The Starter on my 2018 Ford F150 XTR (XLT trim to be sold new in Canada) with the 5.0L Coyote V8 engine failed @ only 46,000 miles. I have done my own auto repair for years, and have replaced a few failed or failing starters, none of which were @ less than 100,000 miles. After a little research, I found out that Ford "created" their Coyote engine with the Auto Stop/Start feature as a fuel economy measure to satisfy USEPA. However, this resulted in a several orders of magnitude increase in the number of starts within any given time frame (say, over the course of a year) and, since Ford did not re-design the starter to account for this radical increase in the sheer number of starts, starters are failing early. Mine failed @ 46,000 miles, and I've read multiple online posts from owners of this engine that had to...
Cam phaser noise, replaced already at 29000 miles and failed again at 78000 miles, Ford had a Program 21N03 to replace phasers, but expired Jan 2023, was informed this morning by ford dealer. >$4000 to replace a know design issue on these phasers. believe there is a new design but Ford will not warranty the change per 21N03 program. When called Ford customer care, no program available to support a change and rep could not give me assurances if the vehicle is safe to drive. I do not think this is acceptable given a know design issue on this engine.
I was driving, I looked down because my truck was unresponsive, my truck had died, a warning light had come on stating the following: "Auto Start/Stop Shift to P, then Restart Engine". I was on the interstate, in a two lane construction zone, I had to pull over into the construction area, stop my truck, and try and restart. After a minute or two, I was able to restart my truck and re-enter the road way. A very dangerous situation, luckily I did not have my children in the vehicle at the time. I scheduled a service appointment after this and was told it was the fuel pump control module. Unfortunately, it has happened twice since my service appointment... something needs to me done!

When starting the engine there is a loud rattle for a few seconds. After research there seems to be other Ford recalls related to the cam phasers that were recalled in other models but I believe the series or production line when mine was produced should be added as well. I have talked to Ford service already and spoke with a customer advocate. My case number is [XXX] Thank you [XXX] C [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

First is the automatic 10 speed transmission. Started with hard shifting then skipped gears then the whole transmission had to be replaced. Next is the cam phasers, loud knocking, engine runs rough, poor acceleration, gets hot fast. Local Ford dealer has confirmed the problems. Have replaced transmission but have not had the money to replace cam phasers. Both known by Ford but not taking responsibility for it.
Unknown my truck was running rough so took it to shoo they ran the codes told me CPS camshaft position sensor bank 2 was coding so replaced all 4 sensors but was still having issues and then truck started having a rattle but not all the time it would come and go then the shop said replace spark plugs so I did then rattle got worse but would go away when came to stop sign. During all of this I was using alot of oil 1 qt about every 3000 to 5000 miles then the truck started having noisy start up that went away after couple seconds loss of power poor fuel economy and the rattle was more constant oil levels checked daily and were good but yesterday the day after an oil.change and my truck lost power when depressed the gas pedal I continued to lose speed and then...

The first day I brought it home it was knocking. I took it back and they said it was high volume fuel pump making noise. Then they said it was a recall on cam sensor . They told us if we had it fixed before 90,000 miles it would cost me about 2,000 to repair. But we had a 100,000 mile drive train warranty. So they wouldn’t fix it. When my f150 reach 100,000 miles then the transmission started dropping in to first gear from 10 th gear. Now it hangs up in gear's. Shifts to wrong gears. This issue is very dangerous

Cam phaser failure.
10R80 transmission can cause life threatening issues due to harsh shifting, jerking, hesitation, and slipped gears. Transmission can unexpectedly shift in to neutral while in motion which could cause a crash, and will not speed up at times when needing to accelerate. Ford will not issue a recall on this defect resulting in several class actions. Ford service is still charging up to $10,000 to repair the defect despite being aware of this defect since 2017. Multiple technical service bulletins have been issued by Ford, but no recall despite presenting a real danger to drivers of the affected vehicles. Ford did recall 2021 models of this vehicle for the same exact reason, but will not recall the earlier models posing the same danger. My vehicle is currently in with the Ford service department after doing everything listed above while driving, and Ford has informed me it needs a $9,500 repair...
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150 The contact stated while stopped at a traffic signal, the low oil pressure warning illuminated. The contact continued driving approximately 30 MPH and drove the vehicle back to the shop where an oil change had recently been performed. The shop technician informed the contact that the oil pan plug and the gasket had both slipped off the plastic oil pan. The contact was advised that the oil plug was not stripped and had loosened from the oil pan. The contact stated that the shop had replaced the oil pan plug and the plug gasket. The vehicle was repaired. The contact researched online and became aware similar failures with the plastic oil pan. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.
Vehicles 2018. To. 2020 have excessive oil consumption can cause engine failure and emissions problems due to high oil being burned .manufacture fail to fix the engine problem a technical service bulletin has been issued to bypass the real problem with the engine and emissions problem
I bought vehicle at almost 60,000 miles and 8 to 9000 miles later engine is misfiring. Vehicle has been in should previous year and I got it back this June(24) for 2 days and back in shop only to find that ford had work on cyclometer before and refuse to let that be know when it was in shop the first time from same noise and complaint. The dealer recommendation is for a new motor in which cost $12000 more on top of what I owe on truck and ford is refusing to fix the problems stating it’s out of warranty but they previously worked on vehicle. This vehicle had currently 70,000 miles on it and it should not be up for a new motor and I’ve only experienced this vehicle for 9 to 10,000 miles. Seems as if this was a patch up job on a lemon to be...

The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 MPH, the contact heard an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken for an oil change and was informed that the engine oil level was extremely low. The contact stated that after the oil change was performed, while checking the oil level, the contact became aware that the level was dropping and there was no evidence of an oil leak. The contact stated that adding approximately 1 quart of oil was added every month. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The 2-piece oil pan system leaks. On Ford’s 3.5L V6 motor, a two piece oil pan is known for commonly leaking. The source of the leak is between the plastic oil pan and the aluminum upper oil pan. Over time with the oil heating and coiling this causes the pans to heat and expand at different rates causing gasket failure around the attachment bolts. This is extremely common among these motors. The safety of the at risk operators and passengers comes into play when you consider the oil leak is captured by a steal skid plate where the oil accumulates over time. If enough oil is present and enough heat from the exhaust reaches the waist oil, a fire could start. The only way a vehicle owner would know there is a leak is if they do their own maintenance or have a good mechanic that does the oil changes....
I am told that there is a common issue with the year/make Ford that I have where the engine ends up needing replacement. The check engine light was on, so we took it into Ford and the engine “soaked up the oil” and when it was brought in it only 1.2 quarts left and was supposed to have 8 quarts. The Ford dealer stated that this is a common issue with this particular engine. Now the warranty company isn’t willing to cover without proof and Ford can’t prove because it’s an internal engine issue.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed with cam phaser failure. The contact was informed that the cam phasers needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 119,964.
The cam phasers have always made a loud noise at startup. When I had this looked at, dealerships told me it was just a noise and nothing to worry about. Over time, the noise got worse. Recently, the cam phasers malfunctioned so that the truck would not accelerate as usual. It was extremely slow and lacked it's typical power on acceleration. The slow acceleration placed myself, my wife and children, and other drivers at risk when I was unable to accelerate as needed in traffic. Then, the engine also started a very rough idle as if the engine was about to shut down. I was still rolling to a stop when the truck began bouncing due to the rough idle. The biuncing and rough idle can happen even when i am not at a complete stop. I just have to be off the gas. The engine slowing quickly or shutting...
𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟭: Vehicle is available for inspection. 1) Transmission: Vehicle consistently shifts aggressively around 4th gear (10 speeds total). Vehicle lurches when going above 3rd, however, it shifts correctly after 5th gear. 2) Acceleration: Vehicle randomly lurches forward or backward, depending on whether or not the vehicle is in Drive or Reverse, almost like you are slamming on the pedal, but without having pressed the pedal. This has only happened a couple of times, but it's very noticeable when it does. 3) Auto Start Stop Module: Vehicle will shut off while stopped or almost at a complete stop and the dashboard will have an error message with the auto start stop symbol and instructions that say to put the vehicle in park and turn the key to the off position and then back on. This has happened with the auto start stop button on the truck being pushed in the...
In 2021 and 50,000 miles I had a complete engine rebuild done due to failed cam phasers. Now 35,000 miles later, I have to have the same repair done because the campuses have failed again. After searching social media, and recognizing nothing is being done, there are post after post after post after post where vehicles have had the same issue over and over again for the 2018 to 2020 F150 3.5 L eco-boost engine. Ford has absolve themselves of all responsibility. They should definitely be looked into.
Cam phasers have gone out. This is the second time this vehicle has unsafely died in the 30k miles we have owned this vehicle. Ford refuses to help cover the costs.
Ford is to be aware or rattle on cold star but decline to Repair it and wants us to pay for it. I’ve brought up the concerns to them but no action on their part or solution has been given with a 41,000 miles truck there are many other people with same issues.
When driving the transmission skips which causes passengers to hit their heads on the back head rest thrusting our bodies toward the windshield. It is not safe to drive. Had it worked on just after we purchased it. Gears from 2 to 3 and sometimes at higher rates of speed the vehicle jerks and eventually will probably leave us stranded.
Very bad rattle on start up from the cam phasers in the 3.5 Ecoboost. Could cause possible engine failure and most likely advanced engine wear. 10 speed automatic transmission already having rough shifts from 3-5 gear change. Clunks into reverse. These issues have been going on since I've gotten the truck, taken it to 3 different dealers and have had my coverage denied. Please note my vehicle only has 39k miles on it. The fact that ford has not recalled these trucks is truly embarrassing. The 10 speed and the 3.5 Ecoboost are notorious for issues.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine became overheated with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed as a failure with the cylinder heads. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure The failure mileage was unknown.
Been having this issue for months. Go to hit the gas to go from a stop truck shutters and hastates to move. No check engine light has come on. Thought it was the fuel we put in it but no matter what fuel it still does it. Almost have been hit a dozen times with my children in the truck with me due to truck will not Accelerate and shutters when you go to take off from a stop. Even when putting the vehicle into sports mode and hit the gas, the truck hesitates and shutters as well. Been to repair shops and they stated they can't find anything wrong with it due to no check engine light being on.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the failure was related to an unknown recall. An appointment was scheduled for the repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but...
I just started towing with my 2018 2.7L F-150 Eco Boost. I went on a long trip with my family towing our camper. When coming off the highway we slowed down to yield for our turn. The vehicle shut off in the middle of the highway, presenting a serious safety concern for me and my family. Throughout the rest of the trip this continued to happen when coming to a stop. Ford has known about this safety issue since 2018. TSB 182249A was issued on August 16, 2018.
there was a ford program recall to fix the ecoboost cam phasers but it has now ended. and now my 2018 F150 is experiencing cam phaser issues (as per Ford dealer service) at 60k miles; however, Ford has not issued another recall.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine made ticking sounds. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the engine oil level was low. The dealer added engine oil, and the contact returned to the dealer every week for 3–4 weeks for an oil consumption test. The contact was informed that the engine was consuming an excessive amount of oil, more than the manufacturer's recommended amount. The contact was also informed that the engine needed to be replaced; however, the vehicle was not covered under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

Subject: Urgent Resolution Required for Defective 2018 Ford F150 Truck Dear [Dealership Manager/General Manager], I am writing to express my profound disappointment and frustration with the 2018 Ford F150 truck I purchased from your dealership five months ago. Despite being certified pre-owned by Ford, the vehicle has been plagued by significant mechanical issues, primarily excessive oil consumption, leading to engine and transmission failure. This situation is deeply troubling, as it not only poses a major safety concern but also represents a significant financial burden and inconvenience. Despite repeated attempts to address these issues through servicing at Ford Sawgrass, the truck has been deemed unserviceable, necessitating a new engine and transmission. My efforts to seek resolution from Ford Motor Company have been met with indifference, as they have cited a third-party warranty that allegedly supersedes their responsibility. Similarly, Grieco Ford of Delray Beach has been unresponsive to my complaints, citing the...
see NTSHA report of technical service bulletin. This describes exactly the issue. As a result, the timing chain has been diagnosed as stretched due to the cam phaser issue. From what I understand, the safety concern is that the timing chain, if left undiagnosed/unrepaired can cause engine failure, loss of control etc. Ford has attempted to fix the VCT (Variable camshaft timing.
