The ptu has failed in my vehicle. When I bought the vehicle there was a 4x4 light on the dash but I was told that it needed to be just turned off by a jeep dealership. But I believe it actually was a symtom of the failing ptu. My vehicle sometimes goes into neutral when I try to pull off from a stop sign and then the vehicle kicks itself back into drive. My coolant and transmission temp rises the more I drive it and transmission seems to shift late or hard and sometimes prematurely sometimes it smells like burning electrical.
November 20 I took my car to Seattle jeep to comply with a NHTSA recall (U90).Few days latter when they finish the repair they created a new problem with the transmission.Now I have a rough or abrupt transmission shifting like being rear ended.The dealer told me: the manufacturer need to fix it because of some flaws in the software calibration or it’s internal components. Vehicle experienced a sudden no-start condition in July 2025 after being parked for ~2 weeks. Engine cranked briefly, then shut off and displayed a red immobilizer warning. OBD-II scans showed BCM memory faults (B22A9), immobilizer lockout (P0513), CAN-C bus communication errors, and repeated low-voltage codes. Dealer replaced PCM (~$1,550) but vehicle still inoperative. Dealer then determined BCM (Body Control Module, part #68141881AJ) failed, but part has been discontinued by Mopar and is unavailable nationwide. Used BCMs are VIN-locked, leaving no authorized repair path. Vehicle is also subject to NHTSA Recall 23V338000 (power liftgate module electrical short / parasitic drain). My vehicle showed repeated low-voltage events consistent with this defect, which likely corrupted the BCM and immobilizer system. Dealer confirmed recall parts are still backordered. As a result, a 2014 Jeep Cherokee with only ~32,000 miles has been rendered permanently inoperable due to discontinued safety-critical electronics. The defect creates a substantial...
Less then 120000 miles and rear differential unit had to be replaced, and now roughly 158000 miles and now front differential unit has to be replaced.
My oil filter housing is bad on my Jeep. They were built with plastic which everyone knows doesn't last long and now changed to aluminum because they realized it was a problem for many owners. The issue you spend lots of money until can get to a shop and then a lot more money for repair. Leaking oil and coolant everywhere until you find out the issue plus the risk of fire if overheats extremely. My complaint proves they finally realized that plastic was no good but owner stuck with bill of replacement and shop fees. I have shopped around several part stores for the part and I am shocked at the number of people who have replaced this part. Just wondering why no recall issued especially with them changing the material of the part.
Approximately 2'years.ago I was on my way home from work around 10:30 pm. I was in moderate to heavy traffic and the jeep threw a code saying service transmission. I wasn't able to accelerate. I had to navigate carefully through traffic with my hazards on to get to a safe place to stop. I was finally able to and turned off my car. I let it sit for a few minutes then I try to restart it again. The check engine light was still on it still said service transmission. I tried to put the vehicle in reverse, and it jumped so hard I thought that I had hit something. I turn it back off again and left it off for approximately 20 minutes. I believe this is an issue with the parking brake module. The vehicle tries to shutdown or stalls while driving (in my case at 60 MPH on highway). It literally loses power and I get the disabled parking brake warning on dashboard. Losing driving power and stalling while moving at that speed has been very dangerous and life threatening. When I start the vehicle it acts as if the parking brake is engaged even though it is not.
Just got gas, stopped at the gym, started jeep, drove out of parking lot then the jeep randomly went into neutral and dash said vehicle needed to be put in park to shift gears, I put it in park, then into drive and didn't shift into gear, put it in park, turned off the jeep, then didn't want to start, after 3rd try it started and shifted into gear. Drove it for about 2 miles, parked at a store, let it set for 20 mins, first try didn't want to start, second try it did. Been driving fine for the past couple days. Having a vehicle randomly shift into neutral while driving is a major safety issue.
Was at car wash car was in neutral after wash finished car wouldn’t go in drive then service transmission light came on I turned car off and it started back up but running funny and that service transmission light came back on
PTU Failure
This is a 2014 Jeep Cherokee, this model DOES have a recall for water leaking in through the truck. That causes the electronic parking break module to short out and lock the parking brake in as engaged. My jeeps vin however is not a part of the recall for some reason, this part was replaced on 4/16/22. Today 3/9/2023 the parking brake engaged and was locked on when we put the car in park. The spare tire compartment is FULL of water, everything in the trunk was wet. And the piece from the service advisor that was replace in 2022 has water in it, and it is corroded.
Service shifter message requiring replacement of the bevel. Once repaired for $540 still appearing and needs to be replaced.
When starting again and driving in Slidell Louisiana only 70458 car is making loud noises from console radio network seems as if it's a tracking device linking into my car causing it to break gas is just draining starting Is loud just went to jeep in Nola jeep Xtreme on 29th all was fine seems as if there plugging in broke cars or trucks on my car. Driving on the highway early morning and I was switching lanes and all the emergency lights on the dashboard came on. There was still power but I could not move forward with using the gas pedal nor use the break to come to a full stop once I was near the emergency lane. I was in the fast lane and had no way to keep using the gas pedal to get out of traffic. The drivers behind me as well as myself were luckily not hit due to know possible way to quickly move out of the way since I had no way of accelerating to move out of traffic, I could only coast in 70 mph freeway. It was towed to a Richfield Service company and it was determined it was the transmission valve body. There were not other symptoms of the problem prior, no warning lamps, messages, nothings.
My transmission was replaced in 2019 under recall and replaced with the the same faulty transmission. It has failed again. Why would they not warranty the same faulty transmission when it fails again? You wouldn’t replace a bad kidney with a bad kidney. This makes no sense.
I started the vehicle and started to drive. The gear slid to park and stop in the middle of the road. An indicator said to check transmission. After pushing it off the road, the next day is driving again. All the check engine sign went off.
I bought this new and when I had 99k miles, the transmission went out. I received a notice that this transmission had a class action lawsuit against Chrysler. I took it to Southpoint Dodge in Austin Texas. Where I purchased it. They argued with me for weeks but finally agreed to replace the transmission. The new transmission only has 27k miles and is having the same transmission problem again.
When I bought has brake problem have extended warranty and all Protections on place bucking after starting at 1 to 5 then when stooping. Lights panel seems not correct not illimious one lighting panels to see going on and off 2 times mileage is broken I recorded mileage to fro. Work only 20 miles incorrect values sense I bought .
My 4WD light came on at the end of August 2024. Was told I needed to order a part - RL307402AI PTO unit. Was told I cannot drive my car much until I get the part. It is now December 6, 2024 and part is still not in. Was told there is over 3,000 people waiting for this part.
As of this date: Started about a year ago, when Jeep was over 150,000 miles. When accelerating to turn or from a stop sign or light, vehicle would stall, mimicking the feeling the vehicle ran out of gas. This occurred about once a month. Working at home and not driving my vehicle as much its hard to say if it would have occurred more often. Checked for any codes, none appeared. As I have recently started driving back in the office 3 days a week, the issue of stalling at any given time with no warning began occurring more often. Took it to trusted local service shop, they changed the purge valve pump and gas cap, as they were puzzled on the problem. Did not seem to matter if gas was full, half or under half. Service 4WD light is constantly on while driving. The Jeep is at over 112,000 miles. My mechanic did a diagnostic check and the code that was provided was C14A7-97 PTU Motor-Component or System Operation Obstructed or Blocked. I checked with the Jeep dealership for a possible recall and gave my VIN number. There are no current recalls. For 2014-2017 Jeep Cherokees where the PTU has not been previously replaced, the auto maker’s recall number is W47 and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)’s recall campaign number is 20V343. At the current moment I’m scared to drive this car. I drive my elderly mother and kids in this car. If these problems are due to a recall I need my car fixed by Jeep. They are the only ones that know how to handle this situation.
I start my car up and try to drive off and it would say shift gear into something then won’t let me leave the car is jerking hard or hesitation I get up to a certain speed it would just shut off or if I stop at a stop light it will shut off the engine but still have the acc on
My climate control module (part number 68103284AJ which is now discontinued by mopar) went out, this was caused by simply changing the battery, since I had a dead battery. Here is the fun part, now I do not have ac/heat. It does not turn on. Which is very hazardous if it’s snowing or any type of cold weather since there is no way to defrost the windshield. I live in Colorado, so I haven’t been able to drive my car in any sort of cold weather. Also, I cannot pass an emissions test because of this module being out- I have documentation. Passing an emissions test is required by the state of Colorado in order to register my vehicle. So I cannot register my vehicle and I cannot legally drive my car on the roads of Colorado until I register, so I this point my Jeep is potentially worthless. I...
Jeep has failed to fix recall 23V-338 after 9 months. I called the manufacturer today (2/5/2024) at the number you have listed on your recall page (800-853-1403) and they were totally unable to supply any information other than the recall is still open and they have NO anticipated repair date at this time.. Jeep has NOT responded in a timely manner and I have waited 9 months which is more than enough time to get this fixed.
When gas pedal is pressed starting from a stop, the jeep doesn’t move right away, then jerks forward. Also, when driving, it sounds like the automatic gear is not shifting up, sounds like the jeep is “reving up”. Check engine light keeps coming on, then I loose power.
there is currently a recall, U90, on my jeep. this recall causes high emissions. my vehicle will not pass department of motor vehicles with high emissions. there is a back order for the part that will fix the recall. the recall has also caused codes to come on, which can lead to other malfunctions. if malfunctions due to this recall while i am driving it can be harmful to myself and others.
Recall 49A/NHTSA 23V-338 I cannot park my vehicle in my garage until there is a fix. I received the recall notice Jun 30, 2023 (three months ago) and there is still no fix!!! When will this be remedied???
There is 3 things going on with this Jeep. First thing the service shifter is on. Second the power steering will go out and come back on at different times. Lastly if you shut the car off it may not start again for awhile and you will get a message on the dash that says engine to warm to start. I contacted Jeep they said to take it in. We aren’t in a position to just Let them keep running diagnostics on our car we have a code reader and it is not throwing any codes. Our Jeep started acting up after they did the one recall On it.
On or about May 11th I received a notice of a recall on my vehicle. This recall notified me that my car could catch fire due to a faulty liftgate. The notice stated that there is no remedy available at this time so they recommended that I do not park near other vehicles or near any buildings. With safety being a concern, I reached out to the dealership that I purchased the vehicle from (Carmax) to see if they could help me in getting a rental vehicle or a loaner vehicle, so that I could drive safely without any concerns until the recall is fixed. They refused to help me, stating that they did not manufacturer the vehicle so I had to reach out to the manufacturer for any assistance. Due to the Safety Recall 49A - I am told that I am to leave my vehicle parked nowhere near buildings or other vehicles as there is a fire safety concern with vehicles catching fire whether or not the ignition is on. I called the Mopar line, and was not that it was not urgent and to take it to my Jeep dealership to have it examined to determine if I needed a rental - even though the recall states that it's to be parked due to a FIRE SAFETY concern. The dealership says they were never given information on what was needing fixed so they wouldn't know what to look for - I call Mopar back. My 2014 Jeep Cherokee Impreza is stalling and lurching from a stop position as I press the excelerator to enter a street. This is especially problematic since I have to enter a Highway ( Oregon Coastal Highway 101) from a stop position turning right to go into town.This has been a problem for approximately 1.5 years and is a safety issue that could result in a fatal accident and is becoming more frequent.
The Emergency Parking Brake engages on its own, and the car can not move forward. The car engine fails and stalls, the vehicle can not be shifted, and I have a loss of steering control. Dash reads error of parking brake needs service, power steering is out, and check engine light comes on. The car won't restart for approximately 1 hour and then turns over and starts. This problem happens intermittently with no warning. It has happened both when parked and moving. I have had the vehicle in at a Jeep dealership but they were unable to diagnosis. My 2014 Jeep Cherokee is impacted by the 49A Safety Recall for Power Liftgate Module, for which there is no remedy. I've been advised by Jeep's recall not to park inside, or park near a structure, or park near other vehicles as the vehicle can catch on fire, whether driving it or not. These requirements make my vehicle useless. I have called Jeep and was told I also cannot trade it in during a recall. I asked about compensation, or their providing transportation until a remedy is available, and was told that's not possible. This Jeep is obviously not safe and Jeep is not providing any solutions.
While driving, at any speed, for any length of time (sometimes minutes, sometimes hours) the car will act like it is shifting to neutral, no matter how fast I am traveling, it’s happened at 10 mph and up. It’s random, no rhyme or reason. It has been in 4 shops since November and does not code for errors. No one has found the issue. It is unsafe as it will redline the rpm, make the accelerator useless, and the only cure is to drop the car into neutral and abruptly stop. This can lead to a serious accident as there is not time to come to a safe stop or pull over safely on certain roads. My car shuts off while driving and idling. I have taken it to a shop and they could not find anything wrong with it. I have also taken it to a dealership, it is on its third time in 6 months being there. They have gotten the car to shut off while driving it, but they do not know what is wrong with it, as there are no codes populating. I have put $2000 into this for issues that are not correcting the actual problem. This is a safety hazard, as I have almost been hit multiple times, because it is stalling out. Pulling out of a parking spot and the vehicle just went into neutral and died.
Body control module failed at 59,XXX miles. Vehicle could not read gears and wouldn't shift into gear. The second time the vehicle wouldn't shut off and continued to stay in run. Vehicle failed to read the right gear while driving. First warning light was service parking brake and service transmission. After that no warning lamps. After inspection the BCM failed and is a discontinued part for the vehicle. Was repaired at the dealer and 7 days later the vehicle failed with same issues and is currently undrivable. Purchased in Feb 16th 2023 and have had it on the road for 30 days total.
My Parking break became stuck ON and would not turn off. A warning light came on to service the parking brake. The car would not move. Upon inspection of the EPB module, it was wet, with corrosion, to the point where water can be heard in the module unit. That area of the rear of the car was also wet. My car will not drive and I will be taking it to a Jeep dealership shortly.
The vehicle keeps loosing power, everything has been tested battery wise it not the battery. It’s acting like it’s not getting fuel. This started 3/28/23, between 40 and 60 vehicle shakes and is hesitant to go. Vehicle will jerk badly and clunk. While the check engine light starts flashing. When codes are check they are for power loss & failure.
The body seam is leaking causing floor board in front and rear to have puddles of water in the floor, and mold. I'm on oxygen. This is not safe at all. Also the rear Mopar had to be replaced cause of park brake failure. This needs to be recalled asap. It's happening on a lot of your jeep cheerokees. Thank you

My Jeeps Transmission is going into Neutral while I'm driving in the freeway I'm unable to accelerate and at times have lost power in the freeway and it restarts when I put into park or turn it off. when I place on park or turn off, the system restarts. I had a recall supposedly fixed for this issue back in 2016 but the problem restarted again several years ago. I took the jeep to Norco Jeep in California in December 2022 and they stated they would "email Chrysler" and I have sent 3 follow up messages and no replies or responses. ive had my cherokee for over a year now, the transmission in it isnt great. Shifts funny alot. (hard shifts, late shifts). I was driving on a back road and after a sharp curve where i had to slow down. After exiting the curve i tried to speed up and the transmission jerks so hard it nearly sent me into the opposite lane with incoming traffic. its happened serveal time now over the last year. I have taken it to the dealership to have it look at. Recently every time I fill my car with gas it continuously stalls out of no where afterward then after driving it for a while it will be ok until I need gas again. The car only has 30,000 miles on it and my mechanic said the battery in brand new and the alternator is fine??? This almost caused a major accident pulling out on a 3 lane highway into traffic.
Service Shifter warning keeps going on. The car's transmission went out at 74,000 miles and I paid for a brand new OEM transmission. 20,000 miles later on the new transmission, it has service shifetr red lights on like other 2014 & 015 Jeep but mine doesn't show as part of that recall
The transmission SWC 4WD light is on. When brought to Jeep they are saying the part PTO unit is on back order and they will not assist me to fix the car. I have researched and the 2014 3.2 liter engine with 4wheel drive has faulty PTO unit and approximately 100,000 have experienced this problem. I am 75 with a low mileage car and need help.
Everytime i put m y car in reverese, back up, stop, and then put my car in Drive mode, the car will just stall out, The whole car turns off, Occasionaly, the car will not even shift and will be stuck in Reverse. When that happens, i am unable to turn the car and obisouly i am not able to restart the car. I then have to initatite the emergency brake, then wait sometimes up to an hour. Then try to shift the care to park to restart the car. Then once i restart the car it appears the car works just fine until next time i reverse.

My vehicle will shift roughly, sometimes surging before switching gears. This is more pronounced after refueling. Additionally, sometimes immediately after refueling, the vehicle will sputter and die when trying to pull away from the pump. Attempting to turn it back on may take a few tries before its successful. The battery light may come on, but the battery has been confirmed as not the issue. Having my vehicle shut down mid drive after fueling to where I can't steer it or move it out of the way is extremely unsafe! I just took it to the dealership. They completed a recall involving a powertrain software update, but did have any explanation for why my car would randomly die after getting gas.
