2011 FORD FUSION Steering Problems

Wife called and said when she started he car she could not turn the wheel. I went to pick up the car and realized the power assist was not working. Took the car to the dealer where it was purchased by us. Was told that there was a recall on this component but that it had expired and our warranty expired 3 months before the incident. Dealer said the recall might be extended because so many people had reported this same problem. Paid $2500 to get the repair. Seems like there are a very high number of cars with this problem. Mileage on our car was only 72,000. None of the other 5 Ford cars we purchased since 2011 had similar problems with the steering.

Power steering does not work all the time. When the power steering goes out it is very hard to turn the steering wheel.I took it to the dealership where I bought the car brand new in 2011,the dealership was aware of this known problem (safety recall 15S18) but said that the recall was only good for 10years or 100,000 miles.This is a safety problem, and when this power steering goes out my wife and sister can’t turn the steering wheel.They refuse to drive the fusion till it gets fixed. To fix this problem the dealership said the part will cost 1514.64. And the labor is about 1400.00. Yes almost 3,000.00 to fix a problem that Ford knows about. There is a lot of Ford fusions out.there with this problem! Please help us make Ford accountable for this problem

My husband and I were driving down the road and the steering went out. We almost had an accident but given my husband's superior driving skills we were able to avoid a collison. After the steering went out we immediately had two warning lights show up on our instrument panel. One said Stabilitrak Control and power steering light. We took this vehicle in for service and the mechanic said it would be $2800 to repair the rack and pinion. The codes this vehicle displayed are exactly the same codes that are part of the recall of the 2011 ford fusions. No other issues with the car at the time of incident.

Recall 21S12 Driver Air Bag Inflator Replacement was issued in March of 2021, yet I did not receive a letter, and my car still has not been repaired. We were charged $1845.97 for repairs.The vehicle was ready on October 26,2021. When there is over 393,625 vehicles potentially affected why would this not be an issue that is considered a recall. I feel that I was charged for repairs unjustly and that this dealer was negligent in their actions. Fortunately there was no crashes or injuries with this vehicle. I consider this a very dangerous situation that needs to be addressed and taken care of on all vehicles that this applies to. I feel I should be reimbursed for the charges. Thank you.

Steering rack has almost completely locked up I took my car to dealership and they told me it had been recalled but because my car was over ten years old they informed me they were not responsible to fix it any longer

POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE. When this appears the car is very difficult to drive. My safety and the safety of others is at risk when this happens. Over the history two months, my car is having steering fault issues. There have been times when I get in my car to heading to work just for the steering to lock up on me. I just got my car back for the dealership for the airbag recall. I understand the recall for the air. I can not comprehend why there has not been a recall on the steer. My brother who has the same make and model had the same issue.

I was leaving a gas station and was backing out of parking stall when I lost all power steering and could barely turn steering wheel so I put it in park and shut off car then started car again and had power steering again..thi s happened 4 times driving home...when I tried to leave home the power steering was gone...on every occasion the power steering assist fault light came on car message center...the last time the warning message stayed on ..I dont see a recall for my vehicle but there is for other models

The power steering failed after restarting the car. A warning light related to the power steering came on on and I stopped the car a couple minutes later to get gas and when I turned it back on, there was no longer any power steering. My car was not covered by the previous power steering recall.

The power steering reverted to manual with light still signally repair. Drove it home and called dealership. Said we are out of warranty and would be a $119 diagnostic fee plus whatever repairs are. However, the same thing occurred in 2018 and when we took it to dealership we had the warranty which covered the diagnostic.
