The Power Transfer Unit has been diagnosed by dealer as, "Internal failure within PTU obstructing shift". This unit automatically transfers power to a rear wheel or wheels whenever the front wheel or wheels loses traction/slips due to wet, slick surfaces. This action enables vehicle to regain traction and stabilize control of vehicle. Without it loss of traction cannot be corrected putting the vehicle at risk of a catastrophic accident. The dealer has not repaired this and it has been over two months that I continue to drive this vehicle. The reason dealer has not repaired as told to me is that the part is unavailable due to high demand indicating that this is not an isolated incident.

About six weeks ago the "check 4WD" light started coming on intermittently and would then go off. I had the car checked before a road trip (that we didn't take for safety reasons) and my shop found a 2020 recall (W48/NHTSA 20E-037) for "all Chrysler models." I brought the car to Jeep of Chicago on [XXX] and the diagnostic found metal particles in the PTU fluid. I then opened a case ([XXX]) with Chrysler, which I was told on [XXX] they cancelled without contacting me or Jeep of Chicago because my VIN wasn't associated with any recalls. I found that Chrysler recalled 2016/2017 Jeep Cherokees for this issue and I was told by service people at Jeep of Chicago and Fields Jeep they have had a number of Jeeps come in for this issue. I was quoted $2818.55 to fix this and want Chrysler to pay for this. I am...

We bought the car brand new at Lithia Motors in Roseburg Oregon. After just a few months of driving, there was a noticeable clunk in the transmission at approximately 30-40 mph that occurred at random and included a shudder. The problem seemed to occur about every 3 or 4 days. We took the car to Lithia and they could not replicate the problem. Lithia did do some software updates. We were advised of a class action suit regarding the transmission. We made a claim and we were denied because they said we did not report the issues enough to Lithia. We appealed that because we told Lithia about the problem every time we took the car to their facility for oil changes. In December of 23 we had an issue with the car missing and took it to Lithia. The replaced injector one and advised there was minimal seepage from...

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The driver was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was able to restart; however, the message "Please Shift to Park," was displayed even though the gear selector was already in park(P). After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the catalytic converter. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 181,000.

SER 4WD lights and beeps went on they turn off and back on within 5 minutes. Took to a repair shop and they stated it’s a PTU. However can’t get it fixed because no parts are available . Repair shop said there has been recalls on this problem.

The service shifter light comes on intermittently on my 2015 jeep Cherokee latitude. Service shifter light comes on dash and all lights on the shifter assembly are solid red. The service shifter light will not go off until the car is turned off and back on. It causes the heads up display to be blocked until the vehicle is turned off to reset the lights. The transmission feels like it is missing a gear or slipping between gears just before the service shifter light comes on. It does not have a solid time that it comes on. You can be driving down the road and it just comes on or you can be putting the car into reverse and it comes on. The jumper and bezel along with the shifter assembly has been replaced 2 times already. The first time it was replaced at my cost on April 8, 2022....

After the recall was completed on the drive spline and the software was updated the transmission started to hold gears, miss gears, and hard shift so badly at times where I almost was rear ended getting onto the highway numerous times.

Driving on highway and SVC 4WD indicator appeared then an alert message on dash saying sensor overheated and 4WD is no longer available. Had a loss of acceleration, poor shifting, and hard grinding noise coming from either the ptu or transmission.

Since very beginning, this vehicle has issue with shifting gears. In the middle of the road, it abruptly shifts the gears with scary noise and whole car vibrates like someone crashes you. I was in the dealer twice for this problem and there was a recall as well. But it didn't fix the issue.

i had the "Service 4WD" light come on in my vehicle. Being concerned, I started researching what it could be. While looking into the issues I found that a lot of Jeep customers (all different models) are having PTU failures. Of course the diagnosis came back that I needed to replace the PTU. My concern is that from what I have read, the vehicle could just stop going into gear. How is it that other vehicles of the year and model are covered but mine is not. I've worked in the automotive industry for years and I understand production dates and all that, but if they are having so many issues why are any vehicle not covered? It seems to me that they know there is a major problem and not addressing it across the board. I have contacted Jeep and was explained all the things that are no longer...

PTU transfer case issues. Hard drop/ jolt while driving causing issues. Saw other recalls for same issues for other Jeep cherokees of same year.

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, she noticed fluid leaking underneath the rear end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the rear differential had fractured internally and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 45-50 MPH, the vehicle experienced hard shifting. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) needed to be replaced; however, the part to repair the vehicle was not available. The vehicle was taken back to the residence. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

I have had this shifter on my car changed and serviced 4 times and I still have an issue. The car keeps saying service shifter everytime I reverse. Barking brake module needed to be replaced. Car roof was leaking causing major damage to my car. I have all paperwork of services. Jeep tells me that because my car is not under warranty they can not assist me. I spent about 5k on fixing this car alone not including payments. I took this car to who jeep referred I also took it to the dealership I brought it from and same issue until this day. I gave up!!!!

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at approximately 50 MPH, the message "Unable to Use 4x4 At This Time” was displayed. Transfer case recall. 2015 not included. Vehicle has 65,000 miles, looks new, no trailer hitch. First detected [XXX]. Still no part available, Jeep US not helpful, apparently "expedited " part three times. Clearly a manufacturer defect on all vehicles affected and should be covered. Jeep should pay for the part at this point and provide a vehicle while I am waiting, over two months since I was told to replace the part still no results. Car cannot be driven. Brakes can fail with this malfunctioning transfer case. Goss Dodge South Burlington VT has been very good it is out of their hands waiting for the part as well. Clearly it is a huge issue on these vehicles if the part is still not available. No warning signs, just got a "noise" in the front end. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I went to muffler man hearing a noise in the undercarriage and they found it to be in the powertrain area when I'm driving it, it sounds like the wheel spinning is missing skipping some of the teeth. When it happened I was in a left turn lane waiting to turn when I finally turned it sounded kinda like a pop noise then it started making grinding noise.

•What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? A. The drive train PTU and it is available for inspection upon request. •How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? A. According to FCA this problem could cause an accident as I could lose all power while driving if it fails completely while in motion and I have not been able to use my 4WD drive reliably when needed. •Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? A. The problem is a known issue by FCA. At Safford Chrysler Jeep Dodge of Warrenton the service writer told me that my vehicle was not throwing out the right code for the work to be covered by warranty, however now Chrysler is saying that because my code C14A7-97 does not align with the codes under this...

We were informed by our dealership, Kaiser Bros in Muncy PA (Jeff Lee; Service Advisor) that our power transfer unit is faulty in our 2015 Jeep Latitude which doesn't even have 100,000 miles on it. There are metal flakes in the power transfer units fluid, this could cause an accident as I could lose all power while driving. I initially reached out to Chrysler Jeep on 2/28/23 and was told that there was an extended warranty on this part JX1 until 2030 and to take it to the dealership to be fixed. The person at Chrysler did not ask for a code of any sort, however now Chrysler is saying that because my code C14A7-97 does not align with the codes under this "warranty" they will not cover this to be replaced. The codes that are under this warranty are P1720-00 and P215C-00. Chrysler is aware that this part is...

Randomly an audible alarm sounds and the dash indicates "Service Shifter" while the digital dashboard indicators do not allow to navigate away from that notice, and all of the lights on the transmission indicators illuminate. I called the dealer and they said they were aware of issues with that, but no recall exists. I Googled the "Service Shifter" and my model vehicle and apparently it's a larger problem than the Dealer indicated on the phone. I was advised to turn the vehicle off, open the door, close the door, and restart the vehicle. The error cleared but later intermittently reappears.

Transmission has a delay when taking off from a stop (2-3 second delay while accelerating before it shifts), had a message saying service airbag, service transmission, service park break then all messages disappeared.

Our 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk is being recalled for transmission and power lift gate. These parts cannot be fixed because the parts are not avaiable. Also they updated the navigation and UCONNECT and vehicles 2015-2018 are not eligible for the update. They changed from 3G to 4G. And our Jeep is not qualified. We went to another car dealer and were told because of the recalls which they have many on their lot, we were offered only 7000 dollars for trade. Because of the recalls, we need to get another vehicle.

I received an error message on the dash that the PTU failed which is a common failure on this Jeep. Mine was diagnosed by a local dealership. They informed me that the PTU ws determined to be ok, and the Transmission Control Module was actually at fault. After waiting for the part, which wasn't available due to the Stellantis strike. When I was waiting for the parts to come in, the dealer said I could drive the Jeep since it was electronic part failure and as long as I didn't engage the 4-wh. dr. to power the rear wheels, it would be ok to drive. When the TCM was received, I dropped the Jeep off for service. The part was replaced, error cleared, and test driven by the technician. The error message immediately returned. At this point, the technician decided to do a visual inspection of the drivetrain. He found...

The transmission 'locks' into neutral while at a light or stop or when trying to reverse. You must put the vehicle in to Park to reset the transmission. The engine will rev with the transmission 'locked' in a neutral state. Note: the vehicle was not moved into neutral. You are actively in drive or revs when it almost slips into the neutral state. The gear shift still shows in drive or revs, but the transmission is not engaged.

“Service shifter” light during driving but goes away. Impossible to figure out how to repair because it doesn’t stay on. This is extremely dangerous and we are worried it would stop working in traffic and cause accident. Not to mention dealer won’t look at or repair it since it has no trouble codes when scanned.

Service shifter light Service shifter light came on and gear shift lights are all red; Reverse, Park, Neutral, Drive. Then a warning message flashed to service the air bag system and the 4wd needs servicing. This has happened three times. The first time it happened was at a stoplight. The second time it happened I could not leave a parking lot. The third time it happened I barley got it toy destination to park it. I have researched that this tends to be a problem with jeeps.

While driving moderately at about 45 miles per hour I heard a clunk in the drivetrain and the vehicle would no longer propel itself and I was in the middle lane in traffic during rush hour. I nearly got hit three times attempting to get out of the middle lane. Once I got to the right lane I managed to coast up a driveway and coast backwards into a parking spot. My spouse is handicapped and the reason I keep a very good vehicle to transport her for Medical Appointments, especially. I contend that Jeep, Chrysler, Daimler, Fiat and all the others involved in the reason for this recall, knowingly and without regard for safety of their consumers assembled the transmission with the defectively machined transfer case for MONETARY reasons. I want my car repaired as a defective vehicle under the LEMON LAW act.

Jeep dealer confirmed problem 7/10/23 and will order new parts. It was first discovered @ oil & filter change at AAA. I wanted the dealership to examine problem and confirm. Also, I had a third inspection to verify damage. Please see the attached verifications.

PTU motor component issue. Jeep will not fix they state I’m out of warranty period. This was recalled for over 70k jeeps but not my vin and now jeep has over 700 on back order in Colorado alone. No one from jeep will assist me with fixing it or a car. They say it could be months! I need help and assistance as I can’t fix it or get the part to fix it. Can’t drive it and there is a safety issue with it on park even and lose power.

The Jeep Cherokee Latitude suddenly quit running on freeway with no warning. Car would not travel but coasted to a stop. She was lucky no one was close by or the car would have been plowed into from behind. This could have created a chain reaction pile up due to the busy freeway. Car is currently at a dealer and was evaluated for a faulty transmission and needs to be replaced. This was in a Jeep recall a few years ago but supposedly didn't cover my vin, S55. Now, Chrysler is leaving me to deal with their transmission problem. This is a major safety problem as mentioned in their recall.

Recently my service 4WD light came on in June 2023. My 4 WD system is completely unusable. It is deactivated according to system. It was on for a week before I could get into a shop. This has caused my Jeep to get stuck in gravel and spin out when trying to get grip as the system doesn't engage to help. My parking lot at work is gravel so this is a daily occurrence. This renders my Jeep and unusable in bad weather and or adverse conditions. We live in the mountains and not having this available makes it possible of getting stuck and being stuck. Which is a safety hazard for me. I could get hit by passing vehicles or if car ends up going into limp mode it could cause an accident. When I took in to shop/ independent service to have inspected and find out what was...
