2014 RAM 1500 Steering Problems

Our power steering comes and goes without warning. We did have zubek Tawas motors look at it , they say need to replace the steering assembly cost $2500, as the power steering pump is intragateed and not a solo unit, we researched and saw that we are not the only one having this problem

Steering intermittently stops working, especially when navigating turns. The steering gets stuck in the turned position. Definitely very dangerous. If I hadn't slammed on the brakes, I would have been in the woods. The power steering warning light came on, but went off when vehicle was restarted. Yet the problem persists.

The vehicle power steering stopped working without warning making the vehicle very difficult to steer if at all steerable. The power steering warning light on the dash came on at the same time the issue began. This made the vehicle very dangerous to drive. Luckily I was driving on a straight and not in the middle of a curve or it would have been difficult to stay in the lane I was in. I have tried to get a service advisor at the dealership close to my home and have left messages but have not been contacted nor do they return my calls.

EPS Rack and pinion failure, While driving home my steering lost all power steering, luckily I was abilie to keep it on the road and slow down to pull off the road way if i were at highway speeds I don't believe i would have been able to keep from having an accident where i had to have it towed back to my house because it was undrivable and im glad my wife was not driving at the time because she would not have been abilie to safe it from have an accident. the truck is Available for inspection YES Mine and my Family safety was both put at risk do to almost have an accident running off the road The truck has not been inspected There where NO warning lights or other messages, the only appeared after the Near accident a small red steering wheel flash on the dash...

Loss of power steering randomly while driving and very hard to turn vehicle. Very dangerous and risks safety of myself and others because steering wheel locks up and does not want to turn while driving. I don’t feel safe driving it like this. Local shop said it is the electric power steering issue. No warning lights.

I have a intermittent loss of power steering causing the vehicle to be very difficult to turn. Doesn’t feel safe to drive the vehicle. I checked the number on powersteering gear and it doesn’t match the numbers listed on the equipment safety recall vb9 put out by fca. The symptoms are identical to the one listed in the current safety recall.

Rolled over a small pothole, my speed was 3-5 mp. I lost steering. I had a mechanic checked the system, it had a c2217 code. Which is an internal steering module

While driving the steering all of a sudden became almost impossible to turn. Upon pulling vehicle over an shutting down and restarting the truck, it was ok, but then did the same thing the next day, then an entire week there after intermittently. I have taken it locally to be looked at by the RAM dealer near me. Laurel Chrysler RAM in Johnstown Pennsylvania. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle.

My wife has been complaining that the steering gets stiff and unresponsive sometimes.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 144,000.

For the past year or so, the power steering will cut out requiring significantly increased effort. This seems to be random and comes and goes. Recently it has become more frequent including today when I was turning at an intersection, This appears to be an issue with this generation of Ram trucks so I felt I should report it.

Without warning power steering goes in and out. Sometimes it works just fine other times it has happened while driving on the highway. Sometimes will start with power steering already not working.

Was driving to gym and power steering rack that everyone else is having issues with went out while driving. I was able to muscle my truck off the highway and into the parking lot of the gym. From there it was towed to a auto repair shop and quoted almost $4,000 to fix. I was able to get the part and fix it for $2,700. The part only was $2,435. We need paid back from Mopar. This is not right so many people are having the same issue. Thank you.

Power Steering Failed all of a sudden while riding around 40mph. put myself and others in danger. Unable to turn without puttting alot of strength into it. No warning lamps or messages about power steering.

I am currently experiencing intermittent power steering failure, my 2014 Ram 1500 only has about 80k miles on the clock as I barely drive it. About 3 months ago I noticed heavy/slow steering, not totally failure, but more stiff than usual. About a month following that, I noticed intermittent steering loss, luckily I noticed the problem early and was able to respond accordingly. However, due to the steering being intermittent, it is unsafe to continue using the vehicle for the time being as there is no way to know when it will cut in and out meaning the vehicle can act unpredictably. Thankfully I have another vehicle to use, but looking at the repairs, it would probably cost me close to 2000 dollars and I would rather not pay for something that expensive unnecessarily.

While driving, the power steering stop functioning. There was no accident however, it functioning properly in traffic.

Truck with under 60k miles. Experienced intermitent to full power steering loss. Truck would get really hard to steer at all speeds, especially in banking curves. Would also oversteer while making 90° turns, like it had a sticky steering wheel - that did not want to return to position. While driving the steering completely failed and the vehicle was extremely hard to turn. I managed to slow the vehicle without incident and drove the vehicle very slowly home. I see there is an investigation into this and I'd like to add my testimony.

Driving down the the highway of Creedmoor Road in Raleigh, NC, I had a sudden loss of power steering and hit a guard rail. Luckily, the only damage was to the front bumper. Driving through Vermont from New Hampshire ,we took a winding road to get off the highway and going through a corner the trucks power steering locked up and i had to slow down and muscle it to the side of the road, scared the hell out of me. We went back to the highway, straight roads to get back home. It is at a dealer waiting for the parts, it has cost me a new battery so far, was checked the day before at Valvoline 13.5 volts. I am not liking the $ 4,000.00 + figure to fix it.

The power steering went out while I was driving on the highway At posted speed limit. I was unable to freely steer and navigating through traffic became extremely dangerous. I’ve taken it to two mechanics and they said the rack and pinion needs to be replaced due to the component being part of the steering mechanism. No warning lights came on prior to me driving. The warning light came on while I was driving as soon as the powering steering went out.

When I start the engine, the steering wheel icon comes on. It says service power steering. There's no power to turn the steering wheel. After the engine runs and I turn off the engine and start it again, the icon doesn't come on and I now have steering power. This happened 3 times. Power steering failure. Electronic power steering rack failed while driving. Caused vehicle to go off road. Was able to avoid hitting anything but was only lucky.

My truck has 87,000 miles. 1st my engine went out last month because of a known engine issue that Dodge is not owning up to on Hemi engines. 3 weeks later after replacing the engine my Power steering went out as I was driving causing it to be very hard to drive. These are both known issues with these trucks that recalls should in place for. I have spent close to $14,000 in one month fixing these issues Dodge should be paying for on a truck with only 87,000 miles.

Complete loss of steering assist (electric power steering). A large number of vehicles experienced the same issue, but the dealer advised that there was not a factory recall. There were so many failures that aftermarket rebuilds were not available, as only hard parts were replaced during rebuilding. Circuit board failures were not repairable. I paid a RAM dealer over $4200 for repairs, and had to wait 2 months for parts, because so many had previously failed. I would like to see NTSB force a recall, and I would like to recover my repair cost, as the RAM factory is clearly responsible.

Loss of powersteering assist on start up. Also loss of steering assist while driving down the road. Has even had no power assist when ambient temp under 32 F degrees out side.

While on vacation in Canada, power steering went out. It came back once for less than a mile and went out again. I was told the remanufactured parts were on back order. Once I got the truck back to Missouri I was quoted $3440 for the part. I found it online from a dealer in McKinney Texas and repaired it myself for $1878. Steering assist light on dash blinks for two to three minutes at engine start. Steering wheel locked up. After a few minutes light goes out, steering works fine. This occurs every start up since fall 2022. Larry Miller dodge Tucson confirmed.

At speeds over 65 mph the truck vibrates violently. We have had it to 3 different repairs places, new tire’s balanced, new front parts and it still vibrates.

Steering locked up and had to replace Steering Rack. Found out many models have had same issue with SAME PART. This should also have been part of any recall due to the nature and severity of this failure. Part was hard to find due to the nature of this issue and many have been replaced This issue could have caused a severe if not deadly accident if component would have failed while driving

On two occasions the power steering stopped working and I had to physically control the truck and control the direction it was headed. The first time I was headed home and had to muscle the steering to get home. The second time as I was headed up the driveway to leave to go to the doctor's office the steering got hard to move so I parked the truck and took my other vehicle. First i baught my truck new with 50 miles on it ..... in 2014 to date it has 26, 226 miles on it. Electronic steering failed. Would not engage. Would not reset. While there is a recall on certain vehicles, mine VIN show 0 recall incomplete. This is a known safety issue and I am having to pay out of pocket $4100.00

While driving, all the sudden the power steering went out and a Service Power Steering Warning Light came on. The steering became almost impossible to steer and I'm a big guy. This almost caused me to run the truck off the road but thankfully I was just making a turn after stopping at a stop sign and entering onto another street. Had there been a vehicle coming down the road, I would not have been able to avoid the collision. This was an extremely dangerous situation and thankfully I didn't have my wife and kid in the car and there wasn't any oncoming traffic. When I searched online, it appears that this is an ongoing issue and there haven't been any recalls. Something needs to be done as I feel unsafe and this is my primary driver.

"service power steering" indication on dash at cold weather startup. I have experienced this for a few years now. It seems wholly related to cold temperatures, as fault does not happen during warm weather. Truck is totally unable to be steered when in this fault condition. I was driving on a busy congested road. I was traveling 55 mph. As I was driving, a warning light came on to service the power steering (this had not happened previously and I had no warning). I realized then that my steering wheel had seized and became immobile. Using tremendous force I was able to get the truck through traffic and to the side of the road. I was unable to control the truck normally. I had to navigate across two other lanes of traffic to get the truck to a safe position.
