ON TWO SEPARATE ROAD TRIPS I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE 'DEATH WOBBLE' A VIOLENT SHAKING OF THE FRONT END THAT FEELS AS IF THE WHEELS ARE ABOUT TO COME OFF, IN EARLY DECEMBER 2020, IT HAPPENED AND I THOUGHT I HAD A BLOW OUT, BUT ONCE I GOT THE TRUCK PULLED OVER IT CHECKED OUT OK, SO I CONTINUED AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I TOOK TRUCK TO DEALER AND THEY REPLACED STEERING LINKAGE DAMPER. ON DEC. 29 ON ANOTHER HIGHWAY TRIP IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND ALMOST CAUSED A POSSIBLE FATAL CRASH WITH MY GRANDKIDS IN THE TRUCK.. TODAY JAN 6, 2021 TRUCK IS BACK AT THE DEALERSHIP. FYI THE MILEAGE IS 23,346. MY APOLOGIES IF THIS WAS SUBMITTED TWICE, WASN'T SURE IF IT WORKED LAST NIGHT.

THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE TRACK BAR COMING LOOSE AND CAUSING SPEED WOBBLE. I HAD IT REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AT ABOUT 35,000 MILES. NOW I'M AT ABOUT 41,000 MILES AND IT'S REALLY LOOSE AGAIN. IT CAUSES THE TRUCK TO SOMETIMES LOSE CONTROL. IT HAPPENED THE OTHER DAY WHEN ONLY GOING ABOUT 30 MILES AN HOUR. HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD AND THE WHOLE FRONT END STARTED VIBRATING OUT OF CONTROL. I HAD TO SLOW WAY DOWN TO REGAIN CONTROL. THE FORD DEALER CAN'T GET ME IN FOR REPAIR UNTIL JANUARY 12TH, 2021.

THE STEERING WHEEL WILL START OSCILLATING WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT, AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (APPROXIMATELY 65-75). THE STEERING WHEEL WILL START VIBRATING AND WILL TURN INTO WHAT HAS BEEN TERMED THE "DEATH WOBBLE". THE VEHICLE SHAKES SO BAD THAT THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE OSCILLATING IS TO SLOW DOWN TO 20-30 MPH. THE OSCILLATING HAPPENED WHEN HITTING EVEN THE SLIGHTEST UNEVEN PATCH ON THE HIGHWAY. IT HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE AS WELL AS LOCAL HIGHWAYS. SOME OF THESE ROADS HAVE VERY RECENTLY BEEN RECONDITIONED. HAD THERE BEEN OTHER VEHICLES OR TOWING, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY TO AVOID A WRECK AS THE OSCILLATION CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO WANT TO MOVE OFF TO ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER AND IS VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL.

WHILE DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 78 MPH (SPEED LIMIT 80 MPH) ON I-80 BETWEEN SALT LAKE CITY, UT AND WENDOVER, NV, I WENT OVER A ROUGH PATCH OF ROAD ON A TURN AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS SHAKING BACK AND FORTH RAPIDLY AND I WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN MY LANE THROUGH THE TURN. THE SHAKING CONTINUED UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO SLOW TO AROUND 20 MPH. IF THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN TRAFFIC AROUND ME I AM CONVINCED THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT. MY WIFE, 4 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND NEW BORN SON WAS IN THE VEHICLE. I SEARCHED NHTSA FOR A SAFETY RECALL ON THE STEERING FOR FORD SUPERDUTY PICKUPS BUT FOUND NOTHING BUT COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE HAS GONE INTO AN UNCONTROLLABLE FRONT END WOBBLE UPON HITTING ROUGH PAVEMENT ON THE INTERSTATE AT SPEEDS OF 70-75 MPH. THE WOBBLE CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY FOR APPROXIMATELY 3-6 SECONDS AND CAN ONLY BE STOPPED BY GRADUALLY REDUCING SPEED. STEERING IS NOT FUNCTIONAL DURING THE WOBBLE. THE FIRST TWO TIMES (OCTOBER 2019) THE VEHICLE WAS TOWING A TRAILER. THE LAST TWO TIMES (DECEMBER 2020) THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY TWO PASSENGERS IN THE CAB AND A FEW PIECES OF LUGGAGE IN THE BED OF THE TRUCK. IN MAY 2020 FORD INSTALLED A STEERING LINKAGE DAMPER TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THAT OBVIOUSLY DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM, AND FOLLOWING THE DECEMBER 2020 INCIDENTS, SUBSTANTIAL FRONT-END REPAIRS WERE REQUIRED. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 36K MILES ON IT.

THIS TIME IT REQUIRED ME TO SLOW DOWN AND STOP IN THE MEDIAN AREA OF THE HIGHWAY, WHICH CAUSED TRAFFIC TO SWERVE AWAY FROM HITTING ME. I WENT BACK TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY WOULD DO NOTHING ELSE TO CORRECT IT. THE DEATH WOBBLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED ON MY TRUCK WHICH NOW HAS 40,000 MILES ON IT AND IT IS BECOMING MORE FREQUENT.
