The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while his girlfriend was driving at an undisclosed speed, the power steering assist warning light illuminated, and the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The contact stated that assistance was needed for the driver to steer the vehicle into a parking space. The driver restarted the vehicle however, the vehicle did not regain power steering functionality. The vehicle remained in the parking space. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 94,000.
While driving on the interstate, the power steering on the car suddenly stopped working and has not come on since. This was a major issue as I was driving 80 mph on the interstate and had trouble steering after it gave out. After taking this to the Ford Dealership I was told that it would be a $3,100 fix. There were not any warning signs before this event and the car had been in perfect condition.
The steering wheel attachment bolt has not maintained torque. As a result, the steering wheel has loosened over time. I fear the steering wheel may separate from the steering column shaft, increasing the risk of a crash while driving.
Vehicle suddenly lost power steering and warning messages appeared about "steering assist fault" and "service AdvanceTrac". Dealer diagnosed the issue as a failed electric power steering rack but claimed the issue was not covered by recalls. These two Ford recalls appear to describe the exact scenario: 19S26 (19V-632) & 15S14 (15V-250)
I was driving my car and my power steering assist fault came on and the steering wheel locked up. If I would have been turning at the time I would have wrecked. The vehicle had to be towed to the Ford dealership. Since I have on the car the light has came on a couple times but immediately turns off. It is at the dealership where they are telling me it is $2400 to fix.
While on vacation in NW Ohio my power assist failure light came on and I lost my power steering. It was terribly hard to turn and scared me. My sister looked up to see if there were recalls on my 2013 Ford Fusion SE for this problem as we were together and found 17 recalls and over 1500 complaints for this same car year and problem but my VIN was not listed. My VIN needs to be included and I should be reimbursed. This malfunction happened on Sat afternoon July 17, 2021. I got my car into Taylor Kia dealership on Monday on July 19, 2021. My friend is the Sales Mgr. there and got my car in and gave me a loaner to use. they checked for recalls too but none found. It had to be fixed so I told the service dept to go ahead. The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the steering wheel started jerking, and the steering was difficult to control. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the steering gear was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.
Vehicle sporadically (more so on cool/cold mornings) receives an error light on the dash indicating problem with power steering/traction control and hill assist. When this occurs, vehicle loses power steering. Very dangerous if unexpected and traveling at higher speeds. Ford is aware of this problem and has issued TSBs. Does there have to be fatalities and law suits before something is done? Consumer should not have to pay $2200+ to repair a problem occurring across multiple vehicle years and models.
Last night when I got in my car to come home from work. When I turned on my car I got this message "Steering Locked Pull Over Safely". My Mother researched what would cause that to come up. One of the problems that she found was low tire pressure. She went around and checked all the tires and they where inflated to the right PSI. She even made sure that there was no screws or nails that would cause then to go flat. She also hooked up the ODB-2 Scanner to the car to make sure that it wasn't what was causing the issue. There wasn't any codes that popped up. We unhooked the battery and left it unhooked about 30 minutes that didn't correct the issue either. When she called the Ford dealer by our house they told me it would cost me around $2000.00 To fix the issue....
Power Steering went out, jerked steering wheel. Vehicle no longer has steering. My VIN is not part of the recall like other models. Vehicle is now a lawn ornament.
Power sreering failure. No warning. Just randomly occurs. Steering wheel locks up and driver in unable to steer the car. HUGE safety issue! Seems ti be a common problem after researching the Internet.
The power steering went out as I was driving my car. I got an alert of 'power assist fault' and 'service advance track' when driving in the rain. The vehicle became very hard to turn which put me at risk of crashing. This has been a widespread problem with 2013 Ford Fusions and many have been recalled. My VIN number was not included in the recall. This happened a few months after purchasing my car brand new as well. The vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer. There were no warning signs before this.
Power steering was lost. Fuse and belt is still okay.
I have had a few incidents where my car displays "power steering assist fault" and the steering gets tight and my car will just stop running. This has occurred multiple times since I purchased my vehicle last summer. One time it occurred on the Turnpike while going at a speed of approximately 70mph and it has also occurred just after I had turned my car on to back out of the driveway. It has also occurred while going 25 in town. Luckily every time I was able to pull over safely each time. I took the car to a dealer just a few weeks ago but they looked at it one day and could not duplicate the problem. It happens randomly so just my luck it did not occur when someone was inspecting it.
Loss of power steering fault system
MY FAMILY AND I DROVE TO THE BEACH AND WE PARKED. THEN WHEN WERE DRIVING HOME ON THE FREEWAY I LOST POWER IN THE STEERING WHEEL. IT TOOK ALL MY STRENGTH/ MUSCLE TO KEEP CONTROL OF CAR. THAT IS WHEN A LIGHT CAME ON. I MANAGED TO GET HOME AT THAT POINT WE PULLED OUT THE MANUAL TO LOOK UP THE SYMBOL. IT TOO ABOUT 1 HOUR ALONG WITH THE INTERNET JUST TO FIGURE THAT IT WAS THE POWER ASSISTED SYSTEM. IT STATED THAT THE STEERING WOULD BE WITH OUT POWER AND COULD POTENTIAL LOSE CONTROL ALL TOGETHER. WE IMMEDIATELY CALLED TO HAVE IT TOWED FROM HOME TO DEALER AFTER LOOKING UP RECALLS I NOTICED THEIR WAS A RECALL FOR THE SAME THING THAT HAPPEN TO ME BUT ON THE EAST COAST. HOWEVER MY VIN NUMBER SAID MY CAR WAS NOT PART OF THAT RECALL. BUT THE YEAR MAKE MODEL...
WHILE COMING OFF THE HIGHWAY MY HILL START ASSIST, ADVANCED TRACT, AND STEERING FAILED. I ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR. ALSO, THE LINKAGE FOR THE SHIFTER KEEPS COMING UNDONE.

WHILE DRIVING WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON SAYING THAT THERE WAS A STEERING PROBLEM. MANY OTHER LIGHTS CAME ON IN TURN AND I PULL OFF THE ROAD WITH IT BEING EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. I HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE GARAGE AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE OVER $2,000 TO REPAIR. I HAVE DONE SOME CHECKING AND FOUND THAT THERE MAY BE A RECALL IN THE WORKS 15V250000 BECAUSE OF STEERING PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT COULD LEAD TO MANY DEATHS. I THINK FORD SHOULD PAY TO HAVE THIS VEHICLE REPAIRED AND NOT THE OWNER.

THE POWER STEERING RACK HAD AN INTERNAL FAILURE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND PARKED. WENT FROM WORKING JUST FINE TO COMPLETELY SHUTTING OFF WHILE PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY.
AS SOON AS I STARTED IT THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT LIGHT CAME ON. THEN THE COOLANT OVERHEATING WARNING CAME ON AND DE RATED THE VEHICLE. THEN I SHUT IT OFF. WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY

RANDOMLY I WILL GET THE SERVICE ADVANCETRAC, HILLSTART ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE, AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS. IT WILL BE HARD TO STEER FOR A FEW MINUTES, SOMETIMES IT WILL SHAKE A LITTLE, AND THEN THE PROBLEM WILL GO AWAY AND IT WILL RUN FINE. I LIVE IN FLORIDA SO I'M NOT DEALING WITH ANY HILLS OR SNOW, AND I DON'T DRIVE MY CAR IN THE RAIN. COMPLETELY DRY AND FLAT ROADS, AND IT STILL HAPPENS. TURNED ON CAR AND PUT INTO DRIVE THEN SEVERAL WARNINGS CAME ON AND I LOST CONTROL OF STEERING.
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT WENT OUT WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION ON A HIGHWAY. IT STILL STEERS BUT WITH MUCH EFFORT AND WITH SLOW RESPONSE.
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT
MY 2013 FORD FUSION IS EXPERIENCING POWER STEERING LOSS. I HAVE EXPERIENCED STEERING LOSS AT START UP, ON THE ROAD DRIVING, MID-TURNING, AND WHEN I HIT A SMALL BUMP OR ROCKY SURFACE. THE MESSAGES THAT APPEAR INCLUDE 'POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT AND SERVICE ADVANCETRAK'. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS A COMMON OCCURRENCE AMONG FORDS WITH ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING AND WAS QUOTED $2000 TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN. AFTER SENDING MY VEHICLE IN TO A FORD DEALERSHIP 8+ TIMES, I FINALLY GAVE UP AND REQUESTED FOR A REFUND. RESEARCH SHOWS THAT FORD RECALLED A NUMBER OF VEHICLES INCLUDING THE SAME NAME AND MODEL AS MY 2013 FORD FUSION, HOWEVER MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I THINK FORD MANUFACTURER NEEDS TO EXPAND THEIR RECALL REGIONS TO INCLUDE ALL THOSE WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THIS SAME ISSUE. MY VEHICLE IS TOO YOUNG AND DOES NOT HAVE MORE THAN 105,000 MILES...

GOT IN CAR TO START AND DRIVE TO WORK. DASHBOARD LIT UP WITH WARNINGS ON STEERING SYSTEM FAILURE, FORWARD ANTICOLLISION SYSTEM FAILURE AND ANTISKID SYSTEM FAILURE. VEHICLE HAS LOST POWER STEERING AND UNABLE TO DRIVE.
STEERING WHEEL IS LOOSE.
ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, DRIVING AT SPEEDS OVER 60MPH FOR MORE THAN 50 MILES, CAUSES A SYSTEM ALERT THAT SAYS STEERING ASSIST FAULT AND THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT. THE FIRST TIME I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER BEFORE THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. THE NEXT TIME, MY BOYFRIEND WAS DRIVING AND HE HAD TO VEER ONTO THE SHOULDER. MOST RECENTLY, MY GRANDMOTHER DROVE MY CAR TO THE AIRPORT AND WAS UNABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE OUT OF TRAFFIC TURNING INTO THE AIRPORT AS SHE WAS NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO MANEUVER THE CAR INTO THE PARKING LOT. I REGULARLY KEEP UP WITH ALL NECESSARY MAINTENANCE AND HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR TO MODICA BROTHERS AS WELL AS A LOCAL MECHANIC AND THEY HAVE BOTH TOLD ME IT IS BOLT CORROSION AS THEY ASSESSED ALL OTHER POSSIBILITIES. UPON RESEARCH, I FOUND A RECALL FOR FORD FUSIONS MANUFACTURED IN HERMOSILLO IN 2013 UNDER RECALL...
WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT A SLOWER SPEED AROUND TURNS GOING UPHILL THE POWER STEERING ASSIST CONTROL LIGHT FLASHES ON AND THEN BACK OFF. IT HAS DONE THIS AT LEAST 5 TIMES
I HAD A RECAL DONE FOR MY POWER STEERING IN 2015 BY A FORD DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THE REPAIRS WERE HONORED FOR LIFE. HOWEVER, LAST FRIDAY 09/04/20 I WAS DRIVING MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN AND MY DASHBOARD ALERTED ME TO KNOW I HAD LOST POWER STEERING AND TO CONTACT MY DEALER. MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND HAD I NOT STOPPED IMMEDIATELY I COULD HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND POTENTIALLY LOST MY LIFE. ONCE STOPPED THE ICON FOR POWER STEERING FAILURE REMAINED. I LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE AND IMMEDIATELY SLAMMED ON MY BRAKES TO AVOID GETTING T BONED IN A BUSY INTERSECTION. I HAD A FAMILY FRIEND TOW MY CAR TO MY HOME. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE PULLED TO THE LEFT WHILE DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. WHILE RELEASING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE VEHICLE PULLED TO THE RIGHT BUT MUCH HARDER. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS MORE NOTICEABLE WHILE DRIVING AT SLOWER SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE LOCAL DEALER HAGEN FORD LOCATED AT 3980 NORTH EUCLID AVE, BAY CITY MI 48706 AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 109,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON STARTING HER VEHICLE, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST AND THE SERVICE ADVANCE TRACK WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT HER HIGH BEAMS AND HER TURN SIGNALS NO LONGER OPERATED AS DESIGNED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V250000 (STEERING). THE DEALER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.
IISSUE 1) PUT THE BACK SEAT DOWN TO GET INTO TRUNK AND IT WONT GO BACK UP DUE TO THE SEAT BELTS ISSUE. BECAUSE I DONT REALLY USE THE BACK SEAT, I HAVENT BOTHERED TO GET IT FIXED AND PAY FOR IT OUT OF MY POCKET. 2) DRIVING OVER 55 MPH, CAR LOST POWER STEERING. I SEE OTHERS HAVE HAD SAME ISSUES WITH THESE 2 COMPONENTS OF THE 2013 FUSION, YET NO RECALL. THIS MAKES NO SENSE TO ME.
WAS DRIVING DOWN INTERSTATE AND STEERING QUIT. WAS GOING STRAIGHT AND MANAGED TO CONTINUE. CHECKED AND FOUND THERE WERE RECALLS BUT FORD DEALER SAID IT DIDN'T COVER MY VEHICLE. PAID $1200.00 TO REPAIR AND STILL HAVE A HARD CLUNK WHEN I STEER LEFT OR RIGHT. CURRENTLY DRIVING AND HEARD NOISE FROM FUEL TANK AND DETERMINED A CANISTER PURGE VALVE MALFUNCTION. SAW THERE MAY BE A RECALL BUT ALSO HAVEN'T FOUND IT FOR MY CAR. CAN YOU UPDATE ME ON POSSIBLE RECALLS IF ANY APPLY?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE SERVICE POWER STEERING SOON WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT PARKED AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE WITH THE SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE CONTACT CALLED LOCAL EDDIE GILSTRAP MOTORS INC LOCATED AT 207 S MAIN ST, SALEM, IN 47167, (812) 883-3481, AND INFORMED THE DEALER OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,200.
WHILE DRIVING THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON THE VEHICLE. IT IS BELIEVED TO BE RELATED TO AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE THAT SHUTS DOWN ALL WINDOWS, AC/HEAT, BLINKERS, GAUGES AND RADIO. SEVERAL MODULES, INCLUDING THE POWER STEERING MODULE WERE REPLACED BY OUR MECHANIC AND IT DID NOT SOLVE THE ISSUE. A FORD TECH LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE AND COULD NOT FIND THE ISSUE EITHER. WE HAVE NOT HAD POWER STEERING FOR APPROX 2 MONTHS. THE OTHER ELECTRICAL ISSUES OCCUR DAILY.
