The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an engine misfire with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was restarted; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine block needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 79,567.
The check engine light would intermittently light up and then go out for a few months prior to system failure. In the week prior to failure, we took the vehicle to AutoZone and used their engine code scanner to try to diagnose the problem. Based on the result of that, we first changed the spark plugs, which initially made the check engine light turn off for about a week, then it came back on. We then replaced the ignition coils, the check engine light never went out. A couple of days after that, while I was driving home from work one morning, the check engine light started to flash at me, which it had not done before, the car started shaking, and the RPM pin started dancing but would not exceed 2000RPM. We took it to the dealership where they diagnosed a coolant intrusion in cylinder 2 and told us...
I took my Ford edge to the service department of Pine belt Ford. They let me know that there was a crack in my engine block, causing coolant to leak into the engine.
I have been told that 2017 Ford Edge has a leaking gasket and that coolant is seeping into the engine and mixing with oil. Ford is telling me I need to replace the whole engine. Cost is $9200. They are telling me not to drive it. I guess this has been a problem with many similar Ford engines. Not sure why this is not covered by recall. Basically I am going to have to trash 7 year old car with 85,000 miles on it. I am very disappointed that Ford is not stepping up. I am also surprised that the NHTSA hasnt extended the recall to this model.
My 2017 Ford Edge developed a crack in the long block of the engine. This led to coolant leaking into the block and causing the engine to idle roughly. The service engine light was constantly on and the long block had to be replaced. When I asked the mechanic if the new engine assembly was the same, he said that Ford had beefed the new ones up because they new they had problems with the old ones. Total cost was over $5300
2.0 eco boost motor. Intrusion of coolant into the 1st and 2nd cylinder. Superior warranty and Ford company refuse to take any responsibility of this issue. It is a known issue and it has cost me $6624 and it is hard enough to have to buy 2nd hand car but 3 days after this issue arises. As is vehicle. Ford should be liable. 111k miles at time of repair. Started as fuel issues per Starks where bought car to spark plugs and coils to motor and fly wheel.
I had my engine replaced last year due to cylinders misfiring and leaking coolant into the engine. 1 year later, the check engine light came on again. It turns out the new engine had the same problem and also had to be replaced. Coolant leaking into the engine could have caused the engine to get too hot and could have resulted in a fire. The dealer confirmed the issue was the same as what happened last year and has already replaced the engine (for a second time). This time it was covered under the new warranty, last time it wasn't. The dealer confirmed the issue when they inspected the car. This time, I only knew something was wrong when the check engine light came on, otherwise the car seemed to drive without issue.
My 2017 Ford engine had a catastophic failure and required replacement. Sequence of events: January 8 2024, Check Engine light came on and at 99350, the spark plugs were replaced to correct . March 12 2024, Check Engine light came on again at 100900, the coils were replaced to correct. March 19 2024, Catastropic Engine light came while driving on interstate 75, the engine block cracked and was replaced. While replacing the engine it was noted that the Power Take Off Asy-s was also defective and needed replacement. As things progressed it was learned that Ford knew of an engine design failure but did not issue a recall. Fortunately the interste highway engine failure did not cause an accidentbut easily could have. I am currently asking Ford for reimbursement of the enging and Asy-s.
A check engine light appeared after a couple rough idle starts. I took it in to have the code read and it was a Cylinder 2 misfire. It was explained that it was not a big deal, just needed to replace spark plugs. I replaced spark plugs (car has 65K miles), picked the car back and the problem still existed. Took it back in with the same check engine code of Cylinder 2 misfire, this time the replaced a ignition coil. Picked it up and still had the same issue, and I took it back and they replaced the fuel injector. After the fuel injector was replaced, 2 days later I was driving it home still having the same exact issues of when I originally took it in rough, misfiring start the car over heated. I shut the car off and seen that I had zero coolant. I put coolant...
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle however, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 126,000.
Enginge defect, ecoboost 2.0, Coolant intrusion
Check engine light is still on after incurring approx. $1K+ in other repairs within the last 6 months. Took it to dealership whose invoice states, "Verified customer concern of check engine light and low coolant. Performed coolant pressure test and found cylinder #2 to have coolant intrusion." Apparently a TON of other 2017 Ford Edge owners have had the same exact issue at various points of the car's lifespan [XXX] ). I don't know how this hasn't become a recall by now. Estimate of repair is $10.5K+ and the car is only 7 years old. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The issue is with the ECO BOOST. on 8/23/24 Helena Motors diagnosed the issue as coolant intrusion into the cylinder. A check engine light came on and off several times. Each time the vehicle was inspected by the dealership and finally the issue identified in August.
I maintained my vehicle according to what dealership told me. I only had the dealership that sold me the vehicle, do all mtce since I purchased it. My engine light came on so I took it in to determine what the issue was. They indicated I had a mis fire and there was coolant in one of the cylinders so I needed a new engine. Upon learning this, I did some internet research to find out many many people have had the same issue. There are also TSBs that Ford put out to dealers but not consumers of a known defect in engine block design that makes it a high risk for the failure I experienced. My dealer or Ford never communicated any risk to me. This Engine should have been recalled!!!
Our engine failed soon after a Ford dealership looked at our Edge. They told us there were some issues, but they did not tell us they were immediately needed. We drove a month or so, and the engine light came on. We immediately called, and the earliest they could get us in was a few weeks out. So we tried to treat it gently. It died Friday due to coolant intrusion into the 2nd cylinder. Had they told us there was something urgent we could have done to repair it, we would have. The dealership says they would have only covered up to 100k miles as standard for powertrain. They admit nothing about the fact that their Ecoboost engines 1.5, 1.6, and 2.0 all have major problems and many of which have been recalled, some my year. They are quoting me $10k to fix, and they can only put the...
In early 2024 my 2017 Ford Edge began experiencing overheating. The car began slowing speeds to compensate for engine becoming too hot. Upon further investigation it was determined that my 2017 Ford Edge engine had a design flaw created by Ford Motor Company Being a retired widowed female, this was very upsetting for me. I did not have 6200.00 to replace my engine. I beleive the right thing to do is always doing the right thing. So I beleive Ford Motor Company should be held accountable, given this is their bad engine design flaw. Owners of the this model as well as other years and models of Fords have been affected. Do we have to have a fatality to recieve help? I tried to download docs. and class action lawsuits against Ford but unable to. But if I can see the class action lawsuits so can Ford. PLEASE do the...
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed and DTC code: P0301 (cylinder #1 misfire) was retrieved, and a coolant leak was found. The contact was advised by the local dealer that the long block might need to be replaced, which would replace the engine and the failure was linked to TSB: 22-2229. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 64,000.
My engine light came on and the purge valve was replaced. I have 71k miles on my edge. Two weeks later the light came back on and on my way to the Ford service department, I started to get warnings of coolant leaking into engine, the car was powering down and i barely it there. I was told that I need a new engine at $8,500! I just put new tires on, new brakes and rotors, new wipers and replaced a purge valve, all for thousands of dollars. I don’t have $8,500 so I am out a vehicle!!! I borrowed my friend’s ford edge 2018 with 29k and within 3 weeks the engine light came on and I was driving it to be checked out with his mechanic to have it completely power down with the same frightening message of coolant leaking into the engine. Both our cars are sitting...
COOLANT LEAKING INTO CYLINDER. ENGINE HAS 72,440 MILES. ENGINE SHOULD NOT NEED REPLACEMENT. COMMENT ISSUES WITH FORD EDGE
Coolant is leaking into my cylinders causing misfire and potentially hazardous issues to my vehicle. There are only 69,000 miles on my vehicle. It is low mileage by industry standards. This will be more than a $9,000 repair which is devasting to our finances. This is a design flaw, a manufacturer flaw and it is dangerous both physically/mechanically and financially to the owner.
My spark plugs need to be changed every 6 months. Eventually had to get a new engine because of it. I have 5000 miles on the new engine and already had to get new spark plugs today again. Please recall this!!
The contact's daughter owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while turned on and running on multiple occasions, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced due to coolant intrusion. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 73,533.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made abnormal grinding sounds. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the high-pressure fuel pump had failed, causing metal shavings to enter the engine. The dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Check engine light came on after running rough and having white smoke . FOrd dealer has confirmed that TSB 22-2229 issue is definite - Pulled cylinder #2 spark plug and found coolant intrusion in the cylinder. Recommend replacement of the engine - $8700 to replace - not covered by ford.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with coolant intrusion and engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.
The vehicle engine has a design flaw, the head gasket on all Ford eco-boost engines made in 2017 will inevitably break do to an unsecure seal to the top of the engine, this is because of the newly implemented cooling channels in between each cylinder, causing the inevitable failure of the engine
The motor has failed and possibly could be a manufacturing defect according to the mechanic. He has several instances of this model of car that the motor failed prematurely costing owners thousands of dollars to install a new motor! Also, stated that the car should be immediately not driven due to the defect in the motor and could fail and even lock up or overheat putting the driver in danger due to possible fire. The check engine light did come on. The little wrench icon came on. The estimate to replace the entire engine is $4700.
My edge has been experiencing flex plate issues since 106,000 miles. It’s considered a CSP through ford there is a recall but my specific car “isn’t affected” this needs to be recalled so I can get it fixed. If this cracks all the way it could cause a fatal accident and there would be law suits. This is a huge safety concern, and needs to be pushed further as my car has the same type of flex plate as the other edges that have been recalled.
Car was at a red light. Started to pull into traffic and the car stalled which could have resulted in an accident. We have since found out that "coolant intrusion" is a known issue with "Ecoboost" engines by Ford.
I took my Ford Edge in for a routine oil change in March 2024 and I received a call from the dealership that my car had an internal coolant leak. The technician told me this was a well known issue with these Ford engines and I need to replace the engine and it would cost approximately $10,000. I have seen that other cars with engines like mine have been recalled but my VIN was not on the recall list. I called Ford and was told they could not help me but I should save all receipts in case it gets added to the recall list. I believe that this should be taken care of by the Ford Corporation as it is a known engine defect and not caused by standard use of the vehicle.
replaced spark plugs and ignition coil, keep getting misfire on cyclnder 2. Having to replace coolant every few days. Lots of research this is a known issue with 2.0 eco boost motor. How has nothing been done yet?
Long block failure causing coolant intrusion into cylinders. Ford has Tsb out on it
Approximately one week after seeing the CHECK ENGINE light appear, I had a Ford dealership service center examine my vehicle and do diagnostic testing at a cost of $180. I was told coolant was leaking into cylinder 1. They informed me that TSB 22-2229 detailed the problem, and the only solution was a long block replacement. I received a second opinion from an independent service center at a cost of $130. The answer was the same. Other than the warning light, the only evidence of a problem was some rough running of the engine on start-up on occasion.
My daughter was driving me in my 2017 Ford Edge AWD. We didn’t get very far and noticed a burning smell and a lot of smoke coming out of the exhaust; there was no engine light or warnings on the display. The burning smell got intense and my daughter was having burning sensations in her nose and eyes. She immediately turned the car around and went back to my house. After turning off the ignition, we still saw smoke coming out of the exhaust and was afraid the car was going to catch fire and possibly damage my carport. It did not catch on fire, but we were very scared by the incident and it took awhile for my daughter to recover from the smoke issues. The car was towed to the dealership from where I purchased the car and they said that the antifreeze had been pushed through two...
Engine light started flashing 5mins after driving on a busy freeway. Had to pull over to allow engine to cool with children in the car. Topped off coolant. Over the next week, the leak continued. Took the car to my mechanic who was unable to replicate the issue. Warning lights continued to flash and coolant continued to leak. Took car back to mechanic who advised engine block intrusion common to Fords. Advised TSB for certain Ford vehicles (2017 Ford Edge 2.0 included) plagued by a defect that causes coolant to leak into the engine cylinders, leading to a host of problem. Reported the problem to Ford who advised me to bring the car to run diagnostics (for a $200 fee). Confirmed engine long block issue and $9700 to fix.
My check engine light came on, started idling rough, code said spark plugs, vehicle would not start so changed spark plugs and one was gunked up, vehicle started but clouds of white smoke coming out of back and coolant low. Coolant flowing into oil. This is apparently the issue with the 2.0 EcoBoost engine that should have a recall! Only 127000 miles.
Our 2017 Ford Edge is equipped with an EcoBoost engine. This engine has a defect that causes coolant to leak into the engine’s cylinders which can cause corrosion, oil dilution and contamination, and engine failure. This defect creates a safety risk because the lack of coolant created by the leaks causes overheating and can result in the cylinder head cracking, total engine failure, and/or engine fires. We took our vehicle to the Ford dealership on 7/17/24 because it was misfiring and losing power while driving. The dealership informed us that the coolant had in fact been leaking into the engine and we would need a new engine rebuild at a cost of $8,200. There were no warning lights and nothing else to indicate any issue was present until it was too late.

Coolant intrusion
2017 Ford Edge, purchased this vehicle brand new, 2 days ago was driving and car became overheated suddenly, temperature attempted to decrease via the power and within 1 hour it was in the Ford Dealership being looked at. I was told it had an engine coolant leakage problem that would require a complete replacement of a brand new long block engine; approximately $10k in repairs. I did not have extended warranty on this vehicle and the manufacturers warranty covered 5yr/60k miles. I've found thousands of other consumers with this exact issue. Ford knows it's a defect in these engines but refuses to make it an official recall. My car that was worth approx 10-13k is now worth nothing and will be sold at auction. Shame on you, Ford.
Problem with check engine light and coolant issue. After weeks of diagnostics, eventually was told car needed completely new engine. After google search, found hundreds of people with this exact issue of Ford vehicles with the engine.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while having a routine oil change, the check engine warning light illuminated. While driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light flashed on and off. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that cylinder #3 had misfired and there was coolant leaking and recommended that the engine be replaced. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic, who replaced the ignition coils and spark plugs. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic, who determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 137,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle shuddered at slower speeds with excessive white smoke coming from the exhaust. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated the vehicle was scanned at a local Auto Zone where it was diagnosed with cylinder #1 failure and other unknown failures. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.
Cold start misfires in cylinder 1. Check engine light came on. Dealer inspection found coolant intrusion. Coolant pressure test confirmed coolant leaking into cylinder. Ford recommends replacing engine. The vehicle has 61,069 miles.
My vehicle began overheating suddenly. I took it to a mechanic and he says it’s a coolant leak into the cylinders and may require head gasket replacement or full engine replacement. Ford has a TSB on this very issue that they are well aware of. The TSB number is 22-2229. I spoke to a local dealer and they told me because my vehicle has 68000 miles on it, I’m over the 60k warranty from the manufacturer. I’ve only had this vehicle for 2 years and I only drive about 15 miles a day. Why is this not been issued as a mandatory recall for these vehicles? I can’t afford a new engine on a car I still owe $18000 on. I know that there have been several complaints about this from other owners. Please help to escalate this to an actual recall.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the vehicle was shaking and vibrating abnormally with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that coolant was intruding into the cylinders, causing severe damages to the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000.
Took car to dealer because of check engine light. Was told coolant leaked into engine and engine needs to be replaced. Have since learned it’s a known/common issue happening to many Fords with EcoBoost engines. Car only has approx. 53,000 miles on it.
Engine miss fire cylinder number 4 and coolant leak with no visible leak anywhere but now adding half gallon of coolant every couple days. Was told about possible recall of ecoboost 2.0l engine on 2017 ford edge with a coolant leak/miss fire of engine causing destruction of the engine and or causing a fire with the car.
