The vehicle has a blown head gasket on its 2.0L ecoboost engine. It has all the same codes as the other vehicles that are affected by the recall #20V469000. It is a 2017 Ford Edge. It is loosing coolant into cylinder number 3. I'm 8000 miles out of my warranty and they want $9600 to fix the issues. I can't understand why this vehicle is not part of the recall. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Coolant leak which is causing engine to overheat. This is a common problem with Fords but my VIN is not included. Has been confirmed by an independent service center. It’s a safety issue that could cause the vehicle to overheat and disable. I keep having to add coolant at times on side of road. I receive an engine coolant above temperature and a check engine light.
#11531758 |
Check engine light came on and the code was saying cylinder 3 was misfiring. After numerous tests it was determined coolant was leaking into the cylinder from a crack in the block. Doing my own research I found this is a known issue for this make and model and year of car, however FORD has refused to recall it. There is a TSB about it but nothing else. I had to pay $10,000 for the shop to put in another engine. Two days after I got it back the check engine light came on again only this time it said cylinder 2 was misfiring. Took it back to the shop that put in the engine and it turns out this engine also had a crack in the block and was leaking coolant into the cylinders. I am now without a car again and have to wait for another engine to...

The 2017 Ford Edge is leaking coolant into the engine, and the dealership says that the only remedy is to replace the engine because it cannot be repaired but will need to be replaced. We bought this car brand new from the Ford dealership and did not expect to have a major repair cost so soon after the warranty ended. We have five more months to complete our car payments, and we also just purchased the Ford Maverick. This makes us feel uncertain about Ford. I also discovered that this problem has been known to Ford since 2010 and has not been corrected. We only took this car to the Ford dealership for service since we purchased it in 2017. This will cost us severl thousands to replace the engine. Warranty ended at 60 k and the vihecule is now at about 70k.

I purchased my Ford Edge about 4 years ago at approximately 25000 miles from Tom Ahl in Lima Ohio. It currently has 73989 miles. I have been faithful in my maintenance of the vehicle. I started having rough start that last only briefly and made an appointment with my mechanic. He said the code was cylinder 3 and changed the coil pack. This did not resolve the problem. He then changed the spark plugs. Still did not resolve the issue. I took it to the Ford dealership which determined there was coolant leaking into the cylinders and the engine needed replaced. After doing some research, I learned this is a very common problem with the 2017 Ford Edge Eco boost 2.0 engine. Ford has know about the problem since 2010 and corrected it in 2020. Engines have failed and caught on fire due to this issue. I feel an engine...

Vehicle engine runs extremely rough and shakes the vehicle after starting the engine. White exhaust smoke is also observed and coolant levels are steadily dropping over time. A pungent unpleasant odor is present near the exhaust as well. Vehicle has been experiencing this issue since June 2022 and has progressively gotten worse. The check engine light was illuminated so a OBD-II code reader was utilized on July 2, 2022. The diagnostic codes P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0316, P1026, and P1285 were found. I have reason to believe that it is related to the issues related to the technical service bulletin (TSB) 22-2229. I am concerned about safety regarding this issue. My immediate concern falls on the poisonous gases produced when the engine is burning coolant putting the driver and others near the vehicle at risk. In addition, the vehicle is unreliable and the issue may cause other parts of the...

When starting the engine it would putter a bit before running smoothly. The engine light came on and I took it to Sunshine Ford in Newburgh, NY and they told me there is coolant in cylinder one of my engine and I need a new motor. They said there is a crack in the engine motor causing this. There is a technical service bulletin on this exact problem for this make and model. My car only has 85,000 miles on in. There should be a recall for this engine.

When starting my car the engine would putter for a bit before running smoothly. The engine light eventually came on and I took it to Sunshine Ford in Newburgh, NY. They told me there were two misfires when they hooked it up to the computer and they found coolant in cylinder one when they took the spark plug out. They told me I needed a whole new engine on my car with only 85,000 miles. I found out there is a technical service bulletin on this exact problem for my car and ford knows this is an issue. It should be a recall.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle was jerking while depressing the accelerator pedal with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was initially taken to an independent mechanic where spark plug #3 and engine coil were replaced. The failure recurred and the same parts were replaced a second time. The contact then discovered that the coolant reservoir was empty. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer who discovered a coolant leak inside the engine causing engine failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

As I approached 50,000 miles on my car, I started to notice the car rumbling when I turned it on. Increasingly, I also started to hear the sound of water rushing towards the front of the car upon starting the vehicle as well as occasionally when I would brake while driving. On a few occasions, it took me several attempts to start the vehicle, or I would need to hold the push to start button for a longer period of time to start the car. Shortly after reaching 50,000 miles, the check engine light came on. I brought it to my local mechanic who told me the problem was caused by a 3rd cylinder misfire, which could be due to a possible cracked gasket. He suggested that I bring it to the dealership where I purchased the car, and that they would be aware of the issue, as it is...

2017 Ford Edge SE, one owner vehicle, clean title, always maintained properly. The vehicle ran rough after startup and seemed to be lacking power during acceleration. A malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) did not display at that time. Recently, the vehicle has been running worse, blowing white exhaust smoke, especially after sitting overnight, and consuming coolant. The MIL finally displayed the morning of June 10th, 2023. The code is P0303. The vehicle has been diagnosed with a coolant intrusion issue on cylinder number three. A catastrophic failure of the engine, requiring removal and replacement of the long block which leaves the customer on the hook for thousands of dollars in parts and labor for a well know design flaw, which is apparent by the release of multiple technical service bulletins https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10162071-0001.pdf, https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10169807-0001.pdf, https://static.oemdtc.com/TSB/MC-10214126-0001.pdf, an updated engine design to replace the flawed engine https://fordauthority.com/2022/09/ford-2-0l-ecoboost-coolant-issue-and-fix-detailed-by-tech-video/, class action lawsuit https://www.fordecoboostlawsuit.com/, and countless forums and...

The 2.0 Ecoboost engine of our 2017 Ford Edge overheated at @65K miles leaving my wife stranded and the vehicle in danger of catching fire. We first noticed a check engine light @60K with diagnostic code P0301 cylinder misfire detected, so I replaced spark plugs and check engine light went out. At @63K check engine light came back on so thinking it was a bad tank of gas I added a fuel treatment and again the check engine light went out. At @64K miles the check engine light once again comes on and before I could get it in to our Ford dealer to figure out what is going with the car my wife got message on dash engine was overheating. After towing it to Ford dealer for a diagnosis of the problem we found out it was due to a coolant intrusion between cylinders 1 and 2 which caused...

The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while his grandmother was driving 35 MPH, the temperature gauge started rising quickly and she saw steam coming from under the hood. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The driver was able to park the vehicle at her friend's residence and called the contact to inspect the vehicle. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the coolant level was low, and added a gallon of coolant to the reservoir. The contact stated there was no evidence of a coolant leak on the ground. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the long block engine to be replaced due to coolant leaking into the engine cylinders. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with TSB: 22-2133. The manufacturer had been informed of...

1) Component failure is the engine block. I have 77K miles and have recently had my Check Engine light appear. After spending several hundred dollars to have sparkplugs and the Cylinder #2 tube replaced, the issue persisted. I then started to realize my coolant reservoir was very low, so I added coolant - but I noticed I was losing coolant on a daily basis, not only that, my engine, at start-up, was very, very rough with a lot of white smoke coming out of my exhaust. After doing some research, I then learned, that the problem is coolant intrusion into the #2 cylinder, which will require an entire engine replacement. Several times last week and this week I was driving and had my overheating warning flash on - my engine temperature gauge was in the red area as my engine was overheating due to loss of coolant. At one point,...

Known Ford Edge engine issue. my 2017 purchased new at 81K miles has engine coolant leaking into cylynder 2. Engine light code p0302 and p316. Miss fire on start up. At dealer and informed it needs new engine long block at a cost of $8400. It is out of warranty obviously and this is a serious issue that is well documented online. Ford needs to have a recall on this issue. Paid $46k for a car that is disposable at this point as I can not replace an engine.

Started with engine light and then diagnosis of cylinder 2 misfire. Replaced coil twice and went to ford dealership who tested it. Coolant intrusion in engine, engine failure. Engine has to be replaced. Ford is offering no assistance for a known defect in their engines. Could have blown on the highway causing injury to me or others

This is a coolant intrusion in cylinder 2. My cylinder would misfire while driving at high speeds on the highway. Also, alarms of overheating of the engine would pop up. I took it to a Ford dealer and confirmed that it is a coolant intrusion and they tvwould try to charge $7,800.00 plus tax for a manufacture design defect.

Engine light came on at 73,000 miles and stated engine misfire cylinder 1. Took to Ford service. They had to put 1 gallon of coolant in and drove for about a week. Still having issues and finally told about TSB 22-2229 and that a new engine would be needed. This is a known factory defect and the customer should not have to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket to replace an engine with low miles! Engine has not been replaced.

Most likely due to manufacturing defect or other issue related to, coolant is mixing into the engine cylinder causing a cylinder misfire. My vehicle is outside of the original manufacturer's warranty by about a year and now needs a new engine due to this defect. At 68,363 miles, there should not be a need for a new $6,000 plus tax engine with zero accountability or apology from Ford. This should have been a recall plain and simple and all costs associated with resolving this issue should be responsibility of the manufacturer. In June 2019, Ford issued a technical service bulletin of this known issue outlining the affected vehicles with a 2.0L EcoBoost engines, but did not communicate with affected owners or issue a recall to have this problem addressed nor do they offer a courtesy extension to the manufacturer's warranty for owners. While my family was lucky that we encountered...

My check engine light came on. The code was P0304. I had the spark plug and ignition coil replaced, but the check engine light came back on. The vehicle began to overheat. A technician was able to find that the coolant was leaking into the engine. I've taken it to a Ford dealership who confirmed this and has told me I need a new long block. The cost of this repair is over $9500. Upon researching this problem, it has been WELL documented since 2010 to be an issue with this engine, and NHTSA even issued a service bulletin about this issue with this year/make/model as of December 2019. The issue does not begin to happen until after the warranty period has passed, and the vehicle can catch fire with this defect. Knowing this issue exists, this engine needs to be recalled so that people do not need to worry...

My 2017 ford edge check engine light came on with an error code P0302 cylinder 2 misfire. I took it to a local mechanic who replaced the spark plugs and engine coils. Within 3 days the check engine light returned along with engine running rough. The mechanic discovered the same error code and decided the new engine coils were defective. 3 days later the same issue occurred. I have had my engine coils replaced 3 times. Today the mechanic completed a pressure test to discover that coolant is leaking into my engine and advised contacting ford as there has been a technical service bulletin by ford. I have now discovered this is a common issue with fords motor in the edge model and continuing to drive this vehicle will put myself and children in danger as there is a risk of engine fire.

About the car in January of 2022. I was told By more than one ford motor company service employee that ford motor company only installs new engines when an engine fails and has to be replaced. In a nine month period the car has had four new engines and two turbos. I learned after it needed the 2nd asylum. At the dealership who installed the 1st engine put a junk yard motor in it claiming it was new from Ford motor company. The parts numbers that are on the receipt are in fact ford motor company parts numbers. When the motor was taken out for the 2nd engine to be put in it I saw it with the service manager it had rushed all over it and a. Two thousand fourteen stamp on the back of it. They refuse to even acknowledge this and do anything about it. Meanwhile in...

We took our vehicle in due to a check engine light and rough start and idle. Upon inspection -Code #P0303 (Cal 3 Misfire) The technician noted no coolant in reservoir and no external leaks were noted. They said we need a new engine because of that internal coolant leak and referred us to the manufacture to in hopes of replacing the engine.- My safety and the safety of my family was put at risk because the engine for one could have actually caught fire or stalled while driving. - Yes the problem has been reproduced and confirmed by a dealer. - No, the vehicle has not been inspected by police or insurance. - No, warning lamps did not originally turn on. It came at a much later time after the problem had been going on for a while.

Approximately one month ago I noticed that my engine began running roughly upon a cold start. The engine was misfiring and running rough until the vehicle warmed up. Shortly afterwards, the Check Engine light came on. I took my vehicle to the original Ford Dealer for service. The Service Consultant contacted within a day with the following information: - Identified the Check Engine light as an Engine Misfire in cylinder X (I don’t recall) - Misfire was caused by coolant intrusion. I immediately asked if it was a head gasket. He said no, and proceeded to tell me: -Coolant is leaking into cylinder -There is a crack in the engine block between coolant passage and cylinder X - They have seen this in the past, and apparently is a known issue, and Ford has since fixed the design of this engine (EcoBoost 2.0L). - The extended warranty company denied the...

Very well known problem with the 2.0 echoboost engines coolant leaks causing cracks in the cylinders and engine failure. Could go up in flames and caused a staul when accelerating before diagnosis. Ford refuses to repair or recall and thousands are suffering because of this engine faulty design.

A check engine light came on in our 2017 Ford Edge 2.0L engine and the engine would shake when turning the car on. After taking it to the dealership, the car had two codes that came up: 0316 and 0302. After inspecting the car further, the diagnosis was that it was a blown head gasket. The car has 34,000 miles, and this issue should not happen this early. After some research, we learned that Ford Edge with our 2.0L engine, years 2016-2018, keep having this engine issue. Our understanding is this is a known issue due to the block design and the head gasket seal not being sized large enough. This problem was reproduced by the dealership and the recommendation is to replace the entire engine with a new 2.0L produced after 2018 when Ford redesigned the engine addressing the problem. The online community is complaining of having to deal...

The engine light came on to warn me of an engine problem. Come to find out there is a Technical Service Bulletin on this issue for many Fords. This has been confirmed by Ford dealer service center and Ford customer service. This first appeared about a month ago in my car. However, Ford refuses to help and is making people buy new engines. This should be a RECALL. It is terrible that Ford is not being forced to recall all vehicles with this potential problem and cover the costs for repair. They are reponsible for this safety issue.

When using the remote start feature the cabin smells like exhaust. This smell can be smelled coming through the vents into the car.

My engine has coolant intrusion, which makes the car more at risk for engine failure or can start on fire and the only way to fix is a whole new engine replacement. This vehicle only has 56,800 miles and ford isn’t willing to replace engine because it’s met its 5 year warranty period but has not meet the 60,000 warranty period. I use this vehicle to travel with my family and just thinking it could start on fire any time do to an engineer flaw is ridiculous. This vehicle poses safety concerns for many families and I hope you guys hold the manufacturer responsible for these issues.

The vehicle began making water sloshing sounds behind the dashboard and the check engine light came on. Upon inspection the mechanic found the car was very low on coolant. They had to add nearly 1 gallon back. The check engine light code was due to a cylinder misfire on start up. Ford has a bulletin 22-2229 detailing their knowledge of this exact issue. The dealership confirmed this is the issue this vehicle is experiencing. Had I continued to use the vehicle under these conditions, my engine could have experienced failure while driving. This could cause a serious accident putting the safety of passengers, pedestrians and other drivers at risk. While Ford acknowledges the existence of this issue, they have not made customers aware. This is Ford's description of this known issue- "Some 2015-2018 Edge and 2017-2019 Fusion/MKZ/Escape/MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L EcoBoost engine may exhibit a low coolant level,...
