I have already filed a report on my 2017 Ford Edge, I wanted to add this statement Ford made. Recall Programs A recall is conducted to remedy a Safety, Compliance, or Emissions concern. Recalls are Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)-specific programs. There are no expiration dates on Safety Recalls or Safety Compliance Recalls. Also, there are generally no expiration dates on Emission Recalls or Emission Compliance Recalls. Reasons for holding Ford Motor Company accountable. Thank you.
The component that has failed is the engine. It is available upon request to be inspected. I believe the safety issue lies in that the motor overheats and is possibly a fire risk. I have had my car engine inspected by an ASE mechanic and confirmed engine block needs replaced. The car was determined to have an issue by engine check light. Needed to constantly replace Coolant, was found to be leaking into cylinders. According to report from ASE mechanic, date of issue on report June 09, 2022 2015-2018 FORD EDGE, FORD FUSION and MKC listed on TSB. ISSUE SUMMARY, Some 2015-2018 EDGE and 2017-2019 FUSION/MKZ/ESCAPE/MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0 l EcoBoost engine may exhibit low coolant level, white exhaust smoke, runs rough. DTC {codes} include P0300, P0301-P0304,P0316,P0217, P1285 and or P1299 stored in control module. To correct condition follow service procedure to replace the long block engine assembly.
I have a 2017 Ford Edge 2.0L Eco Boost Engine and it has 71,559.8 miles on it. It has started to burn Coolant in cylinder 1, has white smoke coming out of exhaust, runs ruff and idles ruff and my engine light is on since this has started. It all started last week driving to work.
I have coolant entering in to one of the cylinders. This is a design flaw by ford. Now my veichle is not starting because it seased up and sitting in a repair shop and need a engine swap with a cost of $8.000
The engine is malfunctioning. Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The engine could fail, loss of power, if while passing a vehicle on 2 lane highway a major loss of coolant, overheating due to loss of coolant. Result could be major damage to engine and or fire or both resulting in an accident . The problem has been confirmed by both a Ford dealership and an independent service center. The vehicle engine has been inspected by a Ford dealership in Jacksonville Fl. The engine warning light has come on several times since late 2022 or early 2023. This is when it 1st appeared. 2 dates are significant here: 3/28/23 an engine diagnostic completed due to engine light on, a slight mist detected into cylinder one. 2/19/24 another engine diagnostic completed at Autonation Ford in Jacksonville FL. Confirmed to me by telephone conversation that coolant is leaking into...
Check engine light came on so I made an appointment and drove the vehicle to Peoria Ford. They said CODE P0302 IN PCM, FOUND TSB FOR CONCERN [XXX], PRESSURE TEST COOLING SYSTEM FOUND COOLANT LEAKING FROM CYLINDER 2, RECOMMEND ADDRESS TSB AND RETEST This could cause a misfire, overheat, or vehicle to catch fire. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
After I started noticing rough idle and white smoke from exhaust my check engine light came on. Took to Fayetteville Ford in Fayetteville Ga to diagnose and repair. They told me that they discovered coolant in #2 cylinder, a well known and documented design problem, and the only fix was to replace the engine at a cost to me of $9000!
The check engine light gave codes P0302 & P0316 and I had noticed the coolant level being low. After doing some research, I see that Ford issued a TSB 22-2229 as the fix for the problem which includes a new engine block because of a poor design for the coolant flow causing the block to crack. This should fall on to Ford to repair rather than people that expect and need their vehicle to last.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. Additionally, the engine overheated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with coolant leaking into the cylinder and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that coolant was leaking into the cylinder and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed that the vehicle was out of warranty and that there was no active recall on the VIN regarding the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to report the failure to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.
Check engine light comes back on after several return trips to repair shop and several thousand dollars in repair cost. Issue is misfires. Plugs and coils have been replaced several times, as well as starter sensor but the problem persists. I understand this is an ongoing issue with countless 2017 Ford Edge owners. Not only is it costly, but the main issue is with safety as the engine may lose power while in transit, risking a hazardous situation for the occupants of the vehicle as well as other vehicles on the road. Just last week I brought the vehicle for yet another cylinder 1 misfire, to a different shop. It cost me $585 to repair. Two days ago the same cylinder started misfiring. Bringing it back to the shop yet again.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with coolant intrusion in the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 43,200.
So the ecoboost engine in my 2017 ford edge has coolant intrusion in #1 cylinder at about 120,000mi which apparently is a known defect and happening to many others with ecoboost engines from 2015 to 2018. Yes available for inspection upon request. Safety? I don't know what happens if I keep driving which I have to because the recommended fix is a replacement engine which is $8,050. I've read many other comments from other people who are also stuck paying for a vehicle they can't or shouldn't be driving. Yes confirmed by a dealership service department. No not inspected by manufacturer, police, or insurance representative. Yes check engine light came on months ago when first checked out by same dealer was told I needed a powertrain control module. Please make ford take responsibility for this. Everyday people can not afford this and leaves us basically screwed.
2017 Ford Edge 2.0 Ecoboost engine failed. Car is 6 years old and two shops have confirmed it needs to be totally replaced due to coolant intrusion. Currently still drivable, but is burning through Coolant and per dealership can be a fire hazard. Confirmed by Ford dealership. Check engine light turned on and car has 72,000 miles.
I have a 2017 Ford Edge, and the check engine light came on while driving. Per the Ford dealership service dept, there is an internal coolant leak into cylinder #2 causing engine to misfire. Also, coolant is mixing with the oil. I was told I need a new engine. Ford dealership said they were seeing many others with the same issue. Please hold Ford accountable. This is creating a serious financial hardship for me and countless others.
I bought a brand new Ford Edge in 2017 with a warranty of 5 years and 60,000 miles. Several weeks ago, my car turned the engine light on and began having difficulty staying on during idle time and at stop signs. Immediately, I took it to the dealer and they diagnosed the problem of a leakage of coolant into the cylinders. They quoted me for an amount greater than the trade in value of the vehicle. From my online research, other customers are having the same leakage recurrent issue for Ford Edges between 2016-2023. The dealer could not tell me the reason behind this leakage causing the engine to overheat. This coolant leakage happening to a lot of their vehicles is putting individuals in danger of fire, explosion, or the vehicle stopping at any movement even while driving. There is absolutely no indication that this leakage was caused by poor...
The motor is liking oil to block and smoke come out from the back. And it lose power. The insurance said the a manufacturer defolte. I have paid $2000.00 for insurance and now the companies or the insurance want to fix it. Please help me.
Had oil change on [XXX]. [XXX] check engine light intermittently came on, vehicle runs rough and rattling noise under vehicle, then vehicle was blowing smoke out of exhaust. Took to dealership ran oasis TSB[XXX]. Found that underbody shield was loose from worn retainers. Also, removed spark plugs found coolant present in multiple cylinders. Required engine replacement. Ford Service bulletin 22- gave specific instructions on oil changes to this model vehicle to avoid this issue. My cousin in Roanoke VA has the same 2017 Ford Edge and had the same issue resulting in complete engine replacement. Also heard several other people in different areas had same issue of coolant present in cylinders with their Ford Edge. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
My check engine light came on, took it to the dealer for an inspection, The code was p0302, miss firing of Cylinder 2. The dealer did the inspection and I was told I need a new engine because the coolant is leaking into my engine and there is no way to fix it unless, i get a whole new engine. Ford told me I could keep driving the car until the check engine light flashes at me, when that happens the car is dead. I google this issue and it turns out there is an issue with the ford engine that is 2.0 liter Ecoboost, but there is no recall on the engine, which is something major and a car with only 35,000 should not need a new engine.
The check engine light went on so I took it to the Ford Dealership. They couldn't find an immediate problem so they scheduled me for an appointment the next week. I dropped the car off today and they had it all day, finally dropping the bombshell that there was a coolant leak into cylinder 2 and I need an entirely new engine for $7k or I could sell my car and buy a new one. I'm still in shock and am doing research and apparently this is a HUGE documented problem: [XXX] and [XXX] I have been saving money to take my [XXX] parents and my 13 and 9 year old sons to Ireland in July and I am beside myself because now I can't afford it. Please don't let Ford get away with this. My car is 6 years old with 70k miles on it, I shouldn't need a...
Check engine light keeps turning on and off, took it to Ford to get diagnosed. There’s a coolant leak into the cylinder 2 causing a misfire and a cracked gasket. Whole engine needs to be replaced to fix this issue, over $6500 worth of repairs that I cannot afford and Ford won’t help with costs. My car is still currently drivable but isn’t safe to drive long distance as it could break at any time while I have myself and 16 month old child in the vehicle. I have a website with other Ford Edge owners having the same engine issue and needing to replace them. This is the link; [XXX] Please hold Ford accountable to announce a recall on the engine. The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with coolant intrusion in cylinders #2 and #3 and a failed engine assembly. The contact was informed that the engine assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 106,963.
Coolant in engine. Purchased used, put 3500 miles on car. Now 110208. Sitting at ford dealer, waiting for response from dealer who sold it to us with known issues. Took car in because heater was not working. There were not any warning lights on.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with coolant loss. The dealer performed a coolant pressure test and determined that coolant was leaking into the head gasket. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously taken to the dealer for the recurring failure; however, the cause of the failure could not be determined. The dealer had previously replaced the spark plugs, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 27,425.
I have a 2017 Ford Edge with a 2.0 Ecoboost motor that was recently diagnosed (by Ford) as needing a new engine due to Coolant Intrusion into cylinder #4. The car has only 57,000 miles and is said to have a known manufacturing defect that causes this. Fortunately I reported this issue to the dealer before it got too severe; however I've been told that the car can catch on fire due to overheating or stop altogether on the freeway because of this issue. From what I've also read Ford has numerous cars equipped with this engine and have thousands of complaints regarding it, though they refuse to do anything to remedy the situation. I therefore would like to report the situation to the NHTSA out of an abundance of caution for myself, family, and other motorists that could be impacted by this.
Driving my car this year in April 2023. My car overheated while driving. I pulled over and checked the coolant it was bone dry, thankfully I had more in my car which I refilled. I brought my car to a friend that was a mechanic and he told me my coolant was leaking into the cylinder. I brought it to the Ford dealership to confirm his findings. I was told the same thing along with I need a nrw engine. I bought the car in Feb 2021 paid 17,000. It had 75000 miles on it. I haven't been able to get it repaired I was quoated around $5600. Ford has thousands of unhappy consumers in the same situation with needing a new engine. Ford will not do a recall and they kept selling cars with faulty engines. 2015-2018 Ford Edge and other models. This is not fair to thier customers!!!!!
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that there was coolant leaking from a crack in cylinder #3, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 68,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with coolant intrusion in cylinder #3. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.
Our 2017 Ford Edge experienced engine problems that are linked to a service recall Ford Motor Company issued on 2016 - 2018 Ford Edge vehicles related to coolant leaks & head gasket failures. Ford is refusing to fully cover costs to replace the engine which was inspected by an authorized Ford Dealership service department & determined to have coolant entering engine cylinder. Providing clear evidence that the engine is failing under the same pretense as the recall issued by Ford. Out of pocket costs to replace were $4,833.12 paid to McMullen Ford. We are seeking reimbursement of out of pocket costs.
The component that failed was the long block and is currently available for inspection. The date when the issue 1st appeared was Nov 20 2023. The issue has since been isolated as a coolant leak in my cylinders and Ford is very aware of the issue and has a TSB 22-2229 discussing some of the symptoms. The coolant intrusion compromised the motors ability to react to demand for power. The vehicle shakes while idling and has faltered when trying to gain entry onto on-ramps for I-20. The failure of the vehicle to meet the power requirements asked of it to merge and the sudden loss of power nearly left my vehicle rear ended with both my toddler and my teenager present. The check engine light illuminated showing a code of P0301 for a cylinder 1 miss-fire. All 4 spark plugs were replaced in an attempt to fix the issue. The...
Coolant leaking into engine cylinder. Vehicle only has 53,000 miles on it. Needs new engine. Going to be like $8,000. Not sure how they can expect middle class to pay for what they’ve done wrong. I have personally only put 4,000 miles on it. Purchased it in July.
Transmission, coolant infusion to engine Emissions, long block torqu converter failed even though i had multiple appointments to have this and the other recalls done they always canceled the appointments due to lack of parts or they were backed up in the service department. I had the majority of all (the works) oil changes done at the dealership unless they were weeks out, I complained of engine running hot and knocking sounds back in 2021, needed to be jumped every few months 2022 I was always told this was normal for a edge ecoboost with the cold weather package, they did check the battery which was fine, when the engine light came on I took it right in only to be told to make a appointment, soon after I started to lose power going up sm hills, I was told I needed new tires after this oil change and I even...
While driving our engine light came on, we took it to our mechanic and they determined that anti-freeze was low and possibly leaking into the engine. It is causing a misfire cylinder 1 and the time before cylinder 3. I read of similar problems with other peoples 2017 Edge. I don't want to have to replace my engine.
After putting gas in the vehicle, the vehicle was acting sluggish. It did not want to start and after it did it wasn't going full speed. I proceeded to leave the gas station and no sooner did the vehicle started to sputter and 'died' while making a U-turn. I am afraid that this will cause in accident if not remedied. I don't understand that off the Ford Focus was having this issue why is this not on recall for this vehicle. I will be calling and writing to Ford on this issue. I would like this to be mentioned and I took my vehicle to Yeoman Ford of The Villages in Belleview. This is disgraceful how a part can be defective and yet not covered in another vehicle with the same issue. I would like for A Supervisor to help with this problem to please and thank you.
Coolant leaks in to the motor totally ruining the motor, overheating and leaving people on the side of the road. In some cases catching on fire. There has been lemon cases filed and class action lawsuits. Families are left without a vehicle and ruined credit due to not being able to replace motors and other parts needed out of pocket. Ford needs to be held reliable!
My vehicle's check engine light came on, so I took it to my dealer. They took a look and they said they found that the coolant was down. Upon further diagnosis, my vehicle needs a new engine. This is a know problem with the 2.0 Ecoboost engine. I found a TSB on this problem through the nhtsa.gov website, which tells me they know there is a problem. I contacted Ford and because I do not have a history of purchasing new vehicles, they couldn't offer any good will financial assistance. I am more than willing to help pay for some of the repair, as is my dealer. Ford knows that there is a problem with this engine, and will not help correct it. It has created a very difficult financial situation for my family, as I have 3 young children.
My 2017 ford edge started running rough and almost dying. Low rpms. The engine cracked allowing antifreeze to leak into the cylinders causing it to miss and overheat. Ford put out a service bulletin TSB#22-2229 addressing the "coolant intrusion" problem. So far they have not issued a recall.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who discovered a misfire in cylinder #3, as well as a minor oil leak. The spark plugs were replaced; however, the check engine and coolant warning lights both flashed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken back to the mechanic where it was discovered that the coolant level was low due to coolant leak into cylinder #3. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure; however, the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the VIN. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
Faulty head / head gasket allowed water intrusion into the cylinder.
My 2017 Ford Edge has a coolant leak into cyllinder 4 of the engine, which requires an entire replacement of the engine (approx $8k cost + labor). This is a clearly known issue (just a few links below but many other issues on google) and should require a recall. It does not seem fair for there to be a known issue like this and to expect Ford customers to pay out of pocket. 2017 Ford Edge Eco Boost - 75,300 miles (low) (purchased new) My vehicle had a rough start one morning, the next day the check engine light came on. I took it to the Ford Dealership and they said there was COOLANT INTRUSION in CYLINDERS #2 and #4 which had caused catastrophic engine failure. Full replacement is needed. This is a known issue, an engine defect the mechanic said. There have been HUNDREDS of complaints for this same issue. This isn't right. I only have 75,000 on this car, it should last 200,000 miles. I paid full price for the car but only get to use 37.5 % of the estimated usage. Doesn't seem like a fair trade.
Check engine light came on and had mechanic look at it and it was diagnosed as an electrical "misfire" issue. We were told to take the Edge to the dealership to get fixed. Scheduled a service appointment with the dealership soon after, and the dealership called me that afternoon and diagnosing issue as the coolant intrusion on caliber #3 is defective. Dealership said we need a new engine, and it's going to cost thousands of dollars. It was not covered under any warrantees. We bought the car used less than a year ago. We are so frustrated to say the least. Looking up this diagnosis online there are thousands of other owners that had the same problem. Yet, Ford hasn't rectified the problem or offered a recall for those with the same diagnosis. This is causing large dollar amounts for repairs for owners all over the USA and putting a...
Defective engine design allows coolant to infiltrate into the cylinder combustion chamber.
Check engine light came on after rough start. Had dealership check 9/28 and coolant is leaking into the 2nd cylinder requiring engine replacement. 71K Miles on car.
Head gasket is bad causing coolant leak into cylinder 2. Causing engine to overheat and not run properly. Ford Dealership told me engine needs to be replaced. The engine design is bad and the issue will just continue without a newly designed engine block (2019 or newer). They want me to pay $8,500 to replace their poorly designed engine. Car is at 136,000 miles. Most of which are highway miles.
Engine 2.0 had coolant leak at 71k miles went off extended warranty a month before this was January 2023 we took to ford was informed it need a new engine. On driving it home truck was overheating and turbo charger was glowing red. Had it towed to HCC college auto shop where it sits. Ford motor company has put out many service bulletin on this series of engine but done nothing to remedy problem. Why isn't this engine recall due to faulty design.
Engine coolant began getting into the cylinders causing the car to shake upon start-up. Trusted mechanics have told me this is a known issue with this type of engine. They are saying the engine needs to be replaced at a cost upwards of $8,000 All regular maintenance on this vehicle is up to date, and it is an engine flaw that is causing this. Ford needs to be responsible for engine replacement. There are multiple Ford Edge owners with the same complaint.
My Ford Edge started running rough with white smoke from the tailpipe then a check engine light came on with the codes P0316 and P0301. Dealer stated that there was a coolant intrusion into the engine and the engine would need to be replaced.
Engine coolant began getting into the cylinders causing white smoke and the car to shake upon start-up. This would result in the engine failing emissions testing and worse. In talking with multiple mechanics I have been told that this is a known issue with this type of engine. The car is just over 5 years old and has 66,000 miles but now needs most of the engine replaced. All regular maintenance on this vehicle was up to date, and it is an engine flaw that is causing this, yet Ford is not willing to assist in the engine replacement.
This is regarding reference number 830243. We took our car to the dealership in Huntington Beach California for a recall regarding the flex plate being cracked. The dealership asked if there were issues to the acceleration and if the car was shaking, I said yes. They said it may be the flex plate and to bring it in. We received notification that the flex plate was not cracked, but the torque converter was the issue. This make and model, built at the Oakville Plant in May 2017 has previously had flex plate recall. We are assessing why our vehicle was not under that recall. I have spoke to an agent at NHTSA who stated that the manufacturer is in charge of the recall roll out and what vin numbers are covered. I called Ford, who I assumed to be the manufacturer of the Ford Edge Vehicle and they explained to...
Rough start up with white smoke coming out of the exhaust. Then when on the highway around 70mph vehicle rapidly decreased in speed and would not accelerate. I was able to get the vehicle home and then it would not start again. Had it towed to a Ford Dealership where they stated that coolant was leaking into cylinder #2 and the engine would need to be replaced with an estimated cost of $8800 plus taxes. NHTSA needs to force Ford into a recall with all of the issues with the 2.0L Ecoboost engine.
