2018 FORD F-150 Engine Problems

Rattling when cold start. Was told I need new cam phasers and timing components. Told me it’s a common problem.

When cold starting the vehicle, it makes a loud knocking noise for several seconds. I looked this up online and apparently it's a problem with the Cam Phasers. A recall was issued for trucks made in two of their plants. Left unrepaired, this will cause slack in the timing chain, which can lead to severe engine damage. I was never notified of this recall. When I began to hear the noise, I went to the dealer to get the diagnosis and repair. The dealer informed me of the recall and that it had expired. My repair estimate is $3600 + tax. In the 4 1/2 years I've owned the vehicle, I moved 4 times, which may have been why I never received the recall notice. I believe since this is a known manufacturing defect, it should be covered no matter the circumstances.

Camshaft phasers have failed, and turbo charger actuator arms are rattling bad. These damages were not caused by driver, but they are a result of the manufacturer. I have already spent $5000.00 on this vehicle for the camshaft phasers and now have to fork out another $3000.00 on the turbo. According to a lawsuit/injunction by the DOJ, my truck meets the criteria to have the recall covered but Ford customer care said no.

Ford issued Customer Satisfaction Program 21N03 on Nov 19th, 2021 which covers all F-150s manufactured in their Deerborn plant from March 2016 through Nov 2019 which mine was. My truck is now in dire need of this repair and Ford is refusing to cover this. Since Ford did not include my VIN in this program I was never notified in Nov of 21 during which time I was well within the mileage limit as to which they would cover the repair. I asked Ford why my VIN wasn't included in this program and they had said I had to be included in a prior program 21B10 to be included in this one. So I asked about the prior program and they indicated to me that it only covered vehicles manufactured in their Kansas plant. Engine ticking diagnosed by mechanic found to be scoring on two roller rockers on different sides on the engine. ALL ROCKERS, LIFTERS, PRIMARY AND SECONDARY TIMING CHAINS WITH TENSIONERS ARE RECOMMENDED. The cost of this repair was $6,856.56

This morning, while making a left hand turn, the engine stopped running. I looked down at the dashboard. There was a message that read "auto start/stuff off" "Place vehicle in 'P' and re-start engine." I re-started the engine and continued my drive to work. I have looked on line to see why this would happen. I have a half full tank of gas. I was actually in the middle of my left turn when the engine just died and I had to read a message on the dashboard. This is extremely unsafe.

Oil consumption, engine consumes 8 quarts of oil in 1600 miles causes engine to stall without warning. No oil light and dangerous

How is there not a recall yet? I'm still making payments on my 2018 Ford F-150 which I purchased in 2020. The first problem I experienced happened when accelerating to pass a slower moving vehicle (into oncoming traffic). Instead, my truck slowed substantially (70 mph down to 40 mph) preventing me and all the other drivers behind me from passing. Fortunately, there wasn't a vehicle traveling in the opposite lane...although, I'm not sure a head on collision would've resulted in a recall! I was told that the EcoBoost was the reason...that term is deceiving to say the least. This may/ may not have led to the bigger problem, my transmission. How was your safety or the safety of others put at ris ? The engine can stall out at any given moment with the risk of stalling out in traffic. or even a train track. We use this truck for traveling and it only had 69,000 on it. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? On inspection from our mechanic when we had the oil changed on 7/21/2023 we pointed out our truck made noise when starting the truck..
