Turn signal prematurely cancels intermittently, in middle of turn or prior to starting turn. This is after the signal stalk switch has been locked into the continuous on position, not the momentary position. The slightest movement of the steering wheel back away from the direction of turn will induce this. Not a full 1/8 of a turn back, but a very minute amount, as little as 1 or 2 degrees of steering movement. This is a known issue by the manufacturer, as they have service bulletin instructions for dealership technicians to reprogram the steering column signal switch, however, this repair is cost prohibitive at dealership rates. It is a safety concern, as the signal sometimes cancels without immediate driver awareness, as attention is being focused outside. This should be a recall repair covered by the manufacturer.
In March of 2024 I discovered that the passenger side front turn signal was not working. I assumed it was the bulb so I replaced it but the turn signal still failed to work. I took the vehicle to the Ford dealer where the vehicle was purchased new. Upon inspection, it was determined that a control module was the cause of the issue. I was informed that Ford no longer made the control module and the dealer would reach out to a vendor that sells used control modules for my vehicle. After several modules were obtained from a third party vendor, none of the modules would work for my vehicle. It was explained to me by the service advisor at the dealership that none of the modules were a match for my vehicle but with no clear explanation why. The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed at night, the low-beam headlamps failed to adequately illuminate the roadway. The contact activated the high-beam headlights to see the roadway. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and Auto Zone Auto Parts, where the headlamp bulbs were replaced several times; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V553000 (Exterior Lighting) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000.
Although this vehicle is 10 years old it has only logged less than 17k miles (near new condition). A few months back it was noted that the backlighting on the console, steering wheel, interior door panels and overhead console were inoperative under non-daylight conditions. At night, it's driving blind from an instrumentation perspective. Controls cannot be located as they cannot be seen. This backlighting has a mind of its own. Upon entering the vehicle all the lighting in question lights up and then times out (?) Activating outside lighting (headlights) when you expect and need the backlighting, it just isn't there. Disconnecting the battery for 12 hours (reboot) did nothing to solve the problem. Personally, I believe the slap-happy lighting engineers went way overboard with warning and flashing lights on this vehicle. The lighting in question is there, not just when needed. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON STARTING HER VEHICLE, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST AND THE SERVICE ADVANCE TRACK WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT HER HIGH BEAMS AND HER TURN SIGNALS NO LONGER OPERATED AS DESIGNED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V250000 (STEERING). THE DEALER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.
MY CAR WAS APART OF THE HEADLIGHT RECALL IN 2013. AFTER THE FIX THE DRIVER HEADLIGHT WAS NEVER THE SAME. RECENTLY THAT DRIVER HEADLIGHT WENT OUT WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. TO CHANGE A HEADLIGHT IT COSTS $30 PER BULB AND THEN A COUPLE OF HOURS OF TIME TO REMOVE/REPLACE THE BUMPER AT $160 AN HOUR. IN MY CASE, IT WASN'T THE BULB BUT THE BODY MODULE CONTROL WHICH HANDLES ALL THE LIGHTING IN MY CAR. THE HEADLIGHT IS SUPPOSED TO BE AT 12 VOLTS, BUT WAS AT A 9 VOLTS AND I'M TOLD IT FINALLY SHORTED. I THINK THIS HAS TO DO WITH THE HEADLIGHT REPAIR DONE YEARS AGO. THIS ENDED UP BEING A $1000 REPAIR. FOR A HEADLIGHT THIS IS A TERRIBLE BUILD FOR CONSUMERS.
