I am filing this report due to a serious and costly engine failure in my 2017 Ford Edge Titanium with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine. My vehicle has always been properly maintained and I recently experienced pre-mature engine issues at only 93,000 miles. The issue began with rough starts, hovering RPMs, and eventually led to a complete engine failure. My mechanic diagnosed the problem as coolant intrusion into the engine, which I have since learned is a known issue covered by Ford’s Technical Service Bulletin TSB 19-2208. It appears most people begin experiencing this issue at 50,000-90,000 miles. The cost to replace the engine is between $8,000 and $9,000, and my vehicle is no longer under warranty. Bought this car a couple of years ago. In the past 6 months we have had to have brakes/rotors fixed ($650), spark plugs, etc ($780). It's had issues with not starting after fueling up with gas. Coolant intrusion into cylinder causing rapid corrosion of engine block.

Engine and Cooling Failure on my 2017 Ford Edge. Transmission operating poorly and check engine light was on. Went to dealer for service, and was told faulty gasket is leading to coolant intrusion into the transmission. Was told needed to replace engine at cost of $10,500. This is a widespread issue on this model yet Ford refuses to recall it and fix it, and this despite the fact that they recalled other models with the same engine. An 8-year old car should not have to be junked. The NHTSA needs to do the right thing and force Ford to recall this model and replace the engine.

I had purchased the 8 year warranty plan for my 2017 Ford Edge. The week before it expired, I took it in for a oil change and final check. The mileage was only 42,542 miles. Brakes were replaced under warranty and all looked good. Literally the next time we drove it after getting home, at about 55 mph the check engine light came on, motive power was lost, and the brakes and gas pedal lost power. My 2017 Ford Edge with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine has been diagnosed with the coolant intrusion issue covered by Ford’s Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) 19-2172 or 22-2229. After taking it to a repair shop, the mechanic discovered there was coolant seeping into the #1 cylinder. Research confirmed that it was a known issue associated with a 'porous block' created during the casting process. Coolant Intrusion on EcoBoost 2.0L engine, cylinders #2 and #3 due to head gasket failure. Failure is due to open deck coolant system on engine re-design which was done on 2017- 2019 model years. The engine redesign (to get more horsepower) required more cooling so they "channeled" coolant between the cylinders leaving very little space for head gasket to seal. The only "fix" (see their TSBs) is to replace the entire long block on the vehicle. This replacement long block is not the same design, but a instead is a new one which has been re-engineered specifically because of the faulty design mentioned above. March 9, 2025 Big O installed 4 new tires on my 2017 Ford Edge w/Eco boost engine. March 22, 2025 engine light came on while driving. Because I just had it at Big O, I took it back to them to check. Took the car for routine oil change and was informed the head gasket is failing, coolant and oil are mixed posing a safety hazard to drive the vehicle (that I make payments on still)

My vehicle started going through coolant. Next, it started to misfire and was having the check engine light come on. It had the code P0304. It was a cylinder 4 misfire. We took it in to get diagnosed at AutoNation Westlake Ford. It is part of the technical service bulletin. There is coolant leaking into the 4th cylinder of our vehicle causing this issue. It is now happening while driving. We contacted for customer service to see if they have any programs to assist with the repairs needed because the entire engine needs replaced and it is a known malfunction due to poor engine design. They said there is nothing that can be done from them.

2017 Ford Edge begin overheating. Diagnostic test revealed a cracked block & coolant consumption issues. This vehicle has a 2.0 Ecoboost with open block design. The diagnostic test was performed by Jones Automotive, Germantown TN. Since the vehicle isn't drivable, it has not been taken to a Ford dealership. What I've ended up with in a mixture oil and coolant with a sludge consistency filtering throughout the engine which is now a non-operational vehicle with ~ $5,000 payoff. As far as safety is concerned, this vehicle was in danger of the engine catching fire. The only warning received was the engine overheating which prompted me to take it our ship to determine the problem.

I bought this 2017 Ford Edge SEL with the 2.0L Ecoboost engine as a used vehicle in 2022. It started to have unexplained coolant loss and a check engine light indicating a misfires in cylinders #2 and #3. The car was taken to a local Ford dealer who diagnosed it with "COOLANT INTRUSION CYLINDER #2" and they indicated that it was a known issue with this engine but Ford had not issued a recall. They also indicated that the defect creates a safety risk, because the lack of coolant created by the leaks causes overheating and can result in the cylinder head cracking, total engine failure, and/or engine fires. They said my only option was a complete engine replacement at my own cost.

August 2024 check engine light illuminated and white smoke coming from exhaust. Upon inspection, it was determined coolant was leaking into a cylinder causing corrosion and intrusion of the coolant into the engine. The car had 111,426 miles with no warranty. I had the engine replaced at a cost of $5710. This was a known problem by Ford causing them to issue Technical Safety Bulletin 19-2208, but did not notify the consumers. There are several class action suits for this identical issue. The recent Ford recall of the 2.0 eco boost engine in other models should have also included the 2017 Ford Edge. Ford sold this vehicle knowing the coolant intrusion would cause critical engine failure while driving leading to possible catastrophic wrecks.

The service advisor informed us that engine needed to be replaced according to Ford's recommendation as per TSB22-2229. The repair cost for a known flawed design is $9,30000. If the engine seized up, serious accident could occur.

2017 Ford Edge Titanium with 61,000 miles had faulty engine installed during manufacturing and is experiencing the common issue as other Ford Customers. The vehicle is experiencing coolant intrusion into the engine, specifically cylinder #2. Ford has denied the replacement of the engine (even though the vehicle only has 61,000 miles) and expected to replace the long block engine for $9,809.59.

I bought the car used from a Ford Dealer in October 2024. The car had a clean CARFAX and solid maintenance history and just under 40,000 miles at time of purchase. In December 2024, there were several instances of rough idle at time of cold start that quickly cleared. In January 2025, it stopped blowing heat. My local garage found it was low on coolant but could not identify a leak. A few more days of driving showed continued loss of coolant. I brought it back to dealer I bought it from and their service department confirmed there was coolant in the engine cylinders and a full engine replacement was needed - a condition consistent with Ford's Technical Service Briefing issued in 2019. I AM IN NEED OF A SECOND ENGINE REPLACEMENT SINCE THIS VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW. SAME SYPTOMS AND SAME PROBLEM AS CONFIRMED BY FORD DEALERSHIP. COOLANT INTRUSION ON CYLINDER 3. CODES P0303 AND P0316. THIS IS A KNOWN DESIGN FLAW FOR THE 2.0 ECOBOOST ENGINE. A NEW ENGINE BLOCK WAS REDESIGNED IN 2019 TO ADDRESS THIS KNOWN PROBLEM.
