Because of the sticky dash’s glare on the driver side windshield, I could not see the car ahead of me at all. I almost hit a car that was in front of me not because he had braked because we were both still in motion but the glare was directly in my line of vision. I just happened to put my hand up over the glare and saw there was actually a silver car in front of me and I was way to close to it. No accident occurred but it almost did and certainly could have injured me and/or my passengers. This has to be fixed! That scared me to death! I truly had no idea there was a car in front of me as I could NOT see it from the dash’s glare off the windshield.
Vehicles dash board is melting. Produces a high shine effect that reflects sunlight into the front glass, effectively blinding the driver. Toyota has acknowledged this in a “warranty enhancement program” but will no longer repair the dashboard as the recall has “expired”. The warranty program had expired prior to me taking ownership of the vehicle. Engine burns oil due to piston assembly manufacturing errors. Toyota has acknowledged this in T-SB-0158-14 but will no longer repair the engine as the recall has “expired”. The recall had expired prior to me taking ownership of the vehicle.
My dash board is sticky and uncleanable, making it very hard to see out the windshield at all hours day or night, which could potentially cause a crash. I have also noticed tons of people online with the same problem. This needs to be recalled or class action lawsuit.
I recently purchased a used car for my son who is a new driver. He complained to me that there is a bad glare coming from the dashboard that impairs his visibility of the road in front of him. I took the attached picture of the situation and clearly the glare significantly impacts visibility as I can barely distinguish the car just ahead of us. In researching the issue online, I found there was an opportunity for the previous owner to have the dashboard replaced but they did not or were not aware of it and now that timeframe is over. Considering the potential safety issue here, why isn't this a recall item? Is there an opportunity to extend or re-open the replacement window or other action by your agency to address this issue before a serious or even deadly accident were to occur?
The dashboard on the car has melted and caused reflection on the windshield impacting the visibility. I was unable to see the road due to the reflection caused by the melting and sticky dashboard on the windshield. My safety is at risk while driving due to the reflection and glare on the windshield. The smell from melting dashboard is also a concern for myself and family including the infant. The car is available for inspection and the concern can be reproduced.
The dash is very sticky and is putting a glare when driving toward the sun it is so bad you can’t see pedestrians walking on the road.
The 2007 Toyota Camry has a manufacturing defect related to sticky/melting dashboards as a result of heat or humidity. Toyota sent me a warranty notice for an extension for 10 years from the date of first use of the vehicle, which they determined was the date that I purchased the vehicle on July 31, 2007. In 2013, I took the vehicle to a Toyota dealer, however, they refused to replace the dashboard because, in their opinion, it was not sufficiently compromised. However, now, years later, the dashboard has become very sticky and reflective. It produces a glare into the windshield, impairing vision, which is now a safety issue due to the manufacturer defect. Dashboard is too reflective, has melted and is incredibly sticky. This has resulted in a glare off the windshield that shines back into the drivers eyes and compromises visibility.
I'm submitting this, as I've been dismissed by Toyota Corporation with my concerns. I purchased this car from an individual. I did not realize the magnitude of visibility issue with the glare from the dash. I asked at the time about the shiny and sticky dash, and the owner stated that year of Toyota Camry had defective dash that melted, therefor the issue. When I'm driving, the glare causes me not to be able to see clearly. I called Toyota Corporate office and was told it's not a safety issue although I explained in detail about the serious visual problem. Because the previous owner did not take care of the recall on this, I was told it's expired and nothing they will do. The front dash assembly is melted over time and is so bad I cannot see out the front windshield. I told the dealership that I believe this was a recall and they said it was but that the specific job for that expired ? I didn’t know recalls expired. They are willing to fix the current situation with the current system failure of the over heating window switches but a major problem is the visibility up front. I have to wear sun glasses just to see through that horrible glare from the melted dashboard. Also not sure if their is any suspension issues with my 2007 Toyota Camry. The steering wheel shakes some and I’ve purchased new tires wheels and some rotation balance and alignment and no additional work or parts where needed to fix that problem. The alignment did reduce some steering wheel shaking but it’s getting worse again....
Toyota Camry 2007 has a sticky or melting dashboard issue and is impacting visibility when driving in sun. The dashboard shines and reflects on the windshield and impairs visibility. Toyota says their extended warranty to fix this issue is over however the vehicle has been serviced at dealerships multiple times and never was the recall / safety issue was reported to me. I would appreciate if someone can contact Toyota and ask them to fix the issue for vehicles that are still on the roads especially in the south where is blazing hot.
Drivers side sunvisor failed and broke off while driving. Visor fell thru drivers field of vision and distracted driver.
The dashboard melts. I went to toyota representatives many time and they didn’t help. It is really dangerous when the reflection of the melted dashboard blinds the driver.

CAUSED INJURY TO RIGHT TEMPLE GETTING INTO THE CAR. CAUSED FOREHEAD INJURY AT A SUDDEN STOP. DEALT WE REFUSED TO REPLACE OR REPAIR. TOYOTA CLAIMS THE THE RECALL ENDED IN 2018 SO THE PART IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR REPLACEMENT.
THERE WAS A RECALL ON DASHBOARD ON MY VEHICLE AND TOYOTA WON'T REPLACE THE DASH NOW BECAUSE THEY SAY THAT THE REPLACEMENT PERIOD IS OVER NOW HOWEVER I'M MILITARY AND THIS HAPPENED WHEN I WAS DEPLOY. I HAVE TRIED CALLING THEM HOWEVER THEY DON'T HAVE ANY ANSWERS FOR ME. THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP.
THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR WILL NOT STAY UP. THIS PART WAS RECALLED, BUT WHEN I TRIED TO GET IT REPLACED BECAUSE I'D ALREADY PAID TO HAVE THE PASSENGER SIDE REPLACED, SERVICE FOLKS SAID IT WASN'T DEFECTIVE (AND IT WASN'T AT THE TIME). MELTING DASHBOARD, STICKY SHINY AND CREATES GLARE ON WINDSHIELD THAT IS UNSAFE.
THE MELTING DASHBOARD IS CAUSING TREMENDOUS GLARE FROM SUN CAUSING A SAFETY HAZARD. TOYOTA IS AWARE AND HAD A VOLUNTARY RECALL, BUT I DID NOT GET THE LETTER. WHEN I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE RECALL, I THOUGHT DATE OF FIRST USE WAS WHEN I BEGAN DRIVING THE CAR, IT IS NOT. THE SECONDARY COVERAGE FOR 10 YEARS AFTER DATE OF FIRST USE WAS 8/3/17. I CALLED TOYOTA ON 11/17/17 AND THEY SAID TOO LATE. I WENT TO TOYOTA AND CALLED CORPORATE ON 5-30-18, BUT THEY WOULD DO NOTHING. I USE A SUNSHIELD AND CAR IS MOSTLY GARAGED, BUT IT IS THE TEXAS HEAT CAUSING IT, AND I CAN'T STOP IT. I RECENTLY SAW THIS PROBLEM ON THE NEWS WITH NISSAN AND TOYOTA AND HOW DANGEROUS IT IS. THIS IS WHY I AM NOT FILING THIS REPORT.
SUN VISOR (PASSENGER SIDE) HAS ROTATED SLOWLY DOWNWARD BLOCKING MY VIEW OF THE ROAD. APPARENTLY THE SPRING TENSION MECHANISM FAILED CAUSING THE VISOR TO HANG DOWNWARD OBSTRUCTING MY VIEW OF THE ROAD. NOTE: THE SUN VISOR AND SUN VISOR BRACKET WAS PREVIOUSLY INVOLVED IN A TOYOTA WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT NOTICE INVOLVING THIS SAME VEHICLE.
THE SUN VISOR DROPPED, BLINDING MY SIGHT WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND A CLEAR SAFETY ISSUE. TOYOTA HAD PREVIOUSLY ISSUED A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT, BUT HAD SAID AT THE TIME THAT IF THE ISSUE HAS NOT YET APPEARED, WE SHOULD NOT DO ANYTHING. NOW THAT THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PERIOD HAS EXPIRED, THEY ARE NOT PREPARED TO DO ANYTHING. THIS IS A CLEAR SAFETY CONCERN. A RECALL IS WARRANTED. NOT ONLY IS VISIBILITY SEVERELY IMPAIRED WHILE DRIVING, BUT ALSO REMOVING THE VISOR EXPOSES THE DRIVER TO STRONG SUN GLARES THAT MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO DRIVE SAFELY.

THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE DASHBOARD WAS REPLACED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE RECALL DID NOT APPLY TO THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE BECAUSE THE DASHBOARD HAD ALREADY BEEN REPLACED. RECENTLY, THE DASHBOARD BEGAN TO MELT AGAIN AND AFFECTED THE CONTACT'S VISIBILITY WHILE DRIVING. I BOUGHT MY CAR NEW AND I HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE DASHBOARD UNTIL JUNE 2017. I TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP BECUSE I READ ON THE INTERNET THAT THIS WAS A DEFECT WITH THE CAR. I ALSO NEVER REVEIVED A LETTER FROM TOYOTA REGARDING THE DASHBOARD. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO TOYOTA THEY SAID IT WAS STICKY AND THEY ORDERED A NEW DASHBOARD. I TOOK THE CAR IN THEN GOT A PHONECALL FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT TOYOTA WOULD NOT COVER THE COST BECAUSE IT WAS AFTER MAY 2017. THE DASHBOARD APEARS TO BE MELTING.BECAUSE THE DASH IS MELTING IT GIVES OFF A GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD THAT AFFECT VISIBILITY WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, BUT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED AND THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. THE DEALER (JONES JUNCTION TOYOTA, 1508 BEL AIR ROAD #2000, BEL AIR, MD, 410-879-6400) AND THE MANUFACTURER CONFIRMED THAT THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000. **TR CONSUMER STATED SINCE OUR ORGINAL TELEPHONE CALL WITH YOUR OFFICE, WE HAD THE BROKE VISOR REPLACED. WE HAD NO CHOICE SINCE WE COULDN'T SEE PROPERLY WITH THE VISOR IN THE WAY-THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. ATTACHED IS THE RECEIPT. THE DEALER GAVE US A SMALL DISCOUNT FROM THE REGULAR PRICE, BUT WE FEEL THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY TOYOTA AT NO COST TO US. UPDATED 10/30/18*JB
TAKATA RECALL..MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HAS DEVELOPED A SHINY STICKY COAT OVER SEVERAL MONTHS WHICH COVERS THE ENTIRE DASH. THE SHININESS OBSTRUCTS DRIVING VISIBILITY AND I HAVE FOUND NOTHING ON THE MARKET TO CLEAN THIS AREA. THE CAR ORIGINALLY CAME FROM FLORIDA AND WAS GARAGE KEPT WHEN I PURCHASED. SEEMS LIKE SOME SORT OF MANUFACTURER DEFECT.
THE DASHBOARD OF MY CAMRY IS MELTING AND GIVING OFF FUMES THAT WE CAN SMELL AND COULD BE HAZARDOUS TO OUR HEALTH. WE HAVE DEVELOPED A COUGHS SINCE THIS HAPPENED. THE FUMES ARE COATING THE INSIDE OF OUR WINDSHIELD AND MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO SEE. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA USA AND TOYOTA JAPAN AND THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN WE HAD DIFFICULTY SEEING THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD.
ALMOST A COLLISION. I HAVE A DASH THAT IS STICKY AND THE GLARE FROM THE SUN REFLECTING OFF THE STICKY DASH IS A VERY BAD SAFETY HAZARD. ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS I COULD HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT. IT EVEN HAPPENS ACCIDENT NIGHT WHEN THE STREET LIGHTS REFLECT OFF THE DASH. I HAVE HAD THE CAT IN MOTION AND STABLE AND HAVE HAD NEAR ACCIDENTS. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THERE IS ANYTHING I CAN DO ABOUT THIS. IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. BIT THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND FIXED BY THE MAKER. II HAVE A 2007 CAMRY THAT HAS A DEFECTIVE SUN VISOR AS IT NOW HANGS AND OBSTRUCTS MY VISIBILITY. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND I WOULD EXPECT TOYOTA TO HONOR IT AND FIX IT WITHOUT CHARGE TO THE CONSUMER.
TAKATA RECALL STICKY DASHBOARD, CAN'T SEE WITH A BAD GLARE
THE DASHBOARD GLARE AND STICKY FALLING APART CONDITION IS OBVIOUSLY AN ISSUE. WE WERE NEVER INFORMED THAT TOYOTA WAS REPLACING THESE DASHBOARDS. I HAVE A 2007 CAMRY WITH ONLY 80,000 MILES ON IT AND WANT TO HAVE THE DASHBOARD REPLACED. OBVIOUSLY THEY KNOW IT WAS DANGEROUSLY SHINY AND STICKY AS THEY REPLACE THEM FOR 10 YEARS. THE NATIONAL TOYOTA PEOPLE TOLD ME IT WAS TOO LATE FOR THEM TO HELP ME EVEN THOUGH THEY KNOW IT'S AN ISSUE! WHAT IF ANYTHING CAN I DO?
1. BACKGROUND THE VEHICLE DASHBOARD BECAME "STICKY" ON OR ABOUT JUNE 12, 2018. THE ENTIRE DASH IS NOW COVERED WITH A GLUE-LIKE RESIDUE. THE TOYOTA WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM (ZE6) COVERING THIS PROBLEM EXPIRED ON MAY 31, 2017. TOYOTA HAS REFUSED TO REPLACE THE DASH UNDER THE WARRANTY PROGRAM (TOYOTA CASE #'S 1806131876, 1806210691). 2. SAFETY-RELATED ISSUES A. ON WARM, SUNNY DAYS IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT, THE STICKY DASH HAS A VERY BRIGHT SHINE. THE SHINY DASH PROJECTS A GLOSSY, TEXTURED IMAGE OF THE DASH ONTO THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. THIS CAN OCCUR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS EITHER STATIONARY OR MOVING. THIS CONDITION IMPEDES MY FIELD OF VISION AND MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO FOCUS AND CLEARLY SEE THE ROAD AHEAD, OTHER VEHICLES, AND PEDESTRIANS. B. DURING THE SUMMER SEASON, INTERIOR CAR TEMPERATURES CAN REACH BETWEEN 130 AND 170 DEGREES. WHAT TOXINS ARE BEING RELEASED IN THE CAR INTERIOR FROM THE INTERACTION OF EXTREME...
THE DASHBOARD HAS BECOME VERY STICKY AND SHINNY TO THE POINT IT IS REFLECTIVE ON THE WINDSHIELD RIGHT IN YOUR MAIN VIEW AREA.
I HAD THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR REPLACED AT MY OWN EXPENSE BECAUSE ITHE VISOR WAS ROTATING DOWNWARD AND DETACHING FROM THE CEILING BLOCKING MY VISION WHILE DRIVING. A LITTLE WHILE LATER I RECEIVED A "WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT NOTICE" FROM TOYOTA ABOUT THIS VISOR PROBLEM. I STILL HAD THE REPAIR RECEIPT SO I MAILED IT TO TOYOTA AND THEY REIMBURSED ME. NOW IT IS BROKEN AGAIN. IT COMPLETELY FALLS DOWN WITH NO SUPPORT WHAT-SO-EVER AND DETACHES FROM THE CEILING FREQUENTLY. I HAVE A STRING WITH A CLOTHES PIN TO HOLD IT PARTIALLY UP BUT MY VISION IS STILL BLOCKED SOME AND THE CLOTHES PIN DOESN'T HOLD IT VERY LONG. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. I HAVE NOT ABUSED THIS VISOR IN ANYWAY. I STILL HAVE THE PAPERWORK FOR THE REPAIR AND THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT NOTICE LETTER. THERE IS NO NUMBER ON THIS LETTER BUT AT THE BOTTOM IN TINY LETTERS IS ZTT...
THE SUN VISOR AT DRIVER'S SIDE HAS BECOME DETACHED. IT CAN NO LONGER BE HELD IT ITS POSITION. PLEASE SEE PICTURE ATTACHED. TOYOTA HAD ISSUED A RECALL ON 08/01/2012 (DETAILS AVAILABLE AT THIS LINK: HTTP://MEDIA.FIXED-OPS.COM/TOY_CAMPAIGNS/POL12-03.PDF), HOWEVER, AS PER TOYOTA, FREE REPAIR/REPLACEMENT IS ONLY APPLICABLE "7 YEARS FROM THE DATE-OF-FIRST-USE (REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE)". I HAVE SERVICED MY TOYOTA AT TOYOTA DEALERSHIP EVERY 5,000 MILES FROM 2012 TILL DATE, HOWEVER, I WAS NEITHER INFORMED OF THIS RECALL NOR HAD THE ITEM REPLACED BY TOYOTA PROACTIVELY DUE TO RECALL ISSUED. HENCE TOYOTA MUST NOT ASK ME TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR NOW.

TOYOTA WILL NOT REPLACE, SAYS IT IS ,MY FAULT FOR NOT KNOWING AHEAD OF TIME THAT MY DASHBOARD WOULD ONE DAY MELT. CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN GARAGED AND HAS ONLY 55K MILES. SHAME ON TOYOTA.

WHEN I CALLED THEM UP ASKING THEM TO REPLACE THEIR DEFECTIVE DASHBOARD, I WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE WAS "TOO OLD" TO QUALIFY AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY HUNDREDS (PERHAPS THOUSANDS?!) OF DOLLARS OUT OF POCKET TO FIX THEIR OWN SAFETY HAZARD. SAFETY HAZARDS CAUSED BY TOYOTA'S OWN NEGLIGENCE SHOULD NOT BE THE CUSTOMER'S FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX!
