The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while in a drive-thru line, the front driver's side window started smoking. The contact disconnected the wiring to the door. The vehicle was taken to O'Reilly, where it was diagnosed with an internal door electrical failure. The contact personally replaced the power window motor. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing hard shifts while driving. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was previously taken to O'Reilly’s, where it was diagnosed that the failure was related to the alternator and low battery voltage. The alternator was taken to two technicians for testing, and the contact was informed that the alternator was in good condition. The vehicle was not repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that the ABS warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was recently taken to O'Reilly’s and AutoZone for diagnostic testing...
Check engine light on and coastal transmission in Toms River New Jersey inspected car and said transmission is not working properly and could cause a sudden stop. Cost would be $4,000 to rebuild it. [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
My transmission failed and was not connecting with the driver train any more. The Jeep only has 112k miles on it. This recall mentions the transmission teeth being broken/wore down and creating an issue. NHTSA Campaign #:: 20V343000 I never got anything about this recall. My cost to replace the transmission was $4700.
I’m submitting a complaint regarding a Power Transfer Unit (PTU) failure on my Jeep (VIN: [XXX] ), which affects the drivetrain and vehicle propulsion. On 11/26/2025, my vehicle was evaluated by Ourisman Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Bowie after dashboard warnings “Service 4WD” and “Service Shifter” appeared. The dealership diagnosed a PTU failure, provided a $3,835 estimate, and stated the required part is on national backorder with no availability date. The dealership also stated that if/when the part does become available, it is limited and can only order one part each month. Due to this failure, the vehicle may lose partial or complete drivetrain power while driving, potentially rendering it inoperable or impairing control, creating a safety risk, especially at highway speeds. Because the replacement part is unavailable with no foreseeable availability date for any customer experiencing this issue, the vehicle cannot be repaired at this time. This leaves me...
The car has been suddenly lurching backward and forward in traffic/ while driving, moving forward and backwards unexpectantly and not accelerating at an expected rate, causing other vehicles almost to hit me about 4 times within 1 week starting last week around 12/8/25, because my vehicle is not moving at the expected rate during yielding, changing lanes, etc. I took it to the shop and reported this issue, and they informed me that this vehicle has serious oil leaks and multiple parts that have failed involving the oil filter housing, engine valve cover, engine intake manifold gasket, etc. I have attached a list of parts that have failed in this vehicle from the repair shop for your records and can make available the parts upon request. My repair shop has told me that they have had to repair MULTIPLE other cars of this make and model for the same reason/...
My Jeep is disabled due to a drivetrain failure covered under Jeep’s XJ1 Warranty Extension. The required part is on extended backorder (weeks) and Jeep is unable to provide a remedy or transportation while the vehicle is inoperable. This results in a safety hazard and unreasonable delay of repair. Power Transfer Unit (PTU) failure under warranty extension XJ1. Vehicle is disabled and cannot be safely driven. Jeep is unable to provide the part required for repair, resulting in an unreasonable delay of remedy.
The PTU spline issues already recalled on 2017-2019 year Jeep Cherokee and other Stellantis vehicles, is affecting my 2015 Jeep Cherokee. See NHTSA Campain Numbers 25V011000, 23V302000, 20V343000.
Why does a service shifter notes appear on the dashboard of my 2015 Jeep Cherokee latitude? Thank you
My Jeep has been returned to the Dealership I purchased it from now for the 3rd time to have the Rear Differential completely replaced. The first time, because the Rear Differential axle seal was leaking. The 2nd time, the rear differential had another axle seal leak. This is now my 3rd time where I have dropped off my Jeep because of a noise coming out of the Read Differential, and the Dealer states it needs to be replaced, with under 1 year from the previous replacement. My Jeep has been sitting in the Dealership since Oct. 17 and the dealer is saying that Stallantis has over 400 of these rear differentials on back order. On Friday November 14, will be 5 weeks and now I cannot get my Jeep back, because the Dealership is saying the manufacturer has no estimate for when a new Rear Differential will be available. This...
Vehicle stopped moving forward as I was driving without warning and would not shift into any gear, not even neutral, pressing the accelerator was not responding. If I had been in high rate of speed road traffic, this sudden loss of forward motion could have been catastrophic. The vehicle was towed to the same dealer that performed the recall repair that was supposed to prevent this incident from occurring, results are attached. There were no warning lights or signs of an impending problem. The car has been towed back to my driveway.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 20V343000 (Power Train) and 23V338000 (Electrical System, Structure). The contact stated that while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact was unsure if any warning lights were illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle, and Jeep Roadside Assistance was contacted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, and the vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, the parking brake failed to disengage. The contact left the vehicle parked. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, the liftgate opened independently. Due to the failure, water entered the vehicle during a rainstorm. The contact stated that the liftgate failure...
My 2015 Jeep Cherokee Vin [XXX] threw a code on the ptu.I saw that it had a extended warranty on the car. When i took it to the dealer they informed me that car was imported to canda when bought. The car was brought back to United States work was done on the powertrain twice while the car was in Us and extended warranty was then issued for the ptu.The dealer told me the car was pending a recall as of yet the vin was not issued for recall. When i contacted Chrysler they informed that since the car was imported to Canada that warranty was voided. If possible to know if my car is coming up on recall list. Or if i can get further assistance in this issues i never know that a car can get imported to Canada then back to Us would have these issues. I...
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the “Service 4WD” warning light was illuminated. In addition, the “Service 4WD” warning light was flashing on and off. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with a power transfer unit failure. The contact was informed that the power transfer unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer for assistance. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a power transfer unit failure. The contact was informed that because the connection point was worn, the power transfer unit needed to be replaced. The contact referenced an unknown recall which had a similar failure description; however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The...
Service shifter warning came on while driving, had to put the vehicle back into automatic mode since manual shifting (paddle shifting) stopped working.
UNKNOWN - The "Service 4WD" and "Service Parking Brake" warning lights are on. My mechanic said that the PTU needs to be replaced and that this is a known issue with this model. It should be a recall item.
UNKNOWN - The "Service 4WD" and "Service Parking Brake" warning lights are on. The mechanic said that the PTU needs to be replaced and that this is a known issue with this model. That part is on backorder because the issue evidently is very common with this model. It should be a recall item.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the message "4-WD Service Needed" was displayed. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the PTU was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000.
Continual problems with Power train led to replacement of the Power Transfer Unit at 94,910 miles [ under warranty ] The vehicle is not usable when the PTU fails. The vehicle will slam into gear hard, or fail to move for a few seconds when trying to take off from a stop sign and then slam into gear. Very dangerous when pulling into traffic. Now after experiencing the same erratic behavior at 123000 miles , i took the jeep back to the same dealer only to find the Power transfer unit again must be replaced. The replacement only lasted about 28,000 miles. I am retired, this jeep has not been abused nor driven off road. This could cause an accident or strand me somewhere making me afraid to drive it. This problem seems to occur often with this model and also has reduced the value of this vehicle .
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal, the Electronic Throttle Control warning light illuminated on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH off an exit ramp, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the RPMs increased, but the vehicle failed to accelerate. The contact stated that the failure had mainly occurred while driving between 2nd and 3rd gear, and between 1st and 2nd gear. The dealer was contacted, and an appointment was scheduled for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The vehicle is exhibiting all the same mechanical issues as others that have been covered under a recall pertaining to the Power Transfer Unit (PTU). I took it to an authorized dealer and they discovered the input splines on the PTU are worn badly and suggested a PTU replacement as well as a rear axle replacement. They did the software update to reprogram the PTU and that was supposed to correct the issue. I had to pay for the software update, whereas, yet again this update was covered on other Jeep Cherokee's of the same make, model, and year. The dealer is saying that I will have to pay out of pocket for the PTU, and rear axle replacement since my 2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited does not have the particular recall for its VIN number. This vehicle is a safety risk to drive with these unaddressed issues that others have...
My car is hesitant in changing gears. I must put it in drive before it will go in reverse
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the transmission slipped into neutral, and the check engine, ABS, and traction control warning lights illuminated. The message "Service Transmission" and "Service Parking Brake" were displayed, and the vehicle lost automotive power. The contact pulled over and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed, and the contact was advised that the transmission wiring harness was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 142,000.
This vehicle is driven by my [XXX] daughter. The service 4x4 light came on . I took it to the dealer and they told me they updated the software. Well not even a week later the 4x4 light was back on and the ABS light. My daughter called me in a panic because the brakes were locking up. She was able to get the truck to the shoulder. I had the vehicle towed to a Jeep Chrysler dealership. I paid over $2500.00 to have vehicle repaired to only have the same 4x4 light on. I took truck back to the dealership to be told that it’s the PTU on the vehicle. Which the service guy Mark said is a common problem with these vehicles. I asked him if it’s ok to drive and he said well the car could be a safety issue . So I did my own research...
Electrical system/Transmission malfunctioned causing engine to shift into neutral while driving and cause engine to shut down and refuse to start again. The issue seems to only happen whenever the engine is up to temperature and the fan is active. The vehicle has been inspected by a dealership and they said the throttle body was the issue, after replacement the issue still persists. There is no warning lights or symptoms. It will happen either at rest or in motion. I was driving yesterday and it happened after I had completed a lane change and was almost hit by a semi. This is not the first instance of it occurring.
Took vehicle to garage after hearing rattling sound, mechanic said that PTU shaft almost completely came off due to spline wear. He said there should be an active recall specifically for this issue, so referred us to Jeep dealership for repair. The Jeep dealership said that the only active recall is for the powered lift gate module. However, my VIN was not included in the W47 recall (NHTSA 20V-343), even though my vehicle has the same problem. The Jeep dealership wants to replace the entire transmission mount for $516, but the other mechanic states this will likely not fix the problem.
The vehicle shows "4wd system unavailable service required" i took the vehicle to the dealership where they stated the PTU transfer case is not shifting. Dealership did not fix and said it is not covered under the recall for the PTU.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the 4-Wheel Drive mode had become inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the PTU had failed. The dealer advised the contact to continue driving the vehicle until the PTU failed completely because the vehicle could only be repaired under warranty after a complete failure of the PTU. The contact stated that the vehicle had failed to shift into gears as needed and had rolled away while parked. The contact stated that the vehicle required the parking brake to be engaged while parked. The contact stated while driving from a complete stop, the vehicle suddenly stalled and revved temporarily in the middle of an intersection. The contact was able to resume driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the failure could not be duplicated. The contact stated that while driving to...
at 21,734 miles the transmission has failed and cause the engine to rev to 5000RPM in park. service technician found excessive metal in transmission fluid and recommends replacing transmission, transmission cooler and transmission lines for $8085 plus tax. Technician was able to recreate the action of engine revving to 5000RPM once in park.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 - 65 MPH, the vehicle failed to accelerate and independently shifted to neutral, causing the vehicle to fail to accelerate. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact coasted to the side of the road and had the vehicle towed to a certified mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with transmission failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The mechanic retrieved NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V529000 (Power Train) from the website. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 101,500.
4WD stopped working shortly after purchase. Light comes on and off at will.
All Recalls for 2015 jeep Cherokee 2.4 wasn’t done properly and caused more damage. Transaxle harness, pscm, maniverter and more caused engine damage to block, which was supposed to be replaced during recall for oil consumption. Now dealer is wanting to charge me for damages pertaining to recalls and new engine block that wasn’t replaced during xb1 and x80 recall warranty. I was almost hit on highway from vehicle stalling out at highspeed and maniverter turning red from 20 minutes of driving from picking up from dealer after u90 recall was supposedly fixed. Constant dash notifications of throttle and shifter as well. I’ve already contacted legal advice and I just want my vehicle running properly, new vehicle or compensation. Everything on this vehicle needs replaced dealing with faulty pcm tcm bcm ecu pscm all harnesses practically entire vehicle.

I am filing this complaint to report a seemingly common ongoing and worsening transmission issues in my 2015 Jeep Cherokee, which persist and have become significantly worse after receiving the U90 recall update and a subsequent TCM/PCM software update offered by Jeep. My vehicle shifted regular before the update After the update, the vehicle began exhibiting: •Harsh and delayed shifting •Sudden jerks and gear hunting during low-speed driving •Uncommanded downshifts •Severe hesitation from a stop, especially at intersections or in traffic •Loss of power under throttle, with unpredictable shifts These symptoms make the vehicle unsafe in daily driving — especially in traffic or at intersections — as it often fails to respond predictably when attempting to accelerate or shift gears. The transmission behavior feels erratic, and software updates have not resolved the issue. Despite the U90 recall and repeated visits to the dealer, the transmission continues to perform poorly and...
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the 4WD Service light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed and the contact was informed that the PTU, timing cover, and the head gasket were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V343000 (POWER TRAIN) as the possible cause for the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 69,000.
The 4WD unavailable notification is displayed on the Jeep. I took the vehicle to a mechanic, and was told that the Power Transfer Unit needs to be replaced. Currently in a battle with a Jeep dealership, over whether or not they should honor the extended warranty on the PTU.
The transmission has had issues since we purchased the vehicle. The issues sometimes makes you feel unsafe when accelerating. Issues include hard shifting in lower gears, jerking, lurching, and sudden surges when accelerating. I have complained multiple times to the dealership during routine maintenance visits. They have performed several software updates but does not seem to help.
This issue occurred when I started the vehicle. Control panel showing Service 4WD and Four-Wheel Drive Unavailable. The dealership retrieved code C14A7-97 (PTU Motor - Component or System Operation Obstructed or Blocked) noting internal damage to PTU...PTU needs to be replaced. Quote to replace over $10K. There is another safety recall for the PTU but this code is not covered. I do not see how normal driving could cause "internal damage" to the PTU and cannot understand how this does not relate to any already known issues with the 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk PTU system.
Car repeatedly says “Shift to Park” when in any gear.
Since I bought the car Periodic here and there hesitation when going from complete stop to pressing gas to go . Traffic coming towards us and still hesitant to go (sometimes had to pull to the side and other times finally caught on and went) so took it in for tune up had spark plugs replaced and over time periodic hesitation happening again. . Didn’t think much of it then maybe it’s the car (it was so infrequent) until the SVC 4WD light came abt a week n half ago and now the car has been in the shop since waiting to have the PTU replaced. Why was my car not recalled? And others have been. It only has Just under 100,000 miles on it. Currently at Lynch Chrysler Jeep in Mukwonago being worked on! Also just 4 weeks prior to that it was in for the standard ignition engine...
PTU has been replaced out of pocket and will need to be again. Also when turning right it feels as if a fuel cut happens. Every other year has been addressed but mine has not been tho 2015 has been know to be one of the worst years
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH, the vehicle made an abnormal grinding sound coming from the engine. The contact stated that the Service 4WD message was displayed and remained displayed. The contact stated the vehicle jerked while driving at slow speeds. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with engine cooling, engine, and electrical system failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched online and related the failures to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V676000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING), 15V041000 (AIR BAGS), and 20V343000 (POWER TRAIN); however, the VIN was not included in the recalls. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that he would be receiving an email. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
4 wheel drive wont kick in
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made an abnormal grinding sound. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the power transfer unit needed to be replaced, but the part was on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V343000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.
On several occasions, I have been driving the vehicle when it suddenly shifted gears and lurched forward unexpectedly. This action is so powerful it feels like another car has hit me from behind. This was a transmission failure and is available for inspection. Both myself and my family members have suffered whiplash-like neck injuries from these repeated incidents. The automobile puts us at risk of colliding with another vehicle, shifting out of gear, and stopping in the middle of the road or highway while driving. The dealer checked the vehicle, and they could not reproduce the problem. The dealer has inspected the vehicle. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to failure. The problem began in 2020 and has gotten worse over time. Driving through [XXX] in Belfair, WA my 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with the 2.4L started running rough and was jerking. As I entered the turn lane the Service Park Brake light flashed, my Jeep jerked to a stop and the emergency brake was turned on while I was still in Drive. I could not get the Emergency Brake to release even after putting my vehicle into park and pressing the brake pedal. I turned the Jeep off then back on but the Emergency Brake was still stuck on. I had to shut the Jeep off and get out of my vehicle on a very busy Highway to get my tools from the spare tire cargo. Upon retrieving my tools I noticed several inches of standing water in the spare tire area. I then popped my hood, disconnected the battery then reconnected the battery. This allowed the Emergency Brake to release...
I own a 2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited. A week ago I was in a parking lot and reversing out of a parking space when a warning light came on "shift in park to start engine." The engine was running, however as I shifted to drive numerous lights on the dash board were flashing on and off. I shifted the vehicle to park, however when I shifted back to drive the vehicle was not moving forward when I stepped on the gas pedal. I shut the vehicle off and on and was able to shift to drive and move forward although multiple warnings were flashing on the dash board. I was able to drive back to my home. I turned the vehicle off and on and again shifted to drive, however this time the vehicle did not move forward, the same when I shifted to reverse. I have not taken my...
I had an incident in 2018 with the power transfer unit in this vehicle wherein I lost all control of the vehicle while driving. The dealer repaired it at that time. However, recently I was advised by the dealer that I am likely to have the same issue because the power transfer unit needs to be replaced and is a known issue yet for some reason my specific model is not included in the recall.
Hi, There are numbers of recalls and 3 of the recalls came back. I got engine light with the codes U0402 Implausible Data Received From TCM U0164 Lost Communication With HVAC Control Module TCM BCM and PCM needs to be reprogrammed or replaced. Also car is accelerating while cruise control is set. Fca satisfaction notice - R01 Fca recall - S55 Nhtsa recall - 16V - 529 Fca recall - U63 Nhtsa recall - 18V - 332 These 3 recalls need to be redone. Thanks
"Service Shifter" light comes on. When this happens, the 9 speed shifter stops working. Also, all of the vehicle information system shuts off.
