2015 FORD EDGE Engine Problems

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated that when she started the vehicle, she heard an abnormal sound and the check engine light illuminated. The contact was able to drive the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed with coolant intrusion into the cylinders. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be repaired or replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. My car overheated due to a problem with the ECOBOOST engine known by Ford where coolant leaked into the 4th cylinder of my engine. My mechanic used a product called Blue Devil which somewhat improved the leak but has recommended that my engine be replaced however I do not have the resources due to my disability which I am drawing disability benefits from Social Security since 2017 and also being widowed in February 2022.

I received a Customer Satisfaction Program Notice in June 2023 #22N12 regarding the flex plate, transmission fluid pump and torque converter but the 100% coverage ended on 2/28/23. I was told by Ford on 7/3/23 that I should have received the notification in September 2022 but I did not. The representative told me that others have reported same problem in the last week or so. The Complaint number given to me by Ford is CAS43676484. I also submitted another complaint with nhtsa.gov number 11530072. I am unable to pay for this repair due to being on SS Disability since 2017 and also becoming a widow on 2/12/22. Please contact me with any available assistance with these issues which I was not properly notified of and am suffering hardship due to problems known by Ford with my vehicle I purchased in good faith.

After pulling over to visually inspect the engine compartment, she observed black smoke coming from the engine. Upon restarting the vehicle and shifting into drive, the contact stated that the transmission failed to shift out of neutral, and the vehicle rolled backward before going into the intended gear. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the oil pan needed to be resealed and the gaskets needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.

Cracked Flexplate, that keeps happening. Replaced in Sept 2020, before the bulletin from Ford was sent to owners. So the replacement was the same faulty flexplute as stated in the bulletin. Soon March of 2023, when the flexplate cracked again, of course I was denied any assist, because I was out of the warranty by 3 weeks! As well, as out of mileage for a 50% assist.

The oil pan is made of plastic and is known to warp and leak. I have had 3 oil pans on the car since I purchased it February 2018. This poses a risk because oil is spilled onto the ground creating an environmental and slip hazard. The issue has been verified by two different Ford dealers in my area. They both have replaced the oil pan for me and stated that it would probably leak again. Since the last replacement, it has began leaking and I have not bothers to pay for it again because I have been hoping that it would become a recall. It is a known issue among the online forums surrounding this car. No warning lights indicated unless the oil level gets too low.

Water pump has died. Seems like a frequent issue with this engine as per research and seeing many class action lawsuits

The car's ENTIRE ENGINE needed to be replaced due to coolant intrusion in cylinder three - at a cost of $7,000 - through no fault of mine. The car had had absolutely no problems up until this time, and the prescribed regular maintenance was preformed religiously. When "Googling" Ford Edge coolant intrusion, I found that numerous Ford owners with 4-cylinder turbo engines have had to have their entire engines replaced due to this apparently well-know problem. Some with less than 50k miles. I was also told by the dealership service department, that the engines have not been redesigned, so that this new $7k engine, may well develop the same problem! I am forced to pay the $7,000 repair bill, otherwise it would have no trade-in or sale value, and would just be a very large lawn ornament. This is an insanely expensive repair bill for owners, for a design flaw...

Engine check has been on for the last month. Prior to that the light was on with an error code P1450 stating I need to replace the Evan vap canister, which was done yet the light after only a day came back on. Now the engine check light is stating P0456 and anytime I go to fill up the car turns off and needs to be jump started.

Vehicle is at 72,511 miles and suddenly started to misfire in idle. The vehicle is displaying coolant intrusion and I have video proof of coolant dripping into the 4th cylinder while running a pressure test on the coolant system and using a borescope. There is no maintenance that could have been done to prevent this issue as it is a clear design flaw. Based on TSB: 19-2208 the only repair is an engine block replacement. This car is now at risk to overheat, fail on a busy free way, and needs a repair that is too expensive for a customer to take on due to Ford’s poor design. Someone should not have to be seriously injured or be killed in order for this recall to be issued. People deserve better and this is very unethical to not recall the engine. Please require Ford to recall this vehicle’s engine.

The engine runs rough condition, Check Engine Light will illuminate and white exhaust smoke coming out from the tail pipe. It exibits a high consumption of coolant. Possible cause is due to coolant intrusion into the cylinder which triggers a misfire. Driving it into the free is very dangerous if you car will stall in the middle and could cause an accident.

Currently my 2015 Ford Edge 2.0 Eco boost has a blown motor. This is due to an issue that Ford currently knows about. However ford has only done a recall on the 1.5 Eco boost. June 9th 2022 Ford put out to dealerships a Technical Service Bulletin stating there is a known issue with the motor. Coolent can leak into the motors causes them to blow, misfire, and potentially catch on fire. I feel that this is a huge safety issue as well as cost to the consumers. I have attached below the TSB from ford stating they know of the issue and the current recall in the 1.5 eco boost motors.

Water pump failed. This has been confirmed by an independent service center. Found this issues as the car leaked entire reseviour of coolant. Fortunately this was found while the car was parked. However the issue makes the car immediate undriveable to prevent further damage and has to be towed. Were it not found while parked, the engine would have completely shut down in motion. Approximately a $2,500 repair as it currenlty sits.

My car all of a sudden started making a very loud clanging noise on start up. I took to Ford Dealer in Devine. Service said it sounded like a belt, but no one could actually look at it since they were backed up for 3 weeks. I spoke to [XXX] there. My husband took two different mechanics and they both said fly wheel. We told them to fix. When mechanic got in there to change he said that the flywheel was cracked in 4 places. It has almost ready to completely fall apart. He said that was not normal for a flywheel to do that. I had my engine light come on several months ago. Driving down the highway, my car went from 55 to 20 mph and that’s all the faster I could get it to accelerate.Took to a mechanic and hooked it up to his reader and showed it was an engine misfire. Oil and fluids have been changed on time every year. The car has less than 60,000 miles on it. Lost heat and here there was very low coolant. Replenished the coolant and the next day was gone. Took back to mechanic and there was no external leak. Upon further inspections, it was determined that the coolant is leaking into the engine and only solution is a complete engine replacement. The contact was informed that the engine flex plate was fractured and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. TSB 19-2346 coolant intrusion to cylinders. Latent Factory Defect that has no preventative maintainability. Only cure us to replace the whole engine that cost over 8000$ dollars.

I bought this vehicle and within 2 hours engine light came on. It was diagnosed cylinder 1 misfire. After spending $700 later on spark plugs, engine coil pack, oil change, rear differential, and engine oil flush, it was diagnosed with a coolant leak into the engine. Within 3 weeks of buying the vehicle i now have to replace the whole engine. This is costly- and shouldn’t be happening. Ford should be replacing this free of cost with as many issues and people have this problem rather than just submitting a service bulletin.

EcoBoost engine has a design flaw in the engine block and cylinder head that allow coolant to leaks into the cylinder

Internal water pump failer - the water pump on my vehicle failed and began leaking. This is my wife's vehicle and if I had not noticed the issue (which is not easy to notice) then the water pump will leak water into the engine and cause the motor to lock up or seize without warning.

Driving on the interstate at 60 miles an hour the vehicle randomly lost all propulsion and died, which caused an immediate quick slowdown and almost caused a 4 car/semi pileup. Causing me to hit the ditch to avoid being killed by a semi. Vehicle no longer starts. Appears to be a faulty flexplate that caused engine and transmission issues to which Ford has been no help. FORD has only recalled the 2017 edge 2.0 for the flexplate issues despite the same engine being used in the 2015-2018 models. Countless mentions of faulty flex plates in the model year range with the same engine but Ford refuses to address the mass issue.

The flex plate on the vehicle has broken twice within 10000 miles. This is most certainly a manufacturer defect. The vehicle then runs rough, has a loss of power along with transmission shifting issues and can nearly die or not accelerate properly while driving, leading to several near collisions which could result serious injury or death.

I was driving on highway and noticed a bit of rough engine noise, check engine light came on, and gas mileage dropped. I took 2015 edge to my mechanic who stated #2 cylinder was taking on coolant and engine needed to be replaced due to problems. He also stated his mechanic chatroom has numerous comments concerning this same problem with Ford engines. I went on CAR Guru chatroom and on 1st page there were 58 people complaining about the same thing from a year ago. Many found out there is a Ford TSB(Technical Service Bulliten) sent to their techs concerning this common problem causing engine replacements. Engine can blow the head at highway speeds and God knows what can happen. Do we need deaths caused by this before action is taken? PLEASE HELP!

Automobile was making a loud rattling noise. More noticeable at idle. The rattling noise then became loudest with start-up. Temperature gauge increased, but did not get to overheat as the vehicle was discontinued from driving. Towed to Kenny Ross Ford Route 30 @ Blackhill Road Adamsburg, PA 15611. Initial evaluation done by Kenny Ross Ford: Cracked Flexplate. Further evaluation is currently being done for further damage with pictures taken. This problem has been well made to FORD in 2015-2018 FORD EDGE models with technical service bulletins issued. Class action lawsuits are being conducted. There is no reason for a cracked flexplate except a manufacturer error. Communication has been poor with Kenny Ross Ford, as phone calls are not answered or voicemail messages not returned. My panoramic vista sunroof has cracked. The cracks are wavy and everywhere on the rear passenger side. This cracked at 52k miles I also have just replaced the flex plate that cost me $2,275 and 1 month without driving my vehicle. I have 68k miles on this vehicle currently. My transmission fluid was BLACK when they replaced my flexplate as well.

Car purchased as a CPO vehicle with 40,318 miles. Soon after I had regular maintenance service on 3/27/21 at 47,350 miles the car began to drag and the wheel on the driver side had a harder drive. LEAKING ENGINE OIL PAN HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE AND IS SCHEDULED FOR A 3RD REPLACEMENT IN LESS THAN 18 MONTHS, THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR MY HOME AND THE ENVIRONMENT WITH THIS HAZARDOUS LEAKING PROBLEM.

NOTICED SUBSTANCE IN GARAGE COMING FROM TRUCK THAT WAS OILY. BROUGHT TO MY SERVICE CENTER AND IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT THERE IS AN OIL LEAK FROM THE ENGINE OIL PAN RTV SEAL. APPARENTLY THIS IS DUE TO A LACK OF RTV ADHESION. HOW IS THIS NOT A RECALL? THIS IS A MAJOR REPAIR AND EXPENSIVE AT THAT. THE FLEX PLATE/FLYWHEEL HAS NOW FAILED FOR THE 3RD TIME IN LESS THAN 2 YEARS. THIS IS CONFIRMED BY AN AUTHORIZED FORD DEALERSHIP AND STILL HAS NO RECALL ON THIS PART THAT IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE DAMAGED FLEX PLATE HAS CAUSED MY 2015 FORD EDGE TO HAVE A TERRIBLE RATTLING NOISE AND CAUSES CONCERN FOR SAFETY IF THIS PART WHERE TO BREAK APART WHILE DRIVING CAUSING THE WHEELS OR MOTOR TO LOCK UP WHILE IN MOTION. MY 2015 FORD EDGE HAS HAD THE ENGINE LIGHT TURN ON AND OFF SINCE APRIL. AFTER FINDING OUT THAT THERE IS A MISFIRE IN THE 4TH CYLINDER, WE REPLACED THE SPARK PUGS AND THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO GO AWAY. HOWEVER, ABOUT A MONTH LATER, THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS BACK ON AND THE CAR WAS HAVE DIFFICULTY ON COLD START. TOOK IN TO FORD AND WAS TOLD COOLANT IS LEAKING INTO THE 4TH CYLINDER AND THE ONLY FIX WOULD BE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ENGINE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND A CLAIM WAS FILED. SINCE FILING THE CLAIM, NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE VEHICLE HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,984.

FLEXPLATE CRACKED. ONLY 53,000 MILES AND REQUIRES A NEW SHORT BLOCK ENGINE REPLACEMENT. THE FLEXPLATE IS NOTED TO BE A DEFECTIVE PART FROM FORD. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN ON A VEHICLE WITH ONLY 53,000 MILES. THE CRANKSHAFT, PISTONS, FLEXPLATE, TORQUE CONVERTER AND MANY MORE PARTS ALL HAVE TO BE REPLACED ON MY VEHICLE.
