2019 JEEP CHEROKEE Engine Problems

Vehicle stalled when slowing to a stop prior to coming to a complete stop, power steering went out and loss of vehicle control almost causing wreck 7/15/22.

Auto stop shuts off the whole car at a red light when trying to start back up it fails & automatically put emergency break on & leaves us stranded in the middle of traffic. It has happened a handful of times. Also, when the car is completely off & I start to start it up it girls the first time until I try a second time. The car also has trouble accelerating & shifting gears.

Going to work cylinder number 2 piston and rings failed with 72k miles. When I proceeded to call the dealership for parts to have repaired they do not offer parts but a complete engine. The service Manager also proceeded to say they have one in the parking lot with the same scenario. I also did a search online and found another that has failed.

Multiple times, my car's start/stop system has forced my car to shut down while at a stop light. After the hundredth time, I took it to the Jeep dealership. They did find that my car is burning oil and that was possibly the cause of it. They did a fresh oil change and had us watch the consumption and then bring it back in when it lost enough oil to qualify as low. I've burnt 3qt of oil in 2,000 miles! We were told that Chrysler said the acceptable range is 1qt every 1,000 miles. I'm over that, but Chrysler doesn't want to fix the issue.

The engine and electrical system will completely shut down while in drive and will not restart right away. This happens in the middle of intersections most often when attempting to make a turn. This has happened up to ten times and in the most recent occurrence the car would not restart at all in the middle of an intersection with our baby in the back seat on a hot day. We were stuck with no A/C and no ability to get the car to start until help arrived. The car was towed to a local JEEP dealership and they said it was due to the thermostat and battery which we replace but it has since happened again. In all occurrences, there were no warning signs before, during or after the engine/electrical failure. The car shuts off while driving without any warning whatsoever.

On saturday 3/5/22 around 2:30 pm i was driving and the engine shut off on midlle of street. No warning or any previus signs. On sunday 3/6/22 i got a low oil presure warning ligth. I PURCHASED MY JEEP IN 09/2018 AND I HAVE REPORTED NUMEROUS TIMES THAT MY LEFT FOG LIGHT TURNS ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING. When stoped car turned off. Car cant turn on and I need to wait a while. When stoped and going to turn it turns off. It stalls a lot especially when stoped at a light or stop sign.

Engine unexpectedly turned off without any action from the driver, while the vehicle was in motion; cause UNKNOWN. This has happened three times, so far. (engine shuts off, electronics remain on, no malfunction indicator) The engine will not restart instantly; must wait about 30 seconds to up to 5 minutes (engine turns over but no combustion). If this were to occur in an intersection, the vehicle could be stranded in the oncoming lane. Issue not reported to dealer, this seems to be a wide-spread issue with no possible resolution (see Internet).

The contact had to pull over, park the vehicle, and restart to correct the failure. The vehicle rental company, Hertz (1319d Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD 20852) was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 27,000.

Car just stopped for no reason going 65 mph on the highway. Could have been a very bad accident.

Vehicle will not unlock or respond to key fab, after waiting it sometimes does, other times disconnecting negative battery cable and reconnecting it, function is restored. Far worse is at time when driving total electrical system failure occurs, engine fails, all dash board lights fail, light turn lane indicators and door locks. This has happened repeatedly and last time in heavy freeway traffic exiting. Took car to dealer and he said it was a low battery, this is the 3rd battery in 20 months. Dealer had car for 7 days and returned it now with Electronic Start Stop not functioning, after 3 weeks problems are still there, an independent mechanic says these are known Jeep problems, and confirmed it is not low battery voltage, I'm an electrical engineer and these failures happen when battery is at 14.0 volts, fully charged after 90 minutes of driving, and then car will start...

About a year ago I took the vehicle in for a recall notice. Software update needed to be run due to the vehicle shutting off during operation. I took the vehicle in for the recall service. Since the recall my vehicle has now started doing the same thing. It seems to happen when slowing to a stop or downshifting. Vehicle totally shuts off, no lights, including break lights, everything shuts off including radio, hazards won't go on, car just totally shuts off. Happened to me at a busy intersection tonight and I nearly got rear ended. Only warning light was the battery when attempting to restart the vehicle. This has happened 4 times in the last two days, this is my only vehicle and I must drive it.

Vehicle will shut down and reset while in traffic. Will take 5 plus minutes to be able to turn back on. Emergency Brake will automatically engage. AC compressor failed no longer working.

While driving, the Jeep suddenly loses all power and shuts down. This is extremely dangerous as it seems to happen at random. So far only on side streets, but what if I was in the middle of an intersection? The manufacturer knows this is an issue with the model year and make, complaints litter the internet. They have not issued a recall, I suppose someone needs to die first.

First the auto stop quit working. The vehicle lost power as I was driving and no warning lights have come on. Now the cruise control has stoped working with no warning lights. Periodically the vehicle will lose power the radio/screen will reset as your driving.

Going from park to reverse the vehicle Reverse starts flashing and driving forward. This happened to me in January 2021 and March 2021. During parallel parking the breaks also decide to turn on. Driving slow in a parking lot the engine has turned itself off. It has done this indefinitely while Driving where the engine light turns on. Shifting from drive to park has also caused the vehicle to reverse. Shifting from park to drive has caused the D to blink and start reversing. The car is hard in steering at times and the radio and Ac have random turned themselves on while I’m driving without me doing it. Since the computer is recalled I do believe these issues mean the vehicle has a transmission issue. It cannot calibrate what gear it’s in properly.

My car has randomly started leaking between the transmission and engine, its causing my jeep to constantly have to be refilled on oil, I spoke with the dealership near me, and I cant be booked for another 2 weeks, Im not sure this is healthy for my vehicle nor my family due to this being our family car.

On several occasions my vehicle turned off while driving. When vehicle turns off, steering wheel locks up and my turn signals do not work. We bought and replaced a new battery. Within a week the issue started again. Today it happened twice within 45 minutes apart. Again, the car completely turns/shuts off. We have to find a safe way to stop, put it in park, wait a couple of minutes then turn it back on.

Unknown of what the issue is but since I bought my 2019 Jeep Cherokee latitude recently I've took it in for service multiple times paid out of pocket because when I slow down it shudders bad and stalls at time this is dangerous I was on the highway and it stalled dead right in the lane and a semi truck almost crashed into me. I took it to the dealership they first said my oil was 1 quart low which I didn't believe then they did a pcm update on another visit and problem is still there this almost gave me a heart attack I could have got killed! Either reimburse me for the problems or investigate what this could be.

Check engine light came on. Had it diagnosed within 5 minutes. Code P0123 came up. That is the “Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch “A” Circuit High Input”. Specific part # 5184349AF. It is built into the throttle body, so whole throttle body must be replaced. Vehicle only has 40,000 miles. Parts Dept at dealer told me they had several of these parts in stock. He was surprised. They only do that when they know there is a problem. It is a safety issue. It can fail and cause engine to quit. Jeep refuses to acknowledge an existing problem. It needs government investigation for safety. I can send picture of diagnosis printout if needed.

Aug 29,2019 I purchased a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude new from Town Chrysler Jeep of Wenatchee WA. Shortly after I had several issues with the vehicle. My main concern is at times we are not able to accelerate when needed w/no warning. I brought the vehicle in to the dealership . I was told no codes were stored and sent away . On hot days/days when A/C is running, the car will fully shut off when stopping at a stop light when the auto-off functionality is on (which is by default “on” with every ignition cycle). The lights go out, the dashboard computer and instrument panel go dark and then the car does a hard reignition. From time to time the the car will not turn back on automatically giving an error to the effect of “power On/Off required.” In this instance the vehicle must be shifted to park to be able to reignite the engine chambers and then the vehicle must be put back in drive - taking ~30 seconds and causing traffic snarls - endangering fellow travelers and those in the vehicle.

Our Jeep Cherokee caught fire spontaneously on Friday night around 11:30pm. The fire started at the front of the passenger side of the vehicle. The fire started shortly after a warning message that read "4WD overheated. Temporarily unavailable." There were 3 adults and 1 infant in the vehicle that were put at risk during this incident. Not only due to the fire starting in the vehicle but being stranded on the side of a major highway for over an hour. EMT, Police, and Fire Department responded to the call. We are pending a review by insurance representatives and the manufacturer. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

While stopped @ traffic light or stop signs, when start to go car jumps when gas is applied. Has not been reported to anyone yet, no warning lights displayed. Has not caused accident as of yet. OMG THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE IF IT JUST SHUTS OFF FOR NO REASON. LATER THIS MONTH THE FRONT SUSPENSION STARTED MAKING ALOT OF NOISE. THE CAR HAS 43000 MILES. OBSERVED THE PASSANGER SIDE STRUT MOUNT CLIP THAT KEEP THE STRUT FROM SEPERATING FROM WHEEL WHEEL LOOSE. STRUT FAILED AND CAUSED ISSUES WITH DRIVE TRAIN. CAR IS ON BLOCKS IN MY GARAGE KNOW AWAITING STRUTS AND STRUT MOUNTS. THE JEEP USED A VERY SMALL PLASTIC CLIP TO SECURE THE TOP PART OF THE STRUT, SO IN MY CASE WHEN THE STRUT FAILED, THE CLIP CAME LOOSE AND ALMOST SEPERATED LEAVEING THE TOP OF STRUT UN-ATTACHED TO ANYTHING OMG! THIS A HUG SAFTY ISSUE....

THIS VEHICLE STALLS OUT IN TRAFFIC AND STUTTERS WHEN STARTED. EVEN WHEN THE AUTOSTART BUTTON IS "ON" THE CAR HESITATES AND STALLS FROM STOP TO GO. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN HIT WHEN TRYING TO PULL OUT FROM AN INTERSECTION FROM A STOP. THE SUV SMELLS OF BURNING OILS ALL THE TIME. I SET A SERVICE APPT WITH THE DEALER TO ASSESS THE STALLING PROBLEM AND BURNING OIL SMELL. I WAS TOLD THAT THE STALLING WAS FROM THE "ENGINE PERFORMANCE" AND NOTHING COULD BE DONE. AS FAR AS THE BURNING OIL SMELL, I WAS TOLD THE ENGINE BURNS THROUGH 1 QUART OF OIL PER 1,000 MILES AND I WILL NEED TO CONSTANTLY CHECK THE OIL. THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, IT IS THE WAY IT IS MADE. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! JEEP HAS NOT BEEN VERY HELPFUL.

THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND IT WAS SAID THAT IT WAS THE EVAPORATOR CANISTER AND THAT IT HAD TO BE REPLACED.

OIL CHANGE AND RECALL COMPLETED 3,000 MILES AGO FOR OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE. DROVE 3,000 MILES AND STALLED ON ROADWAY IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING A RIGHT HAND TURN. DURING SHUTDOWN THERE WAS STEERING CONTROL LOSS. PULLED CAR OFF ROAD AND CHECKED DIPSTICK. DIPSTICK WAS DRY. ADDED 2.5 QUARTS OIL. THIS CAR STILL CONSUMES APPROXIMATELY .75 QUARTS OF OIL PER 1,000 MILES. WILL RESTART OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WITH JEEP DEALER IMMEDIATELY.*DT CONSUMER STATED HE WOULD LIKE THE CASE CLOSED, ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED.*JB

WE BOUGHT THIS CAR FOR MY 17-YEAR-OLD SON FROM CARFAX. IT SEEMED GREAT FOR A FEW MONTHS, BUT THE ENGINE STARTING SHUTTING OFF WHILE HE WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON THE BUSY ROADS OF HOUSTON. WHEN WE PUT OIL IN THE CAR, THE ENGINE SHUTOFF STOPS, BUT IT COMES BACK WITHIN A MONTH. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS. HE HAS HAD A NUMBER OF CLOSE CALLS. PLEASE HELP!

6 MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT MY 2019 JEEP CHEROKEE IT STALLED OUT OF NO WHERE IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION AND STALLED AFTER A COUPLE MINUTES IT STARTED BACK UP I TOOK IT IN THEY SAID IT WAS THE BATTERY BUT I DOUBT IT CAUSE IT WAS 6 MONTHS OLD. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND DIDN'T WANT TO START UNTIL THE NEXT DAY I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE AGAIN AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE OIL BEING LOW I CHECKED THE OIL MYSELF AND IT WAS FULL AND CLEAN NOW IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME A THIRD TIME STALLED ON THE FREE WAY WITH INCOMING TRAFFIC BEHIND ME AND STALL OUT OF NO WHERE I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE NO MORE! I THINK IT HAS AN ENGINE ELECTRICAL ISSUE.

ENGINE STALLS OUT RANDOMLY ON THE HIGHWAY AND RUNS ITSELF COMPLETELY OUT OF OIL. TRANSMISSION LUNGES/JOLTS THROUGH GEARS.

DRIVING INTO A INTERSECTION ON A STOP LIGHT MY CAR STOPS OUT OF NO WERE , CAN NOT GET IT STARTED LIGHTS START TURNING ON. STARTED TO GET PANIC CARS BEHIND BE STARTED HONKING. FINALLY GOT IT TO START.
