The brake booster went out first, replaced the brake booster and master cylinder, 2 calipers, brake pads, and rotors. The next option was to replace the brake lines. The problem was not solved; the calipers still locked up.

I have a 2013 FORD Edge that the ABS module has gone out deeming the vehicle unsafe to drive. We have spoken to several FORD dealership team members and have all stated that the part should be recalled and the part is unavailable until sometime next year or later. We were told by FORD customer service, that in order to escalate the issue, then we needed to take to a dealership. We dropped the car off and never heard back from anyone and finally after many attempts to contact the dealership, I was finally able to get a team member on the line. They then tell us until we pay the diagnostic fees, they can't do anything. We were never told that from the start of the initial call and are back to square one. The car has no anti-lock brakes and is deemed unsafe to drive, please assist in...

The ABS Control Module failed in my 2013 Ford Edge. I no longer have anti-lock brakes and my wife does not feel safe driving the car. I talked to a number of different Ford Dealerships and every service technician I talked to told me they don't know how this issue is not a recall as it is happening so often that the part is back ordered by a year. I had the problem confirmed by in independent service center and was informed to bring to a Ford Dealership. The vehicle is now at a Ford Dealership awaiting diagnosis but they all said they know what the problem is and they can't get the part. There are multiple warning lamps going off when you start the vehicle. ABS warning lamp, service advancetrac lights and brake warning lamps. This issue just popped up and we brought to an independent service center to...

This is on a 2013 Ford Edge with Adaptive Cruise Control. The brakes failed and went completely to the floor, putting the driver/passengers at danger along with other vehicles in the vicinity. The ABS control module with HCU is the part that failed. Ford part # CT4Z-2C405-A. Per the dealership and per Ford, this part is now obsolete and unavailable, which means the vehicle is currently unsafe to drive and unusable. Ford does not have any plan at the moment to correct this issue.

The brake booster had a recall but it should have never just have been the booster. The brake system on this is dangerous. I had the booster replaced and the valve got stuck in the HCU and cause brakes to fail. This has been a common issue amongst people and yet this is not a recall. The dealership just quoted me $3200. That's absurd for an issue thats obviously a common huge problem for people

Soft brake pedal that goes to floor
#11705205 |
While driving the car approaching a stop the brake pedal suddenly went almost all the way to the floor. Had to press the brake multiple times to come to a complete stop. It is unsafe when traveling in traffic and unable to slow down fast enough to stop the vehicle which can cause an accident. The vehicle has not been inspected. Contacted a mechanic and described the issue and stated this sound like a master cylinder issue and it is unsafe to drive. This issue did not present warning lights or message to indicate there was anything wrong. We have read many similar complaints online. We believe Ford should fix this issue.
#11704020 |
While driving the car approaching a stop the brake pedal suddenly went almost all the way to the floor. It stayed that way for the next couple of days before going back to a fully functioning brake pedal. Months later it happened again this time without repairing itself. We took it to a local mechanic as well as the local Ford dealership twice. Their computer did not detect anything wrong and yet when the service rep tried the brakes they went clear to the floor! So we had them update the computer software in the car since we never had any warning lights about this issue. The local mechanic as well as the Ford dealership suspect it is the HCU unit within the ABS system. The problem is there are no replacement parts available to remedy the problem. We have read many similar complaints online. We believe Ford should fix...

I purchased this vehicle used in August 2025 from the estate of a friend's relative. The records show it was meticulously maintained and no recall notices have been unaddressed. The prior owner used it infrequently and it still has just under 90k miles. There were no major engine issues when my local repair shop (over 12 years and 3 vehicles) inspected all systems, and the vehicle passed for PA state inspection and emissions. However, driving more, I noticed that the brakes would intermittently become "mushy" or "hard" and overall less responsive. I needed to use a lot of force to fully stop over a longer distance. There was also a hissing noise while braking and sometimes the cabin air fan would blast on suddenly. Then, while stopped at a red light and applying the brakes, the engine shut off and check engine light came on. My mechanic detected O2 sensor...

The 2013 Ford Edge began giving trouble after sitting at an intersection or pulling out of the driveway to enter major traffic. The vehicle would hesitate to accelerate as though it is running out of gas but it isn't out of gas. When you continue pressing on the accelerator it would jerk then accelerate. We barely escaped being hit from the rear because the vehicle died while pulling out onto the feeder, whereupon I struggled to pull into a nearby gas station. The brake pedal is generally stiff but can be depressed, however, in other instances, when braking the brake pedal sometimes becomes hard to depress but becomes easier after the car is driving for a long stretch, such as the freeway. When you start the car the panel is normal but as you begin driving the Check Brake System failure light begins to appear in Red and the ABS...

Replaced Master Brake Cylinder and Brake Booster due to hard Braking. Also, ABS Control lights are illuminated. Codes show failed ABS module creating safety issue when fast breaking. Brake pushes down to the floor periodically Repair is very costly to fix.

Stiff brake and hard shift
#11679679 |
The brake pedal became stiff. The pedal would depress and eventually stop the car but then occasionally more play would be in the pedal. When the vehicle stopped the pedal would depress further and additional pressure would have to be applied to get the vehicle to stop completely. A service campaign bulletin was issued for my other vehicle ( Feb 20, 2024- Reference Number 13N02), same model, same year for a brake booster replacement, yet no service campaign was issued for this vehicle. My vehicle would not stop completely consistently without stomping on the pedal. My garage informed me to return it to Ford for warranty replacement of the brake booster, just like my other Ford Edge ( same year, same model). Brake fade was noticed in Fall of 2024 and confirmed by my garage in Feb 2025.

Brake booster went bad on the vehicle after 8 years. Brake pedal had to be pressed to the floor. The fuel line had a leak so anytime gas was put into the vehicle it would leak down the frame to the ground. Wiring for the back up camera goes in & out. I’m afraid of the brakes not working & a fire being caused by the leaking fuel or faulty electrical lines connecting the rear camera to the display.
#11671550 |
Spongy brake pedal while driving. Brake pedal travel almost to the ground when applying the brakes. Issue is cause by faulty hydraulic control unit. This problem occured while on a family trip on interstate US 95 while traveling at 70 miles per hour with my wife and children on board. The malfunction caused me to have difficulty braking and almost caused a major accident when a vehicle suddenly stopped in front of me. I was 10 hrs from home and was forced to travel back with the faulty, risky and extremely dangerous faulty brake system. The problem persists and I will be calling the Ford dealer on 7/7/2025 to have the problem fixed. There were also no warning lights to indicate a faulty hydraulic control unit that could had proven me from driving the vehicle on a 10 hr trip with my family in tow.
#11669060 |
Brakes became spongy and went to the floor. Vehicle could not stop short and was extremely dangerous to drive. Was at a high risk of slamming into the car in front of me and also could not stop before the line of a red light. Braking was delayed by more than 60%. The dealer confirmed the failure was the HCU of the ABS module. This is extremely similar to a recall on other Fords. 19S54 and 20S13
#11668107 |
Brakes were not functioning properly. Nearly got into an accident because of the increased stopping distance. I was driving on the highway pressed the brakes when a car cut in front of me. Brakes were hard to depress then pedal would go to the floor. Dealer service department indicated that there is a faulty brake booster. Found out that there was a recall / "Customer Satisfaction Program 13N02" on other 2013 Ford Edge vehicles. Called Ford Corporate and they indicated that my vehicle was not covered under this customer service program, even though it was built at the same facility during the same time that this customer service program was supposed to cover. I find it very concerning that Ford has not addressed this issue in a more widespread proactive manner. Clearly my vehicle has the same issue as others that were covered. Getting reimbursed for the cost of this...

The brake booster is failing. When you press on the brake pedal you can hear air hissing
#11664144 |
ABS hydraulic module went out Brakes go to the floor, however ford has not recall for the part even with the known issue of the part. yes- confirmed by a master tech no warning present, only the symptoms of brakes going all the way to the floor and acting like there is air in the lines
#11663657 |
Brake failure - should be a recall for my VIN under the attached program. Ford is denying and told me to reach out to NHTSA.
#11663509 |
My brakes are failing intermittently. I have been driving and pressed the brake pedal and it goes all the way to the floor but the car only gradually stops. Thankfully it has not caused an accident, yet. Once I am able to stop I pump the pedal to get things back to somewhat normal. But the pedal still feels spongy. I looked up a customer service program ford has (13N02) but my VIN isn’t under it. But my car does fit the assembly plant and dates of this known issue. I’m afraid I’m going to get in an accident over a known issue.
#11661830 |
Brakes have to be pressed almost to the floor to engage. There is a warranty extension for many 2013 Ford Edges with production dates at the same plant for brake replacement and this VIN is not included. It is a significant safety concern.
#11661329 |
I reported this issue with my breaks the other day, however I noticed today 5/15 that my breaks would not engage after going down my hill in my neighborhood, my husband was driving and said he had to push the brakes to the floor to engage and get the car to stop, he almost didn’t get the vehicle to stop. This would have caused him to roll into oncoming traffic, with 2 kids in the car this is not acceptable. I have did research and noticed recalls but my car is not included on that however, my vehicle is having the same issues. I do plan on taking it to the repair shop and having someone look at it. This vehicle is not safe to drive
#11661027 |
2013 ford edge, breaks locked up as I was approaching a downward hill. I felt the breaks tighten up and wouldn’t stop. This could have caused a significant accident if I needed to stop suddenly. There where no warning lights that came on.

2013 Ford Edge Limited Mileage approximately 69,000 Have had issues for several months (2024-2025) with an intermittent soft brake. As soon as I feel the soft or spongy brake I release & pump the brake pedal again & that seems to fix it. April 30, 2025 I stepped on the brake & did not get a good pedal. Pumped the brake again & did not get a good pedal (did this 3 times) then noticed it went real low & it felt like a sensation of maybe pedal feeling disengages or collapsing during failure. The soft brake pedal lasted for the approximately next 5 times I pumped the brake. I have found the 2013 Ford Edge has 465 NHTSA complaints for service brakes, averaging 56,907 miles, with many describing intermittent pedal issue similar to mine. No ABS or any warning lights are on. Checked for recall & don’t see one...

Probable power brake booster failure, in a panic stop attempt when another motorist ran a red light the vehicle brake pedal became very hard and did not want to stop the vehicle. Other instances include spongy and soft pedal going to the floor with very poor braking. This vehicle was included in FoMoCo Customer Satisfaction Program 13N02 but did not exhibit these symptoms until just recently. These are the exact symptoms covered by the program but time and mileage has expired for this build date even though later models are still covered.

Brake booster needs to be replaced because it has failed, making the car unable to stop. This has caused the car to shut off if the brake pedal is pressed to long, like stopping at a stop light. The vehicle is in a Ford authorized service shop and has been confirmed as brake booster failure. The issue started with stalling, car throwing codes such as no oil, hissing in the brake lines, spongy brake pedal, leading to zero ability to stop. Issues started slowly around October and by January, the car is completely unable to stop.

Hi my name is [XXX] and we own a 2013 Ford Edge. VIN # [XXX]. We loved driving it until it broke down on a trip to New Mexico. We were driving along and all the brakes locked up leaving us stranded on the side of the road for 5 hours. We eventually had it towed to our destination, Gallup New Mexico and had it examined by a local mechanic. He thought it was hydraulics and replaced the master cylinder and all the brakes and rotors along with the ABS hydraulic unit. It appeared to take care of the problem but while test driving it was still happening, it wasn’t the brakes it was the anti-lock braking system module (ABS). He tried to order the ABS module but was told that Ford does not make that part anymore and had to try an aftermarket one. Those did not work. I...

Brake Boost issue with my 2013 Ford Edge Sport. When attempting to brake, there is very little stopping resistance. Even at slow speeds, it takes a dangerous amount of time and distance to bring the vehicle to a stop. While braking, a hissing noise can be heard from the brake pedal area, and the brake pedal presses easily to the floor with minimal resistance. Upon researching the issue, I discovered that this is a very common problem with this vehicle. A certified mechanic diagnosed the issue and stated that this is a known problem and may be covered under Ford's Customer Satisfaction Program 13N02. While this is a known and common issue that is covered under warranty when the vehicle is under 10 years from warranty purchase date or under 150,000 miles, the Ford Dealership is fighting me on this and is refusing to assist in correcting this safety issue....

My brake pedal was not functioning correct. It was at times very soft, hitting the floor, and at other times difficult to push. A local shop replaced booster and master cylinder in an attempt to fix. Now brakes are locking up at random. Happened while going 70 mph with family in car and wheel was shaking and very unsafe. My year model (2013) is not included in the extended warranty for the brake booster (13N02) anymore since it was made in March of 2013. Any edges made in April of 2013, just one month later, are covered until 2025 by the customer satisfaction program extended warranty.

Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The vehicle is hard to brake and travels a further distance before stopping, the brake is hard to press and stop the vehicle. This has been confirmed by my private mechanic No, it has not been inspected by the manufacturer I heard a hissing noise and the car stalled out at a complete stop when the brakes were pressed down Reached out to Ford and they said there is no recall for my vehicle but I have information from when I had my emission done provided by NHTSA of a recall MRF#13N02. Which I've provided a copy of down below.
#11649622 |
The brake booster on my 2013 Ford Edge Sport has failed, leading to significantly reduced braking performance. This creates a dangerous condition requiring excessive force to stop the vehicle. Over the past few months, I have narrowly avoided multiple accidents due to the inability to stop safely at stoplights. On several occasions, I was forced to swerve off the road to avoid collisions. This issue was diagnosed by a certified mechanic, who informed me that brake booster failures are a known problem in this vehicle model. Although I was made aware of Ford's Customer Satisfaction Program 13N02, Ford's customer service indicated that the warranty had expired, and the dealership refused to repair the issue at no cost. As I cannot afford the repair myself, I am forced to continue driving the vehicle in its unsafe condition, putting my safety and the safety of others at risk.
#11647600 |
1 month after replacing the break booster, the modules that control the ABS system went out. I have taken the vehicle to multiple mechanics and no one is able to get the part. They said Ford is no longer manufacturing the replacement. When I called the Ford dealership and tried to get it repaired, they said the part is on back order with no date for when it will be available. I am now forced to drive without ABS breaks and I worry about having to slam on my brakes and my car sliding out of control. I live in a very high traffic area and have to commute a lot on the interstates due to work.

Brake booster went out twice and had to be replaced both times ( Jan 2022 and Jan 2023). Now I have HCU failure and lost braking. ( Dec. 2024). I also had a drive Shaft failure for inspection ( Oct. 2024). My car has 60,000 miles on it. I contacted Ford Corporation and my Ford dealership and my Vin is not part of the recalls for any of these issues. However my model year and manufacturer location were part of a recall for all three of these systems. My car has been serviced by a Ford authorized dealer each time. My braking system continues to be unreliable and scary to drive.

If you hit a pot hole or a bump on the road the brake pedal makes a weird sound and then the brake goes all the way to the floorboard when trying to apply brakes and doesn't come to an immediate stop. The wrench light has come on or the symbol that has the car and wavy lines for traction control will turn on all of a sudden and then the car shuts off in the middle of the road while driving putting my life in danger. It also doesn't accelerate all of a sudden and loses power while driving putting my life in danger. When you put the car in park the car still jerks forward even after the car is in park and off. It also makes a clicking sound as if it goes into gear after you have turned the car off and park has been engaged....

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact noticed that the brake pedal became inoperable. The contact stated the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard with no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake boosters failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 117,000.

My brakes have become soft, and non reactive 3 times this year. Where normally you start braking and the brakes give resistance and slowly start braking as you push the pedal, now it feels like it releases and pushes to the floor before it starts breaking. I took it in twice already for repairs and last night the same thing has happened once again. The first incident happened around 7/13/24 then again 9/13/24 and now again 12/16/24. Master cylinder & booster replaced first two visits, have another visit scheduled tomorrow. I have taken it to a local place to be fixed each time, yet keeps happening.

Driving in traffic. Hissing sound from brake pedal, stiff brake pedal, delayed stopping after pushing brake pedal, I almost ran into car ahead of me, unpredictable how long it takes to stop, stalled at red light, I have to push as hard as I can to stop vehicle. Bad brake booster. I can barely drive this. It’s not safe.

Brake going to floor without resistance causing a longer breaking distance with my [XXX] daughter. Problem was intermittent initially, but I was able to confirm. Took to the local dealership that could not reproduce the problem, even though similar models had brake booster recalls referring to the same issues. Problem began to get worse until the car became unusable safely. Local dealership replaced brake booster at the cost of 1200 dollars. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I’ll cut right to the facts. Last weekend my wife and I were driving on the highway in our 2013 Ford Edge [XXX] ed on the brake pedal as we neared our exit – WE WERE NOT SLOWING DOWN - we found ourselves with what seemed to be NO BRAKES again I repeat NO BRAKES. Immediately sheer panic hit me as I pushed the brake pedal to the floor and held it there. Luckily we were FINALLY able to stop without creating an accident. I’ll fast forward to cause of the problem – A FAULTY BRAKE BOOSTER – Which was identified by Ford in their Customer Satisfaction Program13N02 – issued November 27,2013. Our vehicle was not was not included so we were not notified of any potential issue. As a result I not only got THE SCARE OF MY LIFE (and that’s an understatement) BUT on top of that a...

My 2013 Ford Edge Limited is experiencing the failed brake power booster symptoms. Hard to push pedal and sinking. VIN is not linked to 13N02 per Ford support. However the model year is within the range of years, build at the Oakville plant, has the issue, but not covered.

I currently have an few issues to report. When I press on the brakes, they make an air whistling sound and there’s nothing noticeably wrong with them. I’m also having problems with electrical on my screen and it won’t always connect with my phone and it also delays on the screen when it’s powering on or off. My tires have been leaking air since I purchased my vehicleand when I took it in, they said Ford mechanics said they sealed the valves but right when I got it back, it gave me a warning that I had low air pressure in my tires once again and my vehicle tires appeared like they were still low on air. I constantly have to fill them with air when I drive it. Every day they leak. But my biggest concern is the electrical and the brakes. I don’t know the exact date on...

Brake pedal very hard, lots of pressure to stop vehicle. Has been inspected by a certified mechanic. To be checked out by local Ford dealership Oct. 8,2024 No warning.

I constantly heara hissing sound when breaking. Sometimes my break pedal goes all the way down inorder to stop. My Abs light comes on. I have had it repaired once. Its happened again. I'm being told it's the break booster and needs repair once again. This is a severe safety issue. It's a constant issue with hydraulic or breaks, including break booster.
#11614450 |
My vehicle's brakes went completely soft, brake pedal to the floor. This is because of the "customer relationship program", aka the recall that apparently is not a recall. The issue is the "Brake Booster", where there is a small tear in the diaphragm responsible for braking. There was no warning and the problem has been reproduced multiple times according to online forums.
#11613221 |
The brake booster has failed. When I depress the brake pedal it pushes almost to the floor before any braking occurs. The car is still able to brake, but this slight delay can pose a risk to safety if the car needs to be slowed quickly. The problem occurs constantly during driving. I have brought the care to the dealership to see if it was covered under the 13N02 customer satisfaction program, but they said my VIN indicated it was not. This problem is described exactly the same in the 13N02 recall and I believe my vehicle should be covered. There have been no warning lamps or signals for this issue.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal was spongy and depressed nearer to the floorboard. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the brake booster, front brake pads, and brake master cylinder had failed and needed to be replaced. The brake booster, front brake pads, brake master cylinder, and approximately six other parts had been replaced. The brake pedal had become loose, causing the brake pedal to depress lower than before. The vehicle had been taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rear brake shoes had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had been repaired. The brake pedal had gradually become more loose almost going to the floor. The vehicle had been returned to the independent mechanic where it...
