2013 FORD EDGE Back Over Prevention Sensing System Camera Problems

Driving home, I entered my neighborhood and stopped to check my mail; i put my vehicle in park retrieved my mail and began to reverse out of the parking space, doing so the monitor screen flickered then a message came on the screen saying contact manufacturer camera unavailable. I then proceeded to put the car in drive and the message disappeared and the camera came back online. As i entered my driveway i put my car in park then reverse again and things were normal. This morning as i was backing out of my driveway the camera went black as well as no warning alarm or notification that i was approaching an individual and a few kids walking somewhat directly behind me, nearly hitting them. The last incident of the back up camera not working was this morning when i was nearly hit by oncoming traffic in the parking garage...

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while reversing, the rearview camera displayed a distorted image. The contact stated that the rearview camera had previously been replaced in 2020 under warranty. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN and referred her to the manufacturer for assistance. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The contact was advised to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V575000 (Visibility); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

The backup camera stopped working properly years ago. When in reverse, the camera is either completely a black screen or upside down. I have been quoted many times by Ford that it would be $500-1,000 for me to fix this. This is a common issue with this vehicle make/model. Many other people have notified NHTSA of this issue, as well and Ford says this is VERY common yet they take no responsibility to fix it. This creates blind spots and a safety issue while backing up.

Rear backup camera failure. Sometimes it is upside down, sometimes it is right side up and sometimes it is blank and sometimes show only black screen with verticals lines.

Backup camera started having issues (screen image upside down, screen flashing) 3 years ago. Dealer stated this is common complaint and since the car was not under warranty the estimated repair could be upwards to $2,000. I asked if the issue was common and pointed out there was a recall on new Ford cars and trucks due to backup camera issues, and why this issue shouldn't be covered as it is has the same problem that the recall on newer vehicle has? There was no response other than asking if I wanted the camera fixed, or not.

CAMERA BACKUP DOES NOT WORK, THE PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT LATCH, SO IT IS OPEN AND FLEW OPEN WHILE DRIVING.

MY REAR/BACKUP CAMERA IS INOPERATIVE AND DOESN'T ENGAGE PROPERLY. ALSO, MY "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" COMES ON ( AND GOES OFF) PERIODICALLY; CODE "402" APPEARS {EMISSIONS} ISSUE!??

MY BACKUP CAMERA IS IN 2013 FORD EDGE IS NOT WORKING FOR PAST 2YEARS JUST LIKE IN THE 2020 MODELS RECALL.

REAR CAMERA INTERMITTENTLY FAILS. THE CAMERA OPERATES FINE AT TIMES, BUT IN MANY CASES, AN ERROR APPEARS ON THE SCREEN INDICATING THE CAMERA IS INOPERATIVE. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE CAR , PUT IT IN PARK, THEN REVERSE TO SEE IF IT WOUKD RESET. IT DOES NIT RESET. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN THE CAMERA INITIALLY OPERATES BUT FAILS AS I BACK UP. I HAVE BEEN TO FORD DEALER AND THEY SAY THAT THE CAMERA MUST BE REPLACED. DON'T QUITE GET THAT - WHY WILL THE CAMERA WORK FINE DURING KNEE ATTEMPT TO BACKUP AND THEN FAIL DURING NEXT ATTEMPT TO BACKUP! THE PROBLEM BEGAN LAST SUMMER (SUMMER OF 2019)

MY BACK UP CAMERA SAYS "CAMERA IS UNAVAILABLE. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR DEALERSHIP." WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE. I JUST BOUGHT THE CAR TWO DAYS AGO AND IT STARTED DOING THIS, THIS MORNING.
