PRIMARY TOUCHSCREEN FAILURE (MCU). THE CAR WAS STATIONARY PARKED IN GARAGE. THE PRIMARY TOUCHSCREEN FAILED AND WOULD NOT START. AIR CONDITIONING, TURN SIGNALS, AND BACKUP CAMERA STOPPED WORKING, ALONG WITH ALL OTHER SETTINGS BECAUSE NON-FUNCTIONAL. CAR IS 5 YEARS OLD AND 45,000 MILES. THE MCU TOUCHSCREEN HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TR
MY MCU OR MAIN TOUCH SCREEN HAS FAILED. I NO LONGER HAVE CONTROL OF NAVIGATION, MUSIC, HVAC CONTROLS, BACK UP CAMERA, TURN SIGNALS, AUTOPILOT, ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, HEADLIGHT CONTROLS, SUNROOF CONTROLS, OR ANY FUNCTION BESIDES DRIVING, STEERING, AND BRAKING, THE CAR WAS AT MY HOME WHEN IT WAS RECEIVING AN OVER THE AIR UPDATE. THE CAR THEN NOTIFIED ME THAT THE DOWNLOAD HAD FAILED. I WENT OUT TO THE CAR TO FIND THE SCREEN COMPLETELY BLACK. TRYING TO RESET THE SCREEN DID NOT WORK AND TESLA DIAGNOSIS LED ME TO BELIEVE THAT THE MCU NO LONGER WORKS. DOING MY OWN RESEARCH I HAD MY EMMC CHIP LOOKED AT AND FOUND THE FILES WERE CORRUPT AND THE CHIP WAS 90% FULL. TESLA WILL NOT REPLACE JUST THIS CHIP AND ONLY THE MCU IN FULL. I HAVE NOT DRIVEN MY CAR SINCE THIS ISSUE. *LN*JB *TR
THE TOUCHSCREEN MEDIA CONTROL UNIT HAS COMPLETELY FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. TESLA SAID IT WAS THE MCU AND THAT I HAD TO DRIVE IT TO THE SARASOTA SERVICE CENTER FOR REPAIRS WHICH IS 2 HOURS DRIVE FROM MY HOME. MCU FAILURE WITH LESS THAN 3,400 MILES ON CAR. TESLA CLAIMED IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE CAR CAN NOT CHARGE OR DO ANYTHING WITHOUT MCU. NO WINDOWS, NO CLIMATE, NO CHARGING, ETC. MY MCU FAILED IN JANUARY 2020 AND I WAS CHARGED $1,429.73 FOR REPLACEMENT. I FOUND A NEWS ARTICLE TODAY THAT NHTSA IS INVESTIGATING THIS ISSUE, I WANTED TO ADD MY COMPLAINT AS WELL. APPROXIMATELY 5 YEARS AFTER PURCHASING MY TESLA MODEL S, THE MEDIA CONTROL UNIT FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET (DOING A REBOOT DUE TO SOME SYSTEM FAILURES). MUCH OF THE FUNCTIONALITY OF THE CAR BECAME INOPERABLE BECAUSE OF THE FAILURE, INCLUDING CLIMATE CONTROL, NAVIGATION, MUSIC AND MORE. A WEEK LATER TESLA'S MOBILE TECHNICIAN DID A HARD REBOOT, WHICH THEN ELIMINATED THE ABILITY OF THE CAR TO CHARGE (MAKING IT EFFECTIVELY INOPERABLE). WHEN I FINALLY GOT AN IN-SHOP APPOINTMENT, A WEEK LATER, I HAD TO PAY TO REPLACE THE MCU, AS MY WARRANTY PERIOD WAS OVER. EVEN NOW, THERE ARE CONTINUING ISSUES WITH THE VOICE RECOGNITION SYSTEM. *TR
THE SCREEN ON THE CAR WENT BLANK AS THE MCU FAILED. WHILE THE CAR WORKED THE AUDIO, AUTOPILOT, RADIO, GPS, NAVIGATION, TURN SIGNALS STOPPED WORKING. SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. I HAD ALMOST COMPLETED A U TURN (BUT NOT COMPLETELY) TO SLOWLY PULL INTO A PARKING SPOT PARALLEL TO THE SIDEWALK WHEN THE CAR ALL OF A SUDDEN LOUNGED FORWARD (SEE SKID MARKS). THE COLLISION DEFINITELY FELT LIKE THERE'S A MAJOR FAULT WITH THE CAR'S COMPUTER SYSTEM - INSTRUCTING IT TO LURCH FORWARD AT RAPID SPEED AND NOT ABLE TO AUTOSTOP WITH AN OBJECT (BRICK WALL) IN FRONT OF IT. I WAS AT A RESIDENTIAL AREA WITHIN A GATED COMMUNITY. WHEN CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL CAME, THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FILE A REPORT WITHIN PRIVATE PROPERTY. *TR
MY CAR SUDDENLY LOST APPROXIMATELY 25 MILES OF BATTERY RANGE OVERNIGHT AFTER AN OVER THE AIR UPDATE BY TESLA. THE CAR ALSO BEGAN CHARGING SLOWER AFTER THE UPDATE. I BELIEVE THE UPDATE HAS DECREASED THE BATTERY LIFE OF MY CAR AND CAPPED IT TO PREVENT THE CHANCE OF THE CAR CATCHING ON FIRE SINCE THAT HAS ALREADY HAPPENED TO SEVERAL TESLA MODEL S VEHICLES. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT A FAULTY BATTERY IS STILL IN THE CARS
2015 MODEL S 85D WAS REVERSED ONTO DRIVEWAY THEN PLACED IN PARK AND DOORS WERE CLOSED AND LOCKED. A FEW MOMENTS LATER THE VEHICLE STARTED ACCELERATING FORWARD TOWARDS THE STREET AND CRASHED INTO A PARKED CAR. FRONT WHEELS WERE RECEIVING POWER WHILE REAR WHEELS WHERE LOCKED AND DRAGGING RATHER THAN WHEELS SPINNING. I REVERSED VEHICLE BACK ONTO DRIVEWAY AND IT HAPPENED ANOTHER 2 TIMES AFTER FIRST INCIDENT WITHIN A 30 MINTUE TIME SPAN.
TRY TO BACK UP & CAR WILL AUTOMATICALLY GO INTO PARK. HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY -~20 TIMES OVER LAST ? 45 DAYS, DID NOT RAISE MY BODY TO LOOK OVER SHOULDER. LAST FRIDAY, I WAS ON THE ON RAMP OF A INTERSTATE (I-5), & THE CAR WENT FROM DRIVE TO PARK. FIRST & ONLY TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED.
THE TRUNK SENSOR MALFUNCTIONED RESULTING IN THE TRUNK REGISTERING AS OPEN BUT BEING CLOSED. AS THERE ARE 3RD ROW SEATS IN THE TRUNK THIS MAKES IT PASSENGER SPACE AND THE EMERGENCY TRUNCK OPEN DID NOT WORK, MANUAL OPEN DID NOT WORK, KEY FOB OPEN DID NOT WORK RESULTING IN THE TRUNK PASSENGER COMPARTMENT BEING LOCKED SHUT WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR CHILDREN IN IT WITH NO WAY TO GET THEM OUT OTHER THAN TO SMASH THE REAR WINDOW. ON MY NEXT CHARGE TO 80%, MY MILEAGE CAPACITY WAS DRASTICALLY REDUCED FROM 199 MILES TO 167 MILES FOR A LOSS OF OVER 30+ MILES FOR NO KNOWN REASON. I DISCUSSED THIS WITH A COWORKER WHO HAS A SIMILAR EARLY 2016 MODEL S 70D WHO EXPERIENCED THE SAME SAME LOSS OF RANGE. MY RESEARCH HAS LEAD ME TO UNDERSTAND TESLA TOOK ACTION TO DOWNGRADE HORSEPOWER AND RANGE ALONG WITH ALL OTHER ASPECTS OF PERFORMANCE THROUGH A TOTAL VOLTAGE CAP AFTER CLAIMING TO BE RELEASING A FIRE-SAFETY UPDATE, BUT OFFICIALLY NO SAFETY UPDATE WAS RELEASED. THIS CHANGE HAPPENED WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED IN MY GARAGE AND STATIONARY.

SHORTLY AFTER A SOFTWARE UPDATE IN JUNE, 2019 I NOTICED THAT MY CHARGE CAPACITY HAD DIMINISHED SIGNIFICANTLY (APPROXIMATELY 30 MILES OR 15%). I RAISED CONCERNS ABOUT MY BATTERY KNOWING THAT TESLA REPRESENTS AN UNLIMITED MILE 8 YEAR WARRANTY ON THE BATTERY. MY BATTERY WAS TESTED REMOTELY AND I WAS ASSURED IT WAS NOT A BATTERY ISSUE. SHORTLY THEREAFTER I BECAME AWARE THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND ACTUALLY THE SUBJECT OF CLASS ACTION LITIGATION. I TRIED CONTACTING TESLA FOR SERVICE BUT WAS UNABLE TO GET THROUGH TO THEM. IT TOOK OVER 3 VERY FRUSTRATING WEEKS FOR ME TO FINALLY GET THROUGH TO SCHEDULE A SERVICE APPOINTMENT. MY SERVICE TECHNICIAN REPLACED SOME PARTS THAT HE BELIEVED WOULD REMEDY THE PROBLEM HOWEVER WHEN HE TOOK THE CAR TO THE TESLA SUPERCHARGE STATION THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED. HE REACHED OUT TO THE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT AT TESLA AND WAS INFORMED THAT MY CARS CHARGING CAPACITY HAD BEEN LIMITED AND RESTRICTED BY TESLA. A MALFUNCTION CAUSED THE SUDDEN DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIRBAGS AND SUBSEQUENT UNINTENTIONAL UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO JUMP A CEMENT BLOCK AND VIOLENTLY SMASH INTO A POLE WHILE I WAS SLOWLY PULLING INTO A PARKING STALL AT A GROCERY STORE.
WAS USING THE AUTO-SUMMON FEATURE TO GET THE CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE AND IT CRASHED ON THE GARAGE WALLS.
REPORTEDLY A 2015 TESLA MODEL S ON "AUTOPILOT" CRASHED INTO A LAGUNA BEACH POLICE PATROL VEHICLE ON TUESDAY ABOUT 11AM 5-29-18 @ 20652 LAGUNA CANYON ROAD, LAGUNA BEACH, CALIFORNIA. THE DRIVER OF THE TESLA WAS INJURED. THE DRIVER IS PROBABLY AT FAULT FOR INATTENTIVE DRIVING, HOWEVER THE HYPE FROM TESLA, ELON MUSK AND THE CULT FOLLOWING HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO TESLA DRIVERS DRIVING RECKLESSLY BY OVERHYPING THE SAFETY AND AUTONOMY OF TESLA VEHICLES. IT SEEMS THE VEHICLE LEFT THE DRIVING LANE AND ENTERED THE PARKING LANE AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WHILE PULLING INTO A PERPENDICULAR PARKING SPOT IN A PARKING GARAGE, AT ~4-5 FEET FROM A WALL, THE CAR EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION, SLAMMING INTO THE WALL, RESULTING IN MODERATE BODY DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND DEPLOYING THE DRIVER-SIDE AIRBAGS. DOOR HANDLE BECAME INOPERATIVE WHILE CAR WAS STATIONARY, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO ENTER CAR VIA DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. HANDLE IS NORMALLY FLUSH WITH BODY. WHEN CAR DETECTS FOB PRESENCE, OR FOB BUTTON IS PRESSED, DOOR HANDLE IS SUPPOSED TO EXTEND TO PERMIT OPENING OF DOOR. CONTACTED SERVICE AND WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. DRIVING WEST ON HAMPDEN AVE TOWARDS INTERSECTION AT TAMARAC ST. GOING THE SPEED LIMIT, & RELEASED THE ACCELERATOR SO THAT "ENGINE BRAKING" WOULD SLOW THE CAR. BUT I WAS SLOWING DOWN FASTER THAN NECESSARY WITH ~100 YARDS REMAINING TO REACH THE INTERSECTION. HERE IS A TESLA IN THE SALVAGE YARD. THE ONLINE OWNER'S MANUAL STATES THERE SHOULD BE 144MM OR 5.65" OF GROUND CLEARANCE ON MY 90D. I HAVE LESS THAN 5". I HAVE BROUGHT THIS TO TESLA'S ATTENTION AND THEY STATE THAT THERE IS A RANGE THAT THEY CAN HAVE. I HAVE BELOW THE MANUAL CLEARANCE. THIS LOWER CLEARANCE HAS MADE ME BOTTOM OUT AND TO TAKE SPEED BUMP/DITCHES SLOWER MAKING CARS ALMOST HIT ME FROM BEHIND. I'M NOT SURE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BUT IT DOESN'T MEET THEIR OWN SPECIFICATIONS. IT IS VERY UNNERVING TO WORRY ABOUT IMPEDING TRAFFIC OR DAMAGING MY VEHICLE.
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR AND ACCELERATING TO HIGHWAY SPEED, WITH AUTOPILOT/TACC ENABLED IT WILL BRAKE HARD FROM HIGHWAY SPEEDS TO AND INCORRECT "KNOWN" 45 MPH (+5 MPH AUTO PILOT THRESHOLD). I USE "KNOWN" AS IT APPEARS TO BE GPS DATA THAT PRESENTS THE MPH. THE ACTUAL SPEED LIMIT IS 65 MPH. DRIVERS WILL NOTICE THE CARS DASH BOARD WILL DISPLAY THE INCORRECT MPH AS WELL. RESULT IS THAT WHEN GETTING ON TO HIGHWAY, IT SLOWS YOU BACK DOWN TO 45-50 MPH. IF ACCELERATING ON AN ON RAMP, WITH CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVE IT WILL SLOW THE VEHICLE. MERGING INTO TRAFFIC ALREADY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND HAVING THE MODEL S CRUISE CONTROL/ AUTOPILOT SLOWING DOWN WILL CAUSE REAR END ACCIDENTS INTO THE MODEL S. THE CAR WAS BEING SLOWLY PULLED INTO A PARKING SPACE AT A BANK WHEN IT EXPECTANTLY ACCELERATED.
