Wife called and said when she started he car she could not turn the wheel. I went to pick up the car and realized the power assist was not working. Took the car to the dealer where it was purchased by us. Was told that there was a recall on this component but that it had expired and our warranty expired 3 months before the incident. Dealer said the recall might be extended because so many people had reported this same problem. Paid $2500 to get the repair. Seems like there are a very high number of cars with this problem. Mileage on our car was only 72,000. None of the other 5 Ford cars we purchased since 2011 had similar problems with the steering.

Power steering does not work all the time. When the power steering goes out it is very hard to turn the steering wheel.I took it to the dealership where I bought the car brand new in 2011,the dealership was aware of this known problem (safety recall 15S18) but said that the recall was only good for 10years or 100,000 miles. This is a safety problem, and when this power steering goes out my wife and sister can’t turn the steering wheel. They refuse to drive the fusion till it gets fixed. To fix this problem the dealership said the part will cost 1514.64. And the labor is about 1400.00. Yes almost 3,000.00 to fix a problem that Ford knows about. There is a lot of Ford fusions out.there with this problem! Please help us make Ford accountable for this problem

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the power steering assist would intermittently fail to operate while the ABS and the check engine warning lights would illuminate on the instrument panel. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where the code reader indicated a malfunction with both the ABS and the power steering. The mechanic informed her that since the parts were all electrical, he could not repair the vehicle; he could only reset the codes. The mechanic also informed her of NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering) which he linked to the failure. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed her that her vehicle was not included in the recall and referred her to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage approximately 135,000.

My husband and I were driving down the road and the steering went out. We almost had an accident but given my husband's superior driving skills we were able to avoid a collison. After the steering went out we immediately had two warning lights show up on our instrument panel. One said Stabilitrak Control and power steering light. We took this vehicle in for service and the mechanic said it would be $2800 to repair the rack and pinion. The codes this vehicle displayed are exactly the same codes that are part of the recall of the 2011 ford fusions. No other issues with the car at the time of incident.

I was driving home from school and all of a sudden I couldn’t turn the wheel. I didn’t know what was happening I called my grandmother terrified. She told me to go home and turn the wheel really hard to get it in the parking lot and park. I had the car towed to fire dealer. They said I need a steering assembly. My car was not on the recall list and the warranty was out 3 months. The cost would be $2,300. This is a safety issue and it’s the same issue as the 2011 Ford Fusion’s that were recalled. I want to upload the billing and need my vin added for the cost to be covered for repair. I thank you in advance for your assistance. My husband is the primary driver for our 2011 Ford Fusion Hybrid. We are second-hand owners of the vehicle and have had it since 2020. Earlier this month (Dec 2021) the power steering failed and it became difficult to control the car. My husband transports our youngest daughter to daycare daily and we live in Nebraska which means we deal with icy road conditions seasonally. This failure puts my husband and our daughter at risk on the roads. Per the vehicle history, there was a safety recall regarding power steering that was repaired at a dealership July 2011. This repair included reprogramming the power steering control module. Because the power steering assembly was not fully replaced at that time, this enacted an extended warranty that was good for 10 years OR 150,000 miles starting from the original warranty date - whichever came first. When we came into ownership of this...

My husband was driving this vehicle two days ago and the power steering froze. Fortunately, he was able to steer it to safety because he is quite strong, however I would never have been able to manage this, and as such the incident presented a safety issue that could have been quite hazardous to us and to other drivers. I looked online and Ford does not have an active recall for the power steering unit, but instead posted a notice indicating "EPAS Steering Effort Campaign #15N01." I contacted the dealer, who told me that since the car is now out of warranty (as of May 2015, when we had no problems to have fixed) that they would not fix it for free but for approximately $2,500.00. I asked a Ford Chat representative for an email address and was told, "Thank you for your patience Jane. You are looking for an...

On 12/13/21, my son swerved out of an accident and hit a high curb which damaged the driver's side tire. Luckily the Air Bag did not discharge. Recall 21S12 Driver Air Bag Inflator Replacement was issued in March of 2021, yet I did not receive a letter, and my car still has not been repaired. Are you waiting for a fatality to occur before providing the dealers with the necessary supplies?

While leaving a parking lot, the power steering system on my wife's 2011 Ford Fusion with approximately 64,000 miles failed without warning. That failure resulted in the steering wheel freezing in position rendering the car uncontrollable. A warning statement appeared on the instrument panel indicating a failure in the power steering module had occurred. Towing was required. After speaking with the Ford Recall Center and performing additional research online we found that there had been a recall #15S18 for 2011 Ford Fusion with only a limited number of VIN numbers included. Our Fusion was not included. As the result we had no idea there was the possibility of a spontaneous failure of the steer system. Although our VIN was not included in the recall it is crystal clear that the safety hazard still exists, and our vehicle should have been included in the recall. Though our research we found that...

On october18,2021 our vehicle lost power steering. We had the vehicle towed to BobSight ford in lee's summit, mo. We heard there had been issues about power steering assist. Looked up recalls on NHTSA WEBSITE and found campaign # 15v340000. We contacted the dealership about the recall but they told us it wasn't a recall situation. We were charged $1845.97 for repairs. The vehicle was ready on October 26,2021. When there is over 393,625 vehicles potentially affected why would this not be an issue that is considered a recall. I feel that I was charged for repairs unjustly and that this dealer was negligent in their actions. Fortunately there was no crashes or injuries with this vehicle. I consider this a very dangerous situation that needs to be addressed and taken care of on all vehicles that this applies to. I feel I should be reimbursed for the charges. Thank you.

POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE. When this appears the car is very difficult to drive. My safety and the safety of others is at risk when this happens. Thank Goodness I was not going when this occurred otherwise I could have hit someone. The problem has not been inspected by the manufacturer as they can't even fix my air bag recall, No other warnings. this has occurred now about 4 times. shutting the car off and restarting it seems to reset the issue.

I was pulling my 2011 Ford Fusion out of the driveway to park on the street in order to drive my second vehicle. When I got to the street, the power steering fault message displayed on the instrument panel and the steering wheel was very difficult to turn in either direction. This is the third time this message has been indicated. After each time, the problem was corrected by turning the car off and then restarting the car. The third time was different as when I got the car to the street and attempted to park it at the curb with the power steering disabled, the car engine actually shut off without warning. Restarting the engine and waiting to move the car a few moments cleared the fault message and the steering was returned to normal. The fourth time I went to drive the Ford Fusion, the power steering fault...

Since the first time that bought the car appeared twice in three months at the moment of starting the car: ASSISTANCE STEERING POWER FAILURE. Then turning off the car and start again would go off and run normal. However today appeared and nothing worked. After one hour trying to make it work we never could. So, we had to call the towing service and go home. I’ve checked the recall but nothing appears under my vin number that has to do with this problem

My power steering quit working. The screen said “Power Steering Assist Fault”. It was inspected by a Ford Dealership and not covered under warranty due to mileage. My safety & the safety others was put at risk when on the road driving at slower speed to control and steer the car. The problem has been confirmed by the local Ford Dealership. It has not been inspected by anyone other than the dealership. There were no warnings prior to failure. As soon as I turned the car on, the message “power steering assist fault” came on and I had no Power steering.

Power steering cut out while making a turn onto another road. Has cut out intermittently several times in the past. Shutting down the car and putting it in park fixes the issue. Very dangerous to have it happen while driving.

Over the history two months, my car is having steering fault issues. There have been times when I get in my car to heading to work just for the steering to lock up on me. I just got my car back for the dealership for the airbag recall. I understand the recall for the air. I can not comprehend why there has not been a recall on the steer. My brother who has the same make and model had the same issue.

Driving down highway going approximately 45 mph when the advance trac system light came on. Informing of power steering malfunction to get service immediately. Pulled over and turned car off. The power steering reverted to manual with light still signally repair. Drove it home and called dealership. Said we are out of warranty and would be a $119 diagnostic fee plus whatever repairs are. However, the same thing occurred in 2018 and when we took it to dealership we had the warranty which covered the diagnostic. Roger Shiflett of Gaffney, SC looked at it in 2018, never mentioned the 2015 recall. Told us that it went off because the tire treads were not the same and caused it to malfunction. Reset it and sent us on our way. So here we are again but this time out of warranty and out of pocket and have no way to know if...
