2017 KIA SORENTO Engine Problems

Car was running fine no indicators on at all. Got on highway started shaking again no indicators on thought I was driving in uneven pavement at the time. Car started driving ok engine light then came on car started shaking and then stalled. Started it and luckily made it home. Car dealer said the engine was needing to be replaced. Extended warranty stated due to carbon deposit build up caused valve to burn so it will not be covered. This is a 2017 car under 100,000 miles and for the engine to go like this with me owning it for under 50k miles is absurd concerning and frustrating. I still have a loan and am out a car one that I thought would run longer!

The engine was consuming a lot of oil. Lost 2-3 quarts in between oil changes. Kia did an oil consumption test and supposedly fixed the problem by cleaning out the gaskets. Kia told me that if this did not fix the problem they may need to replace the engine. I was told that the cleaning fixed the oil problem. Few months after, car started to loose oil again. Almost dry on oil change. Way before an oil change was due, car engine started shaking on the Highway. Brought it to closest oil changed shop and oil was completely dry. Mechanics at Kia told me that it was the spark plug. After they fixed the spark plug, they told me that there was a dead cylinder misfire and an internal engine failure. Since car had 72000 miles. Heavy oil consumption. I just changed my oil 3,500 miles ago and it burned through the whole thing. I am on a group on facebook where hundreds of kia and hyundai drivers have the same issue with a very similar engine. Many have even had big engine fires as a result. This is not a safe care to take your family in. My engine seized up as a result, so I am only a year into my car payments and it is a total loss. I am on a teacher's salary so I can't afford to fix it or get another car.

My car started running badly with a knocking noise at the start. The knocking noise got worse, I so pulled over and checked the oil and there was virtually no oil in the engine. I filled it with oil and the knocking continued and got worse as I drove it to the dealer for service. The engine failed before I could make it to the dealer. It now needs a new engine. The Car was serviced regularly. NO LOW OIL ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON TO NOTIFY ME OF LOW OIL. NO LEAK WAS DETECTED.

Loosing oil which will result in engine failure. Had an oil test done at the Kia Dealership and they said it lost 2.5 quarts of oil in 2925 miles and that is "operating as designed". Their Owner's manual says change the oil every 7500 miles. So by then I will be out of oil. Not sure how this is "operating as designed".

The oil burns very fast. I check the oil weekly and it's always low. There were no warning lamps or lights or anything to indicate that the oil was low.

My vehicle has been consuming massive amounts of oil. My oil is completely OUT at around 2500 miles after a fresh oil change. There are no leaks or puddles on my garage floor and no warning indication on the dashboard. I became aware of the problem only after my mechanic did courtesy inspections after taking my car in to have tires replaced, headlight bulbs replaced, routine maintenance. This is unacceptable and can lead to significant engine problems and/or fire!

I left my home in Northern California and drove my 2017 KIA Sorento EX V6 AWD to work. No one was with me in the vehicle. I am requesting an investigation of a defect involving the oil pressure switch in my iKia Sorento vehicle engine. The oil pressure switch, a device which monitors engine oil pressure and illuminates a warning light when oil pressure is lost, is defective The defect results in an engine oil leak. The oil loss occurs without warning to the driver eventually leading to an engine stall and loss of motive power condition. This was brought to the attention of the technician that serviced my car several times. I was instructed to add some oil if I noticed it, but don’t fill it up. I was informed to let them take care of the liquid levels when I brought it in for the oil changes.

Car oil had not been changed but a month or two ago and only went on one 2-3 hour trip there and back after the oil was changed. Only stayed in town and went to regular grocery store and work after trip. Did not check oil due to not normally having it deplete fast. A month or so later oil deplited rapidly (this is an unknown part if it was fully the cars issue or if was the person who changed the oil.) Oil was lower than normal mainly noticed when car showed oil lamp light (was only blinking did not stay lit) and started halting and jerking when driving home. My car is burning excessive oil. Recently had an oil change on May 9,2022. Oil light came on May 27,2022. There was literally no oil in the car. The remaining mileage that should have been left is 751 til the 3000 miles oil change. Prior to May 9th I had the oil changed early April.

Excessive oil consumption with no low oil warning light. Driving with no oil can cause severe engine damage. I was informed by the Kia dealership after reporting an issue with oil consumption. Kia can not describe what exactly is wrong with my vehicle. First they said it was the rod bearing then they took it back because if it was the rod bearing system then Kia would have to fix the engine then they said it’s my spark plugs now here we are 4 weeks later they’re saying it’s the compression system in relation to the spark plugs. And this was the same person i spoke to literally 4 weeks Ago. So at this point I’m like make up your mind which one is it? I told them I’m a single parent with a disabled child with no transportation and have been without for 4 weeks. 4/18/22 While making a right turn in a residential neighborhood, the car abruptly stopped and engine shut down. The stop was so abrupt that it threw my body forward and now have shoulder and neck pains. No warning lights were illuminated prior to this incident, however, after the engine shut down, the airbag light was lit. I drove it home slowly, called the Kia dealership in Manteca, CA. Making arrangements to have the vehicle towed and have it examined. Two days prior, the ! light came on. I noticed that the passenger side headlight was out. That same evening when I started the vehicle up, the ! light was gone and the headlight worked. I addition, when having the light control kept on Auto, the headlights remain on all the time. If this had happened in traffic or on the freeway, it may have had a different outcome.

The vehicle has stalled multiple times while in motion presenting a life safety concern, the vehicle is under warranty and has been at the dealer multiple times and they are unable to duplicate and refuse to do any further diagnoses beside scan for active codes which the vehicle does not have. Vehicle currently will not start and has left us stranded in an area where we are concerned for our safety.

Upon driving in the highway at the speed limit of of 75mph my Kia Sorento began to lose control and lose speed when i tried to gain more speed . It was very frightening and i ultimately feared for my life especially when the whole car began to shake violently. I purchased my vehicle from Carvana in 2020. It was registered and I received my tag promptly. Last week I was turning and gaining speed and I lost all engine power. Battery light came on and steering locked up as well as brakes almost causing an accident. I noticed Kia and I paid to tow it to the location. Recently the oil pressure sensor indicator light has been coming dure to excessive oil consumption. Oil light also comes on when idling, even though engine oil level is full. Slight increase of RPM causes light to go out, but may come back on occasionally when idling again. PVC valve has been replaced with a new one, problem continues. Seen many more of the same complaints on this and other websites. Appears to be a manufacturing defect or faulty oil pressure sender based on reported information. A Kia Sorento oil pressure switch recall is allegedly necessary based on a petition sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The agency says the petition seeks a Kia Sorento oil pressure switch recall because 2015-2017 Sorentos are at risk of complete engine failures.

I purchased this vehicle 6 months ago(07/2021). I have kept up with my regular service oil changes, but it burns oil way too quick, and the exhaust spits out smoke. I have been adding oil every 3-4 days because it runs dry just that fast. I was driving on the highway, and the vehicle abruptly slowed down. The engine light blinked off and on, and then stayed on. We had an oil change done, and right after there was a knocking sound on top of the engine. Then, it stalled while we were driving it. They told us to have it checked. My wife was on her way to a near Kia dealership and the engine blew. My car was fine, then all of a sudden (after an oil change) it started knocking really loudly. I pulled over and the noise stopped- so I got back in the car a drive home. The oil pressure switch sensor is going bad. Common problem with the 3.3 Lambda V6 engine. The oil light comes on when the vehicle is at idle. I now have an oil leak which is another symptom of the sensor going bad. Costly repair, sensor located deep in the engine between the two cylinder banks. This is a fire hazard with oil pooling on top of the engine if not repaired.

my car went from running perfectly fine to completely breaking down in less than 10 miles. Complete engine failure. I was lucky it did not catch fire. I am writing this because Kia needs to change the status of their "product improvement campaign" PI1802 to a full blow recall. This is a wide spread issue that affected thousands of Kia vehicles, but because they refuse to call it a recall, it does not show up on nhtsa or on Kia's website. Kia states that numerous notices were mailed, but I did not receive anything. They cannot prove that I received them any more than I can prove that I didn't. They are now refusing to cover or help cover the cost of a whole new engine.

Engine failed at 94,000 miles while driving. Main bearings in engine ceased up due to lack of oil flow thru the ports. This was a known problem with kia engines but I never a recall notice.

I have complained since 2020 about the noise in the rear area, this started when the right rear light was rewired. I can't pinpoint what triggers the noise to start, sometimes it happens when the SUV is off ,and idling and driving but not consistently. I left with an unresolved issue. AFTER COMPLAINT # 1399932, KIA SERVICE CALLED ME MARCH 5TH TO SAY THE TURBO NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.

FOLLOW UP TO LAST TWO COMPLAINTS. MAR 16 KIA SERVICE CALLED TO SAY A PART IF ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED A CYLINDER. ORIGINAL PROBLEM BEGAN 2/7/2021

MY CAR DIED GOING 50MPH AND WAS LATER DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE SEIZED. I BOUGHT THE CAR A YEAR PRIOR INSPECTED AND HAD THE OIL CHANGED. I ONLY OWNED THE CAR FOR A YEAR.

MY 2017 KIA SORENTO HAS HAD REPEATED OIL LEAKS DUE TO MULTIPLE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH ASSEMBLY FAILURES. AT 27,000 MILES MY KIA EXPERIENCED A SIGNIFICANT OIL LEAK (IDENTIFIED BY ME DUE TO THE STRONG SMELL OF OIL BURNING COMING FROM THE A/C.) KIA REPLACED THE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH PART #94750-37100 AT THAT TIME. AGAIN AT 60,000 THIS SAME PART FAILED (AGAIN IDENTIFIED BY THE STRONG SMELL OF BURNING OIL COMING FROM THE ENGINE) AND ONCE AGAIN KIA REPLACED THE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH (PART #94750-37100.) HAVING THE SAME PART FAIL TWICE IN 60,000 AND HAVING OIL LEAKS REPEATEDLY IS NOT ONLY A FIRE HAZARD (I WOULD POINT YOU TO A SIMILAR PROBLEM YOU FORCED GM TO PERFORM A RECALL IN 2015) BUT THIS COULD SEVERELY SHORTEN THE LIFE OF THE CAR ENGINE AS WELL.

ENGINE BURNS UP OIL VERY QUICKLY WAY BEFORE 3,000 MILES AND THERE ARE NO ALERTS THAT THE OIL IS LOW. STEERING GETS "STUCK" AT TIMES FOR BRIEF AMOUNTS OF TIME AND NEEDS TO BE READJUSTED IN THE ROAD. THIS HAPPENS ON STRAIGHT HIGHWAYS AND IN CURVE. WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID FUNCTION DOES NOT WORK.

WHITE SMOKE IN EXHAUST AND LOUD GRIND WHEN COLD START. PAINT IS PEELING IN THE BACK

POWER STEERING WENT OUT. RADIO TURNS ON AND OFF GOING DOWN THE ROAD. HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF AND ON BY THEMSELF. BATTERY IS NOW DEAD. CAR WILL NOT RUN. TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME ON ALL IN ONE DAY..I'VE HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR 4 TO 5 MONTHS
