2018 RAM 2500 Forward Collision Avoidance Automatic Emergency Braking Problems

My truck had warning lights come on in December 2023 saying to service the anti-lock braking system and the electronic brakes. I took it to a mechanic and I was told that the part would take at least 45 days to get. Now we're being told it will take 3 months to get because it is impossible to find. After researching this online, it is a nationwide problem for many Dodge Ram owners. These vehicles are out on the road needing this part to keep their brake systems from failing and it is impossible to get.

I keep getting an Electronic Brake Service message and ABS message that randomly starts dinging and popping up on my display that also disables my cruise control. This obviously is a known issue and I would like to know what is being done to correct this. I have read several and seen over 3000 reports of this problem so why is it not being addressed to make our vehicles safer when it is a known fault. We travel with our camper and travel baseball all summer long and this is not acceptable when it comes to my family or the safety of others on the road around me.

ABS is not functional. HCU and ABS Pump are failing and there are constant service lights that come on. Is very dangerous and dealer claims part is back-ordered.....Extremely dangerous to not have proper ABS.....

Warning lights and audible warning for ABS and emergency braking along with traction control have been active for several months. Dealer determined the ABS control module is faulty and needs replaced. Current lead-time for the part is 7 months and cost to replace is $1,200. While the warning is active the cruise control and traction control are de-activated. During a recent rain storm I had to accelerate to avoid a merging vehicle on the freeway and the rear tires broke loose due to the lack of traction control and sent me into an uncontrolled fish-tail across 3 lanes. Fortunately traffic was light and everyone was able to avoid me and I got it under control and stopped just before hitting the freeway barrier wall.

The abs/traction control message goes off intermittently. The truck dings and beeps from the dash with a message that says “service abs”. This is a known issue with this yr/make truck.

HCU hydraulic control unit the ABS light and traction control intermittently coming on and going off this has been an ongoing issue for nearly a year. This has been “replaced” once already. It is now out of warranty no parts available to fix. I pull a camper if this malfunctions while pulling camper this could tragic for my family. I called dodge they provided absolutely help. This is a known issues and Texas and California have class action lawsuits over this part with dodge. This truck only had 49,000 to date. We need help getting this part recalled before someone gets hurt.

I have an intermittent abs warning that turns off abs,traction control, and makes the truck brake worse when it happens. Diagnostics indicate a abs pump failure performed at dealer and an independent shop. Dealership says there’s a hold on the part from Chrysler engineering. I have been informed it’s several of the 2017-2018 2500 rams and makes driving the truck dangerous.

The ABS light continuously comes on and off, especially when hitting a bump or going down a gravel road. Traction control light and ABS light will come on and off which ultimately causes a lack of control when roads are icy or wet. It's especially dangerous while in tow.

The truck began flashing problems with the anit lock brakes and electronic brakes off and on. For over two months now, the service lights stay on along with the traction control warning light. I have called multiply locations trying to locate replacement parts to no avail. The brake pedal sometimes is difficult to push and the antilock brakes failed at a slow speed once. I have reached out for help several times and keep being told that the part is not available and will not be available for months. Last time before today I was told Feb. I called today and was told it wouldn't be until June. This is my only vehicle to get back and forth to work and to get my son to athletic events. I really need this problem corrected.

ABS BELLS GO OFF ALL THE TIME AND SAYS SERVICE ABS , CANT EVEN GET THE PART , NON STOP PROBLEM .

2018 Ram 2500-continued failure of ABS system-ABS warning light and service ABS system error code come constantly. When code is on ABS braking system, cruise control, and 4 wheel drive do not work as well. Truck has been serviced 3 times for this issue and dealer says ABS module needs to be replaced but they do not have a fix or the parts available to fix it at this time from Ram.

This vehicle has faulty or defective ABS braking system. The warning lights and warning chimes have been constantly going off for approx. 2 years. The Dodge/Ram dealerships admits that this is an industry wide defect with 2017 and 2018 Ram 2500 trucks, but say they have no parts to correct the problem. Their suggestion to me was to buy a new truck which is not acceptable or affordable. Ongoing condition. Automatic break system communication along with traction control. Causes service ABS warning light and traction control warning light. Disables cruise control causing instant and unexpected speed loss. Causes loss of traction unexpectedly with failure.

They said abs module is bad and said a new one has been ordered but there is a national back order and no info on timing of receiving the part. Told me to take the truck and drive home. The ABS module failed and was replaced April of 2022 at Terry Hendricks Ram in Archbold Ohio under extended warranty. Now I’m in Titusville Florida for the winter and same issue, ABS lights and service traction control with the constant dinging. Parks Chrysler Ram here has order same part again, they said will take a couple weeks to get a replacement as there’s a waiting list because it’s a on going issue with these trucks. 51,000 miles on it and stated there is a 2 year warranty on this part. This now does not have the antilock working again and could be a safety issue. Should have a recall on this.

While driving the ABS lights flash on and gives warning the ABS system need service. Also traction control light comes on and cruise control stops working. Ram knows there is a problem with 2017 and 2018 2500 and 3500 AB S module.

"Service ABS System" came on dash after normal braking entering a intersection. Truck pulsated and didnt allow brakes to be applied as I entered the intersection. No collision. ABS warning continues to come on

Since incident, the messages continue to appear in my dash. "Service Antilock Brake System" and "Service Electronic Braking System", flashing on and off erratically. I talk directly to Mopar which is overseas, and they tell me it isn't covered because its under the basic warranty which has expired. I asked them to send me the documentation so I can see it in writing and they said they cannot send it or show it to me and that only they can see this information. I am concerned that they are not being honest with the warranty coverage because my five year/100,000 expires in June 2024; and ironically they said the ABS part isn't available until June.

Vehicle's "Service Anti-Lock Brake System" light and warning tone is coming on intermittently. I researched this to a common problem with the Hydraulic Control Unit (failure), which is known by the dealer to be common problem among 2017-2018 Ram trucks. Problem with the original manufacturer of this unit, with no parts available for replacement at this time.

My antilock braking system is defective and is not working. I understand that this is a common problem with my vehicle. It is a safety related issue and should be recalled. The code reader indicates C002001. Ram TSB S2005000004.

I'm just reporting the failure of my HRU as many RAM owners have experienced. The dealer ship replaced the part with the new model. When this fails it happened at highway speeds disabling the cruise control while towing a trailer. Becuase of busy traffic and under heavy weight when the truck fell on its face. I was almost rear-ended due to the sudden loss of speed. Very dangerous when towing.

Error code saying "Service Electronic Braking System" and anti skid brake stop working and crash avoidance braking (rear ending someone) stops working. Dodge is saying no replacement until March 2024. There is a recall to fix 2019 and newer so not sure why 2018 was excluded from this recall to fix a serious safety malfunction in the braking system.

The Hydraulic Control Unit Chrysler part number 68143491AA failed and been replaced multiply times on my vehicle. I have the current failed part available for inspection upon request. This causes the Anti-lock braking system and Traction control system to no longer function limiting function under wet or slippery conditions. This puts the driver and others at risk. The problem has been reproduced by my local dealer twice both with the original part and its' replacements. I am adding the first date below. The second failure was 12,000 miles later after the first was ABS was fixed. The vehicle/component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. There were no Warning lamps/messaged before failure only after. These would be ABS lamp and traction control lamp plus a service ABS warning message.

The ABS/Anti Skid warning lights and notifier goes off every one to three minutes, clears itself then repeats. I travel two hours to work and return to the obsessive malfunction.

ABS/HCU modules have failed. A loss of ABS and braking power have been experienced. When towing, this creates a problem as it happens very suddenly and intermittently, placing myself and others at risk of loss of braking power. Warning lamps indicating ABS failure/electronic braking system service is needed come on only when braking, and is intermittent. There is no indication of a problem until brakes are applied.

Recently the ABS Warning light and Service Electronic Braking System light have been coming on intermittently. When it happens an audible alarm goes off and several functions shut down, like the cruise control. The problem has no rhyme or reason and some days it happens for several hours and some days it never happens. I am concerned that the ABS is not working properly but also concerned that I might be using cruise control on the highway and it shuts down creating a hazard and possibly accident. I have not contacted the dealer but see that it is a common problem with my vehicle on online forums and that there are class action suits for the issue. I have a 2018 Ram 2500 - 6.7 Cummins diesel, The service ABS system and service electronic brake system dash lights come on and go off constantly. first evidence of a problem had to deal with the accelerator pedal A new pedal was installed. .The engine would start but only idle, truck would not move when put into drive .It had to be towed .Then it was something about a door sensor .It was replaced .Then the brake fluid problem started. Lights on won’t go off

My truck is at approximately 35,000 miles. It recently started notifying me that the Anti-Lock Braking System and the Traction Control need to be serviced. While researching, I noticed that there were numerous reports of drivers with the same issue on forums related to Ram trucks. It appears that this is a very common issue that has not been addressed by Ram.

I purchased my vehicle on 6/25/2019. At 951 miles on 5/11/20 my ABS system went out and was replaced under warranty. At 11917 miles on 9/17/21 my ABS system went out again and was replaced under warranty. Now at 37605 miles my truck is intermittently having my ABS system going out which eventually it has gone into total failure. My truck is now out of warranty.
