2015 JEEP CHEROKEE Electrical System Problems

Upon placing vehicle into park, the parking brake independently engaged and would not release. Car was not able to move. Brake calipers were locked into position. Manufacturer TSB: 08-060-16 Based on repair invoices, it appears the electronic parking brake module is damaged by water leaking into the compartment. In case of inadvertent activation, the EPB causes a stalling condition, bringing the subject vehicles to a stop. TSB 10191415 followed in May 2016, instructing dealers on replacing the subject module and inspecting the electrical connector for corrosion. The technical service bulletin states “the electronic parking brake module is located in the back left side of the cargo area interior, near the spare tire.” The first model year of the KL-generation Cherokee has accumulated 2,187 complaints on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website. 11 of those complaints are filed under parking brake issues

I am not completely certain which of the above selected items is the cause of my vehicle malady, though I have been instructed by a mechanic that it could be the drive train maybe (I could be misremembering). At any rate, the vehicle stalls at random intervals, without advance notification of a problem. No warning light or sound is produced until the moment it stalls at which time a warning sound without accompanying light is produced. The vehicle will stall regardless of whether or not it has been pre-heated, despite the season/weather, and has stalled while I was in the midst of turning left against oncoming traffic with my SON in the car! wheels locked up, unable to stop car. wheels were not turning during accelerator and car would not come to a stop when braking as tires were just sliding and skidding on road. could not change gears

My trunk flooded with water, resulting in the failure of the parking brake permanently in an engaged position. This happened fortunately after my car was parked, but could have happened while I was driving.

The parking brake module failed. It caused the vehicle to violently be slammed into a stop by the electronic parking brakes engaging on their own. This primarily happened anytime the vehicle was put into park, or came to a complete stop. The parking brake is then unable to be released. When revving the engine in drive or reverse the parking brake stays engaged. Randomly did it only work properly and disengage, leading to the car being inoperable due to the possibility of being stuck in traffic or on a major roadway should the car get stuck with the parking brake engaged. This could also lead to a stall of the engine as well as that dangerous situation. The safety of myself and others are at risk with this issue. I open the car with key fob and vehicle dash lights up when I go to start vehicle everything goes black and vehicle will not start. The battery in vehicle has been checked and in good condition I replaced key fob battery still does not work. This has happened a couple times and then vehicle will magically start. I am generally stuck for a while before we can get it going . I have tried putting fob against starter button to start doesn’t work, I have pressed brake hard, still noting leaving me stranded at night

I want to put another data on what many others have said. There is an issue more with Jeep Cherokee's PTUs than what is currently listed on the recall. My Jeep Cherokee 2015, despite not being on the PTU recall, also had sudden power loss issues. I paid for the repair out of pocket in 2021. New battery too. Less than a year later (02/2022), I am getting service 4WD and 4WD not available intermittently. I'm afraid the new PTU might be faulty too. I’m following up from my previous complaint #11446148. They replaced body control module, radio frequency hub, ignition switch, key fob to ignition switch to resolve a no crank, no power issue. While at the dealership, we were told the Powertrain Control module needed a reprogram per recall W20. Now the dealership is saying the traction and ABS lights are on and the ABS module won’t recognize the VIN number. This is a 2015 jeep. There is an obvious manufacturers flaw in their design configuration for all of these computers modules to fail. The pcm reprogram recall seems to have created addition electronic errors that now are estimated at over 3000$ in repairs. Please investigate these issues. My car has been in the shop since October 19, 2021 which is almost 4 months. These repairs are extreme for a 6 year old vehicle.

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that her vehicle showed no failures until she was asked to take the vehicle to the dealer to be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V343000 (Power Train). Service shifter light is on all the time. Not sure why or what is happening. There is a notification on the dash that just says "service shifter' and all the lights are red by the gear shifter.

Loss of power to all things electrical 10/10/2022. My son was left stranded in Memphis as a result, leaving him in a dangerous situation. The car was towed to a jeep/Chrysler dealership in collierville, TN on 10/19/2021. I’ve attached the invoices below and of the parts they’ve replaced. Before beginning work the dealership was unable to release the emergency brake x 2 days. It’s is January 4, 2022 & the car is still at the dealership still with no power. Their next suggested part is an ignition switch that is on back order. I’ve read several other reports concerning power loss abruptly in the jeep 2015 model. There were no warning lamps or symptoms of failure preceding the incident. Please evaluate the volume of complaints associated with this particular problem as I’ve read 100s of similar issue with this model vehicle.

Looked into the spare tire compartment and found standing water in the compartment and in one of the side trays. No evidence of water anywhere else. Tire dealer took the compartment a part and could not find evidence of leaking anywhere else. Ran water to make sure the sunroof drains were not clogged. They were not. Checked all window sills and hatch sill, no leaks. Tech looked for any recall. There is a recall R67 for my year of Jeep and NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V826. Called 2 dealers and said there was no recall for my Jeep. The information on the recall is exactly how my leak is happening. Transmission control module and speed control I couldn't exsellerate while driving in traffic and my car would lock up in neutral and wouldn't allow me to turn off the engine and it was flashing all sorts of problems at once, it would also jerk when I shifted the mechanic first told me I needed a battery and then said I needed a flash update and when none of those problems resulted in fixing my car he then said my Transmission control module was bad so now my car is inoperable so I took it to the dealership and I'm waiting for results. My liftgate tries to operate while I am driving. I have taken my jeep in to the dealer 3 times for the same issue. They have thrown parts at it but never fixed it. I believe this is an electrical problem because it only happens when the weather is hot and inside vehicle temp is hot. The lift gate will operate without expectation or try to, even when I am driving. When I am driving, A warning will show on the dash "shift vehicle to park to operate liftgate" while I am driving. If the vehicle has been parked for a while and the internal temperature is hot,, I can touch the sensor door handle to unlock the door and the lift gate will operate on its own and open. 1. My car has fully turned off while driving, on two separate occasions. The first time was a slow crawl and it shut off. The second time I was going roughly 30mph and it shut off. Both times, it shut off (including the instrument cluster, entertainment console, lights, etc.) after a couple of seconds everything came back on, but I had to put it into drive and recycle the key to get the engine to start back up. 2. 2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited. While driving the vehicle, lost power abruptly and without warning in traffic on 5 occasions between May 2021 and July. Car towed and taken to dealership each time with repair notations indicating short in PDC causing fuse for ignition coils to blow. That was replaced. An additional note when the car failed again indicated an internal short in PCM which was replaced. I've spent thousands of dollars, not to mention the safety issue of stalling in traffic. The last time, I was on a very busy freeway and didn't have enough power to fully move to the shoulder. I counted about 3 near misses with cars about to hit me. I don't have every *Invoice* as they didn't return them all to me but will upload what I do have. This is a serious issue and I'm not getting any resolution with the dealership.

Service Shifter lights up on the instrument panel as well as the check engine also stop/start not ready. 4x4 not available exhilarates and UN exhilarates all by its own. Shifts hard and jumps hard when I take off at a stop light don't wanna come out of park unless I take my finger and flip up a plastic thing down inside the shifting housing. while I was driving a was coming to a complete stop and the jeep stalled on me and said a quick message on the dash about shifting i tried to start it again and it took a second to kick over. Its done this twice today and has been doing it at least once a day. This is a serious problem especially if I happen to be on the highway or going threw an intersection.

When I go to pull out of a street The car just stop. I have my feet on the gas but it will not move, once I am in the street and also while in traffic it will not move even when foot on the gas I tried to explain to them at the car dealer where I took it. But I was charged 600 bucks for something else I guess this car is dangerous very dangerous I done almost had so many near missed accidents with this vehicle.

IT MAKES A LOUD CLANG SOUND WHEN SHIFTING GEARS AND AUTOMATICALLY SHUTS DOWN AFTER. THE PARKING BRAKE WOULDN'T DISENGAGE, A MESSAGE SAYING "SERVICE PARKING BRAKE" APPEARS ON SCREEN. WHEN ACCELERATING THE CAR DOES NOT RESPOND NORMALLY. THERE WAS ANOTHER MESSAGE SHOWING "TRANMISSION SERVICE" WHEN THE CAR WAS ON PARK AND THE CAR UNEXPECTEDLY SHIFT TO NEUTRAL AND MADE A LOUD ROAR ROUND JERKING FORWARD.

IN THE LAST 3 WEEKS I START MY 2015 JEEP CHEROKEE AS USUAL, SHORTLY AFTER DRIVING WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP THE BATTERY LIGHT COMES ON AND THE DASH SAYS CANNOT SWITCH GEARS UNLESS IN PARK. WOULD NOT ENTER LOW, DISPLAYING "4WD NOT AVAILABLE'. REPEATED ATTEMPTS WERE UNSUCCESSFUL, WITH ADDITIONAL ERRORS DISPLAYING: "SERVICE ENGINE', "SERVICE SHIFTER', "SERVICE P BRAKE". FOUR TIMES WITHIN THE PAST TWO WEEKS THE VEHICLE HAS SHUT OFF. TWICE WHILE TURNING INTO A BUSY INTERSECTION AND TWICE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE INSTANTLY STALLS AND ENTIRE DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS COME ON. CAR TAKES 5-20 MIN TO RESTART. THERE'S NO BURNING SMELL OR SPUTTERING/STALLING WHEN CAR SHUTS OFF. IT IS DANGEROUS AND ALMOST WAS INVOLVED IN ACCIDENTS WHEN STALLING TURNING INTO A BUSY INTERSECTION.

WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE A ATOP SIGN WITH NO POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES. BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP THE CAR STARTED UP AGAIN ONCE I SAT FOR A MIN OR TWO. I DIDN'T GET 1 MILE FROM THAT STOP SIGN WHEN THE CAR DIED AGAIN. SAME WARNING LIGHT. THIS IS COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY HAD I MADE IT TO THE INTERSTATE AND IT STALLED THERE. THIS HAS HAPPENED MORE TIMES THAN I CAN COUNT. IT TYPICALLY HAPPENS ON THE FIRST START OF THE DAY. THE CAR WILL RUN AND THEN START RUNNING REALLY ROUGH FOR NO REASON AND USUALLY STALLS OUT.

IT'S ALSO SHIFTS REALLY HARD WHEN WHILE JUST DRIVING, FEELS LIKE SOMEONE HIT ME FROM BEHIND. ALSO THE SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT WOULD GO ON SO I REPLACED THE SHIFTER BEZEL WITH WIRES TWICE AND NOW THE SERVICE SHIFT LIGHT IS BACK ON AGAIN.

I WAS DRIVING CAME TO A STOP A STOP SIGN, I STARTED TO GO AND MY JEEP JUST STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. IT WOULDNT MOVE OR ROLL. I GAVE IT GAS AND IT JUST RUM THE ENGINE UP. IT WOULDN'T MOVE AND CARS WERE COMING AT ME. IT SCARED ME. I ALMOST GOT HIT BY A CEMENT TRUCK. LIGHTS ON ALL THE SHIFTING LIT UP. SERVICE 4 WHEEL DRIVE LIGHT CAME ON. MILEAGE STARTED FLASHING. SOME LIGHT WITH CAR AND WAVY ROADS LIGHT CAME ON. IT JUST STOPPED ROLLING WHILE DRIVING .2015 JEEP CHEROKEE LATITUDE ONLY 69,000 MILES.

AT AROUND 40,000 MILES, TOUCH SCREEN/RADIO WOULD RANDOMLY SHUT OFF AND ON, AND SERVICE SHIFTER COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY. SOMETIMES STAYS ON CONSTANTLY, SOMETIMES COMES ON AND OFF. VERY FRUSTRATING AS NUMEROUS PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED THESE ISSUES ALL OVER THE INTERNET, BUT JEEP HAS DONE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT IT. SOME REPORTS EVEN MENTION INJURIES INVOLVED IN THE ISSUE. NO VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE THESE ISSUES THIS COMMONLY AT A VERY ACCEPTABLE LOW MILEAGE.

SERVICE SHIFTER AND SERVICE 4WD LIGHTS COME UP ON DASH AND THE SHIFTER PRND LIGHTS COME ON AT SHIFTER ON START UP AND WHILE DRIVING AND HAVE TO CUT SWITCH ON AND OFF IN ORDER TO DRIVE IT AT TIMES
