The vehicle is experiencing coolant loss with no visible external leak, which is a documented issue under Ford TSB 19-2208. This condition can lead to sudden engine failure or hydrolock due to coolant entering the combustion chamber. A compression test revealed all cylinders at 155 psi, indicating the block has not yet failed — but the symptoms are known warning signs of the defect Ford acknowledged in its Customer Satisfaction Program 19N05, which does not include my VIN despite identical failure risk. Ford has refused to provide goodwill support under case [XXX], despite this being a well-known failure that has prompted engine replacements in other affected 2.0L EcoBoost models. Please document this case as part of your ongoing safety tracking. I believe this design flaw represents a...
My car is hard crank when put fuel in it. It also puffed out blue smoke. My check engine light is on.
The engine coolant over temperature light came on and i was forced to pull off the side of the interstate because the car had lost most of it’s power. It’s my understanding the 1.5 L eco boist engines have a failure where they allow coolant to leak into the cylinder. We had the car looked at, let it cool down and the code cleared and drove home. This happened again and luckily we were close to a family members home and were able to limp the car there with very little power. The car was checked by a mechanic and they could not find a problem. The code was cleared and it drove fine again. Today the car did the same thing after a 30 minute drive and luckily we were close to home and once again limped it back to the house. I will be calling Ford in the...
My engine died from the design error with the engine block and coolant leaking. This needs to be remedied by Ford. It is not on the recall list, and it absolutely should be.
Coolant intrusion 1.5l
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was able to restart. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000.
Coolant intrusion into cylinder 1, low coolant and Engine DTC P0301. Multiple TSB's by Ford recommend engine replacement as a remedy for the Cylinder head - open deck cooling problem. Customer Satisfaction Program 21N12 addresses this problem in similar cars/engines. Has this been expanded to cover this vehicle with the same 2.0L engine? From Ford TSB 19-2346 "Issue: Some 2015-2018 Edge and 2017-2019 Fusion/MKZ/Escape/MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L EcoBoost engine may exhibit a low coolant level, white exhaust smoke and/or a runs rough condition with or without an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL). Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) may include P0300, P0301-P0304, P0316, P0217, P1285 and/or P1299 stored in powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to coolant intrusion into the cylinder. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to replace the long block engine assembly."
My 2016 Ford Fusion SE 2.0L Turbo has been emitting some white smoke, then the other day it would not start right away. When started it ran rough for a few minutes on idle and when driving it does not have much power anymore and it would hesitate a lot if trying to accelerate. SO getting on the interstate that morning I nearly got rear ended by a semi-truck because I could not accelerate up to speed. The check engine light came on shortly and I took it to a mechanic who did tests to diagnose. The diagnostic showed misfiring in cylinder 2 most likely due to coolant intrusion. After doing some research it was evident that many owners have had this happen and had to replace their entire engine for 6000+ dollars. My car only has 114,000 miles on it and it should function properly. I have seen cars...
engine light turned and, scanned it and code is P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire detected. Coolant is leaking into the engine. I have looked online and multiple people have had this issue, majority of them taking their vehicles to Ford dealers and being told they need an engine replacement. I have taken my vehicle to a mechanic shop and was told the same thing. my safety was at risk because this issue caused my engine to overheat and the engine would not turn on for a while after. with coolant being mixed in with the oil, it damages the engine and can cause the car to stop being functional while you are still operating it. I am also including a link to a website that has proof that Ford delearships have seen this issue before, are aware of it but do nothing to fix it [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE...
Ford has a recall on 2016 Ford Fusion transmission cable shifter. My car is not under the recall but displays the issues the recall states. My car jerks during acceleration and difficult to park. Can please help me resolve the issue with Ford. They refuse to fix the issue because my car VIN# was not placed under the recall. It is not fair for me to pay for an mechanical issue that was defective by Ford causation.
Coolant intrusion causing engine failure per diagnostic TSB 22-2134 applies.
Started car and out of nowhere it began sputtering. Then Engine light came on and when tested the diagnostic said “cylinder 2 misfire. I didnt drive anywhere and light was off today when I crank it. well started driving and light is flashing. Ford dealership said this is a common issue from poor design engine but my car only has 40,000 miles. This seems to happen to ALOT of the 2016 eco models. Says coolant goes into engine. I’m aware most of these models have recalls but not 2016 why!!!!! It’s clearly a faulty engine problem if so many people are having the exact problem and code.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, there was smoke coming from the exhaust. The check engine warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that on several occasions while driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle was shaking abnormally before losing motive power. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, where it was diagnosed with a faulty engine block. The contact was informed that the engine block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 145,000.
Engine spontaneously became extremely rough, losing power while at the same time engine light started flashing. Had car towed to auto shop. Which stated cylinders 2 and 4 were misfiring. Sought second opinion from different auto shop which confirmed that cylinder 4 was not performing and cylinder 2 was performing minimally. Engine has 47,000 miles on it. Ford customer relations contacted which provided case # [XXX]. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that on two occasions when the vehicle was started and running, there was white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe and the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the engine overheated and the vehicle started shaking. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and restarted the vehicle after approximately 30 minutes. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the contact was informed that there was a misfire in cylinder #3, and the engine block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000.
My 2016 Ford Fusion 1.5L EcoBoost has developed Fords known Coolant intrusion into the head gasket and block issue. I’m currently experiencing dangerous misfires, violent shaking, with EVAP/O2 codes (not sure if related). I got it towed and received diagnosis and the car will be needing a new engine. 124K miles on vehicle at the time. We demand immediate NHTSA investigation and a Ford recall.
My engine is misfiring and now i have to replace my engine.
Engine has total failure due to coolant in cylinder 2. Ford is horrible
Coolant leak caused head gasket and block damage. No warning lights ever on to indicate issue. Car simply wound not start one morning. Was towed and received diagnosis of needing new engine. 57K miles on vehicle.
I had an oil change and drove the car for a week no leaks in my driveway. Then a week later at 6am driving in traffic the red engine light comes on, the car slows down, I pull over and turn the car off. It would not turn back on. I had to have it towed and now I’m told I need an engine. How? The car has been maintained and I didn’t hit anything or run over anything. The oil pan is in tack. This could have been serious as I work over night. This needs to be a recall on the 2016 Ford Fusion Titanium AWD 2.0 eco boost.
FORD ALREADY KNEW THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH ENGINES IN THE SE ECOBOOST,, THERE IS A MISFIRE ON CYLINDER 3.INSTEAD OF THEM RECALLING ALL OF THOSE ENGINES THEY ONLY RECALLED A FEW PUTTING EVERY ONE ELSE SAFTY AT RISK .PLEASE HAVE THEM RECALL MY ENGINE . THEY WERE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM WITH THESE ENGINES I HAVE BEEN CALLING THE LOCAL FORD SINCE LAST YEAR TO CHECK ON RECALLS FOR THIS ENGINE. I WAS TOLD THEY DIDNT HAVE RECALLS ONLY TO FIND OUT THEY DID HAVE SOME RECALLS ON THIESE ENGINES MY CAR STARTED OVERHEATING IN THE MEDIAN OF THE HIGHWAY I ALMOST CRASHED TRYING TO HURRY AND PULL OVER TO A SAFE PLACE. PLEASE DO A RECALL ON MY ENGINE
Coolant intrusion into cylinder 4. Engine light on. Reads Codes: p0304 and p0316. Recommended replacement of an entire short block. Common problem on their ecoboost engines. Officially diagnosed by Ford dealership on 04-08-2025.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to exceed 80 MPH while driving. The vehicle started jerking and failed to exceed 60 MPH. The vehicle jerked and then failed to exceed 40 MPH. After refueling, the vehicle was slow to start. The contact had to pump the accelerator pedal for the vehicle to start. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who retrieved DTC: P02, P0087, P0131, P0302, and P1450. The mechanic informed the contact that the vehicle would not pass State inspection. The local dealer was contacted, who confirmed an unrepaired recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The failure mileage was unknown.
I take good care of the car, went in for a check up with engine light on, said I needed new spark plugs, they replaced those. Then it didn’t go off, so then brought it to a master mechanic and he said I have a coolant intrusion and need a new engine. This happened out of nowhere.
Car has white smoke coming from exhaust smells sweet. Coolant continues to be low, even after filling up check engine light for misfire. This is due to coolant intrusion common with the 1.5 L engines on the fusion. There was a recall for the 2017 but mines a 2016 and has the same issues. This is an ongoing issue with this car. There is a This is an ongoing issue with this car. There is a class action lawsuit and it’s been acknowledged by Ford that this is an issue
The car apparently leaked coolant into the engine was given an estimate of $9425.09 to replace the long block assembly. Apparently this is a no issue from Ford Motor Company. I did write a letter to Ford as well as spoke to someone on the phone. He acknowledged that this was unknown issue and that they were in no position to do anything financially to help.
Our 1.5 EcoBoost engine overheated on 3/20/25, my daughter was driving and the vehicle started shaking and it slowed way down, for a moment she feared for her life, she said it had a message and the check engine symbol was illuminated and the vehicle would not accelerate, when she got it was leaking coolant and white smoke, I took my OBDII scanner, one code was P1299 Cylinder Over temp Protection Active, it now emits white smoke and overheats and looses fluid. I have an engine coolant intrusion so my car is misfiring
The transmission failed suddenly. To my understanding there have been reported issues with the transmissions for this vehicle having sudden failures without warning. My car slipped out of gear while driving 60mph. I have had the car towed and checked by a certified mechanic who confirmed that the transmission has failed, and its poorly built. My mechanic used to be a mechanic for FORD and is familiar with the poor build quality of the engine, transmission and turbo. I have not had the component inspected by anyone else. There were no symptoms or warning lights before this failure. The car was driving fine and then, the transmission slipped and failed.
I believe this car falls under the coolant leak recall that is still under investigation. The car started losing coolant and had white smoke coming from exhaust. I believe the coolant channels have cracked and caused the leak. It needs a new motor to be drivable again. I have been waiting for the recall to cover my vin. The recall currently covers similar vehicles.
Kept getting a misfire on cylinder 2 after ford preformed a “recall” on the power train control system well the car now has coolant leaking into the number two cylinder causing it to shake violently and complete loss of power luckily my wife was able to pull safely off the roadway with my [XXX] son present before losing control and having an accident INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle occasionally stalled and hesitated to restart. An unknown warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic where the canister purge valve was replaced several times however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the canister purge valve was replaced, and the engine was flushed. The vehicle was repaired out of pocket; however, the failure reoccurred. In addition, the vehicle was taken to a local service center where it was scanned. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
The canister purge valve in this vehicle repeatedly goes bad. I had a 2015 and now 2016 both with the same issue. It throws the check engine light on and will just about die everytime putting gas into the car or when stopped for random periods of time. The vehicle uses more gas and you can literally smell the fumes escaping from the flapping gas tank lid. In order to start the car you have to pump the gas petal and occasionally the car will stall out while driving.
Engine failed while driving on the highway due to a known defect with a coolant leak into the engine. My safety, and the passengers that were in the auto were put into danger when the engine malfunctioned due to the fact that we were on the highway, traveling at 65-70 mph, when the car suddenly started shaking, emitting white smoke from the exhaust and eventually stalling and not drive able. The only indicator that came on was the check engine light. There was no low coolant light to indicate that the auto was low or leaking coolant. There was no messages or codes to indicate a low coolant level in the car. The vehicle has been inspected and diagnosed by my a certified mechanic.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at 60 MPH, the vehicle began to hesitate and lose motive power; symptoms of which the contact attributed to a cylinder misfire, prompting him to discontinue driving the vehicle. After reaching the residence, the failure persisted for several weeks until the vehicle ceased to start and run. Upon a visual inspection of the engine compartment, the contact observed that the engine was almost completely without engine oil. The contact stated that the engine was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: 20–2132. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 171,000.
