Power Steering Assist Failure while driving. Problem is intermittent but persistent and can happen suddenly. It nearly caused me to go off the road when it happened while going around a curve. If it happens suddenly it is extremely hard to steer and could definitely end up in an accident. I have not had it inspected yet by a mechanic. No warning lights appeared before the failure but when it happened the message read "Power Steering Assist Failure"
My vehicle steering has failed/is failing. While driving I had intermittent loss of power steering and a knocking noise when turning the wheel in any direction which has been confirmed by my local ford dealer. They have stated that the electric rack and pinion is the issue. I didn’t receive any notification on my dashboard. It seems this is an ongoing problem with my year vehicle in other states.
The power steering failed on the highway. The Ford dealer quoted $3,000 to repair the power steering.

While driving my vehicle into the garage, I placed the car into the P(park) gear and the car continued to roll. I had to hit the emergency break to stop the vehicle. The fuel line keeps cracking although it has been replaced multiple times causing gas to be leaking from the vehicle even after filling the car up.

The steering gear failed while driving and I had a total loss of power steering. I had no warning when this fault occurred, and the only warning came after the event. The original part that malfunctioned is not available for inspection, nor was it inspected by any other agency prior to its replacement. Loss of power steering while driving is incredibly dangerous, thankfully no accident occurred due to this failure.
Power Steering warning light came on while I was driving. I was still able to steer the car. After I shut the car off and turned it back on I could barely steer the car. The warning light came on again. I left the car at a nearby garage, but they are closed until Jan 2, because of the holiday. I could have gotten into an accident. Other vehicles were flashing their lights and honking as I had to drive very slowly with my hazards on to get to the repair station. This is truly a safety issue with my 2013 Ford Fusion.
My 2013 Ford Fusion experienced an electronic powered steering failure recently. It is my belief that this was due to an incorrect, incomplete, and ultimately unsafe repair to the affected system. From my research this model and year has experienced significant issues and failures of the "steering gearbox" even after the recall from Manufacturer Campaign Number: 19S26. Failures of the steering gearbox leading to an abrupt failure of the power steering system in the vehicle is not only incredibly dangerous but subsequently an issue what was not fully resolved by the organization. This vehicle has many foundational safety concerns that are a result of cheap and incomplete repairs revealing weaknesses in sustainable practices and beliefs held by the organization. When the issue arose it was abrupt and without warning initially. The vehicle is very difficult to control even at higher speeds with the failure of the electronic power steering gear...

The power steering was never a problem. I came back from a concert and tried to drive my car home and out of no where my hazards turn on, thought I just accidentally touched the button but that wasn't the case. A few seconds later the service power steering light came on and wouldn't stop making noise but I made it home okay. And then the next day when I started it, it didn't want to move at all and the message on the screen came back up and made a more urgent sound I guess you'd say, but there was never anything wrong with my car, it just stopped working in the middle of me driving home. My VIN number is [XXX] it just wouldn't let me put it in the other box. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Steering assist failed all most crashed Cause unknown
The power steering assist failed, and every ford dealer is refusing to fix it as a recall when it has been recalled. It is extremely unsafe to drive the car like this.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that over the past few months, the steering wheel had become loosened and would move abnormally while driving at various speeds without warning. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was referred to a dealer for assistance. The contact notified the dealer of the failure and was referred to the manufacturer. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V632000 (Steering). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
My vehicle has every problem that has been reported and recalled, however my vehicle isn't listed on the recall list. Could this be a mistake? Could my vehicle oddly have all the same engine coolant levels, advance trac, power steering, engine overheating issues, as the ones recalled but not actually been recalled?
I was traveling with my family and a light came on the dash. I pulled over to check my manual and it said it was a power steering fault. Once I started my car again the power steering was completely gone and I had to drive 10 hours back home with no power steering which was extremely hard for someone who has never driven a vehicle like that. I seen online there was a recall for 23 ford fusions but of course mine isn’t on the list. I found 177 complaints on this and I don’t understand why this is not a recall. If this had happened while driving I could have been seriously injured or killed or harmed another life. Please take that into consideration!

The steering locked up 2 times. Had I been driving when this happened it could have caused a serious accident. The problem has not been inspected by anyone at this time. I received a Steering Assist Malfunction message both times when starting my vehicle. After shutting the car off and waiting a little while and then starting the car back up the message is no longer there and the steering seems to be fine. But again if this happens when Im driving it, it could result in a serious accident.

2.when it came on this time it said “Power steering assist fault” see manual then shut completely off on me. I cranked it back up and it ran for about 30 seconds and shut off again. I cranked it up again and the wrench illuminated and stayed on so I drove it home and parked it Sunday. Now I am bringing it in to you all. It seems to be some serious power/electric issues going on with this car.
Recall issued by Ford 15S14 stating "If the bolts corrode, the steering gear motor may detach from the gear housing resulting in a loss of power steering assist. Loss of power steering assist would require a higher steering effort, especially at lower speeds, which may increase the risk of a crash." This recall was performed July 8th 2015 at Twin Hills Ford dealership at approximately 30k miles. This exact same problem has happened again at approximately 60k miles and though talking with Ford they will not admit fault to a poorly designed steering motor with an identically poorly designed safety recall solution. This is a safety issue that I feel I should not have to pay upwards of 2500 to repair. Especially after the "solution to the safety hazard" has been performed. This issue puts others in danger and was not adequately resolved.
Went to turn the car on and the message "power steering assist fault" kept blinking on the dashboard. Luckily wasn't driving or this could have turned into an accident. Sat in the car for a couple minutes and turned the car off and on. Message didn't appear again, but I'm nervous to drive longer distances than the 6 mile trip from my place of work to my house. I've read that there is a recall on other fusions in the same year as mine. However, I don't know if the VIN is included. I think they need to 1.) send out a notice to all fusions of that year for a recall and 2.) include other VINs in this recall. I now am nervous about driving this car and I plan on having this looked at by a Ford Dealership promptly. Please get this addressed.
Drove my car to work just fine and my wife got in it to go home and power steering assist fault light came on looked it up and found out that are vin is not recalled looked up how to fix it and there was at least 200 people that has the same issues that’s a lot more then the 23 recalls for that car
While driving, the vehicle flashed the "Service Power Steering" warning. After arriving at my next destination and restarting the vehicle, the alert changed to "Service Power Steering Now", and the power steering became completely unresponsive. According to the dealership, the power steering assist has failed and the entire rack and pinion assembly will need to be replaced, a roughly $2000 repair. After doing some research, this issue has resulted in recalls on other Fords, including Fusions, within the same year model, but not my specific VIN. And judging from the other feedback on NHTSA I'm not alone. It's quite apparent the recall needs to be expanded to include this model.
Car was parked in the driveway and when started after 4 days, a message came "Active Power Steering Assist Fault". Steering became too hard to operate. This could have happened while driving and would have resulted in a collision. There are recalls for the same issue for 2013 Fusions but not my VIN. I think this recall should be expanded to include more VINs as I am reading similar complaints. Vehicle only has 72000 miles on it.
November 1, 2021 I noticed that all of a sudden the warning light for power steering came on. I managed to get the car to the house and now the steering is locked. I have no remedy. I have been nervous about the car every since. I need my car repaired. The warning should come before all out failure! That’s not a warning it’s an ambush!!
The contact's daughter owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, excessive force was needed to steer the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V632000 (Steering) which he linked to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
