AS I WAS GOING VERY SLOWLY ON SIDE ROADS, I GOT TO A POINT WHERE THE STEERING WHEEL COULD TURN BACK AND FORTH BUT I COULD NOT CHANGE DIRECTION OF CAR. CAR WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC. TWO MECHANICS WITH 30 YEARS EXPERIENCE EACH SAID THAT THEY HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE. THEY REMOVED AND REPLACED STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY AND STEERING COLUMN. THIS WAS A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AN SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED! LUCKY FOR ME I WAS ON BACK ROADS.

PCM HAS WATER DAMAGE DUE TO PLACEMENT UNDER THE HOOD. WHEN THE HOOD IS OPENED WATER RUNS DOWN DIRECTLY ONTO THE UNIT AND INTO THE WIRING. THE REPEATED WATER EXPOSURE HAS CAUSED THE UNIT TO FAULT. THIS WATER INTRUSION CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO FAIL TO START INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN TURNING THE IGNITION, THE VEHICLE WILL FAIL TO ENGAGE THE STARTER; HOWEVER, HEADLIGHTS, RADIO ARE FUNCTIONAL. INTERMITTENTLY WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ILLUMINATE AND THE TACHOMETER AND SPEEDOMETER WILL STOP READING SPEED AND RMPS, RESETTING TO ZERO. WHEN THIS OCCURS IT NOT IMPAIR OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE. ADDITIONALLY, THE STEERING TORQUE SENSOR IS FAILING. INTERMITTENTLY, THE VEHICLE WILL DISPLAY "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE" ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. WHEN THIS OCCURS, TURNING THE CAR ON AND OFF REPEATEDLY WILL TEMPORARILY RESOLVE THE ISSUE.

NOW THE TORQUE SENSOR THAT WAS ALSO UNDER SAME RECALL IS OUT AND THEY WILL NOT FIX IT. THEY ARE TELLING ME THE RECALL WAS SATISFIED. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH AND READING OTHER STORIES ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE I FEEL THIS WAS A SCAM BY FORD TO SATISFY THE RECALL. THEY ARE PUSHING THE COST TO THE CONSUMER. THE REPROGRAM IS JUST A WARNING THAT THE STEERING IS GOING TO FAIL IT WAS NEVER ANY FIX. THE SENSOR SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED. THIS IS A SAFETY WARNING ON THEIR OWN ADMISSION WHEN YOU CALL TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE RECALL. I REALLY THINK THIS IS WRONG ON EVERY LEVEL.

WE WERE GIVEN A CASE FOR REVIEW - CAS13810835 - FROM FORD BUT WERE TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT HELP PAY FOR THE $557.49 BILL (IN ADDITION TO THE $135). WE WERE ALSO TOLD THAT THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS AND TO SAVE OUR RECEIPTS JUST IN CASE FORD EXPANDS THE RECALL.
