2.0L EcoBoost engine and coolant intrusion. Coolant leaked into two of the cylinder heads, resulting in engine failure and the need for a full engine replacement.Initially, the vehicle would not start. A tow company technician was able to get the vehicle started, after which I was advised to drive directly to my mechanic. I was informed that the exhaust smelled like diesel fuel and that if the engine were shut off, it was highly unlikely to restart. At that point, the check engine light illuminated. The dealership confirmed the coolant instrusion and the need for a new engine.
Coolant intrusion
Long block repair due to coolant instrusion which is a known issue with this ford edge model. Dealership is quoting me $8468.16 to replace. Per their diagnosis they found coolant intrusion in cylinder 1 combustion chamber. TSB states replace long block assembly and retest. I was driving the car and it started feeling like it was skipping. I immediately returned home as I had just left the house and parked it. When I parked the check engine light came on. My husband noticed blowback in the oil and we called a tow truck driver to tow the vehicle to the dealership.
There was a constant burning smell off and on over the last year coming from under the hood. Some days it was stronger than others. Engine compartment was hot when hood was opened. Would the engine catch fire? The coolant level would drop/leak randomly causing car to sputter or vibrate while sitting at traffic lights, etc... Traffic behind me was ready to move, but my car wasn't moving at the normal rate. It wasn't safe. Warning lights would come on, but not always. Sometimes it would throw a code and sometimes it wouldn't. For the first several months, we didn't know what exactly was going on with the vehicle. Unfortunately these cars are still being sold with this problem. We bought one of them from a dealership and got stuck paying for a new engine. Clearly, someone ditched this car before the engine replacement became their problem. We aren't the...
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving on three separate occasions, the vehicle failed to accelerate upon depression of the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was previously diagnosed with a cracked flex plate, and the flex plate was replaced twice; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that while driving at 60 MPH, the vehicle made an abnormal knocking sound and lost motive power upon depression of the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact related the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program: 22N12. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was provided. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to file a vehicle safety complaint. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Had a misfire when starting the vehicle so took it to a mechanic. There is a coolant leak in the engine block which appears to be a major problem with this year and make. Can cause engine failure and other problems.
Recently my Check Engine Light came on and I had the vehicle diagnosed with a local repair shop. The code P0301:00-EC was pulled from the vehicles scan. Upon further research this code is linked to TSA 19-2208 issued 06/27/2019. Ford knew that the engine design was flawed and only issued a TSA bulletin. This issue could cause catastrophic engine failure and fire. This issue is not a maintenance issue but a serious flaw from the manufacturer. There is also a class action lawsuit, Miller, et al. vs. Ford Motor Company - Case No: [XXX] filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California. I am hoping that you will take interest in this, as there are probably many 2nd or 3rd owners of these vehicles that are unaware of the severity of the engine flaw. My vehicle has been at the Robinson Ford in Baton Rouge LA...
My ford edge has a 2.0 ecoboost engine 2015 model year they are known for having head gasket problems It just occurred to me at 115 thousand miles ford knew for the problem early on and kept building the same engine all the way up until 2019 model year There should be a head gasket replacement recall at least, so many people with so many head gasket problems the internet is full of reports
Coolant is leaking into the engine cylinder due to head gasket failure. Mechanic confirmed the problem. Engine may fail without warning. Known issue in EcoBoost 2.0L engines from 2015 Ford Edge models.
Coolant is leaking into cylinders. This is causing a misfire. Ford calls for a long block replacement due to the original long block not being thick enough.
My Vehicles Engine had a Cylinder #2 Misfire that was a result of Coolant Intrusion. This issue seems to be a known issue and Ford did correct for post 2019 vehicles, but I had to pay over $8,000 in repairs to get a new motor because that Coolant Intrusion issue ruins motors. I don't understand why I am responsible for this egregious problem Ford never corrected for 2015-2019 Ford Edge Owners. In no way should a person be responsible for over $8,000.00 in repairs on a vehicle that failed from a Manufacturing defect/error/issue. This expense is now a financial burden on not only myself but my family. I had to take a personal loan out to cover the cost. Certainly unfair. I have owned this car since it was brand new. only owner and it's been wonderful until this issue has appeared. i'm begging the NHTSA to force Ford to...
Kept up regular maintenance on car. The vehicle began to lose power while driving and took in to shop, was told the cylinders were misfiring. Had replaced twice and was told there were leaks. Engine failure.
55,000 miles and start the car it shakes and engine light comes on. My plugin said misfired cylinder so we Take it to Apple ford in maplewood, mn and they say it has coolant in engine cylinders and need to replace the engine for about $7500 and it’s not drivable they said. Internet has many lists of this complaint for my engine but still no recall. I’ve had it parked since waiting.

Under normal driving conditions, engine had severe misfires, flashing check engine light, and vehicle had to be pulled to side of highway. Took several hours sitting on highway to get tow truck to tow to dealership. Dealership confirmed coolant in pistons and deemed it a catastrophic engine failure. Problem appears to be widespread with many reports of the same, and a known engine defect that causes the problem.
Engine light and problem with catalytic converter 2015 ford edge sel and seat driver ac air blowing make seat cold.
My 2015 Ford Edge, with 95,000 miles, has a 2.0L EcoBoost engine that requires a new engine (Engine Long Block Kit) due to a coolant intrusion into the cylinder. Diagnostic trouble codes include PO302, PO217, and P0316 are consistent with TSB 19-2346 (See pic attached). There are also other Diagnostic trouble codes which include PO219, PO6E9, and P1026 (See pic attached) The service station that serviced my vehicle said this was the 4th Ford Edge they have seen this week with the same issue and Ford has recalled some of these vehicles but not my VIN#.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. In addition, the contact noticed white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with failed spark plugs. The contact was informed that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was informed that the repair was not covered under Technical Service Bulletin: 22-2229. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 148,193.
My 2015 Ford Engine recently had engine failure. Came out of the blue. Had just undergone recall at ford dealership in Norwood, MA weeks before failure. Had just received inspection sticker weeks before failure. No warning lights came on. Suddenly started having white gray smoke coming from exhaust. Car not running properly. Smell from engine. Spoke with mechanic who said to have it towed not to drive it. Diagnosed with engine failure. Has approximately 103,000 miles on it. One owner. Routine maintenance. No issues with the car. Just noticed there is a recall in 2021-2022 ford edges with 2.7 choose engine. Sounds like my car. I have read and heard from several mechanics that this is a known problem with the Edge in particular. Would be interested in some feedback. This is a devastating expense and if this is a common theme I think Ford should be held responsible. I...
The 2015 Ford Edge and similar models are notorious for flex plate cracking, which Is an absolute hazard to anyone driving it. These things can crack or shatter spontaneously, causing the engine to stop running, even mid-drive. This issue is known, yet the NHTSA hasnt deemed this as a true recall, so Ford isnt covering replacement of this part. PLEASE reconsider recalling this part!
Coolant is draining at a fast pace. Unsure of where it's leaking.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact stated that the vehicle stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a cracked flex plate within the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 122,000.
coolant intrusion in cylinders on the engine 2.7 ecoboost Ford made a bad engineering decision on the headers and block to allow coolant to flow through the gaskets to get to the other side of the cylinder. Now with a vehicle only 98K miles I'm expected to pay more than the car is worth to get it fixed or be out of a vehicle or find a scrape yard or someone to buy it off of me just to save some money. I can't trust any American auto makers with my money going forward. Auto shop Notes - The vehicle has the history code of P0316- misfire detected in the first 1,000 revolutions and P0304- Cylinder four misfire detected. The active counters was checked and it is steady on four but the other cylinders will drop random. The vehicle will smoke coolant out of the tailpipe also. This all indicates...

Car has ~119k miles on it. Driven ~ 100 miles daily (predominantly highway). Flywheel made noise and broke within 2 days last week.
2 fly wheels have been changed with ford parts within the last 2.5 years. There is a leak coming from the lower part of the engine through the weep hole. Rear main seal was changed and now it leaks more. We cannot locate source of leak. Crank shaft "walk" is suspected. We are in the process or ordering a brand new engine to replace the existing one that has 157K miles on it.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at 2 MPH, the vehicle went into LIMP Mode. The wrench symbol was displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who informed the contact that the failure was due to the throttle body. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline, but no assistance was provided. The contact stated that the failure was related to Customer Satisfaction Program: 13N03. The failure mileage was approximately 113,000.
2015 Ford Edge SEL with Ecoboost 2.0L left us sit while driviing with no warning whatsoever and had to be towed. Our mechanic indicated bottom of engine blew out and needs replaced and has seen this before on a Ford Edge. Vehicle regularly serviced and maintained and is in near perfect condition other than the blew engine.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle independently turned off. The contact heard an abnormal rattling sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated but did not remain illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that sometimes the vehicle failed to start. The contact researched and discovered TSB: 22N12; however, the contact was advised that the failure was unable to be duplicated without a fault code being displayed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 5 MPH, the transmission failed to shift as needed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission and engine needed to be replaced. The transmission was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 152,742.
My car only has 73,367 miles on it and was experiencing a misfire on #4 cylinder. My Ford dealer ran a test on it and said coolant from the 2.0 EcoBoost is leaking into the cylinder and it will burn up the engine which could lock up on me while driving. This is a known defect, but Ford has not done a recall on it. My dealer told me they have heard Ford Co helping some people with the replacement cost, so why won't they help everyone? It is ridiculous to have to get a whole new engine (which is what our dealer is suggesting) when my car has such low mileage. Is there anyone I could reach out to for help getting this defect recalled and fixed? Fortunately, I found about this danger before I drove it too long and the engine froze up on my while driving. We...
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 75 MPH, the vehicle was shuddering, and there was an abnormal sound coming from underneath the hood. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the flex plate was fractured, which caused damages to the flywheel, the torque converter, and the transmission fluid pump. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to Ford Campaign Number: 22N12. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
Traveling 80mph on turnpike and lost all ability to propel vehicle forward due to broken flex plate. Car just stopped driving and steering became an issue as I coasted to the shoulder in the middle of no where miles and miles from a place of business. No warning. The only sign was a loud rattle from the bell housing. Broken flex plate happened 3 times this year 2023. First repair $2400 by AAA mechanic shop, second time (4 months later) covered by parts warranty, 3rd time (2 months later) and Ford wants $4500 and no reimbursement for the first repair.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the vehicle was hesitating at start up, with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where a code reader determined that there was an engine misfire. Upon investigation, the dealer linked the failure to Technical Service Bulletin (19-2346) after it was discovered that coolant had leaked into one of the cylinders. The dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.
I recently learned that there is a coolant leak in my engine in cylinder 2 which has now blown a gasket and causing the engine to fail. I was told the entire engine needs to be replaced. After doing research i learned ford release a service bulletin to address this issue but they do not accept liability for this defect. A quick google search will show many many ford customers are affected by this issue and ford needs to address the concerns and issue a recall and offer to replace the engine.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the water pump replacement. While the vehicle was being serviced, the dealer noticed that the oil pan had melted. The dealer informed the contact that the engine oil pan needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 73,290.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the contact heard an abnormal sound and the vehicle hesitated while accelerating with the accelerator pedal depressed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and determined that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle hesitated, and lost motive power. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that coolant intrusion had caused damage to cylinder #1. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related it to Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N12, but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 139,000.
Faulty water pump leak which is extremely expensive to repair due to manufacturer encasing it inside the timing belt chain. I cannot afford a $5K repair for something that should be extremely more affordable due to Ford’s scheme to acquire more money to repair. Standard mechanics cannot complete tasks due to the severity of the job as well as specialized tools required including lifting the car. These water pump, according to what I was informed was designed to last at least 150K miles.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated at vehicle start-up. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and the mechanic diagnosed a misfire in cylinder #4 due to coolant intrusion into the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the VIN. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 67,500.

Engine has been shaking/misfiring and white smoke coming from Exhaust. Took it to ford and they said it was a coolant intrusion problem on the first cylinder. Learned there is a design flaw in Fords eco boost engines. There is currently a class action lawsuit with Ford. Was told by Ford that a new engine is needed. Approximately $9,000 for repair
engine miss fire code and loss of coolant
The motor is leaking coolant into the cylinders. This affects engine performance and drivability. Coolant has to be added every day. This is a known issue with this motor in other ford vehicles but my vehicle is not included but exhibits the same issues as the other vehicles.
Had to replace the entire engine with only 65,000 miles on it
Our vehicle was making very loud noises and the cooling fan kept running. We took the car to the Ford Dealership as it has some recalls that needed to be fixed and we needed some general maintenance performed. The dealer let us know that the water pump had a crack and needed to be repaired immediately. I looked online and it appears that this is a known issues with Ford vehicles. This was a very costly repair because they had to take out the engine to be able to reach the water pump. We were advised that if this was not repaired the leak could reach the engine and cause total failure. This amounted to $3166.71 for labor and parts. https://topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/lawsuit-news/ford-class-action-lawsuit-and-settlement-news/ford-class-action-alleges-vehicles-contain-defective-water-pumps/
I own a 2015 sport edge that got serviced from the dealership at the beginning of the year 2023 for a rattling noice, loss of power, and a shut off problem while been operated on the highway. Expenses where paid out of pocket twice for the same reasons but now in July 2023 I received a recall letter 22N12 about this problem and after getting another diagnosis from the dealership I've been advised that a new engine is needed and that ford will not cover any expenses even after the recall 22N12 stating that the problems I'm having with my car are the same diagnosis the dealership gave me months ago but now this recall for some reason is not available even thou is was a manufacturer issue. Thanks but this issue put my family at risk multiple times while operating the vehicle after a recall was created and never...
