Service transmisión message and loss of Power to the wheels not acelerating at All i have to pull over and turn off the Vehicle and turn i on so it Can reset and continúe driving.
Started my Jeep during one of the coldest days in Michigan, and it failed to start. When I eventually got it jumped, there was no power to transmission, and I was unable to shift into park. Engine idle was very rough and was unable to move it in any way.
1) The Power Transfer Unit and possibly driveline/driveshaft. 2) The car turns off while driving and all systems lock up, no matter how fast you are going. Power steering fails, steering wheel locks, and the car cannot be turned back on until it is put back in park, which means you come to a full stop and attempt to turn back on. Sometimes the car has no power to turn back on to put in park leaving you stranded in the middle of the road with cars behind you. This has mainly happened while we are slowing down to a stop, but still going 20-25 MPH. Thankfully not faster yet. 3) The dealer and another mechanic have identified a PTU issue, but could not reproduce. On 9/2021 the check engine light came on. Took it to a mechanic and they noted: "POWER TRANSFER UNIT SYSTEM OPERATION OBSTRUCTED, WHILE IN THE...
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The message "Service Transmission" was displayed. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road. The vehicle was able to restart. The contact stated that upon resuming driving, the failure recurred several times after a half to two miles of driving, causing the contact to pull over to the side of the road several times. The contact was able to drive to the residence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V447000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included. Additionally, the dealer informed the contact that an unknown part needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,500.
I started the vehicle and started to drive. The gear slid to park and stop in the middle of the road. An indicator said to check transmission. After pushing it off the road, the next day is driving again. All the check engine sign went off.
STARTED APPEARING A MONTH AGO, COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER ON MAJOR HIGHWAYS/INTERSTATES. THE PTU WAS SUPPOSEDLY ALREADY REPLACED DUE TO 1ST RECALL (PRIOR OWNER), BUT STILL HAD ISSUES WITH REPLACEMENT. I HAVE 2 CHILDREN AND THE COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER TERRIFIED ME. THE PTU IS A $3,000 REPAIR/REPLACEMENT. I WAS ABLE TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND PULL OVER TO RESTART THE CAR, BUT THIS HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES! THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED MAJOR ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS!!!
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was restarted; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that the vehicle was jerking abnormally with several warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 54,000.
UNKNOWN. I bought my car used in 2023 it showed that a recall that I’m currently dealing with was fixed in the past with the previous owner and that the warranty on the recall expired back in 2021. Well now I’m dealing with an issue with my car and repairs are way more than the car is worth. Wouldn’t this mean that they didn’t complete the recall correctly in the past and that jeep should cover it ? I’m left with a vehicle I cannot drive because of them not completing the recall correctly in the past or by using faulty parts. What to do from here? I included what the report.
Bought a 2014 Jeep Cherokee, while driving the vehicle one day it started braking while accelerating causing it to jerk the vehicle and had to pull over causing the car to completely shut off. I took it to a dealership to get two recalls fixed on it that I found out about and after getting the vehicle back from the dealership and driving it there has been poor acceleration, harsh shifting gears. I was getting a lug nut replaced on my tire at a dealership. I was about to leave with my vehicle and it wouldn’t get out of the parking brake. Then the Service parking brake light comes on the far. I have to get them to look at it again and they find water damage to the Parking Brake Module due to a leak from somewhere. Having to wait on estimates on what it will cost to fix...
While driving, the transmission goes into neutral. This happens at any speed. It won't go into gear at all. The local Jeep dealer said they could replace my transmission that I pay for. There was an initial lawsuit on these. But, any owner after the first one doesn't get help. I am disabled and on a limited income. I am stuck at home because I never know when the vehicle will go into neutral. I don't know what to do. This has happened every time I drive it. I have had to risk it to drive to the doctor and to get my prescriptions. If I can get it off of the road, I cut it off. It usually goes back into gear. But, when it goes into neutral, my complex PTSD and my anxiety disorder goes into overdrive. I feel absolutely hopeless about this. I would appreciate any help...
This vehicle has an extremely dangerous & ongoing issue related to the 9-speed transmission. Many times the vehicle does not know when to shift, sputtering/sluggish/jerky when accelerating from being stopped and coming to a stop. Frequently the vehicle engages itself into Neutral and/or Parking Brake while driving at both city and highway speeds. This is a very dangerous safety hazard as any motorist trailing behind me can not anticipate the sudden deceleration that ensues. The vehicle then either becomes "stuck" in a gear at too high an RPM at given speed, or engages the parking brake or seems to then be in Neutral. These instances regularly frequent, leaving me having to pull off side of roadway in sometimes dangerous position, perform handful of restart cycles in order to clear the condition and be back in a proper enough gear-state to get back on the road. The following cluster warning lights...
When starting to accelerate the the transmission hesitates to shift, then up to 30 mph or so it the car will stutter / miss fire causing a jerking motion of the car. It will accelerate to a steady speed abourn 55 mph.
I was driving on the highway when the PTU randomly locked up as if I hit the emergency brake, and made me come to a stop, no one was behind me at the time and I was able to get the car to the side of the road
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while coming to a stop, the vehicle stalled with no warning light illuminated. The contact also noticed that the electronic brake pedal became inoperable and would not engage. The vehicle was able to restart. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the PTU (power transfer unit) had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.
As of this date: Started about a year ago, when Jeep was over 150,000 miles. When accelerating to turn or from a stop sign or light, vehicle would stall, mimicking the feeling the vehicle ran out of gas. This occurred about once a month. Working at home and not driving my vehicle as much its hard to say if it would have occurred more often. Checked for any codes, none appeared. As I have recently started driving back in the office 3 days a week, the issue of stalling at any given time with no warning began occurring more often. Took it to trusted local service shop, they changed the purge valve pump and gas cap, as they were puzzled on the problem. Did not seem to matter if gas was full, half or under half. The issue occurred twice within 2 weeks. Service shop recommended taking to dealership. Jeep...
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the transmission only shifted gear at 5,000 RPM’s. The contact stated that the failure had become progressively worse, causing the contact to become stranded on two separate occasions due to transmission failure. The local dealer was contacted; however, the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the VIN related to the failure and there would be no assistance provided. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000.
The PTU on my 2014 Jeep Cherokee failed and was replaced. The attached documents were sent to Stellantis as a “reimbursement request”, was denied per the attached 10/17 email from Jeep Customer Care. As evidenced by numerous online complaints as well as NHTSA Recalls and class action lawsuits, replacement of the PTU was the result of a faulty design and safety concerns. The Stellantis refusal of my claim for reimbursement is unacceptable. What assistance can NHTSA provide to resolve this matter? Thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The component that has failed was the PTU. It is available for inspection as well. My familys safety and myself along with other drivers safety was put at risk due to the "recall solution" for the failed ptu splines failing causing my vehicle to lose propulsion and setting the parking brake in traffic while at intersections as well as in traffic. The vehicle has not been inspected by any manufacturer, law enforcement, insurance, or any other. There were no service light prior to the component failing it just happend and almost caused us to get hit in the rear. The lights came on after the component failed, and this vehicle has had the "recall" addressed, but the recal is supposed to keep the problem from happening. Not i have "svc 4wd" light on and the vehicle has issues accelerating, no other symptoms prior to the failure. Fixing a faulty component...
PTU is malfunctioning
The contact's wife owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 45 MPH, the gear shifter moved to neutral(N) independently and the vehicle stopped abruptly. The contact stated that the driver restarted the vehicle; however, the gear shifter remained stuck in neutral(N). The messages "Service Transmission" and "Service Parking Brake" were displayed. A bystander assisted the driver in pushing the vehicle to the side of the road and then to a gas station. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V447000 (Power Train). The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at 40 MPH, the RPM increased quickly, but the vehicle lost motive power, after which the contact became aware that the transmission had shifted into neutral independently. The driver was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the message "Please shift to park" was displayed. After shifting to park and back into drive, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V529000 (Power Train), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 170,000.
While driving at highway speed I loose power on the accelerator, the dashboard tells me to "shift to park" I need to pull off to side of the road without getting hit. Shift car into park. After I do that, the engine starts again and we are back to normal. Sometimes the car turns off during this period and needs to be restarted also, other times it doesn’t . Very scary.
POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION | POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DIFFERENTIAL UNIT continues to experience movement in the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) between the differential input splines and the transmission output shaft and has caused input spline teeth to wear off, leading to a loss of engagement between the transmission and the differential inside the PTU. If there was a recall performed on this vehicle, it was either too late, or ineffective. Requires a new PTU.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving from a complete stop uphill, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle hesitated to respond and lunged forward while responding. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving from a complete stop uphill. Additionally, the contact stated while driving and coming to a complete stop, the vehicle made an abnormal clunking sound while the transmission shifted to the intended gear. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the PTU had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V343000 (Power Train) in 2023. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact became aware that the 4-WD warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was diagnosed with Power Transfer Unit (PTU) failure. The contact was informed that the Power Transfer Unit needed to be replaced. The dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 121,500.
I was driving down the road when all of a sudden my car was in neutral and I was unable to get the car moving. Called AAA they towed me to In a state Transmission because the transmission light came on. Interstate Transmission said there was nothing wrong with the transmission. It’s a computer problem. Soooo we going to fix this anytime soon?
2014 Jeep Cherokee with 84,000 miles. I took it to a dealership because it had a clicking noise. They said the PTU, Power Train Unit was going bad and the splines were causing the noise. Apparently this can cause the vehicle to stop moving and will damage the transmission if not replaced. I was told the part is on backorder and may take a few months to get in. Received a quote for over $4,000 to replace the PTU.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal sound coming from the transmission while changing gears. There was no warning light illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. An appointment with a local independent mechanic was scheduled to inspect the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 172,000.
Bought 2014 Latitude Apr 5, 2023 Trouble starts with acceleration moving 40 mph suddenly I'm not going anywhere, car is in nuetral but gear shift is still in drive but engine is. Car message says put vehicle in park restart and choose desired action. I'm in the middle of traffic that's moving 40 to 60 mph. This has been ongoing for over a year. I have not had my Jeep for over 340 days since 2023 as it remains in shop.
My car is a 2014 My PUT failed in 2020 for the first time, and now In 2024 for the 2nd time. This is supposed to be a heavy duty vehicle and I dont ever take it off road. It shouldn't fail like this.
The Power Transfer Unit (PTU) needs to be replaced. A warning light came on, "Svc 4wd". I have 130,000 miles on the vehicle. My mechanic said it will take months to get the part because so many other Cherokees are having the same issue. It would seem to me that if this issue is so widespread, a recall should be made on it. Instead, I am being asked to pay $3,500 to have it repaired once the part comes in. Now I have a car that I am afraid to drive before it is fixed as I don't know if driving it will create further, more extensive, issues.
The Power Transfer Unit PTU is failing on my 2014 Jeep Cherokee and Jeep knows this is an issue. They have already recalled over 67,000 vehicles for this issue but somehow my vehicle isn’t affected when there’s no way I could have damaged the part myself. The problem has been diagnosed by a Jeep dealership as failing but I don’t want to drive it and have fail in the middle of a trip where I would ultimately lose all power to the vehicle and be stranded in the middle of the road. No warning lamps came on but vehicle has been making a loud scraping metal on metal sound below 35 and when decelerating.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the message "Service 4-Wheel Drive" was displayed. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring intermittently and was preventing the vehicle from switching from one driving mode to another as intended. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V343000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 153,000.
My vehicle had no service light or warnings prior to shutting down in a parking lot. Now it won’t start and says 4WD is unavailable, service transmission. I had to pay for it to be towed to my home. I’m a disabled veteran living on a fixed income and cannot afford to take it to a dealer. Seems to me that the recall W47 20V343000 directly addresses the reason my vehicle is inoperable and so SHOULD include my VIN!
PTU issue keep appearing, believe our call should also be included into below recall. Can someone advise please? Recall #: [XXX] Report Receipt Date: [XXX} Component(s): POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2017 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a two-speed Power Transfer Unit (PTU). Relative movement in the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) between the differential input splines and the transmission output shaft may cause some input spline teeth to wear off, which may eventually cause a loss of engagement between the transmission and the differential inside the PTU. If this occurs, power cannot be transferred between the front wheels and the transmission which results in a loss of drive while the vehicle is in motion and a loss of the Park function while stationary. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Service 4WD light is constantly on while driving. The Jeep is at over 112,000 miles. My mechanic did a diagnostic check and the code that was provided was C14A7-97 PTU Motor-Component or System Operation Obstructed or Blocked. I checked with the Jeep dealership for a possible recall and gave my VIN number. There are no current recalls. For 2014-2017 Jeep Cherokees where the PTU has not been previously replaced, the auto maker’s recall number is W47 and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)’s recall campaign number is 20V343. At the current moment I’m scared to drive this car. I drive my elderly mother and kids in this car. If these problems are due to a recall I need my car fixed by Jeep. They are the only ones that know how to handle this situation.
SVC Warning light on- Notice of 4wd not accessible/power issues/surges/constant burning smell of fluid. Started about 3/1/2024. Took for service at Firestone then referred to Transmission shop. Transfer box for 4wheel drive defective, fluid leaking. Advised I could loose power without notice if not repaired. Local dealers are backlogged for the part, by several hundred requests, as this is a issue for this vehicle. Repair is costing me over $3,000.00. My mileage is 68000.
When tank is filled up, my car stall or jumps and losses power when in drive and come to a stop, it tells me to put in park. But has done it while driving and just died, but it happens every time I fill up my tank, but it’s bad when I get to a red light and it jumps or when I come to crossing and just jumps in traffic or stops
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while the vehicle was idling, the message "Shift to Park" displayed and the vehicle shut off. The contact indicated that the failure had also occurred while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure or diagnosed the failure and no corrective service was performed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 4,000.
The 2014 - 2016 jeep Cherokee introduced a new design to increase off-road capability, by creating a PTU "Power Transfer Unit" for their 4WD models, many of the v6 models had problems with this unit and two recalls have been created by the NHTSA to deal with this problem, My car is the 4 cylinder model which also has a PTU and has suffered the exact same issues the V6 owners had but we have not been given access to the recall. This is a widely known issue that thousands of 2014 4 cylinder jeep Cherokee owners have been suffering with. It is a risk and danger on the road way, causing irregular and unexpecting driving issues, complete loss of power to the rear wheels "which could be life threatening in some situations", in my situation I had reduced and intermittent power when trying to take a left hand turn...
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle suddenly shifted into neutral, after which the vehicle lost motive power. The driver was able to coast to the shoulder of the roadway, where the failure persisted. The traction control warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V447000 (Power Train) but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 134,000.
transmission- vehicle started jerking and bucking with less than 101,000 miles.
When trying to turn through an intersection, transmission slipped into neutral and would not shift back into drive for several minutes, while I was stuck in the middle of the intersection. After finally shifting into drive, I returned the vehicle home, only 1/2 mile, and it did the same thing 4 more times.
JEEP WONT SHIFT OR MOVE AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN LEAVING ME STRANDED
Power Transfer Case failure. There is a recall for both the PTU and the transfer case for other Jeep Cherokee models 2014-2016, but my vin # is not included. I experience frequent issues with a sudden loss of power when trying to proceed from a stopped position, often in the middle of an intersection. I found many complaints online about this with 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawks, and have asked FCA and the Jeep dealership several times over the past 2 years why my VIN isn't included, if I am experiencing the same problem. FCA wouldn't even open a case for me about it. The repair is approximately $8000 through Jeep, and $1500 through 3rd party, however it requires programming, which only Jeep can do. Re: the liftgate recall, I've been waiting 7 months for parts to come in for that, as well. My liftgate failed at least 3 years ago.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that after fully refueling the tank, the transmission failed to operate as designed with the messages "Shift to Park" and "Shift to Desired Gear" was displayed. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 167,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle began to shake, after which it lost motive power and suddenly jerked forward. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the PCM wiring harness. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V338000 (Electrical System, Structure), and the VIN was included, but parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. VIN tool confirms parts not available. The failure mileage was 103,000.
The 4 wheel drive unavailable indicator keeps coming up. In all research there is a safety risk if the PTU goes out. Chrysler is refusing to remedy the extended warranty of 8 years/150,000 miles on my vehicle. Saying the code is not the code they are looking for! I also took my vehicle to the dealership in Casper Wy. They specified Chrysler/Stalantis is not honoring this. I also called Chrysler directly and received the same run around! I have owned MANY jeeps over the years as well as have many of my family members and NEVER had an issue. No accident has happened yet but am VERY aware it could happen if not remedied!
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving and attempting to accelerate, there was an abnormal pop and a clunking sound detected. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who informed the contact that the bolts on the power transfer unit had been stripped. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the failure was related to Manufacturer Communication Number: 21-014-23 (Power Train). The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.
The vehicle went out of gear basically into neutral at 70 mph going down the interstate. Afterwards the vehicle would not go into any gear leaving me stranded on the side of the interstate.
