WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY CAR'S (2015 TESLA MODEL S) EMMC (MULTIMEDIACENTER) FAILED. THE CHIP DIED AND I WAS UNABLE TO USE THE TOUCHSCREEN INCLUDING THE CLIMATE CONTROL. THE CAR STILL WORKED BUT I COULD NOT DEFROST MY WINDOW AND IT WAS HARD TO SEE OUTSIDE. LUCKILY, THERE WERE NO CARS AROUND ME AND I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME. IF THIS FAILED ON A COLDER DAY, THE DEFROST FEATURE COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS. TESLA NOW WANTS ~$1500 TO REPLACE THE ISSUE WHICH USA SAFETY HAZARD.
MAIN TOUCH SCREEN WONT TURN ON... MCU, OR NOW BOTH SCREENS ARE TURNING OFF AND ON AND OFF AND ON, BLINKERS WONT WORK , SPEEDO WONT WORK, RADIO, VENTILATION, BASICALLY EVERYTHING WONT WORK WHILE THIS IS HAPPENING, ( BUT YOU CAN STILL DRIVE. I HAVE A VIDEO BUT NOT THE CORRECT FILE TYPE
MULTIMEDIA CENTER UNIT (MCU) FROZE AND UP ON REBOOT, DIED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET.
MCU1 FAILED IN VEHICLE WITH ~47,000 MILES. THIS FAILURE IMPACTS USE OF ALL FEATURES ON THE TOUCHSCREEN, INCLUDING BACKUP CAMERA, RADIO, A/C, MAPS, ETC. CAR IS STILL OPERATIONAL, BUT TURNS ON SLOWLY.
LOSS OF TURN SIGNALS, REVIEW CAMERA, AND OTHER DRIVER ASSIST AIDS. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. THE CENTER SCREEN \ COMPUTER THAT CONTROLS THESE FUNCTIONS WILL NOT POWER UP.
A WEEK AGO THE TOUCHSCREEN FAILED TO COME ON UPON ENTERING THE CAR WHICH CAUSED A LACK OF MANY NAVIGATION AND COMFORT FEATURES. UPON CALLING FOR SERVICE WAS TOLD THE COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THEY APPEARED TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT WAS WRONG AND OFFERED NO EXPLANATION. MY CAR IS DRIVABLE BUT LACKING CERTAIN SAFETY FEATURES SUCH AS TURN SIGNALS. THERE WAS NO PRIOR WARNING OF PENDING FAILURE OF THE SYSTEM. I HAVE TALKED WITH FELLOW TESLA OWNERS AND THEY ALL HAVE HAD THE SAME FAILURE AT THE SAME TIME MINE OCCURRED. FEEL THIS IS A TESLA PROBLEM THAT SHOULDN'T BE INFLICTED ON MANY OWNERS WITH NO EXPLANATION OFFERED. THE PRICE TO REPLACE WITH "NEW AND IMPROVED" COMPUTER IS $2,500 OR I CAN REPLACE WITH THE SAME MODEL CURRENTLY IN THE VEHICLE FOR A MERE $995. CENTER TOUCHSCREEN WENT BLACK. ALL CONTROLS WEREN'T USABLE OR FUNCTIONING LIKE AC, HEATING, RADIO, GUIDANCE MAPS AND NAVIGATION, CHARGING DOOR PORT WOUND OPEN, CHARGING SLOWS TO TAKE DAYS AND DAYS TO CHARGE THE CAR; LITERALLY MOST FEATURES ON THE CAR. REPAIR COST $2,326.44 ON 4/28/2020 CAR WAS IN OUR GARAGE. STUCK BETWEEN COMPUTER UPDATING. THIS IS A KNOWN TESLA ISSUE THEY HAVE KNOWN FOR A LONG TIME. MEMORY CHIP MCU GETS FILLED WITH INFO AND THE CAR'S COMPUTER STOPS WORKING. ALL EARLY MODEL S AND X 2012 TO 2017 ARE EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE AFTER A FEW YEARS OF OWNERSHIP.
MCU FAILURE. SCHEDULED APPOINTMENTS ARE SEVERAL WEEKS OUT. RECEIVED UPDATE ON 7/20 THAT MCU FAILED AND TESLA WOULD NEED TO ORDER PARTS.
CENTER CONSOLE TOUCHSCREEN STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY. THIS HAPPENED OVERNIGHT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE.
ON 7/16 AFTER MULTIPLE CALLS TO TESLA SUPPORT DUE TO MY SCREEN IN MY 2015 TESLA MODEL S LOADING VERY SLOW AND THE BLINKERS NOT SOUNDING (THEY HAD ME REBOOT MULTIPLE TIMES) I WENT TO CAR AND SCREEN (MCU) WAS COMPLETELY BLACK/DEAD. MY A/C WAS ON ALL THE TIME AND I COULD NOT OPEN CHARGE PORT TO CHARGE. I WAS SCARED I WOULD NOT GET IT INTO SERVICE SO I DROVE IT IN THERE ON 7/18 AND EXPLAINED ALL TO THE SALES REP. HE TOOK CAR AND I GOT A RIDE HOME. TODAY, 7/20 SERVICE CALLED ME AND SAID MCU1 WAS DEAD AND I COULD EITHER PAY 1275 TO REPLACE OR UPGRADE TO MCU2 FOR $2500. I TOLD THEM THAT IT WAS DANGEROUS AS SIGNALS WERE NOT EVEN WORKING AND THIS SHOULD BE COVERED AS IT WAS DANGEROUS. THEY SAID NO AND I TOLD THEM JUST TO DO THE MCU1...

OCCASIONALLY THE MAPS ON THE SCREEN APPEAR TO HAVE A SEIZURE/ SKITTING AND FLICKERING WHICH IS HIGHLY DISTRACTING WHILE DRIVING DUE TO MAPS POPPING IN AND AND OUT (GOING FROM THE MAP TEXTURE TO A WHITE SCREEN AND BACK RAPIDLY). UNABLE TO ACCESS OR USE ANY BUILT IN SYSTEMS. UNABLE TO TURN ON OR OFF SAFETY FEATURES/ AIRBAGS. UNABLE TO MANUALLY CONTROL SUSPENSION HEIGHT TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO UNDERSIDE OF CAR ON ROADS WITH POT HOLES. UNABLE TO ACTIVATE SECURITY FEATURES LIKE PIN NUMBER TO DRIVE. UNABLE TO SYNC OR UNSYNC CLIMATE ZONES IN THE CAR. ESSENTIALLY ANY FUNCTION NORMALLY ACCESSIBLE THROUGH THE TOUCH SCREEN IS UNUSABLE. THE MEDIA CONTROL UNIT HAS GONE OUT ON MY 2015 TESLA, WHICH HAS LED TO THE CAR NOT BEING ABLE TO BE RECHARGED (REFUELED), THE AC BEING UNSUSABLE, AND CAR UNABLE TO BE LOCKED AMONG OTHER ISSUES. WITH TESLAS, THE MEDIA CONTROL UNIT (MCU) IS THE POWERHOUSE OF THE VEHICLE, CONTAINING ALL OF THE SAFETY, A/C, AND DRIVING CONTROLS. WITH THIS BEING OUT OF COMMISION, THERE IS NO TELLING WHAT FEATURES ARE USABLE OR NOT. THE INFORMATION SCREEN FAILED. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY. THERE IS NO CONTROL OF THE CAR'S SYSTEMS LIKE CHARGING BACK-UP CAMERA, HEAT, AC, SUSPENSION,LIGHTS OR ANY OTHER SYSTEMS. I WAS TOLD THAT THE MCU HAD REACHED IT'S "END OF LIFE" AND THE COMPUTER CAN ONLY BE OVER WRITTEN A CERTAIN NUMBER OF TIMES. ONLY TESLA OVER WRITES THE COMPUTER. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AND SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED BY TESLA.
MEDIA CONTROL CENTER TURNS BLACK AND WONT ALLOW ME TO OPERATE THE CAR PROPERLY. VERICHLE HAS DONE THIS ON START UP AND WHILE SITTING AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS/WHILE DRIVING.
MEDIA CONTROL UNIT (MCU) FAILED ON MODEL S 85D WITH < 50K MILES. ONCE THIS HAPPENS YOU CANNOT SIGNAL PROPERLY TO CHANGE LANES (TURN SIGNALING WON'T TURN ON). IN ADDITION, THE AC UNIT WILL NOT BE FUNCTIONAL AND IN THIS CASE WAS CONSTANTLY ON AT THE LOWEST SETTING ALSO DRAINING THE BATTERY PERPETUALLY. THIS WAS EVIDENT IN THE MORNING AFTER CHARGING THE CAR AT REST AND WILL REQUIRE AN IN HOUSE SERVICE VISIT. THE REPAIR FOR THIS IS ESTIMATE FOR OWNERS >2-3K. 2018 MODELS HAVE THIS ISSUE FIXED SUPPOSEDLY, BUT MODELS <2018 DO NOT. TESLA SHOULD IDEALLY UPGRADE ALL MODELS IF THERE IS A SOLUTION.
THE MEDIA CONTROL UNIT IN THE CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH A LOGGING CHIP THAT WILL CAUSE THE UNIT TO FAIL AFTER A SPECIFIC AMOUNT OF REWRITES. THIS IS TYPICAL FOR CARS AT OR NEAR 50,000 MILES. EVEN AFTER BEING REPLACED THE UNIT IS NOT WITHOUT FLAWS. THE SAME ISSUE IS LIKELY TO HAPPEN AGAIN IN THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME AFTERWARDS. WITH THE MCU NOT OPERATIONAL THE CAR TAKES AN EXTENDED AMOUNT OF TIME TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE. ADDITIONALLY YOU LOSE ACCESS TO CLIMATE CONTROL, MUSIC OR MEDIA OF ANY KIND, NO ACCESS TO NAVIGATION, AND MANY OTHER SAFETY AND DRIVING OPTIONS THAT THE CAR IS SUPPOSED TO BE EQUIPPED WITH. THE UNIT IS ALSO SUSCEPTIBLE TO HEAT. MANY OF THESE UNITS HAVE BUBBLES ON THE SCREEN DUE TO USING SUBPAR GLUE THAT ADHERES THE LCD SCREEN TO ITS INTERNAL COMPONENTS. WHEN THE GLUE FAILS THE LIQUID INSIDE DRAINS...
THE MCU1 FAILED (AS PER TESLA DIAGNOSIS) AND THE CAR IS DISABLED AND MUST BE TOWED. CAR CANNOT BE PLACED IN TOW MODE, SYSTEMS WILL NOT REBOOT, CAR DOES NOT POWER UP. VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN GARAGE FROM NIGHT BEFORE WHEN CAR WORKED FINE. NEXT AM CAR WAS DISABLED.
THE MCU (MAIN CONSOLE UNIT) IS BLACK AND WONT TURN ON. TESLA IS STATING THEY WANT ME TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR AS IT ISN'T PART OF THE DRIVETRAIN. I CANNOT CONTROL CERTAIN THINGS LIKE CHARGING AND DRIVING SAFETY FEATURES WITHOUT IT.
MEDIA CONTROL UNIT SCREEN WENT BLANK WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. VEHICLE STILL DRIVES, BUT DRIVER IS UNABLE TO USE NAVIGATION OR MEDIA FUNCTIONS. NO TURN SIGNAL FEEDBACK. NO BACKUP CAMERA. WORSE, UNABLE TO CONTROL AC THAT WAS RUNNING AT THE TIME OF INCIDENT. AIR CONDITIONING STILL RUNS AFTER VEHICLE SUPPOSED TO BE STOPPED, DRAINING BATTERY. VEHICLE HAD TO BE PARKED FOR 48HRS + WITH AC RUNNING CONSTANTLY UNTIL BROUGHT TO DEALERSHIP. SERVICE WANTS $1700 FOR A REPLACEMENT, OR $2250 FOR AN "UPGRADE".

I HAD TO DRIVE IT LIKE. I HAD UPLOADED A PICTURE OF IT IN THE TESLA APP AND I CAN'T RETRIEVE IT.

TESLA MODEL 2015 MODEL S MCU KEEPS FAILING. THE MCU FAILED TWICE IN 1 YEAR. TESLA SERVICE CENTER SCHEDULES AN APPOINTMENT, SIMPLY RESETS THE SYSTEM AND SENDS YOU BACK HOME. BEFORE FAILING , THE SYSTEM SHOWS SIGNS OF SLOWNESS LIKE DELAYED START ( NOTE* CAR CAN STILL DRIVE WITHOUT STARTING AN MCU BUT MULTIPLE THINGS SUCH AS HVAC / BACKUP CAMERA WONT WORK )
THE MCU IN MY CAR WENT OUT. I WAS PARKED WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I WAS A FEW MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY. I PAID $1795.00 TO HAVE IT REPLACED. WHEN MY MCU WENT OUT THIS DISABLED MY BLINKERS. THIS IS THE SAME THING THAT HAPPENED THAT THE NHSTA IS CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING.

THE CAR STARTED TAKING ABOUT 2 TO 3 TIMES LONGER TO BOOT UP AND AFTER A DAY OR TWO, THE SCREEN STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY. AFTER DROPPING OFF AT THE TESLA SERVICE STATION, THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED ME THERE WERE MCU ISSUES WITH THE MODEL S FROM 2016 AND EARLIER DUE TO THE MEMORY CAPACITY OF THE CHIP USED.
THE TESLA MEDIA CONTROL UNIT COMPLETELY FAILED ON 7/5/20 AFTER BEING UNABLE TO TURN BACK ON. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND WAS PARKED ON THE STREET. DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THE MEDIA CONTROL UNIT, THE SYSTEMS SUCH AS THE AIR CONDITIONING, BACKUP CAMERA, CONTROLS, ETC WERE UNABLE TO BE CONTROLLED WHICH POSED A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY HAZARD.
THE CENTER SCREEN (MCU) HAS GLUE RUNNING INSIDE THE SCREEN OF THE ENTIRE UNIT AND THEN LEAKING OUT THE BOTTOM. THE SCREEN NOW ALSO TURN OFF (REBOOTS) AT DIFFERENT TIME WHILE DRIVING THUS INCAPACITATING THE REVIEW CAMERA, AIR CONDITIONING AND OTHER FUNCTIONS FOR UP TO 5-8 MINUTES WHILE SYSTEM REBOOTS. THIS HAPPENS WHILE STATIONARY AND IN MOTION..
MCU DEGRADATION. OBTAINED THE CAR IN 2019 AND BY 2020 THE UNIT HAS DEGRADED TO DANGEROUS STATES. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR IN REVERSE THE CAMERA SPLIT INTO TWO IMAGES INVERTED, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE WHILE BACKING UP. ALSO THE SYSTEM NAVIGATION FAILED DURING ONE OF MY TRIPS CAUSING ME TO SOFT RESET IT AT NIGHT WHILE DRIVING. THE CAR SHUT OFF THE HEADLIGHTS IN A DARK AREA WITH NO STREET LAMPS, FORCING ME TO PULL OVER USING THE HAZARDS TO PARK. THE SYSTEM NEVER SHUT OFF THE HEADLIGHTS OR PREVENTING DRIVABILITY WHEN RESETTING IN THE PAST. MENU FUNCTIONS HAVE STARTED TO SHOW UP CRYPTIC AND UNUSEABLE FORCING MORE COMMON RESTARTS WHILE DRIVING. MULTIPLE TRIPS TO TESLA SERVICE CENTERS WILL NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THE STAFF IGNORE IT AND SAY ITS NORMAL. THEY KEEP SAYING THE CACHE IS FULL AND ONLY THEY CAN FULLY CLEAR THE CACHE. IN ALL CASES...
ON APRIL 16, 2019, I ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE AND PULL OUT IN REVERSE FROM MY GARAGE, HOWEVER, THE TOUCH SCREEN DISPLAY UNIT (MCU) WOULD NOT TURN ON RESULTING IN AN INABILITY TO VIEW THE REAR VIEW CAMERA. IT IS VERY RISKY TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE WITHOUT THE MCU. IT IS ALSO WHAT DISPLAYS IF THERE ARE FAILURES IN OTHER PARTS OF THE VEHICLE. TESLA SERVICE TOWED IT TO THEIR FACILITY AND THEY ULTIMATELY CONCLUDED THAT THE UNIT WOULD STILL POWER ON BUT IT ULTIMATELY WAS STUCK IN A BOOT LOOP. EVEN THOUGH I HAD THE VEHICLE FOR LESS THAN 4 YEARS, IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BECAUSE OF MILEAGE OVERAGE, RATHER THAN TIME. TESLA REFUSED TO COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY AND FORCED ME TO PAY FOR IT OUT OF POCKET FOR OVER $2500. THIS FAILURE IS WIDELY KNOWN IN THE TESLA COMMUNITY AND BY TESLA ITSELF AS SERVICE...

WELL DOCMENTED FAILURE OF A MEMORY CHIP THAT HAS BEEN DOCUTETED TO FAIL AFTER A CERTIN AMOUNT OF READ/WRITE CYCLES, TESLA HAS BEEN WELL AWARE OF THIS FAULT FOR YEARS AND HAS DONE NOTHING TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES LEAVING OWNERS SOMETIME STRANDED OR REDUCLED VEHILCE FUNCTIONALTY. TESLAS RESPNOSE HAS BEEN TO REPLACE THE FAULTY SYSTEM WITH A REFURBISH UNIT THAT WILL HAVE THE SAME ISSUE IN THE FUTIURE AND CHARGING THE CUSTOMER BETWEEN 1500-2000 TO REPLACE.
MY MEDIA CONTROL UNIT (IPAD SCREEN-LIKE) CRASHES, IS INCREDIBLY SLOW AND DOESN'T LOAD INTERNET FEATURE THAT WAS PROMISED. TOOK TO TESLA MULTIPLE TIMES AND THEY SAID IT'S NORMAL AND THEIR FUTURE UPDATES WILL ADDRESS THIS. THIS WAS SAID LAST YEAR, AND MY INTERNET STILL DOESN'T WORK (EVEN UNDER STRONG WIFI). THE MCU ON MY 2015 TESLA IS STARTING TO SHOW EARLY SIGNS OF FAILURE. IT SOMETIMES REBOOTS AND TAKES SEVERAL MINUTES TO COME BACK, THE BLUETOOTH CONNECTION TO MY PHONE FAILS OFTEN, AND THE SCREEN IS STARTING TO FLICKER. THIS MCU FAILURE IS DUE TO A MANUFACTURING ERROR CAUSING MULTIPLE REPLACEMENTS. AS THIS PROBLEM GETS WORSE IT WILL RENDER THE CAR INOPERABLE AS THE ENTIRE SYSTEM WILL FAIL.
MY TOUCHSCREEN HAS FAILED COMPLETELY AND I AM UNABLE TO USE MY BLINKERS OR CONTROL MY LIGHTS THIS IS A BIG SAFETY CONCERN AND TESLA HAS STATED THAT IT'S NORMAL FOR COMPUTER SYSTEMS TO FAIL.
THE CENTER CONSOLE DISPLAY OF MY TESLA MODEL S HAS ABRUPTLY STOPPED WORKING. I CAN NO LONGER ACCESS THE MAJORITY OF THE FEATURES OF MY VEHICLE, SUCH AS TURNING ON A/C, ACCESSING GPS, CONTROLLING THE SUNROOF, ADJUSTING VEHICLE SETTINGS, ADJUSTING MY SIDE MIRRORS, DEFOGGING THE WINDSHIELD, ACCESSING THE REARVIEW CAMERA, AND ANY OTHER SETTING THAT IS CONTROLLED BY THE CENTER DISPLAY. THIS HAS MADE DRIVING THE CAR NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE. BECAUSE OF THE LOW VISIBILITY OF THE REARVIEW WINDOW, I HEAVILY RELY UPON THE REARVIEW CAMERA. SINCE CENTER CONSOLE DISPLAY WAS OFF AND HENCE NO REARVIEW CAMERA, I ENDED UP DAMAGING MY BUMPER INTO A LOW-PROFILE OBJECT THAT OTHERWISE WOULD HAVE BEEN VISIBLE HAD THE CAMERA BEEN ENABLED. FIRST IT STARTED WITH THE BACK UP CAMERA NOT DISPLAYING WHEN I WOULD PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE, SO I HAD TO REBOOT THE SYSTEM.
