The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle continuously pulled to the right, requiring the driver to make constant corrections. Upon visual inspection of the vehicle, the contact observed that the front passenger's side tire was angled inward and had nearly detached from the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the front engine cradle after observing excessive corrosion. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 122,000.
Engine cradle rusted out. It was replaced and I have the old part. Problem was detected using the vehicle for a short drive at residential speed. If the part had failed on the freeway an accident may have occurred. Vehicle was left at a close by shop who confirmed part failure and warned vehicle could not be driven unless part replaced. Shop confirmed this is not uncommon. Called Ford Motor Company and was told to see my local dealer. Checked with dealer body shop. Body shop said never seen problem before. Parts confirmed common replacement part. Service would neither confirm nor deny quality of original part leading to failure. Concern is for younger drivers for whom this is a family hand me down.
The front suspension subframe k-frame crossmember has excessive errosion creating large gaps and holes in the frame, directly under the ac unit on the passenger side. The rust hole on top from the leaking fluid from the ac has continued to pool inside the cavity and caused erosion near the control arm. Unknown to me or any daily driver, this excessive rust is not prevalent anywhere else or something I was aware I needed to check. Other owners have been contacted and have experienced the same issue, some have had the part completely fail and cause accidents. The vehicle is very close to failure and I was not aware, there are no apparent side effects. I could easily cause an accident when using the vehicle. No other part of the vehicle has excessive rust so it is not a concern otherwise. The k-frame needs to be replaced and a hose...
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the sub-frame had extensive rust above the wheels. The contact was unable to pass the PA vehicle inspection. The contact called the local dealer however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 149,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. UPON ATTEMPTING TO CHANGE A BULB WITHIN THE LIFTGATE DOOR, THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO ACCESS THE LIGHT TO CHANGE THE BULB. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS NO MANUAL OPTION INTERNALLY AND NO OPTION TO USE A FOB TO OPEN THE LIFTGATE HATCH, WHICH FAILED TO OPEN AND SECURE WHEN OPENED. THE DEALER (HOLMAN FORD LINCOLN TURNERSVILLE, 3641 RT 42 SOUTH, TURNERSVILLE, NJ 08012, (888) 471-2313) WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE IF THIS WAS A DESIGN FLAW BECAUSE THEY PROVIDED NO SOLUTION TO ADDRESS THE FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER: 12-4-3 (STRUCTURE: BODY: HATCHBACK/LIFTGATE) WAS REFERENCED. THE VIN WAS ALSO INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V777000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000. AFTER LOADING THE VEHICLE, I SHUT THE REAR GATE. THE REAR WINDOW EXPLODED UPON IMPACT AND SHARDS OF GLASS FLEW ALL OVER THE STREET AND THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE SCARING THE KIDS. *TR
THE REAR WINDOW HAS TWO CLAMPS THAT ATTACH TO THE VEHICLE. THE CLAMPS ARE DETERIORATING AND CRUMBLING TO PIECES. I HAVE ALSO SEEN THIS ON OTHER FORD ESCAPES. WITH THE CLAMPS FALLING APART IT WILL ONLY BE A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL THE REAR WINDOW WILL SHIFT OR FALL OFF. THIS SAME VEHICLE IS RUSTING ALSO. THE REAR HATCHBACK IS RUSTING OUT AND OTHER COMPONENTS. FORD MOTOR COMPANY REFUSES TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. *TR
RIGHT AFTER THE WARRANTY WENT OUT THE VEHICLE STARTING SLAMMING FROM 1ST INTO 2ND UPON ACCELERATION. THE IDLE IS VERY ROUGH AND QUITE LOUD, THE ENGINE MAKES A FUNNY NOISE AND I TAKE EXTREMELY GOOD CARE OF MY VEHICLE, GETTING ALL OF THE SCHEDULED OIL CHANGES ON TIME, REPLACING THE AIR FILTER, ETC. I ALSO EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT THE VEHICLE WASN'T IDLING PROPERLY AND THAT THE ENGINE USED TO BE QUIET. THE WINDSHIELD IS EXTREMELY THIN AS WELL, A SMALL PEBBLE HIT MY WINDSHIELD CAUSING A 8 INCH CRACK IN A MATTER OF MINUTES TO WHERE IT WAS BEYOND GETTING IT FIXED. THEN LIFTGATE STARTED GIVING ME PROBLEMS. WHEN YOU PRESS THE BUTTON, IT WOULD MAKE THE SOUND, BUT SOMETIMES OPEN, THEN ON MAY 17, 2013 IT JUST QUIT WORKING ALL TOGETHER. ON MAY 18, 2013, I TOOK IT TO REYNOLDS FORD FOR A SCHEDULED OIL CHANGE RIGHT BEFORE...
I SHUT MY TAILGATE AND THE REAR WINDOW SHATTERED ON MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE. NO ONE WAS INJURED, BUT IT DEFINITELY MADE A HUGE MESS AND IT WAS A SHOCK TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN. THIS IS THE SECOND ISSUE MY VEHICLE HAS HAD THIS YEAR. A FEW MONTHS AGO THE THROTTLE CONTROL WENT ON THE VEHICLE. BOTH NOT COVERED BY FORD, DUE TO THE WARRANTY OVER. I HAVE MANY CONCERNS THAT A TWO YEAR OLD VEHICLE COULD HAVE THESE TYPE OF THINGS GOING WRONG WITH IT. MY OTHER CONCERN IS FORD WON'T ACKNOWLEDGE THESE ISSUES WITH RECALLS AND MANY OF MY FELLOW FORD OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. PLEASE CHECK INTO THIS FOR US. CAN SAY I DEFINITELY WON'T BE BUYING FORD AGAIN AFTER THIS. *TR
PURCHASED A 2010 FORD ESCAPE NEW, 4 MONTHS AFTER THE AIR CONDITIONING STOPPED WORKING. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT FIXED AND THEY CLAIMED IT COULD NOT BE FIXED BECAUSE IT WAS DAMAGED BY AN OBJECT MOST LIKELY FROM THE ROAD. DAMAGES ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE SERVICE TECH WENT ON TO SAY THAT THE GRILL DOES NOT PROVIDE ADEQUATE PROTECTION FOR THE AC CONDENSER THEREFORE EVEN IF I PAID TO HAVE IT FIXED AND DIDN'T REPLACE THE GRILL, IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN. IT HAS BEEN OVER 3 MONTHS AND FORD STILL REFUSES TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. IT IS NOW ON AVERAGE 102 DEGREES OUTSIDE AND I CANNOT DRIVE MY VEHICLE DUE TO THE HEAT AND INABILITY TO USE THE AC. *TR
2010 FORD ESCAPE XLT AWD, 752.2 KM, 4 REAR SUBFRAME BOLTS DEFECTIVE. 2 FRONT SUBFRAME BOLTS MISSING, 2 REAR SUBFRAME BOLTS LOOSE, RESULT REAR WHEELS AND AXLE WERE ABOUT TO COME OFF THE VEHICLE WITH MY FAMILY IN IT. THE REAR SUBFRAME ATTACHES TO THE MAIN FRAME OF THE VEHICLE TO KEEP THE REAR WHEELS ON THE CAR. *TR
