2013 FORD EDGE Electrical System Problems

Climate control system turns off automatically without driver input. This causes loss of heating or cooling while driving and requires repeated manual reactivation. Issue occurs randomly while driving and has happened multiple times. Restarting the vehicle does not consistently resolve the problem.

The vehicle’s touchscreen activates functions on its own without being touched (“ghost touch”). While driving, the screen intermittently selects menus, changes settings, and activates features without driver input. This causes distraction and requires the driver to look away from the road to correct unintended changes. The issue occurs unpredictably and repeatedly, while in motion and standing still, indicating a malfunction of the touchscreen or related electronic system and presents a safety concern due to driver distraction.

The driver side passenger "door ajar" sensor stays on constantly and is unsafe because we aren't sure if the door is truly open or not? We are scared to have passengers sit on that side of the vehicle for fear of the door flying open and causing injury by falling out or other injury because the sensor does not tell us accurately as to whether the door is truly closed all the way or not. It also drains the battery over time due to constantly being on. This problem has been going on for 2 years. We had it looked at by a mechanic. We were told they can replace the sensor, but it would likely go out again because this is a manufacturer defect, and a well known problem for Ford Edges as well as other Ford models, but they refuse to issue a recall. This is EXTREMELY UNSAFE....

The rearview camera does not function properly. Most of the time, it shows a blank screen or nothing at all. Sometimes it tells me to contact the dealership. Other times, it shows the camera view but upside down. It puts myself and others at risk because I can't see clearly when I am backing up. The problem is covered by a known recall. However, my vehicle is not covered by the recall.

The rear back up camera intermittantly fails on this vehicle. About 70% of the time, it displays a black screen. The screen will display "Contact Dealership." This has been occurring for approx. 1 year.

It is my rear view camera. I would put the vehicle in reverse and it will sometimes start to work and than it will shut off and a message comes across saying I need to contact dealership. It will sometimes come up and be upside down or I will put the vehicle in reverse and the back up camera just flashes while in use. I have not taken the vehicle to the shop. I have called and they said it sounds electrical. But the recall you just released on 2015 Ford edges for the back up camera is the same thing that is going on with my vehicle and I have a 2013.

Last week my back up camera said there was a system error and only works sometimes now. I almost hit somebody because it started showing it was working and then it went black and then wouldn’t work again. I also have a video where it starts to show me backing up and then cuts out to being black and seeing contact your dealership. I did contact the dealership and they said there is not a recall in regards to my car specifically.

Rear view (back up) camera works only on and off. The screen goes black and a warning to contact the dealer shows up. It is getting more and more frequent lately. I am having a very hard time in crowded parking lots. Now it has stopped completely.

Interior lights stay on much too long after turning vehicle off, even several hours. Dash and bell indicators indicates doors are open when they are not. Door locks operate open while driving.

Driving on the highway at night when suddenly the door alarm rings, dome light turned on causing driver to lose focus/control. Was driving at 60mph when the sensor faulted. The alarm/notification turns on at random times causing the vehicle to have the light stay on and drain battery. This is causing the driver unsure if the door is properly closed and risking the door opening in case of an accident. Problem has persisted.

If you hit a pot hole or a bump on the road the brake pedal makes a weird sound and then the brake goes all the way to the floorboard when trying to apply brakes and doesn't come to an immediate stop. The wrench light has come on or the symbol that has the car and wavy lines for traction control will turn on all of a sudden and then the car shuts off in the middle of the road while driving putting my life in danger. It also doesn't accelerate all of a sudden and loses power while driving putting my life in danger. When you put the car in park the car still jerks forward even after the car is in park and off. It also makes a clicking sound as if it goes into gear after you have turned the car off and park has been engaged....

The screen just completely goes white off and on no matter when you’re driving. I turned the car off and on, and it still would do it.. I don’t know why it happens. Sometimes it also won’t even connect to Bluetooth.. I can turn my phone off and on, and it still won’t connect to it.. something is definitely wrong with it.

My warning sign on the screen always says door ajar, when it is shut, causing me to have to drive with inside lights on, and the bell ringing every so often reminding me, my door is a jar, for the intire trip

I currently have an few issues to report. When I press on the brakes, they make an air whistling sound and there’s nothing noticeably wrong with them. I’m also having problems with electrical on my screen and it won’t always connect with my phone and it also delays on the screen when it’s powering on or off. The contact stated that upon slamming the front driver's side door several times, the vehicle responded as needed. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular failure. No warning lights were illuminated. The backup camera works when it feels like it and the monitor glitches when it is working as well as things appear upside down and blurred when in reverse. The camera stays on for a minute after gear is placed in drive. The radio goes in and out. The screen freezes up after disconnecting a hands free call. The brakes feel like they’re locking up when pressed and makes a clunking sound.

Doors are registered as open but are closed.

The first issue I am having is that the vehicle is telling me to put my car in park when it’s already in park. This has been going on for many months now. My second issue is when I fill my tank to full and try to start it, it has a hard time turning over. This has been going on for many months now. The fourth issue I have is that two of my tires keep leaking air since I have purchased a vehicle from the dealership and I have had it in and they claim they sealed it but they are still leaking. So I constantly have to fill them up with air. This has been going on since I bought it from the dealership.

Vehicle will not idle at the correct rpms. Replaced battery and alternator had everything checks by a certified mechanic. The battery light will come on while driving and the car will begin to stall out while driving. Cannot run ac or any electric component in the car. Window switch on driver’s door quit working. Switch for rear passenger windows also not working. Front passenger window switch works. Possible cause is faulty wiring harness in the door (only one blue wire comes loose from the plug, causing the driver’s window switch to go dead.)

My daughter was driving the car and the vehicle stalled out. A warning light for low oil pressure came on however the oil was change 1 week ago. This is very dangerous because she was on a very busy highway. Also when putting gas in the car it sometimes will not start.

I have a 2013 ford edge and I was driving at 40=45 mph and when I came up to a light the brake peddle went to the floor and was very hard to stop. The result was me having to leave the road to the right to avoid a collision. I took it to ford who stated it needed a brake booster and said my vehicle doesn't qualify for an extended warranty on the booster. i have ran my VIN on multiple site and the dealership said the did their inspection on the vehicle. The VIN is showing that there is no recalls on this car. However we noticed things going wrong with the Edge. Even though we bought the car as is, this shouldn't be happening if they did things right. My driver door ajar light comes on and stays on if you start the Ford Edge before shutting the door. If you turn off the car then shut the driver door wait a min then start the Edge then the door ajar light does not come on. And sometimes it doesn't matter the door ajar light comes on anyway. All 4 door ajar sensor are not showing that the doors are close which does not allow you to lock ,which also cause the battery to be drained due to the interior lights remaining powerd as if the doors are open !!!!! This is a personal saftey issue for children and adults ,and a theft issue due to locks not locking !!!!!!!!!!! 500.00 dollars a door is insane for a stupid design !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Car started shaking when I started to slow down at a red light and then loss power in the road. This continued to happen. Finally engine light came on I took it to get scanned came back 02 sensor. I will take it back to the dealer on Tuesday. My car just shutting off with two kids in the backseat going down the road is not okay and a huge safety issue.

ON 9-28-2022 I was driving about 45 mph when suddenly my car lost power. The wrench symbol appeared on the dash. I floored the gas pedal, pressed it completely to the floor, and the car sputtered off the road and out of traffic. It was terrifying.

I have been having issues with the backup camera on this model. I replaced the camera and still having issues. A warning message is displayed and says contact dealer. I've recently noticed a recall on newer model fords and wonder why there wasn't a recall on the later models since there is the same issue with the newer models.

Traction control. Stabiltrak, and ABS system all randomly failed at 69,000 miles. They were intermittently going in and out for two days now come on every time. The car does not even have 100,000 miles. I have replaced the transmission and have countless electrical issues. The blend door actuators are all faulty. Known common issue that will cost a thousand to fix. Master brake cylinder has been replaced and still having faulty petal issues that is no longer covered. The panoramic roof does not work and it is a known issue almost every edge has. And now sever safety issues with the ABS system and traction control. I was told once that body control module wàs bad then I call to get it replaced and they said it wasn't bad. Windshield wipers go when they want then sometimes they won't work at all. Windows will roll down when rolling up or roll up when rolling down. Radio has been delayed. Sometimes definitely not eco boost. Pushes slower than my grandma's 1999 Buick. Brake boost was replaced in July ànd now again I have no breaks whatsoever I have to drive with the emergency brake

This is a known issue for the Ford Edge. The Voltage Regulator on the Alternator goes out prematurely. The SYNC system will shut down while driving and also disable many features of the vehicle. Such as the radio turning off, doors not unlocking, shifting disabled, headlights turn on dimly, etc. The battery tests normal and so does the alternator, however the regulator within the alternator will not pass through enough charge to the battery to stay charged. Hence, why most people will change the battery and still have the problem later. I understand as parts age they do fail, however this has been a known issue since early versions of the car and it has yet to be corrected. Left rear door ajar light remains on even when door is fully closed. Interior lights remain on while driving. Vehicle is garaged when not in use.

Entire panel system shuts down when driving at various times. Non-functioning lights, speedometer, and warning systems. Entire panel across Ford Edge goes black. Driving at night and the entire cabin and headlamps shut off immediately. No hazard lights. Ford stated my vehicle is not recalled due to being manufactured at another plant from other recalls of the same year, model and make. Vehicle has less than 28,000 as of this date.
