I recieved a notification of an engine recall for my Kia Soul. Took it to the nearest dealership an was told the issue was resolved. This was roughly March 1 2021. My check engine light appeared and was diagnosed as a catalytic converter/engine issue . Had vehicle towed to the dealership and after a week or who was told the issue was related to the recall and good to go Roughly 4-6 weeks later check engine light reappered with the same malfunction code. Vehicle has been towed to the dealer to diagnose and fix. The kia dealerships in my area are quoting serviced appointments months out, with no courtesy cars offered. Some dealerships have refused service altogether,.

Unknown Consumer stated car broke down on October 29th, car was driven less than a mile, when consumer heard a noise coming from the car. In trying to pull over, car screeched and came to a stop. There was a loud metal knocking. Consumer noticed that the sound was louder when I stepped on the accelerator or started the car. No lights illuminated on the dashboard. Consumer decided that it was not safe to drive and towed it instead. Vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis. KIA Customer Care was contacted to assist with the issue. Consumer was notified that there were 3 recalls on the car. SC-200, SC-155, and PI-2002. At that point, dealer towed consumer's car to a dealership to complete the recalls since it was believed that the car malfunction was due to one of these issues, but no diagnostics were run by the dealership to...

During the month of March 2021, I received a recall letter from Kia Motors America involving a potential engine fire. The vehicle was taken to the local Kia dealership for service. The problem was the loss of oil. The dealership replaced the pan and I incurred the cost of an oil switch replacement. The next incident, June 2021, was the replacement of catalytic converters. Following this, my check engine illuminated and the car was taken to Kia. They replaced the knock sensor (July 2021). In August 2021, another knock sensor replacement. The vehicle continues to lose power and fail to properly accelerate. October 2021, vehicle taken to dealership and I am informed of the catalytic converter requires replacement. Since they are under warranty, the vehicle was taken to the independent dealership that informed me that this situation with the catalytic converters will be ongoing because the engine is bad. The...

The engine is leaking oil and got so hot that it melted the inside of the Catalytic converter. This is a recall on 2015 Kia Soul 1.7 liter and not on my 2015 Kia Soul 2.0 liter. I had the car towed to the Kia dealership, Larry Stovesand-Carbondale IL, 5/7/21 to perform 3 recalls: PI2002B (knock sensor), SC200PS (engine inspect/bearing clearance test) and SC155B (pinion gear). The dealership service dept. told me that they had to do the knock sensor and pinion gear recall before they could do the engine inspect bearing clearance test. They kept my car for 3 months, until 8/4/21 and told me about the melted catalytic converter, but still had not performed the engine inspect. I marked the tire with a rock on top to make sure that they did the test. After a week, I went to the dealership. They told me the car passed...

The contact owns a 2015 Kia Soul. The contact stated that a month after an oil change an abnormal noise was heard coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who added oil to the engine and stated that no oil leaks were present. The failure would occur several times after oil changes. The contact stated while driving at 30 MPH the check engine warning light illuminated while the engine was misfiring. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, no diagnostic was completed due to the diagnostic fees. The dealer also informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the failure as solenoid 1 and 3 misfirings. The independent mechanic recommended an engine replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched the failure online and found NHTSA Campaign...

Driving the car up the 101 Cuesta Grade and lost acceleration. The speedometer went to zero and as the car died I pulled to the right side of the freeway / grade. Smoke started to enter my vehicle. A car stopped in front of me and one behind and the people ran from their cars to tell me to get out of my car as my front engine underneath was on fire. I got out of the car and opened the back hatch to remove my belongings as the engine burst into flames. This car has been maintained by KIA and by a personal mechanic and we were up to date on all recalls. We were NOT included in the most recent engine fire recall. The car is completely destroyed.

Catalytic converter failed and needed to be replaced.
#11435654 |
I purchased a new 2015 Kia Soul in the summer of 2015. Since then I have had to replace the engine TWICE and the catalytic converter at my expense. Now the engine has failed again! I asked the mechanic at the dealership why this keeps happening with a brand new vehicle. He shrugged his shoulders and responded that Kia had problems with that particular engine. Never in all this time did the dealership EVER mention this and now that the third engine needs to be replaced, they are refusing to cover it under the warranty or recall because it is at 152,000 miles and the warranty extension was up to 150,000 miles. Never mind that they should have replaced the first two engines because it was under the 150k... or that the third engine itself doesn't have 150k miles on it. They also never made me aware of the recall...

Bought the car from a used car dealership with just under 100k miles, were not made aware of the recall on the vehicle and within 7k miles car engine seized and was found to be 4 quarts short of oil with no leaks. No prior knocking or engine lights appeared, and car stalled on the highway. Luckily, no one was injured and all we did was lose $10K.

The contact owns a 2015 Kia Soul. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the engine started knocking and the vehicle independently shifted into limp mode. The contact also stated that the check engine and tire pressure warning lights started flashing on the instrument panel. Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic where they initially informed her that her vehicle needed an oil change; however, metal shavings were found in the oil reservoir. The contact then called the dealer where she had NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V750000 (Engine) repair performed. The service advisor linked the failure to the recall. The service manager could not help with the repair and referred her to the manufacturer. The manufacturer has notified of the failure and the contact was informed that she would receive a callback. Had the catalytic converter replaced in August 20, 2020 at Nalley Kia in Lithonia, GA. And one year later while driving on the highway about 60 mph., I heard a knocking sound coming from the engine. Then after taking it to Sons Kia in McDonough, GA and now they are telling me that I need another one, after getting it replaced one year ago.

Car had knock sensor update about 11/20…. Car started to burn oil. Did oil consumption test but cause it didn’t use more then 1quart per 1,000 miles it’s fine….. The car felt like engine was under a load. Straining rpms jumped up. No acceleration. Flashing engine light to steady on. Car started to shake and buck. Pulled over had it towed. My guess is cat got clogged cause engine burns oil and now has lead to engine failure. Failed at 93909 miles

Complete engine failure at around 97,000 miles. Car is available for inspection. While traveling 35mph, the vehicle lost power and had to be pulled to the side of the road. Check engine light came on. The car had the catalytic converter changed recently by Kia of Dayton. The car had burned oil at an alarming rate. The car, after pulling to the side of the road, was then driven a couple miles back to my home at around 15mph as that's all it would go. Manufacturer, police, and insurance has not inspected. The problem has not been inspected by dealer or independent service center. The car had no check engine lights previously.

Unknown. Catalytic converter code with check engine light.

A recall was done for the Catalytic converter recall work did not fix the problem the converter was replaced and 1 1/2 years later the converter melted and broke off inside which caused damage when it clogged the flow of air when I went to enter the freeway I lost all acceleration and had to be towed it took out the muffler the converter was replaced again and the muffler but the check engine light came on again after less than right hours from leaving Kia when I returned it back to Kia to have the check light read it was the timing chain intake outtake system which was most likely caused from the Catalytic converter melting and breaking apart sending the sut in places that it shouldn't be in the engine

My engine oil is running completely out (has happened a few times now) long before it is due for another oil change. Several times I have taken it in to a mechanic, and was told that my car is just burning up the oil very quickly; no leaks have been detected, and I have been told I need to notify the manufacturer. I first noticed the issue when braking, and my oil light would flicker on and off. I originally thought it was some electrical issue, but it turns out my oil was just completely empty. Pretty dangerous, considering it can excessively heat up the engine and eventually lead to a fire (which I have read about happening on numerous occasions with other Kia Souls).

I purchased my car in March of 2020. A month after I had my car the brake pads wore out with NO indication and the calipers broke. I called Kia and explained what the issue was. They tried to blame my mechanic. I told them that their technicians had to have known the brake pads were low if they did a thorough inspection. I was laughed at. I told the man that I was going to report them to the Better Business Bureau. He then told me to bring it to Kia. I told him it was at my mechanics and I no longer trusted their technicians to do the work on my car. Had my breaks failed I could've had a very serious accident. June 24, 2021. I had my intake gasket repaired by my mechanic. My car drove fine until I was exiting the highway. It started to...

The contact owns a 2015 KIA Soul. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming a quart of engine oil for every 1,000 miles, without warning. The contact also stated that the coolant would evaporate without warning soon after refilling the coolant reservoir. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who confirmed the oil consumption issue. The mechanic referred her to a dealer. The contact took the vehicle to an unknown dealer where an oil change was performed, and she was instructed to return every 1,000 miles to check the oil level. Upon checking the oil level after 1,000 miles, the contact became aware that the oil level had not changed. The contact was concerned that the dealer had overfilled the engine oil. After another 1,000 miles, she noticed that the vehicle had consumed another quart of oil. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was...

The connecting rod bearing failed resulting in the engine failing. The engine is still in the car at the dealership awaiting approval from KIA to replace it (they are currently refusing). The engine failing while the vehicle was being operated placed me and other motorist in danger had I not been able to get it off the road immediately. The connecting rod bearing failure was confirmed by the dealership. No, the vehicle has not been inspected by anyone else besides the service techs at the dealership. It is unknown if any warning lamps or messages appeared before the failure.

My car started making a loud noise and the car would not accelerate as I was returning home on the highway. I was driving home on I-75 South when my car started to slow down and it was very hard to accelerate and was making a loud noise. I made it to the next exit off Sharonville Rd and made it into a gas station. I opened the hood to check the oil and it was extremely hot and smoking. I had to wait until it cooled off and put in some oil to try to make it on home. The check oil light was not lit which didn't even provide any indication that my car was out of oil during the 1/2 hour drive. I do not feel safe to drive this car, since this incident. I took it for auto repair immediately the next day. Please help with...

I was driving and check engine light went on , drove to Pride Kia where this car was purchased. Before check engine light went on car started to decrease in acceleration. And some smoke could be seen once or twice upon acceleration. Car has been at Pride Kia for 15 days and have not been told what the problem is. This 2015 Kia Soul was was taken in at Pride Kia for a product improvement on December 2020. And on February 2021, there was a recall SC200, to check engine. Currently there are two recalls for a 2015 Kia Soul. One is for a catalytic converter 19V120000. The problems described in this recall are very similar to the problems of the Kia Soul I drive. Also, recall 20V750000, is similar to the engine problems of my Kia Soul. Upon inquiring about the Kia Soul engine problems, I was informed that...

I received a recall notice from Kia. The notice said the engine may catch fire because of oil leaks and a Kia dealer would inspect the engine. The Kia dealer mechanic said there was no oil leak, though he noted oil on the valve cover (3-31-21). He also said one ignition coil spring was damaged. When I took the car to my mechanic, he said all the coil springs were soaked with oil due to a defective valve cover gasket. He replaced the gasket and the coils. I submitted documentation for all the claims in this note to the Kia Consumer Assistance department. They said I would have to wait 2 months for a response. I waited 2 months and have received no response. Sincerely, Joe Saccaro. What component malfunctioned? Valve cover gasket. Available for inspection upon request? Yes, I have all the parts. 2015 Kia Soul engine failure with approximately 71k miles, Jan 1029. This particular VIN was not part of a prior recall. A recall was issued after this date to request owners of these particular vehicles to bring their cars in to the dealership to have them checked and a possible software update to prevent engine failures. What recourse do I have as there is not a recall for my particular VIN to replace a failed engine and since the engine has already failed and modifications to software abviously is not a solution at this point? How does a consumer get protection from a clearly known failure mode for these particular engines? Please Help!!!

approximately 9 months ago (approximately 65,000 miles) the vehicle was operating oddly and there was a low level noise. Took it to a repair shop and they told me there was no oil showing on the dip stick. The references a NHTSA warning for this vehicle/engine that after 60K miles it begins to rapidly consume oil, something having to do with leaking valves and he oil burning up faster. The obvious problem is that the engine could seize up if this got worse. From that point forward I was putting in about a quart of oil every 2 weeks (500 miles or so). Made repeated calls to KIA and filed a report. They promised to look into it and have a decision at a regional level to repair. No response ever received. I took the vehicle to the local dealer about 2 months ago. They had nothing to report regarding...

2015 Kia Soul's oil has been changed every 3K miles and has been well maintained. Check engine light came on on 4/7/21, and burning smell and vehicle was taken to service. Code showed Catalytic Converter but no open recalls for anything else. Service did not show that a Product Improvement Notice was open nor was my daughter notified in writing of that open Notice. Last night the vehicle lost all oil, threw a rod and the engine blew up with no explosion, fortunately. Kia says that will not cover the engine replacement yet it appears that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicated that there is a recall for this issue with a number of vehicles actually catching fire. The vehicle is now at a dealership in Nashville, TN but they say the replacement is not covered. Request NHTSA involvement in helping resolve this with Kia. Please contact me [XXX]...
