2017 FORD EDGE Engine Problems

Coolant leaking into cylinder. Engine running rough and overheating. Available for inspection upon request. Risk of engine failure/power loss while driving. Confirmed by mechanic. Vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or other. No warning of this issue. Engine light on for purge valve issue at present time. Upon conducting research, this is a well-known issue with this engine (2.0 liter Ecoboost). Thank you for any help you're able to provide as this is a very expensive engine replacement or a practically useless vehicle I still owe $7,000 on.

My car is leaking coolant and the head gasket is blown and this car up to date. From what I’ve read, this is a common occurrence amongst Ford Edge owners

The engine block was cracked at 62,355 miles (out of warranty) and had to be replaced. Upon further investigation, this is not an uncommon problem with this year/model of car.

We were in the process of taking our vehicle in to be serviced and noticed that our engine light appeared. We were informed by the (Ford) dealer that a coolant leak occurred and our engine will need to be replaced. I am concerned because we typically follow the maintenance schedule. We are also concerned because we were informed that our extended warranty expired 4,000 miles prior. We opened case #CAS-44960379-N7Q8D9 with the Ford Motor Company to see if there were any open recalls on the issue. There were none. Further research identified an existing class-action lawsuit regarding our problem. We are taking steps to see if our dealer will honor our extended warranty anyway, but there is a chance they may not and may incur thousands of dollars to replace the engine. In doing so, we have no assurance that the problem may return.

Without warning, aside from the check engine light at the time of incident, 2017 Ford Edge suffered a catastrophic engine failure due to coolant intrusion at 70,164. Vehicle was taken to Junge Automotive Group (Ford Dealer) and deamed undrivable without complete engine replacement. Junge or Ford is in possession of the engine at this time. This is a known problem by both Junge and Ford Motor Company as well as an active problem based on internet results when searched.

Coolant leaking into cylinders. Its a known problem with 2015-2018 Ford edge with the 2.0 enging turbo echboost. I have called ford dealer and they said it is on the Technical Service Bulletin but they said no recalls on this. Can you please check into this for me. I have been advised mine is in the early stages but a total engine replacement will be necessary.

After plenty of research online and seeing the tsbs from the manufacturer this is definitely a problem. This vehicle is my only form of transportation, being that it has been a problem for many customers of ford it is absurd that this has not been recalled and fixed. We don't work hard every day, spend over 25k on a car for it to have a common problem amongst many of the same vehicle and same year, that is obviously a malfunction of the manufacturer.

Took the 2017 Ford Edge for regular service, oil change, etc. Noticed the engine light on the dash panel came on. Independent Mechanic informed me that there was a leak of coolant into Cyl #3 of the engine. Recommended that we take the car to a dealership as it has only 49,689 miles on it. Vehicle is running fine at the time, no smoke or loss of coolant. Drove to the dealership the same day and they confirmed that there has been a service bulletin issued on the vehicle's engine due to coolant leaking into the cylinders, causing engine failure. Waiting for dealership to have an open service bay to use to find the exact problem.

Service order: dated 08/07/23 Engine light on and and off several times Check codes: found p301 and p316 as well as coolant intrusion in cylinder #1 lost psi of pressure on the coolant system in 10 minutes. Needs long block Conclusion by tech: needs a new engine costing over $9000. The cost for computer test $240.00 This was after spending $661.97 for a fuel vapour Sep installed. Don’t know if needed or not.

Check Engine light came on and I scheduled an appointment at an independent repair shop. Before the appointment date, the engine gave an overheat warning. The system was low on coolant (filled about 3/4 of a gallon). A day before the appointment it overheated again and this time was able to fill another 1/4 gallon. Independent repair shop diagnosed and could not find any signs of exterior coolant leaks. The car overheated due to a known engine defect which allowed the coolant to leak into the engine block. The car now needs a whole new engine. This is what the Ford Dealer gave me. So the car has a code p0302 coolant is leaking in cylinder #2 which is causing the car to run rough and overheat because of coolant loss and from what I understand can eventually cause a engine fire I’ve taken it to a shop to find this out but it hasn’t been inspected by the manufacturer police or insurance representatives the check engine light has been intermittently coming on and going back off until one day it just stayed on

In June our 2017 Ford Edge's check engine light came on. We took it to our mechanic who told us it would need a new engine block due to leaking coolant, but that they don't do that. He told us there is a TSB out and advised us to take it to the dealership. We took it to West Hills Ford in Bremerton on July 15 and they confirmed it has the known defect and that it does need a new engine due to the coolant intrusion. For reference, my car has less than 30,000 miles on it, but it is past the 5 year mark that Ford will cover. After passing 100,000 miles an engine light appeared. I took the vehicle to the Ford Dealership and was told that the cylinder was misfiling at startup. I was also told that this is a common problem the technician has been seeing with the Ford Edge around that year make/model. I was also told that a new engine would be needed at $8,000. I took my 2017 Ford Edge to the Dave Arbogast Ford when my check engine light came on. The dealership stated I need a new engine because coolant was leaking into cylinder 2 causing the misfire which led to the check engine light. After doing some research this is a well known issue with 2015-2018 Ford Edges. A service announcement was put out by Ford https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10162071-0001.pdf on their website (posted June 26, 2019) yet this was never stated to me by the Dave Arbogast Ford dealership when I bought the card in July 2020. My safety and my children's safety has been put at risk due to this issue. This causes the car to potentially overheat and not be used.
