We were on a Family road trip when issues popped up. Car was engine was buzzing and jumping in gears when started up and running rough. No check engines lights showed up. But we decided to drop it off at a dealership in Grants Pass Oregon to get checkout as we didnt feel safe driving it home. They say it is the transmission going bad. We were hundreds of miles away from home and driving over the cascade pass when this was occurring. 1\3\26

My vehicle’s flex plate is defective and, after having researched this further, it is a known manufacturer’s (Ford) issue. Despite this fact, Ford has conveniently issued a “recall” that eliminates my being able to have their defective part replaced and paid for by them. Straub vs Ford Motor Company, a lawsuit filed in 2021, attests to this fact. My question is how is Ford allowed to get away with this? It shouldn’t matter how long or how many likes the consumer has on the vehicle if the defective part and subsequent need for repair is not due to any negligence on the consumer’s part. I would appreciate any assistance or guidance in how to proceed with this matter. Thank you.
The 2015 Ford Edge and similar models are notorious for flex plate cracking, which Is an absolute hazard to anyone driving it. These things can crack or shatter spontaneously, causing the engine to stop running, even mid-drive. This issue is known, yet the NHTSA hasnt deemed this as a true recall, so Ford isnt covering replacement of this part. PLEASE reconsider recalling this part!

My 2015 Ford Edge was in my garage. I opened the garage door to leave and started the vehicle. It said my hatchback was open . I got out to shut it and left the driver door open. Upon closing the hatch my vehicle began rolling backwards. I was hit in the leg and shoulder while getting out of the way of the car. I also sustained cuts on my hand from the open car door. We have a steep approach to our garage and live on an acreage with timber. The vehicle rolled down the approach to the garage and into and through the timber before it hit a tree big enough to stop it. I received a Customer Satisfaction Program Notice in June 2023 #22N12 regarding the flex plate, transmission fluid pump and torque converter but the 100% coverage ended on 2/28/23. I was told by Ford on 7/3/23 that I should have received the notification in September 2022 but I did not. The representative told me that others have reported same problem in the last week or so. The Complaint number given to me by Ford is CAS43676484. I also submitted another complaint with nhtsa.gov number 11530072. I am unable to pay for this repair due to being on SS Disability since 2017 and also becoming a widow on 2/12/22. Please contact me with any available assistance with these issues which I was not properly notified of and am suffering hardship due to problems known by Ford with my vehicle I purchased in good faith.

While driving at highway speeds, the transmission will make a loud bang and it feels like you ran over an object on the road. The vehicle momentarily (up to 5 seconds) looses all acceleration. This has happened many times, but most concerning is when this happens while entering onto the highway and merging into traffic or passing on a 2 lane road within a passing zone and power is lost and there are oncoming vehicles. This has been reported to the local Ford dealership numerous times, but the same response is received each time, "unable to duplicate transmission problem). The first time this occurred was 02/26/2021 and has continued (25 incidence I have documented) to the most recent time 05/25/23.

While driving a very loud noise was coming from the rear end of SUV
Driving on the interstate at 60 miles an hour the vehicle randomly lost all propulsion and died, which caused an immediate quick slowdown and almost caused a 4 car/semi pileup. Causing me to hit the ditch to avoid being killed by a semi. Vehicle no longer starts. Appears to be a faulty flexplate that caused engine and transmission issues to which Ford has been no help. FORD has only recalled the 2017 edge 2.0 for the flexplate issues despite the same engine being used in the 2015-2018 models. Countless mentions of faulty flex plates in the model year range with the same engine but Ford refuses to address the mass issue.
The flex plate on the vehicle has broken twice within 10000 miles. This is most certainly a manufacturer defect. The vehicle then runs rough, has a loss of power along with transmission shifting issues and can nearly die or not accelerate properly while driving, leading to several near collisions which could result serious injury or death.
The Flex Plate (flywheel) cracked twice now, First time was at 62,000 miles and second time was at 81,000. My safety was at risk the first time due to the fact I had just entered the Interstate and loss all power to the engine as my oil pan and crankshaft seals also gave way and all engine oil was drained out with no engine oil warning what-so-ever. This nearly caused a Semi to rear end me as I limped over to the edge of the road powerless. The wrench appeared earlier that morning denoting a transmission issue for the first time as I was driving to work, then at lunch time it died on the Interstate with no warning indicators at all. The second time it cracked I was also driving 75mph on the Interstate saw the wrench and heard a loud grinding noise and the engine would just rev...
Automobile was making a loud rattling noise. More noticeable at idle. The rattling noise then became loudest with start-up. Temperature gauge increased, but did not get to overheat as the vehicle was discontinued from driving. Towed to Kenny Ross Ford Route 30 @ Blackhill Road Adamsburg, PA 15611. Initial evaluation done by Kenny Ross Ford: Cracked Flexplate. Further evaluation is currently being done for further damage with pictures taken. This problem has been well made to FORD in 2015-2018 FORD EDGE models with technical service bulletins issued. Class action lawsuits are being conducted. There is no reason for a cracked flexplate except a manufacturer error. Communication has been poor with Kenny Ross Ford, as phone calls are not answered or voicemail messages not returned. Thank you.
My panoramic vista sunroof has cracked. The cracks are wavy and everywhere on the rear passenger side. This cracked at 52k miles I also have just replaced the flex plate that cost me $2,275 and 1 month without driving my vehicle. I have 68k miles on this vehicle currently. My transmission fluid was BLACK when they replaced my flexplate as well.
The engine flexplate cracked and disconnected from the torque converter. The vehicle lost the ability to move and left the vehicle stranded in the traffic lanes, nearly causing a major accident.

THE 2015 FORD EDGE STARTED TO NOT BLOW HOT AIR, AND EVENTUALLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY TELL ME IT NEEDED A NEW ENGINE, BUT IT WAS COVERED. THE DEALER EXPLAINED THAT THERE IS A BULLETIN TCB IS # 19-2346. HOWEVER, TODAY I FOUND OUT BY THE SALES PERSON THAT IT NOT COVERED AND I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. THIS ABOUT $7500. I'M READING SEVERAL POST THAT THIS IS A KNOW ISSUE. I DON'T KNOW WHY THERE ISN'T A RECALL OR MORE PRESS ON THIS ISSUE.
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR I STARTED TO NOTICE A RATTLING NOISE FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK, I TOOK THE CAR TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE INDICATED THAT MY CAR NEEDED A NEW WATER PUMP, WHICH HE REPAIRED. THIS DID NOT FIX THE RATTLING NOISE AND HE INFORMED ME THAT MY CAR MOST LIKELY HAD A CRACKED FLEXPLATE. UPON CONTACTING FORD CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE, THEY INDICATED THAT MY CAR WOULD HAVE TO BE CHECKED BY AN AUTHORIZED FORD DEALER TO VERIFY THIS ISSUE. IT WAS VERFIED BY THE DEALER AND THEY HAVE QUOTED ME A REPAIR BILL OF $3,800 AND THAT IS ONLY IF THE ENGINE IS NOT BAD DUE TO THE CRACKED FLEXPLATE ISSUE. FORD HAS NOT OFFERED ANY ASSURANCE THAT THIS WILL NOT RECUR OR ASSISTANCE WITH THE OBVIOUS MANUFACTURERS DEFECT.
