When making right and left turns at slow speeds, I hear a buzzing noise and vibration in the steering wheel. I also feel a slight clunk when shifting between 2nd and 3rd gear. I'm afraid if I keep driving with this issue, this may cause a possible lost of steering/control.
I WAS PULLING OUT OF THE PARKING LOT AT WORK AND THE STEERING LOCKED UP, LUCKILY I WAS GOING SLOW AND WAS ABLE TO STOP
When turning left at speeds over 40 mph the steering sticks or loses power assist when coming out of the turn. Turning to the right is unaffected and works normally. Been to the dealer with this complaint twice, each time they said there was no fault code and they could not find a problem. Driving at highway speeds in traffic can be very scary, anyone that drives this truck and is not aware of this steering issue could result in a wreck.
This truck makes a grinding or rubbing sensation when turning and when turning and breaking. The sensation comes from the steering column and vibrates through the steering wheel. It is audible as well. Obviously, this is a concern not only for me any my occupants, but for others on the road way as well as I do not know what is causing this rubbing or grinding. This vehicle has been checked out by my dealer and they do not know what is wrong with it, although they were able to experience the problem for themselves. They also informed me that this is a known issue and that Chrysler is aware of the problem as there are many other trucks like mine with this defect. This issue started very sporadically and has continually gotten worse.
Steering rack fails. The part has been redesigned 12 times to my knowledge with no known fix. Parts to repair vehicles are currently not available.
power steering stopped working while driving it. I was going straight on a bridge at the time so I was in no danger, Then it started working after about a half mile. No problem the rest of the day but then each day it did it more and more to the point that it has no power steering now. Called the dealer and I'm taking it in on 7/26/21. The warranty is out by 6000 miles
When turning the steering wheel right I felt a resistance and a grinding/rubbing in the steering system. This has happened several times to both me and my spouse. We have taken it to the dealer, and were told it could not be duplicated. The issue first happened when the truck was less than 6 months old, and just happened again today for maybe the 10th time at just over 2 years and 35,000 miles.
While slowing down from 45mph on a flat level road (over a bridge) prior to making a turn the outer passenger tie rod end completely decoupled from the hub's backing plate. I almost completely lost steering. Had another vehicle been in the area, or had the incident happened a second or two earlier there could have been a crash or even a fatality. I was able to torque steer the vehicle around the turn and bring it to a stop on the adjacent street. I couldn't locate the tie rod nut - so I don't know where it came off. The vehicle was flat bedded to the dealer last night. There were not any warning signs that this part was about to fail before it did. The dealer claims that it only needs an outer tie rod and an alignment.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO A TELEPHONE POLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO SOUTHWEST CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM LOCATED AT 2235 N MAIN ST, CLEBURNE, TX 76033 WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RACKET STEERING PINION WAS LOCK AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE REVERSING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT, THE VEHICLE LOSS POWER STEERING ASSIST AND WAS DIFFICULT TO TURN. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO HIS RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER NOR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED AN UNKNOWN RECALL AS A POSSIBLE CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 37,890.
DRIVING AT 35MPH THE FIRST TIME WHEN THE POWER STEERING COMPLETELY TURNED OFF. NOW HAPPENS WHEN TURNING THE TRUCK ON, THEN POWER STEERING TURNS BACK ON AFTER A FEW MINUTES. THERE ARE OTHER RECALLS FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM ON OTHER VIN NUMBERS.
PASSENGER SIDE TIE ROD INNER END OUTER SEPARATED AND UPON INSPECTION THREADS HAD RUSTED AND THEY PULLED APART IN A SIMPLE LEFT TURN. LUCKILY IT AS AT LOW SPEED, BUT HAD JUST GOTTEN OFF THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT HAD IT HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE. DEALERSHIP AND TOW TRUCK DRIVER SAID THEY HAD NEVER SEEN THIS ON A 2019 VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 100,000 MILES.
I WAS DRIVING AND MY POWER STEERING FAILED WITHOUT WARNING CAUSING ME TO NEARLY CRASH ON THE THRONGS NECK BRIDGE MOVING AT 55 MPH . THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT TOW MY TRUCK BECAUSE I AM IN NEW JERSEY. SO THEY RATHER ME GET HURT OR DIE RATHER THAN SPEND A FEW DOLLARS TO HAVE ME TOWED
DRIVING AT 35MPH THE FIRST TIME WHEN THE POWER STEERING COMPLETELY TURNED OFF. NOW HAPPENS WHEN TURNING THE TRUCK ON, THEN POWER STEERING TURNS BACK ON AFTER A FEW MINUTES. THERE ARE OTHER RECALLS FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM ON OTHER VIN NUMBERS.
JUST OVER 23,600MI OF GENERALLY ON-ROAD USE, THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING (EPS) FAILED ON A TRAIL IN THE SNOW, NEARLY SENDING THE TRUCK TRUCK UNCONTROLLED INTO AN EMBANKMENT. THE EPS HAD FIRST LOCKED UP DURING A 3-POINT TURN - THE STEERING FEEL WAS AS IF THE STEERING LOCK SNAPPED 'ON', NOT ALLOWING THE WHEEL TO RETURN TO CENTER AFTER BEING TURNED (TO THE RIGHT). NO ERROR LIGHTS WERE SEEN, SO I CHALKED IT UP TO A FLUKE. THIS THEN HAPPENED A FEW MORE TIMES ON THE SAME DAY, AT UNEVEN INTERVALS UNTIL THE EPS FAILURE WITHOUT NOTICE. WHEN THE EPS FAILED, A LOUD WHINING / GRINDING SOUND WAS EMITTED FROM THE STEERING AREA AT THE SLIGHTEST ROTATION OF THE STEERING WHEEL. WITH THE TRUCK OFF, THE STEERING RACK MADE A DEEPER 'THUNK WHEN THE WHEEL WAS ROTATED MANUALLY AND AT THAT POINT, THE EPS STAYED OFF, ALLOWING NON-EPS STEERING TO...
ALIGNMENT IS OFF AND I ONLY HAVE 22,000 MILES ON VEHICLE AND IT'S WORN ONLY THE OUTSIDE EDGE OF TIRES ALIGNMENT IS OFF NEARLY 1.5-2 INCHES
POWER STEERING FAILURE AT 17000 MILES WHILE STATIONARY. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY COULD ONLY RECREATE IT ONCE AND WERE UNABLE TO FIX IT. AFTER 2 WEEKS, THEY HAD ME PICK IT UP. 3 DAYS LATER, IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE I WAS BACKING OUT OF THE GAS STATION.
POWER STEERING STARTS AND STOPS WORKING INTERMITTENTLY AND AT RANDOM. SOMETIMES IT WON'T WORK FOR MINUTES/HOURS AT A TIME. OTHER TIMES IT CUTS OUT AND THEN COMES RIGHT BACK ON REPEATEDLY. VEHICLE IS VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL WHEN THIS HAPPENS, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT CUTS IN AND OUT DURING A TURNING MANEUVER. EACH INSTANCE IS ACCOMPANIED BY A MESSAGE ON THE DASH SCREEN ADVISING TO SERVICE POWER STEERING. REMOVING, CLEANING, AND RETIGHTENING THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE FIXED THE PROBLEM TEMPORARILY. NO MAINTENANCE OR ALTERATIONS WERE PERFORMED TO THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE/CONTACT BEFORE THE PROBLEM STARTED.
I WAS STOPPED AT A RIGHT LIGHT, MADE A RIGHT TURN AND IMMEDAILTY LOST ALL STEERING IT WAS LOCKED IN A RIGHT TURN HAD TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES AFTER THE TRUCK RAN UP OVER THE CURB ONTO THE SIDEWALK INCHES FROM DRIVING THROUGH A BRICK WALL. I SHUT THE TRUCK OFF STARTED IT AGAIN AND EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE. I WAS 3 HOURS FROM HOME SINCE EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE AFTER DRIVING ANOTHER 30 MILES OR SO I HEADED DOWN THE MOUNTIN TO GO HOME. HEADING DOWN HILL ON A VERY CURVY ROAD I LOST ALL POWER STEERING ON A CORNER AND IT TOOK EVERYTHING I HAD TO KEEP IT ON THE ROAD AND AVOID DRIVING OFF THE SIDE OF A MOUNTAIN. EXXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND SCARY. I WAS ABLE TO LIMP THE TRUCK HOME FROM THERE DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS TO BE ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL. I AM DRIVING A 2019...
COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST WHILE DRIVING ON LOCAL STREET / IN LIGHT TRAFFIC. POWER STEERING UNAVAILABLE / SERVICE REQUIRED WARNING APPEARED ON DASH. WAS ABLE TO CONTROL TRUCK AND GET TO NEAREST DEALERSHIP.
THE TRUCK HAS BEEN INTERMITTENTLY EXPERIENCING LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THIS SITUATION HAS BEEN HAPPENING AFTER I STOP THE TRUCK. HAS HAPPENED 2 TIMES NOW. MAKES IT EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AND OR MANEUVER TO GET TO A SAFETY SPOT. ALSO WHEN THIS HAPPENS, IT LOSES LANE, DEPARTURE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, ASSISTED BRAKING & MOST ELECTRONIC SAFETY FEATURES.
WHEN TURNING TO THE RIGHT THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL MAKES A GRINDING NOISE SIMILAR TO ABS ACTIVATION CAUSING TURN RESISTANCE AND "UNDERSTEER" NEARLY RESULTING IN SEVERAL COLLISIONS. WHEN REPAIR WAS ATTEMPTED RAM REPORTED THEY WERE AWARE OF THE ISSUE, BUT HAVE NO REPAIR. THIS RESULTS IN AN UNSAFE VEHICLE TO DRIVE AS THE UNDERSTEER COULD READILY RESULT IN A COLLISION.
WHEN TURNING TO THE RIGHT AT LOW SPEEDS (< 45MPH) THE VEHICLE'S LEFT FRONT WHEEL MAKES A GRINDING NOISE SIMILAR TO WHEN ABS KICKS IN. THE VEHICLE RESISTS THE TURN AND HAS RESULTED IN NEAR LOSS OF CONTROL MULTIPLE TIMES. DEALER CANNOT FIX THE ISSUE AND HAS BEEN INFORMED BY RAM THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH NO FIX. THIS ISSUE STARTED SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE AND HAS CONTINUED TO WORSEN OVER TIME. FROM RESEARCH PERFORMED IT IS CLEAR THAT THIS IS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE WITH NO RESOLUTION AVAILABLE AND NO ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN BY THE MANUFACTURER RESULTING IN A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE FOR THOSE OWNING THIS VEHICLE.
WHILE DRIVING MY STEERING LOCKED UP AND I HAD A NOTIFICATION ON MY DASH CLUSTER THAT SAID POWER STEERING WAS TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE AND REQUIRED SERVICE. IT TOOK ME ABOUT AN HOUR TO GET THE TRUCK TO WHERE I COULD MOVE IT. IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING FAST, THIS COULD HAVE REALLY HURT OR KILLED SOMEONE.
MY WIFE DROVE THE TRUCK HOME ON A SATURDAY WITH NO ISSUE. I WARMED THE TRUCK WITH THE REMOTE START THE FOLLOWING MONDAY AND WHEN I ENTERED AND STARTED IT TO DRIVE, WAS UNABLE TO. THE INFOTAINMENT CENTER INFORMED ME THAT THE POWER STEERING WAS INOPERABLE. SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED WITH THE SAME RESULT. 1 YEAR OLD AND 8,000 MILES AND CANNOT DRIVE IT! HAVE TO WAIT A WEEK TO GET IT IN TO LOCAL DEALER FOR A LOOK AND NOT SURE IT CAN BE DRIVEN. MAY NEED TO BE TOWED IN!. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AT THE TIME.*DT *TR
STEERING- POPPING/ GRINDING NOISE WHEN TURNING TO THE RIGHT. SLOW TURNS IN TOWN AND TURNS ON HIGHWAY RAMPS. HAVE TAKEN TRUCK TO DEALERSHIP WITH NO RESOLUTION TWICE. ELECTRICAL- BACKUP CAMERA STAYS ON AFTER PUTTING VEHICLE IN DRIVE. COMPUTER-RADIO-PHONE RESETS ITSELF EVERY COUPLE OF WEEKS SINCE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK WITH NO FIX.
CARS STEERING STICKS TO THE LEFT WHEN TURNING LEFT. ALSO, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ACTS UP AT TIMES. MIRRORS START TO TINT, HAZARDS GO ON AND CAN'T TURN OFF, HORN BEEPS RANDOMLY, AND SIDE VEHICLE ALERT COMES ON WHEN NO VEHICLE IS THERE.
THIS MORNING 10/23/20 AT 0530 I WAS DRIVING OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY WHICH IS 128 FEET LONG. MAKING A RIGHT TURN ON TO THE STREET AND MY POWER STEERING LOCKED UP. CODE ON THE DASH SAYS "POWER STEERING SERVICE DUE SOON". I COULD NOT TURN LEFT OR RIGHT. I HAD TO MUSCLE THE STEERING AND REVERSE THE TRUCK BACK TO MY HOUSE. MY 2019 RAM HAS AROUND 14,000 MILES. I'M SURE GLAD I WAS NOT ON A SIDE STREET OR THE FREEWAY. IT COULD OF BEEN A BAD SITUATION.
WHILE DRIVING MULTIPLE DASHBOARD WARNINGS APPEARED AND THE POWER STEERING ABRUPTLY FAILED. BROUGHT INTO DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. I WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THE PROBLEMS WERE CORRECTED, THESE ISSUES WERE APPARENTLY CASED BY BAD GROUND CONNECTIONS, AS PER DEALER. FOUR DAYS LATER I AGAIN HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS.
STEERING MAKE LOUD NOISE WHEN TURNING STATIONARY AND MOVING AND VIBRATES STEERING WHEEL. I HAVE TAKEN TO DEALER 3 TIMES AND THEY CONFIRMED PROBLEM. STATED THEY ARE WAITING ON RAM TO GET FIX. 1ST PROBLEM....STEERING COLUMN RATTLES LOUDLY IN-BETWEEN 45 AND 60 MPH AND AT SPEEDS BELOW 10MPH. TRUCKS FRONT END GRINDS WHEN MAKING SLOW SPEED RIGHT HAND TURNS. ALSO TRUCK LURCHES, GRINDS AND RATTLES THE ENTIRE FRONT END SLOWING DOWN OR BACKING UP AT SLOW SPEEDS....THIS HAPPENS WHEN BRAKES ARE NOT BEING APPLIED. SOMETIMES WHEN I DRIVE THE TRUCK THE STEERING WHEEL STAYS OFF CENTER TO THE RIGHT AND PULLS VERY HARD TO THE RIGHT. CHRYSLER SAYS IT POSSIBLE THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING RACK BUT THEY DONT HAVE A FIX. GETS WORSE ALMOST EVERY DAY. 2ND PROBLEM....I HAVE NOTICED THE TRUCK HAS MARKS WHERE THE KNUCKLE AND THE LOWER CONTROL ARM ARE HITTING EACH OTHER. I UNDERSTAND THE NEED FOR STEERING STOPS BUT THESE ARE NOT STEERING STOP HITS. THESE PARTS ARE STRUCTURAL PARTS OF THE TRUCK THAT ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO HIT. BOTH SIDES ARE DOING THIS AND I DO NOT...
LOST POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING TWICE. FIRST TIME WAS 9/11/2020 DEALER SAID A TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE UPDATED. HAPPENED AGAIN JUST TODAY 9/27/2020. HAPPENED WHILE WE WERE ON THE HIGHWAY.
POWER STEERING SEEMS TO LOSE POWER CAUSING DIFFICULTY IN STEERING ESPECIALLY IN PARKING LOTS AND SLOW TURNS.
WHEN TURNING TO THE LEFT THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS LIKE THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT. WHEN MOVED BACK TO STAY ON ROAD I OVER TURN SOMETIMES COME OFF THE ROAD
TRUCK WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET AT 40MPH. APPROACHED A STOP LIGHT AND THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD STARTED GOING OFF (ALL OF THEM). THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WENT ON AND OFF BY THEMSELVES, BLINKS DIDN'T WORK, HAZARDS DIDN'T WORK, THE RPM AND MPH GAUGES KEPT GOING UP AND DOWN. THE BRAKES DIDN'T WORK SO I HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT, SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF, WAITED 5 MINUTES AND STARTED IT UP AGAIN. SAME THING HAPPENED. SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND WAITED 10 MINUTES, STARTED IT BACK UP AND THIS TIME ONLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I MADE IT HOME 2 MILES DOWN THE ROAD. THE FIRST BUSINESS DAY AVAILABLE, THE DEALER CAME AND PICKED UP THE TRUCK. IT HAS BEEN WITH THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE WEEK. THE CALLED THE OTHER DAY AND SAID SOMETHING IS WRONG, THEY...
WHILE OPERATING THE 2019 RAM 1500, THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS (DOES NOT TURN SMOOTHLY OR LOCKING WHILE IN THE TURN) WHEN YOUR TURNING IT LEFT OR RIGHT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 50-70 MPH. WHILE OPERATING THE ABOVE MENTIONED VEHICLE, DUE TO THE STEERING MALFUNCTIONING, I FEEL IT IS DEEMED UNSAFE TO OPERATE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.
I WOULD HAVE SELECTED OTHER ISSUES ABOVE BUT IT ONLY ALLOWS THREE. DRIVING WITH FAMILY ON VACATION WHEN ALL ELECTRICAL ON DASH STARTING GOING CRAZY. EVERY LIGHT ON DASH WAS FLASHING, GAUGES WERE BOUNCING ALL OVER, HAZARDS WOULDN'T TURN ON, LOSS OF POWER STEERING, LOSS OF BRAKES, WIPERS SPED UP, TRANSMISSION TRYING TO SHIFT GEARS, AIRBAG LIGHTS WERE ON, TRANSMISSION SLAMMED IN TO PARK ONCE VEHICLE WAS UNDER 5 MPH, AND SHUT ITSELF OFF. HAD TO HAVE VEHICLE TOWED TO YORK CHRYSLER IN CRAWFORDSVILLE, IN. THIS WAS ON THURSDAY JULY 30. I HAD TAKEN VEHICLE TO BOSAK MOTORS IN MERRILLVILLE, IN ON FRIDAY JULY 24 DUE TO SAME ISSUE AND WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T FIND THE ISSUE. I MANAGED TO VIDEOTAPE THE ISSUE WHILE IT WAS HAPPENING. I ALSO LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND A COUPLE VIDEOS OF OTHER RAM 1500 DOING THE SAME THING.
POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING AROUND A PARKING LOT.THE TRUCK IS EXTREMELY HARD TO STEER AROUND CORNERS. IT'S VERY DANGEROUS DRIVING THIS TRUCK WITH NO POWER STEERING.
STEERING STICKS IN THE 11 O'CLOCK POSITION IN LEFT CURVES OF 30 DEGREES AT SPEEDS OF 30 MPH OR MORE. THE FASTER THE SPEED THE MORE PRONOUNCED THE STICK. THIS IS THE STICKING PROBLEM REPORTED BY MANY IN THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING, NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE GROUND ISSUE TOTAL POWER LOSS. THE PROBLEM WAS ORIGINALLY CORRECTED AT 1879 MILES BY THE DEALER REPLACING THE RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY. PROBLEM REAPPEARED OVER THE WEEKEND 7/24/2019 AT 35,200 MILES. I'LL BE TAKING IT TO THE DEALER THIS WEEK. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THERE IS SOMETHING AMISS IN RAM'S RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLIES. THIS PROBLEM COULD DEFINITELY RESULT IN THE DEATH OR INJURY OF THE OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLE OR THE OCCUPANT'S OF OTHER VEHICLES. I FIND REFERENCES ON RAM FORUMS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AS FAR BACK AS FALL OF 2018, THE SAME AS MY ORIGINAL PROBLEM. I AM HIGHLY SURPRISED...
INTERMITTENT LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST AND AN INCONSISTENT STEERING EFFORT, ESPECIALLY DURING LOWER SPEED MANEUVERS, WHEN FORCING THE WHEEL BACK TO CENTER THE VEHICLE WILL JERK TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE MILEAGE IS 14000 AND HAS BEEN OPERATING THIS WAY SINCE I ACQUIRED THE VEHICLE LATE 2019
I AM HAVING AN ISSUE WHEN TAKING A LEFT HAND BEND AT MODERATE SPEEDS 40 TO 70 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL WILL NOT RETURN TO CENTER WITHOUT CONSIDERABLE EFFORT ON THE DRIVERS PART. WHEN FORCING THE WHEEL BACK TO CENTER THE VEHICLE WILL JERK TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE MILEAGE IS 6500 AND HAS BEEN OPERATING THIS WAY SINCE I ACQUIRED THE VEHICLE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FOWLER DODGE IN OKC AND THEY SAY THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE AND MADE NO REPAIRS. I ROTATED THE TIRES THINKING THIS MAY REMEDY THE PROBLEM, BUT DID NOT. RIGHT HAND BENDS ARE NOT AFFECTED ONLY WHEN NAVIGATING A LEFT HAND BEND. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS AND FOUND WHERE THE SAME COMPLAINT HAS BEEN REPORTED TO THE NHTSA AT LEAST A DOZEN TIMES. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS YEAR RAM 1500 FOR POWER STEERING ISSUES AND I FEEL THIS IS...
POWER STEERING NEEDS SERVICE ON DRIVER DASHBOARD. FOLLOWED BY PS TROUBLE LIGHT. POWER STEERING FAILED. RECALL ADDRESSING THIS WAS COMPLETED. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON CITY STREET!! *TR
STARTED THE VEHICLE LAST NIGHT AND GOT AN ALERT THAT THE POWER STEERING WAS UNAVAILABLE. POWER STEERING IS NOT WORKING. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY. *TR
SPEEDOMETER AND ENTIRE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER STOPPED WORKING, WIPERS STARTED WORKING, TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT. MESSAGE ON CLUSTER STATED TO GET WHERE YOU'RE GOING AND DON'T TURN ENGINE OFF OR IT MAY NOT RESTART. DRIVEABILITY WAS GREATLY REDUCED, POWER STEERING SEEMED TO BE LESS EFFECTIVE. ERROR AND WARNING MESSAGES FROM ALL THE ELECTRONIC MODULES FLASHED ON THE DRIVER DISPLAY IN SEQUENCE. DEALER STARR MOTORS OF SUFFOLK, VIRGINIA INDICATED THAT WITHOUT AN ACTIVE CONDITION THEY CANNOT TROUBLESHOOT AND REPAIR SO THEY SENT US BACK OUT ON THE ROAD WITH THIS VEHICLE. ERROR CODE U1817 IS DISPLAYED AS A NON-ACTIVE HISTORICAL DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE. HITTING A BUMP IN THE ROAD SEEMED TO TRIGGER MOMENTARY RETURN OF CLUSTER FUNCTIONALITY, WITH A RETURN TO NON-FUNCTIONALITY SHORTLY THEREAFTER.
ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. ONE EVENT WAS WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT HIGHWAY APPROVED SPEED ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE VEHICLE'S POWER STEERING STOPPED OPERATING SUDDENLY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ON A CURVE. THE VEHICLE WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO MANUALLY STEER TO A SAFE LOCATION IN TRAFFIC. NEXT TWO EVENTS HAPPENED AT THE START OF THE DAY SHORTLY AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE. A MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED ON THE PANEL "SERVICE POWER STEERING". THERE IS NO POWER STEERING FUNCTIONING WHEN THIS ERROR IS DISPLAYED. WITH EACH EVENT THE NEARBY SERVICE CENTER FOR THE MANUFACTURER HAS NEEDED TO KEEP THE VEHICLE MULTIPLE DAYS TO WORK WITH THE MANUFACTURER ON A SOLUTION. ON ANOTHER ISSUE THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE FORWARD OR REVERSE ON FIRST DELIVERY (WITHIN 100 MILES) AND AGAIN AROUND 2500 MILES. THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR AND NEEDED THE SERVICE CENTER...
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE CONTACT MADE A LEFT TURN HOWEVER, THE STEERING WHEEL FAILED TO RETURN TO THE CENTER. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE TYSON CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM 1 SW FRONTAGE RD, JOLIET, IL 60404, (815) 741-5530), TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE GROUND TERMINALS NEEDED TO BE TIGHTENED. THE GROUND TERMINALS WERE TIGHTENED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT A KNOWN ISSUE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 2,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE POWER STEERING WOULD CEASED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT EXTRA EFFORT WAS NEEDED TO RELEASE THE STEERING WHEEL TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE AS DESIGNED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FERNELIUS CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM LOCATED AT (11283 N STRAITS HWY, CHEBOYGAN, MI 49721) TWICE HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO RETRIEVE A FAULT CODE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND A CASE WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,931.
GETTING READY TO MAKE A LEFT TURN INTO MY DRIVEWAY, WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WOULDN'T TURN AND A "POWER STEERING UNAVILABLE//SERVICE REQUIRED " MESSAGE POPPED UP ON THE DASH DISPLAY. I AM VERY FORTUNATE THE IT DIDN'T HAPPEN ON A BUSY ROAD. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT INTO THE DRIVEWAY ,BUT THE "POWER STEERING UNAVAILABLE/SERVICE REQUIRED" LIGHT WILL NOT GO AWAY. ALL OF THE PREVIOUS RECALLS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED. DUE TO A PREVIOUS WRECK,THERE IS NO WARRANTY ON THIS TRUCK, BECAUSE OF A RECONSTRUCTED TITLE.THIS TRUCK WAS REPAIRED WITH 1492 MILES ON IT AND NOW HAS 4347 MILES.
WHEN DRIVING ABOVE 40 MPH THE STEERING STICKS. IT HAPPEMS WHILE DRIVING INTO AND OUT OF TURNS. THE STEERING GRABS/STICKS AND HAS TO BE FORCED TO CORRECT. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ON OUR 2 LANE ROADS IN HAWAII. ALL OF MY REQUIRED RECALLS HAVE BEEN CORRECTED. THIS IS A NEW ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN NOTICING THIS ISSUE SINCE JUNE 2019.
AFTER TAKING POSSESSION OF OUR NEW 2019 RAM TRUCK I BEGAN TO DRIVE HOME. AS SOON AS I CAME INTO A LEFT HAND TURN THE STEERING STUCK IN THE 10 OR 11 O'CLOCK POSITION WHEN TRYING TO RETURN TO CENTER. I ALMOST CRASHED INTO ONCOMING VEHICLES. I RETURNED THE TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY AND THEY SAID THE STEERING WAS FIXED. WHEN I PICKED IT UP THE SECOND TIME THE STEERING WAS STILL DEFECTIVE. VERY DANGEROUS. I ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT SEVERAL TIMES ON THE WAY HOME FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE THREAT OF OVERCOMPENSATION IS A MAJOR CONCERN ALSO.
