11/6/21 driving 65 mph on interstate. After hitting a bump in the road the truck experienced a severe shaking in the steering to the point that the truck wasn't maneuverable. I had to slow down to 45 mph for it to go away. It happened again about 20 minutes later and I had to go off the interstate to drop the speed below 55 mph. Supposedly this is a known problem but has never been recalled.
I have experienced the "Death Wobble" experienced by many during my internet research into the violent shaking and oscillation of the front wheels at speeds in excess of 50 MPH. The condition occurs routinely on approach and departure from bridges where the concrete slabs have subsided causing a "pothole" effect, on pavement patches, and potholes. The violent oscillation and shaking can cause temporary loss of control. I had to slow down to a dangerously low speed in congested interstate traffic for the conditon to subside.
My Ford has experienced Terrible steering wheel and front end shaking when traveling at speeds of over 55 mphs. I turned it into kinsel Ford at Beaumont tx for repairs on sept 20 and the shaking was fixed but has returned even more violently. Also known commonly only as the “death wobble “ affecting Ford f250’s
At about 45,000 miles on truck the death wobble shake in the steering started. Took to dealer and waited for steering damper. At 49,000 miles the steering damper was replaced by Ford. The wobble never completely stopped and At about 53,000 miles on truck it came back to what it was and is getting worse, at 57,000 miles on truck now it wobbles and shakes all the time over any little bump or uneven spots on the road. Ford is refusing to fix, even though their steering damper never fixed it.
Currently have experienced the "death wobble" for the third time. Ford dealer has fixed it twice and I have a current complaint that remains unresolved although my vehicle has an extended warranty and is well within that warranty period. 2017 F250 purchased new on 9/30/17. First occurrence in October 2019 with a trip to the dealer 11-7-19 (31,830 miles); dealer had the vehicle approximately 3 months before the repair was complete. Second occurrence in March 2020 with a trip to the dealer 4/15/20 (35,239 miles). Third occurrence on 9-30-2021 and 10-1-2021 and remains unaddressed by Ford and unsolved (62,500 miles). Dealerships are claiming excessive wait times to check out vehicles (4 to 8 weeks COVID is to blame from their perspective), meanwhile we have an unsafe vehicle that cannot and will not be driven until this is fixed. Death wobble. Lost all steering and control
We’ve been experiencing the Ford know “Deathwobble” since approximately 30,000 miles and we currently have 48,000. Ford has replaced the steering stabilizer at least two times and it reoccurs within 4,000 miles. I’ve spent countless hours online trying to remedy this problem. I recently replaced the drag link and the associated tie rod end (The OEM ones had minimal play but I wanted to rule out any possibilities), changed to a Bilstein steering stabilizer and 4 new Bilstein shocks. Unfortunately, on are recent 150 mile trip we had two terrifying Death Wobble experiences that we came very close both times having an accident. Today we were actually forced to go into highway median to avoid being pulled into other high speed traffic. I’m including pictures of the tire marks of this incident. This problem is very dangerous and frightening to have happen. Please help!

Death Wobble on numerous occasions. I first took it to Ford and put some "dampener" on it to fix it. I noticed that the truck still vibrated, but did not go into the death wobble immediately.4-5 months later, a worse death wobble started. It always happens when you hit a bridge abutment paving transition. The violent shaking does not stop until you slow way down. I have had to leave the road twice due to 18 wheelers behind me. It is so bad now, vehicles around me can see the violent shaking and move over and get away from me. This is an extremely dangerous event. If a younger driver freaks out and lets go of the steering wheel, deaths will be inevitable.
When driving at highway speeds and encountering a bump in the road, the steering wheel would begin to vibrate violently, nearly causing loss of control of the vehicle. This would happen nearly every time I would drive the vehicle at highway speeds. After a few time of this happening, the steering wheel started to have continuous slight side to side vibration even while driving on smooth surfaces. After multiple repairs at my expense ( replacing steering dampener twice, track bar and drag links), the problem still exists, and the manufacturer (Ford Motor Company) refuses to even acknowledge that the problem exists, much less correct the problem and reimburse for previous failed repairs.
The front end and steering wheel shake out of control when going over 50 MPH. I have to stop the truck to stop the shaking.
On 3-19-21 I was going to visit my daughter in TN. While driving on Interstate 81 I hit a bump and my Ford F250 experienced the infamous "death wobble". This happened out of the blue, with with no warning.This happened 2 more times and the oscillation was so intense that my truck bounced into the fast lane. So I called my daughter and asked her to call Ford dealers in Knoxville so I could get this fixed. She told me the internet said it is less likely to occur when driving slower so I dropped to 60 mph. I still had 3 more occurences. She contacted several dealerships and they had the part (a steering stabilizer shock) but would not schedule me in for 2-3 weeks. So she finally located a dealer in Sweetwater TN that could schedule me in but did not have the part. So I had to...
I have randomly experienced violent shaking of the steering wheel while driving, and have come close to striking vehicles in other lanes twice when this has happened. After discussing incident with co-workers that also own F250's they have experienced same issue which is also known as "Death Wobble". Apparently this is a common defect with Ford trucks and there has not been any recall done on this issue. My Truck has less than 45k miles on it, and I am concerned for my safety and my family's safety while driving this vehicle.
My truck has a front-end suspension shudder when I travel over 60 mph. I've been told it's the early stages of a condition known as the "Death Wobble". Over the last 3 months I've had the tires replaced 2 times and balanced numerous times to make sure the shudder is not caused by the tires. The tires are not the issue... it's a suspension problem. I became aware of the Death Wobble about a month ago. The Ford Dealerships are well aware of the issue. Ford issued a TSB (now expired) to replace the Steering Stabilizers. Ford's TSB - replacing the Steering Stabilizers - is a temporary solution. I believe the Death Wobble is a design defect with the Ford F-250, 350, 450 trucks, in particular those manufactured from 2017 to today. Ford has a known issue with a steering issue referred to as the death wobble Which causes the steering wheel to violently shake along with the front wheels shaking side to side until the vehicle is brought to a stop which is caused by hitting a bump in the road I do have a video of the steering wheel shaking but I can not seem to upload it to the photo section
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY ON DRY NON WINDY EVENING AT 75MPH THE FRONT END STARTED TO VIOLENTLY SHAKING "DEATH WOBBLE" THE SHAKING WAS TRANSFERED THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE ENTIRE TRUCK WAS SHAKING VIOLENTLY SIDE TO SIDE. I WAS IN FEAR I WAS GOING TO CRASH OR THE TRUCK SHAKE APART. I WAS ABLE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN AND PULL OFF THE ROAD. AFTER VISUALIZING THE FRONT END AND TIRES I COULD FIND NO LOOSE OR BROKEN EQUIPMENT. ALL TIRE PRESSURE WAS WITHIN 2 LBS OF EACH OTHER. VEHICLE IS A 2017 FORD F250 XLT DIESEL WITH 85K MILES. I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE AND DRIVE THE TRUCK ON THE SIDE ROADS HOME. I HAVE HAD NO RECENT WORK DONE. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME. I AM IN FEAR OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE.
THIS VEHICLE HAS WHAT IS COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE DEATH WOBBLE. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO HAVE THE ISSUE RESOLVED AND REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE REPAIRS HAVEN'T COMPLETELY RESOLVED THE ISSUE. THE STEERING AND SUSPENSION ISSUES OVER BUMP AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS STILL CAUSE IT TO FEEL LIKE THERE MAY BE A LOSS OF CONTROL.
WHILE DRIVING AT A SPEED OF 65MPH ON THE INTERSTATE, I BEGAN TO MAKE THE CURVE IN THE ROAD. AHEAD OF ME WAS A BUMP IN THE ROAD AS MY FRONT WHEELS HIT THE BUMP, MY TRUCK SHARPLY TURNED PUSHING ME INTO THE OTHER LANE AND BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY. SHAKING WAS SO BAD I COULD BARELY HOLD ONTO THE STEERING WHEEL OR CONTROL THE VEHICLE. I BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN AND AROUND 25MPH THE SHAKING FINALLY STOPPED AND THE TRUCK SEEMED TO RETURN TO NORMAL FUNCTION.
MILEAGE 21098. DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY 65 MPH, ROAD GOT BUMPY, I THOUGHT THE PICKUP WAS GOING TO SHAKE IT SELF APART. LUCKY NO OTHER VEHICLES WAS AROUND ME. I MANAGED TO GET IT STOPPED AND PULLED OVER, IT WAS VERY FRIGHTENING, I COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. IT HAPPENED AGAIN AT 45 MPH. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, AND THEY SAID "YES WE ARE VERY FAMILLAR WITH THIS PROBLEM. THEY PERFORMED RECALL 20N04 AND REPLACED STEERING DAMPER. I STILL GET LOT OF SHAKING AND LOT OF CONTROL, ESPECIALLY ON GRAVEL ROADS WITH WASHBOARDS.
WHEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, IF THE VEHICLE DRIVES OVER A POTHOLE OR UNEVEN ROAD, THE FRONT END SUSPENSION (INCLUDING STEERING WHEEL AND FRONT WHEELS) BEGIN TO WOBBLE VIOLENTLY. IT HAS BEEN CHARACTERIZED AS THE DEATH WOBBLE. THE PROBLEM ONLY CORRECTS ITSELF ONCE THE TRUCK IS GROSSLY SLOWED DOWN WITHOUT BRAKING. BRAKING MAKES THE ISSUE WORSE AS IT IS HAPPENING. I HAVE ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE TRUCK. FORD HAS BEEN OF NO HELP IN THIS ISSUE. WAITING FOR A RECALL.
I AM EXPERIENCING WHAT PEOPLE REFER TO AS 'THE DEATH WOBBLE'. IT HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 4 TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED THE TRUCK IN DECEMBER 2020. ALL 4 INSTANCES WERE THE SAME.... GOING AROUND MAYBE 48MPH ON A CITY STREET WITH UNEVEN PAVEMENT/SMALL HOLES THE TRUCK BEGINS TO SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY. I MEAN, THE WHOLE TRUCK WILL VICIOUSLY SHAKE AND GIVE THE DRIVER NO CONTROL UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 25MPH. WHEN IT SHAKES YOU HAVE TO HOLD ON TO THE STEERING WHEEL TIGHT AND JUST TRY YOUR BEST TO STAY IN YOUR LANE. IT'S SO DANGEROUS AND SCARY! I'VE HAD MY TRUCK TO THE DEALER PREVIOUSLY FOR BAD VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END AND STEERING WHEN ON THE INTERSTATE GOING 65-70MPH AFTER HITTING AN IMPERFECTION IN THE ROAD. DEALER FIRST REPLACED THE STEERING DAMPER IN MAY/2020. THE VIBRATION CONTINUED, BUT WASN'T AS BAD AS PREVIOUSLY EXPERIENCED. THEN LAST WEEK THE VIBRATION WORSENED. I THEN EXPERIENCED WHAT WAS KNOWN AS THE DEATH WOBBLE. I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE AND HIT AN IMPERFECTION IN THE ROAD AND ALMOST LOST CONTROL WITH A VIOLENT VIBRATION IN STEERING AND ENTIRE BODY. ALMOST HAD A HORRIBLE ACCIDENT WITH A SEMI TRACTOR AS I WAS TRYING TO GAIN CONTROL. WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD. WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 65 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL VIOLENTLY BEGAN SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY. YOU COULD VISUALLY SEE AND FEEL THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE TRUCK SHAKING. IT GOT WORSE WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES. THIS HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES WHEN DRIVING OVER MINOR IMPERFECTIONS ON THE ROAD. I TOOK THE TRUCK IN TO GET THE RECALL FIXED, BUT IT DID NOT FIX THE WOBBLE. WHENEVER DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 50-70 MPH, EVERY TIME I HIT A BUMP OR HOLE IN THE ROAD, MY TRUCK BEGINS TO WOBBLE, NEARLY UNCONTROLLABLY. AT SLOWER SPEEDS, I CAN STILL FEEL THE WOBBLE. IT ONLY DOES NOT WOBBLE WHEN I HIT BUMPS GOING 15 MPH OR LESS.
WHILE TRAVELING ALONG AN INTERSTATE AT 75-80 MPH, AS THE VEHICLE TRAVELED OVER A PAVED BRIDGE JOINT, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGIN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY, AS IF THE VEHICLE WAS GOING TO SHATTER APART. I HAD NO STEERING ABILITY AND COULD NOT CONTROL THE VEHICLE. I HAD TO NEARLY COME TO A SLOW ROLL, ON THE INTERSTATE, IN ORDER TO ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO RETURN BACK TO NORMALCY. THE VIOLENT SHAKING CONTINUED FOR APPROXIMATELY 10-15 SECONDS BEFORE THE SHAKING SUBSIDED ENOUGH FOR ME TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THIS SAME EVENT, ON A DIFFERENT ROADWAY, OCCURRED AGAIN WITHIN 30 DAYS OF THE FIRST EVENT.
DRIVING ON I 495 LAST NIGHT AND EXPERIENCED DEATH WOBBLE. I HAVE UNDER 27,000 MILES ON MY 2017 F250. IN THE PAST, I NOTICE SHAKING BUT THIS WAS ALOT WORSE AND LASTED A LONG TIME. I HAD TO PUT ON HAZARD LIGHTS AND MOVE OVER LANES TO SHOULDER WHILE SLOWING DOWN. FORTUNATELY, I WAS NOT IN AN ACCIDENT BUT COULD EASILY HAVE BENN.
EXPERIENCED "DEATH WOBBLE" THE 1ST TIME TRAVELING 65 MPH TRAVELED OVER CONCRETE TO ASPHAULT TRANSITION. MILEAGE OF THE VEHICLE WAS AT 13,500 MILES. THIS TRUCK IS 100% STOCK NO MODFIFICATIONS. TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES NOT ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEMS
THE DEATH WABBLE WAS A PROBLEM FOR OUR GAS F-250 CREW CAB. THE PROBLEM WAS WARPED FRONT ROTORS. THE PROBLEM DID NOT SHOW UP ON ANY DIAGNOSTIC AND THE FRONT BRAKES AND ROTORS WERE RATED 'GOOD'. THE PROBLEM WAS DISCOVERED BY A TALENTED MECHANIC WHO RULED OUT EVERYTHING ELSE AND PERFORMED A VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE SUSPECT ROTORS. THIS IS AN EPIDEMIC PROBLEM AND IT IS CAUSED BY THE MANUFACTURER OF THE FACTORY SUPPLIED ROTORS!!! FORD MUST AVOID INFERIOR PARTS THAT WARP IN CHANGING TEMPERATURES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 FORD F-250. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY BACK AND FORTH. THE VEHICLE THEN LOSS POWER STEERING FUNCTIONALITY. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND INSPECTED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AND UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE A CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND STARTED DRIVING AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE RESIDENCE. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED WINSLOW FORD (840 MIKE'S PIKE ST, WINSLOW, AZ 86047, (800)331-6698) WHO STATED THAT THEY WOULD CHECK REMOTELY TO SEE WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
I HAVE HAD THE TRUCK IN THREE TIMES FOR THE FRONT TIRES SHAKING AND VIBRATIONS IN THE STEERING. JUST HAD THE TRUCK IN TWO WEEKS AGO TO HAVE IT FIXED AGAIN AND STILL VIBRATING.
THE TRUCK HAS ONLY 30K MILES ON IT AND LAST WEEK WHILE DRIVING IT ON THE FREEWAY IT SUDDENLY DEVELOPED A VIOLENT SHAKING AT SPEEDS OVER 60MPH. ONLY BY BRAKING AND PULLING OVER TO THE SHOULDER WERE WE ABLE TO STOP THE SHAKING. WE ARE TRYING TO WORK WITH OUR LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP-THEY THINK IT'S A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING DAMPNER AND THE TRACK BAR.
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND PULLING A TRAILER OUT OF NOWHERE TRUCK BEGINS TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND STEERING BECOMES EXTREMELY DIFFICULT, IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE. I QUICKLY SLAMMED ON BRAKES TO REDUCE SPEED TO ABOUT 40MPH TO REGAIN CONTROL AND STOP SHAKING. LUCKILY, I WAS TRAVELING ON A STRAIGHT SECTION OF ROAD. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN ON A TURN OR SLOPE. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES SINCE OWNING THE TRUCK. EACH TIME FORD DEALERSHIP REPLACED SAME PART FOR A STEERING DAMPER DOES NOT SEEM TO FIX THE PROBLEM. AFTER RESEARCHING MY INCIDENTS I FOUND SIMILAR STORIES REFERRING TO THIS AS THE DEATH WOBBLE.
DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS I WENT OVER A SMALL CRACK IN THE ROAD. IMMEDIATELY THE FRONT END STARTED TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE AND I LOST ALL STEERING CONTROL. THE ONLY CORRECTIVE ACTION WAS TO SLOW DOWN TO AROUND 40 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME THREE TIMES WITH THREE TRUCK ACTING IN THE SAME MANNER AS BEFORE; LOSING ALL STEERING CONTROL OF THE TRUCK. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL FORD DEALER FOR ASSISTANCE. THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE ENDED BADLY, SLOWING DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY AND LOSING ALL STEERING CONTROL.
WHEN MAKING A TRANSITION BETWEEN ROAD SURFACES OR IRREGULARITIES IN THE ROAD SURFACES ABOVE 50MPH THE STEERING ENTERS A HIGH FREQUENCY OSCILLATION THAT REQUIRES AN ABRUPT SLOW DOWN TO REGAINED CONTROL. THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED WHEN HITTING POTHOLES BELOW 50 MPH. THIS IS REFERRED TO ASK THE "DEATH WOBBLE" AND CAN BE SEEN ON YOUTUBE. THIS HAS HAPPENED ENOUGH THAT IT IS NOT A ONE TIME INCIDENT OR A FLAKE. THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 50,000 MILES AND ITS GOING TO THE FORD DEALER FOR REPAIR.
AT 55-65 MPH, IF I HIT ANY KIND OF A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK STARTS TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE TO THE POINT WHERE IT IS HARD TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. I HAVE TO IMMEDIATELY BRING THE VEHICLE DOWN TO 30 MPH TO GET THE SHAKING UNDER CONTROL. IT IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DEFECT IN THE VEHICLE AND SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT. FORD DEALERSHIP WILL NOT FIX WITHOUT ME PAYING FOR THE REPAIRS, AND THEY HAVE NO CERTAIN FIX, THEY PLAN ON JUST REPLACING PARTS ONE THING AT A TIME AT MY EXPENSE. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR APPROX 6 MONTHS.
WHEN I OPERATE MY 2017 FORD F250 AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN 45 MPH AND ENCOUNTER A POT HOLE OR BUMP IN THE ROAD THE TRUCK BEGINS A TERRIBLE "DEATH WOBBLE". THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES VIOLENTLY AND THE ENTIRE TRUCK SHAKES AND RATTLES. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED A STEERING DAMPER AS PART OF A FORD EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM BUT NOW CLAIM THE PROBLEM WILL PERSIST BECAUSE I HAVE WORN BALL JOINTS AND A DRAG LINK THAT NEEDS REPLACED. I WAS TOLD THIS WOULD COST ME OVER $1,100 AND IT IS NOT COVERED BY FORD ALTHOUGH IT IS OBVIOUSLY A FLAW AND A RESULT OF THE FAILED DAMPER. I CAN'T BELIEVE FORD IS WILLING TO IGNORE SUCH AN ISSUE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 FORD F-250. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY RIGHT TO LEFT. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000.
AFTER HITTING A BUMP ON THE HIGHWAY THE FRONT END STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY. ALMOST SHOOK THE STEERING WHEEL OUT OF MY HANDS. THIS HAPPENED TWICE IN LESS THAN 2 MILES AT HIGHWAY SPEED- 70 MPH.
TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE 80 WESTBOUND GOING ONTO THE BRIDGE IN JOLIET TRUCK STARTED DEATH WOBBLE AFTER CROSSING FROM THE RAMP TO THE DECK. OSCILITION DID NOT STOP TILL I DROPPED BELOW 55 MPH .
DRIVING ABOUT 60 MPH IN THE FAR RIGHT LANE SOUTHBOUND ON THE ILLINOIS TOLL ROAD HIT A POT HOLE AND HAD TO SLOW THE TRUCK TO BELOW 50 TO STOP THE DEATH WOBBLE .
WHILE DRIVING AT AROUND 45 - 65 MPH THE FRONT END WILL SHAKE VIOLENTLY AFTER HITTING A ROUGH SPOT IN THE ROAD. THIS WOULD HAPPEN ON BOTH CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAYS. IT WOULD HAPPEN ON A STRAIGHTAWAY AND CURVES. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. IT MAKES THE VEHICLE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO HANDLE. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS ON OR ABOUT FEB. 24, 2018 ON I-80 BETWEEN SALT LAKE CITY AND ELKO, NV. AT THAT TIME THE VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 7,500 MILES ON IT. IT HAS BEEN GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. IT SCARES THE HOLY CRUD OUT OF ALL PASSENGERS. I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT FORD IS HAVING.
I WAS TRAVELING DOWN A HIGHWAY AT AROUND 70 MPH WHEN I HIT A SMALL BUMP. THAT BUMP CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL AND FRONT END SUSPENSION GO INTO WHAT HAS BEEN DESCRIBED AS A "DEATH WOBBLE." IT SHOOK UNCONTROLLABLY AND DID NOT STOP UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN TO AROUND 25 MPH. DURING THAT TIME THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK AND I DID NOT HAVE THE CAPABILITY OF TURNING TO ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS THING THAT COULD CAUSE SOME MAJOR PROBLEMS. IT HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE THEN. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT MUST BE CORRECTED AND FORD MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE.
DEATH WOBBLE AT 44,000 MILES
I RAN OVER A POT HOLE ON THE HIGHWAY. THE ENTIRE TRUCK STARTED TO SHAKE VIGOROUSLY. I LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING BECAUSE OF THE SHAKING. THIS IS A KNOW PROBLEM IN FORD TRUCKS CALLED THE 'DEATH WOBBLE'. THE ONLY THING I COULD DO WAS SLOW DOWN UNTIL THE SHAKING STOPPED.
WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE DOWN THE ROAD BETWEEN 60MPH AND 75 MPH, THE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK BEGINS TO EXTREMELY VIOLENTLY SHAKE; ALMOST FEELING LIKE THE WHEELS ARE QUICKLY JUMPING OFF THE GROUND BACK AND FORTH. THE VEHICLE BECOMES UNCONTROLLABLE WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND YOU HAVE TO SLOW DOWN TO APPROX 30 MPH TO GET IT TO STOP SHAKING. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 48,500 MILES ON IT. IT WAS BOUGHT TO FORD EXPLAINING THE PROBLEM, THE REPLACED THE STEERING STABILIZER. I DROVE 1 MILD DOWN THE ROAD AND BROUGHT IT RIGHT BACK TELLING THEM THAT DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. THEY TOLD ME 3 MORE PARTS THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE, BASICALLY TELLING ME THEY DIDN'T KNOW BUT WERE GOING TO DO SOME EXPLORING JUST REPLACING PARTS AT MY EXPENSE. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL OF TRUCK KNOWN AS THE "DEATH WOBBLE" AND FORD IS DOING...
I HAD VIGOROUS SHAKING IN THE STEERING WHEEL AT 80 MPH IN DEC 2020. CALLED DEALER AND THEY EXPLAINED THAT IT IS THE "DEATH WOBBLE" THAT IS A RECALL. I GOT THE VEHICLE IN A FEW DAYS LATER WHERE THEY CHANGED THE STEERING DAMPENER. IN JANUARY, I DROVE TO TEXAS AND BACK AND HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN 3 TIMES. AFTER SLOWING TO 50 MPH, IT WOULD STOP. DEALER SAYS THAT IT COULD BE A NUMBER OF ISSUES ON THE FRONT END THAT WOULD BE OUTSIDE MY WARRANTY COVERAGE, SINCE I AM PAST THE 3 YEARS. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE ALL OVER THE INTERNET, WHERE AFTER MARKET ACCESSORY DEALERS ARE MAKING A TON OF MONEY TO SELL US STUFF TO FIX WHAT FORD WILL NOT FIX. IT'S DANGEROUS, AS SEEN AND AS THE DEALERSHIP EXPLAINED. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW FORD IS NOT MANDATED TO FIX THIS SAFETY ISSUE.

DEATH WOBBLE. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, 55-75MPH, THE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK STARTS SHAKING SO BAD THE ONLY CONTROL YOU HAVE IS BRAKES. IT DOES NOT STOP UNTIL ALMOST COMPLETELY STOPPED. IT CAN HAPPEN WITH ANY SMALL BUMP OR "RUB BOARD" SITUATION, CURVE OR NO CURVE. FORD IS AWARE OF, THEY REPLACED STEERING STABILIZER EARLY 2019, AND HAPPENED AGAIN JUST THIS PAST WEEKEND. CALLED THE DEALER, THEY ARE WILLING TO REPLACE STABILIZER AGAIN, BUT RECOMMENDED I CONSIDER AFTERMARKET. THE TRUCK HAS ONLY 32,000 MILES ON IT, AND THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE IT WAS 9 MONTHS OLD. THIS PROBLEM IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET (INCLUDING MUCH EARLIER YEAR MODELS AND LATER) AND I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A LAWSUIT. I DRIVEN PICKUPS (WORK RELATED) FOR OVER A MILLION MILES (MOST OF THEM HAD 200,000 PLUS MILES WHEN TRADED IN) AND NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE UNTIL I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE. IT IS...
I'VE HAD MY 2017 FORD 250 AT THE LOCAL FORD DEALER 3 TIMES IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS. I HAVE THE DEATH WOBBLE IN THE STEERING, THEY HAVE REPLACED THE STEERING LINKAGE TWICE, BUT NEVER RESOLVED THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER SENT ME HOME WITH NO SOLUTIONS TO FIXING THE ISSUE
DRIVING AT A STEADY SPEED OF NEAR 65 MPH THE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY. IT WAS FRIGHTENING AND ONLY STOPPED ONCE MY SPEED WENT BELOW 40 MPH. IT HAPPENED 3X ON ONE 500 MILE TRIP AND HAD HAPPENED 1X A MONTH PREVIOUSLY. I CHECKED TIRES, WHEELS, AND PRESSURES AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG.
