2014 JEEP CHEROKEE Electrical System Problems

My Jeep is stalling and it cranks but then while driving for a while it shuts down and you have to crank it back up

Driving the vehicle for a few mins and the seatbelt light and airbag lights will come on and message show service airbags soon. Will stay in for about 2 mins to 15mins. Does not occur everyday but would say once every two weeks.

Truck stopped in the middle of the road almost causing me and my daughter to get by oncoming traffic. Service transmission appeared on the screen before the car stop and power off.

It started when I was trying to leave a Walmart parking lot back in October of 2022. I put my Jeep in reverse and it wouldn't backup. There was no car in front of me so I tried to drive forward and I couldn't. After several attempts I finally called AAA and had my car towed to my house till I could find a local mechanic to look at it. I then had it towed again to CS Auto Services in Leominster, MA and he ultimately had to disconnect the emergency brake because he determined the parking brake module was corroded and the only way for me to be able to drive it was to disconnect the emergency brake until one could be ordered and installed by a Jeep dealer. the Vehicle has a lot of issues primarily involving the Transmission. The transmission does not shift correctly. The automatic shifting is very erratic. Shift very low sometimes at 2000RPM, and then other times a very high at over 5500RPM. During acceleration, it makes a grinding noise and a very rough shift which can pretty much push you forward from your seat. I took the Vehicle to be serviced several times while still under warranty to the Manhattan Jeep Service Center and every single time they said the computer needed to be updated, and after a few miles, it would go back to doing the same thing, rough shifting.

Vehicle began having parking brake issues. After further research I discovered I was not the only person to have this issue. The Electronic Parking Brake Module (EPB) was located on the rear left side of the vehicle next to the spare tire compartment. I removed the EPB and began to shake the part. The part was found to contain a bunch of water that should not have been able to enter the EPB. The vehicle is still inoperable as the EPB will not disengage. The vehicle is not mobile at this time. I just ordered a new EPB Module on 1/21/2023 from MOPAR and was charged $111 for shipping and the part.

I was going to leave for work at 4am as usual, went out to my vehicle and tried to put it in reverse but the emergency brake was on. I had a ‘Service Parking Brake’ prompt and light on the dash, and another ‘Brake’ light lit up, showing the emergency brake was on. I figured I had accidentally hit the button and went to disengage it, but it would not turn off. I had never used the emergency brake, and had no prior issues with it. Beginning of this year vehicle was taken into mechanic for issues. It had rear differential, exhaust and motor mounts all repaired/replaced! The vehicle still had alot of vibration and just 3 weeks ago wouldn't start! Was towed to dealership since my machanic couldn't work on code issues that was code that came up on Diagnostic machine! Was told by dealership today that the pcm, fuel pump and battery are all faulty! There were multiple recalls since 2020 for the pcm, fuel and electrical the 2014-2020 jeep cherokees. It was taken in for the two recalls we received and wasn't repaired, was just looked at! Now we are having more issues with the vehicle! I have reported this to Chrysler, they are supposed to return my call after making claim and speaking to dealership! This vehicle has had a new engine and transmission put in by dealership in 2016 under warranty....

* The component or module that operates the emergency parking brake. I'd say the Jeep garage threw out the old one upon the repairs. I do have a pic of the unit that was bad. *The parking brake was locking in while it was parked and could not move it. Then when I did get it moving it was always scary. I do know that it could have locked in at any time and cause me to crash. During some of this time I had been driving my young granddaughters in it before knowing what was happening. While driving the vehicle- the service emergency brake light came on. The emergency break then automatically engaged on its own and would not disengage. The car had to be towed because the e-brake would not disengage. It was raining the day this occurred. Dealership indicated that water got to the e-brake electronic components and corroded/fried the components and therefore need to be replaced. This also caused the calipers to seize and rotors/pads to need replacement. The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle lost electrical power failed and the power steering failed to operate as needed. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate as needed and had started to lunge forward intermittently while driving. The contact pulled over and waited for nearly an hour before the electrical system returned to normal operation. The contact stated that the 4WD, check engine, power steering, and electronic steering control lights were illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact stated that the failure recurred. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 81,000.

In the spring of 2021 my parking break and break light illuminated on my dash, my electronic emergency break would not disengage nor would my vehicle move in drive or reverse. After bringing my vehicle to a local mechanic, they diagnosed the issue that the EPB (electronic break module) which is located inside the rear end of the vehicle was corroded from water damage. When driving the vehicle it shakes tremendously and a message comes on that say shift gear to park when we are in drive we shift to park and the vehicle shuts down we could be driving at a speed at 45 and this just happens. This issue happen three times before the vehicle was able to completely start up to get us home. We took the vehicle to the dealership when under warranty they refuse to check it because no indicator light was on.

An engine light came on saying “service shifter” and now the car won’t shift or drive right

I placed my Jeep into park at a drive thru ATM, once I finished my transaction, the parking brake independently engaged while attempting to shift to drive. I was finally able to disengage the parking brake after many attempts by holding down the parking brake button and shifting to drive with my foot on the gas pedal at the same time. I managed to pull out of bank lot and made a left turn at 15 mph, once I got into the right lane safely, I released the parking brake button but then the parking brake immediately engaged as the service parking brake message displayed. My 2014 Jeep has been experiencing intermittent shut downs, the dash goes dead at random times for a few seconds and then comes back on the issue continues. This issue started in December 2021 during that time I was driving at night and the dash, exterior lights and interior lights started flickering. Now this issue occurs 90% of the time when I drive, sometimes when the dash goes off different warning lights come on, TCS, SRS, Power steering and if the vehicle is traveling below 5mph it sometimes dies completely. Battery was replaced 1 year ago. The middle screen on the dash gets super dim and it appears to still be on if you look closely at night but the dials are frozen at the current speed and rpm. My mechanic tested the battery connection and there is nothing loose that would cause this.

the electronic parking brake malfunctions . computer gets wet and brake locks and can not be disengaged

The car is throwing the code of P0810. It keeps saying service transmission.

The transmission jerks when at a light it jerks forward. This is unsafe as I feel it could hit the car in front. I reported it to the dealer which I purchased and they say the transmission is gone. There is only 36898 miles on it. The dashboard lights shuts off while driving not allowing you to see the speed of the vechile or any other instruments.

Car lost power and warning message on dash said to shift to park at o miles per hour.check engine light was on. When I bought this Jeep it lost power the first or second week of ownership. I took it back to dealer and they said they couldn’t find anything. The car would loose power and the above message would come up. Could happen when driving ar after take off. I was driving on the highway and all of a sudden my car wanted me to shift into P to park while i was still in drive. My vehicle was hit passenger side as well in a hit and run incident. Vehicle shifter loses contact with the transmission and vehicle will not engage

On any drives at freeway miles that last for longer then about 45 minutes the vehicle sends a false service transmission light which puts the card in limp mode forcing the driver to come to a stop on the freeway. Within the first week of me buying the car, I was traveling cross country from CA to FL. I discovered in CA within an hour of the start of the trip this because the vehicle forced me to stop in the middle of the desert because of this I was forced to sit in the desert for 30 minutes waiting on a tow truck. Engine stalls without warning. One occurrence stalled while in reverse, steering wheel jerked 3 times. After every stall has had the warning "Four wheel drive temporarily unavailable". Heavy water leaks in the back trunk area, unable to relase parking brake, ACC/FCW unavailable, powerd lift gate doest work some times. Sucked out at least 2 galons of water form the spare tire area, find serious corrosion in the electircal connector of the Electronic Parking Break Module located in the back truck area.

our mileage/odometer is flashing and states TSB. The TCM has been reprogrammed 3-4 times and still malfunctioning. Electrical issues through out cause stereo to not turn on sometimes and the all the sudden turn on its own. We have made complaints to the jeep and they said the recall have already been done they wont help us and then close our case with out any solutions. We have already spent 2000 or more fixing issues that don't help the problem. We completely replaced the shifter and the whole assembly that goes with it. This vehicle has a known issue that has been ongoing for years. If the gas tank is filled (but not topped off) the car will stall when you begin driving when it sits idle at a traffic light or stop sign during the first 30 minutes of use until some gas burns off. When this car was purchased used in Dec 2017 it happened immediately after the first full tank. When idling or right as you step on the gas the car starts “puttering” and stalls. The dealership said the recalls wouldnt affect my vehicle BUT they had to replace the TCM. The TCM needed to be reprogrammed but I ending pay for a whole TCM. I don't think this is fair and I want to know how I can get Mopar to pay for it.

Error codes U1120, U1110, and U0121 all appeared at the same time. Car became undriveable while driving on the highway. Had to pull over with lost power and stop on the side of the highway. Tried to get the car started again and upon reignition the car cycled between air bag and transmission warnings. The car could not drive without reaching 7000+ RPMS at 5 mph. Ended up deserting the vehicle and had it towed to the nearest Jeep dealer. This is the 4th time the vehicle has broken down on the highway.

Vehicle starts to hesitate and shake during acceleration and then the service gear shifter light come on and all the red lights on the gear shifter turns red.

Approximately May 15th 2021 the Start/Stop button started to malfunction causing the vehicle to not go into park. I called the Jeep dealer to set an appointment and brought the vehicle in for repairs on 6/1/2021. The Service manager mentioned that there was a recall on Jeep Cherokee Models but I still had to pay to have it repaired. As I see it as a Safety concern by the NHSTA, I believe it should have been covered at no expense to me.
